This place is very welcoming, and the view is great. It is super chill there and the service is wonderful! I got the green salad with salmon. The salmon had a yummy unique grilled taste to it. My husband order the burger and I totally took a bite. It was the BEST burger I have ever had in my life. I am not sure how they do it but it had a smoky-charred taste, and was cooked perfect. It came with a generous amount of fries. I highly recommend this place. It is not overly priced for what you get, and the servers were so friendly. read more

My husband and I live in the neighborhood. There is not a lot of places to go. We do enjoy the live music, but we have never been there that we received good service. Every time I've been there I had to go look for my server. I watched our sushi order on the service counter for 15 min. It would be so nice to go there and leave with a good experience. Made reservations only to arrive and find out they weren't saved, I don't think one was even needed and they had plenty of room on a Saturday night. That might've been my first clue. Very disappointed with this place. I've heard some good things, and a few bad, but had to try it out. My mother in law bought me a groupon for my birthday and we had just gone to a winery nearby, so figured we would stop by for lunch. We bought a bottle from the winery and we were told there is no corking fee at Aqua Terra (our server said she has been there multiple times) So we walk in, it's seat yourself, we get menus and greeted right away. No drink menu though, but that's ok we had the bottle of wine. We are told they only have the bar menu right now, not lunch menu. Keep in mind its a Sunday at 1pm....... No lunch? Weird. Anyway, we order the calamari and a bowl of clam chowder to start. The calamari was so soggy and the clam chowder was eh. Tasted like a can of progresso clam chowder. We then ordered steam buns which were actually pretty good, and these potato balls (no idea what they're actually called) those were alright. Now back to the wine.. We get the bill, and our groupon was for $50 worth of food so our server applies that. Drops our bill off and there is a $15 cork fee!! Annoyed cause we were told there wasn't one, but I guess we should have asked to make sure. But $15??! That's a little ridiculous! On top of it our server wasn't the nicest, and certain things she was saying were just weird. "I was out way too late last night".. ok? I can not figure out why there are so many bad reviews. My fiancé and I come up from San Diego a couple times a year to do stay and plays, the food is always amazing! I think people are too hung up on service. Think about it, not a whole lot of people live out here so the pool of servers/bartenders is not very big. The people that work here are doing the best they can and I've never had a problem with service. Stop expecting a fine dining server like you're going to Mr A's or something and let these kids do their job. Anyway we love coming here, the food is awesome! We have eaten here on several occasions, but this evening was much less than what we hoped for or expected. I brought my brother-in-law and family here to celebrate his birthday, but we left as soon as we finished dinner instead of staying for dessert and enjoying a few more drinks. It seems that whenever this venue hosts a special event, the restaurant suffers greatly because they don't have the staff to do both. Our server tried his best, but we saw him maybe three times during the entire meal and the wait for our food was much longer than usual. Our burgers were basically burned instead of medium well as we had requested. To make matters worse, they seated a very large and quite intoxicated party next to us, making it impossible to even hear each other speak let alone enjoy a birthday celebration. They apparently had started their evening in the bar area and decided to bring their rude and obnoxious bunch over to the dining area where they could annoy other patrons. It's always been my belief it's the restaurant's responsibility to control those kinds of situations. But maybe because there is no host, the restaurant doesn't have a plan in place for how to diffuse the situation. So we skipped dessert and the expense of a few more drinks to head home for Plan B. We won't be returning to this restaurant because we had the same bad experience a few months ago for my daughter's graduation. We won't be waiting to see if there's a third strike. I did try to call the restaurant after we left to let them know of our unhappy experience, but just like there was no host at the front when we left, there was no answer when I called -- twice. Beautiful views good service yummy food made for a nice afternoon lunch. They offer a brunch for 13.99 but we decided to order off the menu. I had the roasted turkey sandwich with siracha bacon garlic aioli on the side ( glad i did that it was just ok) but the sandwich overall was good. My niece had the balsamic chicken sandwich with coleslaw which she liked as well. May have to go back and try the brunch ! This restaurant is part of Pala Mesa Resort. Compared to the resort, the restaurant is newer. We were lucky it was not a busy weekend. We didn't have to wait at all to be served. Additionally, it was not overcrowded in the dining area either. One of my issues is, there were 3 steps to the dining area, and no signs anywhere. Yes, the host warned us, "watch your step" as we were being seated to our table, and we did. However, after an hour and a half, when I left our table to go wash up, on my way back I forgot about the step. I almost fell. It was embarrassing, and I could of hurt myself. The window was dirty. From the outside lighting, you can see a bunch of fingerprints on them. Very dirty! The food was ok. Not the best, but not to brag about either. One of the dishes we ordered had very dry couscous and no flavor. My plate was fish, but super oily and salty. The clam chowder was really good, very tasty, but they served it with a super-size spoon. I can't complain about their service. The server was very nice, explained everything and always came around to check on us. Oh, I read somewhere that from 6 - 9pm there is a "live band"... Not! that was a one man band. Made a reservation for 5:30 p.m. dinner as suggested by the night manager as there was going to be a yuletide concert following at 7, when my husband and I arrived the hostess told us last, plus two other couples that were arriving after us they had no tables for us and we would have to eat on the patio with a heat lamp. I immediately asked for the night manager she and a male manager came out they advised us that they had walk-ins and due to the large Christmas parties they had, they have no tables for the people who made the reservations but they would try to accommodate us, so we patiently waited.(Note: the night Mgr was the one who originally suggested I make my rez at 5:30pm) So the Mgr comes out and says"we are setting up your table"! Well...our table was smaller than a Bistro table, set up in a corner right next to a Christmas tree, everyone in the dinning room were laughing it smelling at the set up, I told my husband I felt like we were at a Sweetheart table like a bride and groom. Lol. It was comical as nothing fit in the table, we asked for a side table to go next to it do we could stop least put our appetizers, drinks etc on it. This is not a review about the food. All we had was the bread and it was marvelous. However we couldn't get past the service. We live locally and decided to go here after a couple years and now we remember why it's been a couple years. Our first clue should have been upon entering we were told to sit wherever you'd like. Well we sat close to other diners and near the window for the awesome views. After a few minutes someone "dropped" off the menus and left. Too many minutes later the server came and asked for a drink order. Then we had to ask for a drink menu as we knew they had some great special drinks . Drink Menu came fairly fast.Needless to say by the time she came back for our drink we were already putting on our coats to leave. I feel sorry for the Fallbrook area if this is the nicest restaurant there. Took my bf here for his birthday as we were catching a show at Pala Casino. They were super nice and had the table decorated for his birthday with little bits of confetti. +1 star We had their seared scallop appetizer which was super delicious a good size for 2 people. +1 star That's all the positive feedback I can give... We ordered a bottle of Riesling... Waiter came back and said they didn't have ready and if I wanted it, it would be warm... THE? Then, my second choice? They were out of it. My biggest peeve at restaurants is being out of items. And let's just say there was NO ONE at the restaurant at the time... 6pm on a Saturday. I should have been concerned but reviewers on Yelp celebrated their anniversaries here... Maybe I should start looking at who is actually reviewing places I want to patron. The food? Aside from the scallops, everything was meh. My dish was supposed to come with fried spinach - was there any on the dish? Nope. So when I asked about it, the server said it was only meant to be a garnish but since it was still missing brought me out sauteed spinach. I hope I don't seem petty, but really this would be a 5 star review had it not been for one, little detail that AquaTerra overlooked: The fantastic view of the beautiful golf course and rolling mountains was marred by the dirty windows in the main dining room. I'm not talking dusty, or just a bit streaky, but rather fully dirty, heavily streaked, and impossible to overlook and comment about. Everything else was impeccably clean, so I don't really understand this oversight. I had joined a party of four for a business/get acquainted meeting and everyone loved their food, but the comments below only reflect my meal, as we weren't "passing the fork." Ceviche -- Made with "local" white seabass (I'm assuming they mean San Diego), fresh avocado, a delicious hot sauce, and what appear to be freshly-made chips. Garnished perfectly, the sea bass really makes for a satisfying and unique ceviche. The hot sauce and chips are on the side, so you can spice it up at your discretion. Baked Avocado -- I wouldn't re-order as I learned I like my avocados cold, not hot. Covered in gorgonzola, prosciutto, and roasted garlic. It had the consistency of a soft ice cream and was best eaten with a spoon. 12 Ounce Prime Rib -- Traditional and delicious. Nothing avant-garde or high-concept... just a simple prime rib with horseradish on the side, cooked perfectly to my tatstes. Roasted Garlic Mash -- Perfect Grilled Beefsteak Tomato -- Amazing Our server Jorge provided excellent service and the restaurant's ambience and decor were wonderful. Visited this restaurant several times during our weekend stay and management here could care less if ANYONE ate or drank here! Make sure to sit with Alicia or Juan as everyone else that waited on us thought they were doing us a favor. Service is slow...and you'll get a huge attitude from management or wait staff. Food is good and bartender Chris makes a great drink. Dessert menu needs to be revised to a better selection. It's a shame, service has gone so downhill...used to be great. This review is based on my last visit. I have dined here three previous times with no complaints. However... isn't there always a "however"? My wife and I saw that they were showcasing a local band playing on a Saturday night. Cool, sounds like fun! We made reservations for the patio and showed up on time. We were greeted by a hostess who clearly was not interested in being there and was introduced at the table to our waiter. Oh boy! I'm sure Juan had good intentions, but it was clear from the beginning he had no training. He was clueless on how to be a server. I blame AguaTerra for this. On a Saturday night which is bank for a restuarant to put out a hostest and a waiter with no clear concept on representing your company is unexcusable. Oh yeah.. the food.. is was ok, nothing more. Very disappointing drove from far away For this??? They have no clue. Patio is full as should be and they are lost. Got served appetizer with no silverware. By the time they got it the food was cold. The bartender actually came out with silverware and was very nice and helpful. But waiter not so much. Had asked for heater to be lit, he had to get help. Which never came. I absolutely love the overpriced nachos here. Great for sharing and great with beer and cocktails! The selection of beer is ok. More domestics and big names and no craft beers. boo hiss. I also ordered the cheese plate, which was OK. I wouldn't order it again for $16. Wah! Friend ordered stuffed avocado which looked delicious, but you only get 2 halves. I didn't want to ask for a taste and make her starve. Wah! Service was OK. The waitress seemed distracted. A bit of help from another server would've made the experience better. Aquaterra has great food and great drinks with a beautiful scenery. Some staff members however have no knowledge of communication skills and seem to lack knowledge of the menu (Karla). The bartender whom I spoke with was great though and made wonderful drinks (Vanessa). Each dish seemed to stand out and was very delicious. I tried to get ahold of a general manager multiple times to give some feedback but I was told she was too busy, sort of disappointing but that's okay. My husband and I were married at the Pala Mesa wedding venue 6 years ago. Having recently moved back in state, we thought it would be fun to revisit on our anniversary and eat at Aquaterra. I made a reservation a week in advance, the young woman I spoke to said Sunday's are hit or miss so it would be best. We ended up a little late as we stopped to look at the wedding venue. We arrived and waited by the hostess stand as there was a sign that said please wait to be seated. There were two tables visibly taken from that vantage point, it was clearly slow. A blonde woman was helping one table and made eye contact with me multiple times, not saying a word. After about five minutes of our standing there she said "we'll be right with you", then disappeared. Another woman passed by once and said nothing. Another few minutes passed of our awkwardly standing there, so my husband and I decided to take our business elsewhere. He remarked that it felt like we were on one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurant makeover shows before he fixes the business. We came here years ago and had a good experience. We still enjoyed seeing the venue but it was such a shame the restaurant service was so lacking that we felt the need to leave before even being seated. read more

A group of girls and I stayed at the Pala Mesa Resort - the rooms at the resort leave a lot to be desired (needs to be updated and some sprucing), but enjoyed our breakfasts at the Aqua Terra restaurant. Since we stayed at the resort, we had our brunches at the Aqua Terra restaurant. We opted to sit outside on the patio to enjoy the warm morning sun and beautiful views of the course and surrounding hillside. We were all happy with our breakfast choices. Good quality and right pricing. FYI, they only offer buffet on Sunday mornings. Service was wonderful - we had a very attentive and friendly waitress. If you are a guest at Pala Mesa Resort or are nearby looking for breakfast, I definitely recommend Aqua Terra. read more

I usually meet up with one of my best friends and we sit overlooking the greens just talking about life and enjoying great food. It's our hidden spot that's not over crowded and very few people know about. The only drawback is they close too early. I went there once on a Friday for happy hour and light dinner. We arrived around 3:30 to find that the sushi bar and main restaurant menu items would not be available until 4. We Ardennes cocktails on the patio and enjoyed the scenery. My wife orders the carne quesadillas which were very chewy. But we were still enjoying our selves. About 5:30 is when our experience turned very sour. We still had food and drinks when the hostess told us we had to leave our table because it was reserved for someone else. We had hoped to enjoy the band that was playing this evening but because of the disrespectful and rude customer service received at that point we decided to leave. My wife and I ate at Aqua Terra for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated right away at 5pm (with reservation) to the best view of the golf course. We started off with a fresh draft Hefeveizen and appetizer of artichoke and crab. Both the beer and appetizer were great. We then had the Top Sirloin which was as tender and tasty as filet mignon. The steak was almost 3" think. The glaze and flavor were out of this world. Nothing was left on our plate. Some minor irritants were the carpet was dated and perhaps a bit smelly, the chairs were not very robust (metal frame) for an almost fine dining restaurant. Next, the menus were not as clean as they should have been. Parking was a bit of a hassle. Lastly, the men's bathroom were missing tiles and was dated. All in all it was a great experience and the cost and overall value of the experience was excellent. Other than the dated atmosphere, we were delightfully pleased. Would recommend to a friend. I eat here regularly. I am a member of the Aquaterra Dining Club, and have been for years. The club has changed over the years. Currently, for an annual $99 membership fee, you get 50% off your meal (excluding drinks) for your entire party. Considering the price of an entree (in the $25+ ish range), it pays for itself rather quickly. So if I eat here regularly, and have been a member of the dining club for years, why only three stars? Here's a summary: Ambiance - Although the Pala Mesa Resort where Aquaterra is located was built in 1974, the restaurant has obviously been nicely remodeled since then. There are big plate glass windows where you can watch the golfers tee off. If you sit on the lower level, some tables have the added bonus of having a beautifully designed and maintained water feature where you'll often see birds frolicking. 4 Stars for Ambiance. Value - Since I receive 50% off all my meals, for me, the value is good. However, if you're reading this review, you most likely are trying to decide whether to dine here or not and are NOT a member of the Dining Club. (but, you can sign up for the Dining Club during your meal and get the 50% off that meal and future meals for one year from the date you sign up-plus a variety of coupons for things like free wine, golf, resort stays, etc, expiring on December 31). For those non Dining Club members, I'd say this is the kind of restaurant that the average person would go to to celebrate a special occasion since it is on the pricey side. Since this is classified as a "steak house" on Yelp, for two people to have a steak and either an appetizer or salad and non-alcoholic beverage would cost in the mid $100 range. 2.5 Stars for Value for non Dining Club members. Food - Somewhat tied to Value, is Food. The best word I can think of to describe the food is unremarkable. It is a Resort that caters to hosting weddings, and where people come for a vacation. I'm wondering if the favorable reviews are a result of "vacation high" or "wedding bliss"? Although I eat there often, I really do not have a "favorite" that I order regularly. Sometimes I struggle with what to order. I've had most things here, and I wouldn't describe any of them as the "Best XXXX I have ever had". Not the worst either, just "ok". 3 stars for Average food. Service - If you have less than three hours to devote to your dinner, do NOT go here. Although that amount of time is standard in Europe, for 40-ish miles north of San Diego, three hours is completely unacceptable. Even if you tell your server you are in a rush, two hours is about the fastest turn around you can expect. I have gone with friends, and warned them that service is SUPER slow, and despite those warnings, most end up looking for the server, asking the non-server wait staff where the server is, etc. For me, it's something I have become accustomed to, expect and accept. To others, it is annoying, at best. If you need to eat Gluten Free, you really need to be careful. I'd suggest ONLY talking to the Manager or Chef about your dietary issues, I have come to know what I can eat here, but would not trust the Servers as they are clearly uniformed, which is not consistent with the type of restaurant Aquaterra tries to be from their prices and slow service. 2 stars for Service. In summary, I go regularly, but that's because I am a Dining Club Member. If it were not for the Dining Club, I doubt I'd go to Aquaterra for more than an occasional drink. It has a lot of potential, but has yet to recognize it. Our waitress waited on the table next to us three times as much as she did our table, Like we weren't there. Main entrees is where it really went down hill. The ribeye was at least half fat and not the typical steak you would see for $40. I have had twice as good a steak at RJ's in murrieta for $15. It was really sad. My wife kept apologizing to me because she saw how bad the steak was. When She took back the half that was fat, not even a question if I liked my meal. My wife enjoyed her salmon, I thought it was overcooked. We order the chocolate heart for two and wait. 15 min later we get notified that we can only have the chocolate heart for two if we ordered the special meal. Sad that you didn't make extra of things on your menu. Overall, disappointing and won't be back. Sucks too because it is 5 min from our new house. Also, We noticed everyone in the restaurant with roses. I asked the host how you get them. He informs me that you had to have a reservation. Been hear a few times and have mixed reviews. Ive had amazing meals, and Ive had meals that fell a bit short. Here a few good things to know. - If you try something that you absolutely love, it may not be on the menu for your next visit. They change it often. Which has its pros and cons. - There is a strange system where there is a weird gap between the breakfast menu and the lunch menu, as well as between the lunch menu and the dinner menu. So its possible to arrive at a time of day when the only menu available for a period of time is the bar menu. I've not see this before and got caught between menus during one visit. - The champagne brunch on Sunday is a good value. For the price the food is adequate. I will say though that on the day we went for brunch the egg dish offered was poached eggs which I am not a fan of. I was, though, able to order some scrambled eggs at the omelette bar. On the flip side, during our dinner visits, I have had some great steaks and other dishes with suitable service. Especially during the time of year when they offer some lamb dishes for dinner. All things combined, we do go back occasionally go back and learn a little more each time. read more
