Ok, so the hubby and I had a little date night last night that kind of came out of nowhere, so we weren't exactly prepared. We didn't have reservations anywhere but were planning on going to Pala to play a little and listen to music. We were just going to grab some food somewhere...anywhere... but because we are early birds with our food, we were able to snag a spot at Anila's. Where is Anila's? It's in the back of Bar Meets Grill tucked ALL THE WAY in the back. The hostess walked us through the kitchen into a little spot fairly hidden with tables that were right in a smaller back kitchen. Small and intimate. When we were seated, we were greeted by Chef Anila herself. She introduced herself and talked to us about the concept and the menu. You could already tell you were in for a great experience with how passionate she was talking about her food. They have a regular menu, but she also has another menu that she changes weekly so that the regulars can always experience something new when they come to visit. She asks what you would like and immediately gets started preparing your dinner right there in the kitchen in front of you. We started with a basket of bread that she baked herself with a tomato, pine nut spread that was heavenly. My husband wasn't very hungry to begin with (I think he just wanted to play slots haha) but he said he could eat dozens of the bread with the spread alone. We had an appetizer of the bruschetta with the freshest ricotta that was so creamy that it melted in your mouth. My main was the halibut. Let me preface it with this... halibut is my favorite fish and I am super picky about how I like it. Like SUPER picky. Sometimes it's disappointing because it is dry or just flavorless. This was NOT the case with Anila's. I can tell you without a doubt in my mind that this was by far the absolute BEST halibut I've had in my life. The cook was perfection and the sauce, my husband loved the spread for the bread, but couldn't stop dipping his bread in this sauce. That's how good it was. The risotto was a nice texture and even the asparagus was perfectly cooked. Everything was so thoughtfully seasoned and beautiful. I wish we had room for dessert because I'm sure that was probably amazing as well. That gives us a reason to return if not only to try the desserts as well, but to see what the new offerings are that are always changing! We will definitely be back! read more

We even had the pleasure of meeting Chef Anila herself, which made the evening feel even more special. An absolute must, please, just go! Hidden in the back of the bar and grill restaurant at the Pala casino, is this absolute gem! You have to walk through the kitchen, past the dish washers to get to a hidden room in the kitchen, right next to the station the chef is cooking up fantastic food! It's an experience like no other, so quaint, intimate and classy. I absolutely recommend a stop! We allowed the chef to pick appetizers for the table - a cheese and meat plate, fresh bread with a pine nut, sun dried tomato and parsley spread (absolutely Devine), with pickled veggies. For dinner the chef recommended the Wild New Zealand John Dorey - a delicate flaky white fish with roasted fennel and charred broccolini. It was absolutely the best dish of the night! Service was absolutely outstanding! With the chef herself making recommendations on menu items. Definitely worth the drive for a fun night at the casino and dinner! First off, Pala does a terrible job marketing this restaurant, but seriously that is the only complaint. Just looking at the menu or even the display at Pala marquees, it's hard to tell that the entire restaurant is a chef's table experience. It was so cool being walked through the back of the kitchen at Grill Meets Bar and then taken to this hidden gem. We were greeted by Chef Anila and sat with an amazing view of the kitchen. Chef Anila came out and spoke to us before returning to the kitchen to start preparing our meal. There were only 7 or 8 tables which was nice and allowed a very personal feel to the meal. The food was beautifully presented and tasted pretty good, but it was just such a cool experience that we would absolutely come back. We ate every morsels, from the bread basket to the fried zucchini blossom appetizers, Wagyu hanger steak and Penne alla Vodka. Everything was cooked to perfection! Chef Anila was so sweet and friendly. She came and chat with us. We were too full to eat another bite and yet she insisted that we have a crème brûlée on the house to celebrate my husband's birthday. That crème brûlée was just as impressive. It was a classic dessert done exceptionally well. I almost forgot to mention that the service was also impeccable. There was nostalgic Italian music playing, and the kitchen was feet away. The head chef Anila. Greeted us warmly and told us she would be our personal chef. She recommended the charcuterie board as an appetizer. We also ordered the sea bass and crab squid pasta. All was excellent and tasted like a 5 star restaurant.
