I've came to Old Town Temecula a ton of times and always said I would eat at Bottega Italia. Finally a few weeks ago, I had a late lunch here with family. The staff were super friendly and sat us at a table inside. Our server went through their specials of the day and one of them was a salmon pasta that my dad ended up ordering. My sister and I shared a aglio e olio pizza and a Caesar salad. The salad was the perfect portion for us to share. The pizza was delicious! I'm not sure what blend of meat is being used, and I understand that some restaurants add pork or sausage, but these did not have the texture or flavor you would expect from a good Italian meatball. I then noticed the same flavor coming from the Bolognese meat sauce. The small bits of meat have the same flavor not so noticeable because being small bits. The meals were all prepared extremely well and everything tasted great. We ordered the chicken wings (nothing special), Arancini al Nero (rice balls stuffed with calamari in squid ink sauce) pretty good but better served warm; for entrees my husband got the Carbonara with pancetta (good, peppery and not too saucy) and I got the "meat of the day" for a market price of $43. Filet medallions (2 thin steaks) with sides of vegetables-potatoes, cauliflower, etc. the menu should've said "mixed vegetables with a side of filet. I have tried better tasting filets for a lesser price. Worse thing of all, it wasn't warm and when the server checked up on us I mentioned that it's not warm. She offered to warm it up. I ordered it medium rare so if she did, it will be medium??? Had she brought it up to her manager, I'm sure they would've done a better alternative. We made a quick trip to Temecula and after winetasting had dinner in Old Town. Started with Beery Italian cocktail and it was excellent. I highly recommend if you enjoy drinks that are slightly more on the sweet side. Had the Regina pizza with prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, and cherry tomatoes. The cherry tomatoes were especially delicious. We sat outside next to the bar window where we enjoyed watching the bartender making fresh strawberry syrup from scratch. I asked him what he was making, and he was incredibly friendly taking the time to explain the process and how they use syrup in their cocktails. He definitely deserves a five star shout out for his friendliness and willingness to share. While all the employees were welcoming, friendly and very nice, one stands out, "Manuel" I spoke briefly with Manuel when we're first arrived and detected a Sicilian accent.... He was gracious enough to do a short video, in Sicilian, to send to our cousins in Catania, Italy....What a cool dude he is for doing this, it will make their day! Each of the dishes had an authentic Italian flavor. The staff was especially helpful in making sure that I had lactose free cheese on the appetizer tray. We all loved our food, drinks, and dessert. We have been to Bottega several times since it open, along with their other sister restaurant in town. The receptionist was very nice and kept telling us that they were getting the table cleaned up but honestly what was there to clean if there was no there sitting to begin with? We finally got to sit, ordered our drinks. One drink got sent back but it looked and tasted like OJ. Our food arrived all spread out. Not as tasty as it use to be. I ordered the Cesar Salad, super salty and not the presentation needed help. The pizza was good, the calamari was good too. But overall we could tell that the quality has gone down. It so sad to see this before our very eyes because we know exactly how delicious and awesome the food use to be.
