I didn't know what to buy in here....because everything looked so interesting. Aquamarine sets themselves apart- probably the only Nepalese Gift Shop on the Haight strip. The folks here specialize in Rhythm bowls which they have in several sizes, but they also have Beaded Bracelets, Affirmation Stones, Jewelry and so much more. My daughter had her sights on Oils and other accessories to bring positive energy to her new apartment in Portland. I actually stayed low key and got her message stones on the down-low as a surprise gift. I liked this shop quite a lot- but I'll be honest though, I'm not sure if their singing bowls are originals or mass-produced ones. But felt the products here are as authentic as they can be, not knock-offs and are worth buying. Kabina(?) was patient and wasn't pushy while my mini-me decided on which items to buy. I've been to shops while sales people pile on the guilt for you to buy something. But I liked how she didn't push me- or anyone else for that matter. My husband and I had the most incredible experience at Aquamarine. We were in the store for almost 2 hours. My husband has played 100s of singing bowls around the world looking for the right one for over 25 years. The handmade bowls here are stunning, and Rajeesh spent so much time with us. He turned off the music so we could hear closely, told us all about the process of making the bowls, explained how healers use it in ceremonies, and even let me record him singing the mantra carved on the side of the bowl so my husband can learn it. Making a major purchase, especially when you've been searching for something like this, the service and time and personable-ness really matters. We were at Haight Street at a salon and I dropped in. What an amazing place. I LOVE their stones and jewelry. I was looking for a specific aquamarine stone which I didn't find. The owner was going to contact me but I didn't hear back. He may have lost my contact info or I may have not recognized number and blocked. I did end up buying the most beautiful moonstone pendant that is one of the best quality stones I've ever found and I see a lot. I'm going to the salon right by there and will stop in again and show him the aquamarine I found and see what he thinks. He was very kind and I look forward to returning whenever possible. The storekeeper is very helpful and knowledgeable and takes time to explain the meaning of things. You know when you're in the market for a colourful Tibetan shoulder bag and just can *not* find what you're looking for? Me too. I wandered into this little den of tranquility on the lower Haight and fell into an easy convo with the owner, a super friendly subcontinental / Himalayan dude. I didn't want a convo. I didn't plan on it. It just happened. Seamless. And instead of trying to sell me shit he just shot the breeze, there we were hanging out like two humans chewing the fat about, y'know, life and stuff. Why can't all shopkeepers be like this? This is the dream. The ultimate. Then I turned around and there, past the glass counters of rings and ornate jewelry, I saw it. My colourful Tibetan shoulder bag. With secret pocket and zipper. For $25. In as many different colour combinations as I could dream about. YOINK. I stayed chatting with the owner dude for a while longer because hey, good times, and then he walked me down the street a bit to show me where the bus stop I needed was. If I was a woman I would demand this guy have my babies. That's how ace he was. And because I know you're wondering, my bag and I have had many adventures. Too often good color aquamarine beads turn out to be dyed inside, these were not, I was very pleased. Hope to see them in the area again. This is probably my favorite spot for jewellery on haight. Everything is pretty feminine, but the few studs theyhave are really great. Everything is made by the family that owns the store. I believe in Nepal. Amazing place if you are looking for crystal or stone jewellery. My lady friends from elsewhere are hounding me for their necklaces. Great vibes. Their tapestries are really great and authentic, but really religion inspired. Only complaint is that the hours are unpredictable and not posted anywhere. I have been a fan of Aquamarine Enterprise for years. I used to see them at festivals and fairs and I always thought they had the most unique and high quality inventory. Their gemstone/sterling silver jewelry is better than anyone's collection I have seen. And what's best, is how amazing the energy is. I was on Haight Street last month with my daughter and came to Masonic, and usually everyone turns around there and heads back up the other side because most people know there is nothing to see beyond that point. Or, if there is something to see, that segment seems bleak just from glancing. I talked my daughter into walking that block anyway, and I look across the street and thought... Weird, Aquamarine Enterprise?? Can it be?? So we crossed over and walked in AND IT WAS!! The same friendly face greeting us that we so loved dealing with years ago! Raj is such a nice guy! It was really awesome to find him again. These are the kind of vendors you never want to loose contact with! About the store: It is small inside and quaint. The products are arranged very cleanly and shows great care. I like clean stores where I don't have to dig through things to find what might be there. When stores do this haphazard chaos, I feel the seller really doesn't care about what they are selling as it shows in the amount of respect they have for what is within their shops. I'm not a fan of indifference when someone is selling me something. Aquamarine Enterprise has been doing this for a long time and still has that real connection/care/pride to their native handicrafts and treasures. The sterling silver and gemstone jewelry is still top notch and dazzling! Flags, scarves, purses, clothing, statues.. For a small store, they have everything, and it's about quality, not quantity. Like I said, it's very well organized inside and clean, almost temple-like with its uncluttered, carefully spaced and placed items, whether hung on the wall, placed in a jewelry display or on a shelf. This is a hidden gem and I would really, really insist that you make a purposeful effort to go beyond Masonic and stop in and say Hello. Raj is amazing to deal with and he is very friendly and so knowledgeable and loves to share his culture with everyone. My daughter and I are beyond ecstatic to have found them again! read more
