I absolutely LOVE this store!! Therapy is exactly that: good, old-fashioned retail therapy for all price ranges! From funky, modern cookbooks to cute stuffed animals, purses, youthful and quirky women's clothes, beautiful silk scarves, and feminine jewelry (including real gold earrings!), to lots of fun cards for any occasion (including Jewish holidays, which is important to me!), socks with funny sayings on them, hipster aprons, soaps, candles, fun tchotchkes of all sorts, there's a LOT to delight in inside this wonderful store! I would call it WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, because the entry is definitely accessible, and if anything isn't, the employees go out of their way to move things and make it accessible! Their attitudes in general are very friendly and helpful, as is that of the owner (it's a woman-owned store!). Therapy doesn't close until 7:30 pm, which gives you plenty of time to run in for a birthday card and gift after you leave work and are on your way to a friend's birthday party! I hardly come to the city, but I was in the area waiting for my folks to be done at their social security appt. Before walking in this store, I went to 2 vintage stores "no shop" And "nowhere". Both of the guys that were working there didn't not greet or even bother looking at me gross. So I had different expectations coming inside this store cuz the cashier was an older man. Prices are reasonable and the staff are great. Excellent stop to take tourists to. A wild assortment of San Francisco-centric and generally fun things front of house. I don't usually write reviews, but this one is long overdue. Therapy Stores on Valencia Street is, without question, one of the most special places in San Francisco. It's more than just a boutique... it's a warm, welcoming little pocket of joy in the middle of the Mission. One of the reasons I keep coming back (beyond the incredible gift selection and stylish, inclusive clothing) is because of the owner. She's owned this family-run business for over twenty years, and you can feel the love and intention behind everything in the store. She's one of the kindest, most humble people I've ever met, and every interaction with her reminds me why supporting small businesses matters so much. What really blows me away is that she always remembers me. Every time I walk in whether it's been a month or six she greets me by name and asks about my family. She remembers the little things: that my best friend I normally shop with here got engaged, that my dad fell ill last year, even what kinds of gifts I usually gravitate toward. It's such a rare and genuine connection, and it makes shopping there feel personal in a way that big stores could never replicate. Beyond the amazing people, the store itself is beautifully curated. You can find gifts for everyone !! From toddlers to grandparents, quirky coworkers to stylish best friends. Every item feels handpicked, and the range is both thoughtful and playful: hilarious greeting cards, cozy home goods, funky socks, beautiful clothes in all sizes, and unique accessories you won't find anywhere else. Recently went in to the store earlier this month with my Girlfriend, and had a horrible experience, definitely felt profiled, and seems this is a common occurrence for other Latino customers. While in the book section I was asked "if I wanted to have my scarf brought to the front to hold", when I asked why, the clerk said "so that you can pay for it once you finish looking at the books". When I told her it was mine she said "it just looks like one of our scarfs". Immediately just felt uncomfortable after that, but stayed because I was looking for gifts. Then when I went to a different section of the store the clerk was right there next to me flipping through books while I browsed in the same section. Pretty much was fallowed. Live in the area too and have been to the store before, but that just left such a sour taste. read more

My friend just moved to SF and after some coffee and bookstore browsing, we headed to therapy. I was so excited to show her how cute the shops are in the mission (my neighborhood). I keep trying to reflect on what could've been the "why" but the worker behind the counter kept coming up to us as if we were stealing. I have never stolen a single thing in my life. We are two Mexican women but that shouldn't be an anomaly for Valencia St so I really don't know what. I decided to ignore it and continue to have a nice time. We get to the counter and my friend checks out with a good money's worth of items. The worker quickly points out that she's no longer holding the scarf she had earlier (the reason being we just didn't like it anymore so I put it back in its spot for her). Weird but okay. Then I check out. The only thing I grabbed the whole time was sunglasses and that's what I was checking out with. She then asks me "were these the same glasses you were holding before?" Yes, duh. You're probably wondering why I even bothered to check out at this point and didn't walk away but honestly I was too taken aback. This isn't the worst part though. She tries to seem friendly and asks my friend what neighborhood she lives in (not the mission). She tells her and the worker responds "oooh bougie," and not knowing that I live here, she continues that we are "feeling brave to come to the mission" in a way that was clearly disparaging to the neighborhood. WHAT. Does the neighborhood have its issues? Yes. But it's a BEAUTIFUL place and that introduction to the neighborhood is NOT what I wanted for my friend. I LOVE THE MISSION and it's highly disappointing come into this store and have them disparage it to people not familiar with it. I will not be coming around again needless to say. read more

I was browsing and approached by staff and asked to please leave and never come back. Incredulous, I asked what it was I had done. I was told it was their store and they didn't need to provide reason. I've shopped there since forever but apparently I rang their bells as they profiled me as horrifyingly wrong in race or sexual orientation or I don't know enough to 86 me. Unsure why still, I'm guessing either a bigoted response from staff over something. So sad to be mistreated without explanation and offered hollow apologies. They have an incredible selection of clothing, home decor and the cutest little gifts! The staff are super friendly and welcoming, they really make the shopping experience fun! They're knowledgeable and just make you feel like you're at home there! I will never walk by this place, I will always pop-in and take a look around and take the opportunity to say hello to the staff. What a wonderful experience. I wandered into this store after a recommendation from a colleague. I was seeking a particular item, stationery for letters and envelopes. As soon as I entered, Danielle welcomed me with a smile and offered to help. She listened carefully and brought me a wide selection of products to choose from. Each package had a different theme with cards, stickers, and envelopes. I was so pleased with the price and cute factor of all the products. Danielle invited me to explore the store after I made my selection. There are so much fun gift ideas from coasters to bags to women's clothing. Over the years, I have enjoyed every visit to a Therapy Store in Mountain View. I was never thinking there were more locations. A half block off the 22 MUNI line 16th St and Valencia stop on Valencia is the original store. It was lots of fun picking out a gift with the young lady behind the counter. This post is dedicated to someone very important to me, fellow yelper, partner in food crime, hubby and best friend (Armstrong B) whom I have shared very fond memories with at "Therapy" but also in life with in general. In fact, if it wasn't for him I would have never found out about Therapy OR even Yelp. Now it's MY turn to treat him to some much needed "therapy" if he will just accept this very public display of my love, gratitude and sincerest of apologies for my past behavior and forgive me during my weakest moments? :( I just absolutely need Therapy sometimes (don't we all?) especially, during this extremely difficult and depressing pandemic, bundled up with the loss of our Benji, the loss of all sources of my income, my declining health and our financial insecurity which has been taking its toll on my family. I would often seek comfort and distraction by way of little cute Knick nacks, an array of useful cook books, funny socks, inspiration mugs and unique clothes. It's always managed to be there for me during the lowest parts of my life. However, now I'm finding I may soon need even more "Therapy" in my life, if husband (of almost 16 years btw) gives up on us without so much as a word (literally.) So I'm asking him to just go get some "Therapy" with me rather than trying to run away from problems and lose sight of what really matters most in life (besides gaming and shopping of course) which are the people we LOVE. You can't just keep making empty promises to someone and then not back up those words with actions when the time comes, no matter how difficult the circumstances, otherwise, you may end up regretting it later. Always choose love even when it's hard because that's when it matters most. And be sure to support all those you love (including small local retailers) during these difficult times and remember to ALWAYS be KIND and go to THERAPY if you think you need some (the retail kind or otherwise.) This is my favorite Therapy store that I've been to! Nice service--someone welcomed me in to the store and 2 women asked to start a dressing room for me. This was the largest sale section I've seen at Therapy, as well as the largest selection of funny yet woke and educational books as well as cute knickknacks like cards, bottles, socks, jewelry, Toms, Timbuk2 bags, cards, skincare, and so many things I never realized I needed (not that I bought them--but I did realize I had a use for them.) There were lots of tourists in here because there was a large selection of SF, Mission, and Bay Area-inspired goods like shirts, socks, bags, artwork, and jewelry. I will definitely be back to this Therapy store when I'm in the Mission--I just wish it was closer to downtown! TLDR: Not a fan of the location. Come for the staff, sale section, and large variety of goods, moreso than at other Therapy's I've been to. read more

The store itself is quite cramped due to the amount of products they carry, but there was enough room to walk around while maintaining social distancing. Therapy Stores truly is my therapist! When I had a bad day, this place could really cheer me up! I may have spent more money than I should, but it's such a great place where you could find gifts for pretty much anyone, including yourself. I mostly purchased cards (greeting, funny, sympathy cards, you name it!), anything that had Kitty on, super fun socks (see my pictures), mugs, and even baby stuff for my family! If you work in the Mission, they also offer a small discount, you just have to let them know. My girlfriends and I were having brunch next door when one of them told me they were having a sale at Therapy. In fact, two of my gfs stopped by before brunch and found some cute items. Of course, we all had to drop by afterwards to browse their sale. This was on Saturday, September 3rd around 2pm. I guess they were having a summer sale and had a bunch of sale racks in the back, in front of their fitting rooms. I found a cute pink top. The Adrianna high low top. Originally $42, but because it was 52% off, I scored it for $19.99. Hooray for sales! They had a bunch of other cute items, but I couldn't find some of the other tops I liked in my size. Therapy. Yes, I need it, but this is the closest I'm going to get to it. Came here with my brother because he wanted to buy a birthday card. And they have that, and more here. Any odd knickknack, funny memo pads, or plain junk that you'll probably never use or need is here. Their cards make me laugh though, and I was tempted to buy a Valentine Card for my co-worker Alicia, whom I've liked from day one. Who, for some reason, I seem to be completely retarded around when she's near. Dropping copy paper, falling out of my chair, catching my tie in the copy machine. Yeah, that's me, I'm not proud of it, but it is what it is. There were cards like "You're The Obi-Wan For Me" with R2D2 on it. Or "I got this Valentine's card today from 'you know who' why the **** is Lord Voldemort sending me a Valentine's Day card?" Then I thought I should get something more direct like, "I love you like a back-alley hooker loves crack" or "Do you have a plaster? Because I just scrapped my knee falling for you?" I pictured in my mind, how I would knock on her office door on Valentine's Day and hand her the card. She has a good sense of humor, I thought. But then I remembered how she chewed out another co-worker at a meeting for some document he forgot, and I thought to myself...well, maybe not. Then I thought about how we had lunch a couple times, where I unfortunately choked on my food, and thought I was going to die right then and there. I thought, well I know her somewhat; maybe she'll find it funny or flattering? Then I remembered the time she slammed the door and said the whole department could basically go to hell. I came to this shop right after a disappointing experience at Nest in Pacific Heights. (Someone told me that the Trovelore line of jewelry was carried by both shops.) This place was packed with shoppers and there was one lone Asian dude who was calmly checking out purchases, grabbing merchandise from the back room, and fielding questions from customers, including mine, which was, "Do you mind if I plug in my charger? My phone has died." He said there were several charger cords behind the counter and then plugged my phone in one of them and let me leisurely shop! So happy! Many items had me laughing out loud (a dish with the words "Where the fuck are my keys?" stamped into it) to wistful (a card: I hope their next life is filled with ten thousand tennis balls. I'm so sorry for your loss.). I bought two beautiful Trovelore brooches and two bags of tea. I wish I could have stayed longer, it was so much fun! read more

This was a really cute store to browse through. They have a small section for babies with cute plushies and toys that I think adults could enjoy as well. A substantial chunk of the store is dedicated to women's apparel and accessories. There's a section with really cute tops and dresses that are more on the girly, boho side. There are also a lot of bags from brands like Herschel. Kind of in keeping with that therapy name, they have some self help type books that are more satirical in nature and meant for a laugh. I can totally see the stuff just being therapeutic in terms of the pretty things to look at. read more

Well-designed graphics and eye-catching titles will definitely stop you for a bit. - Other things like Tom's shoes, Timbuk bags, clothing, etc. are all available. - Good place to relax, window shop, or get a friend a personal gift. - Many of the customers were having fun with the products they got, which make the store ambiance friendly. - Only downside is that it's a bit pricey. I once purchased a casual dress (~$50) from Therapy (of another location), and later found out that the color & quality wasn't as great as I first saw at store. Eventually, I found similar styles of dresses at other brands for a much cheaper price (~$35). - Saw a hat that I liked and is about $20. A really great place to find unique and quirky gifts--think funny cups, cooking books, astrology-themed jewelry, socks, etc. It's not cheap but when we came here after Christmas there was a store-wide 20% discount which made the prices a bit more palpable. I needed a last minute birthday gift for my boss, and was so happy to find out that the San Francisco location was open! During the current SIP order, they had an employee standing at the front door to greet you and be your personal shopper. I told her some ideas of what I was looking for and she brought me so many great options! I wanted to buy it all (and practically did!). She was so helpful and made sure I found exactly what I wanted. They also had some lovely face masks on display that I had to add to my growing collection! It was the best shopping experience, even with the current limitations. I could probably spend hours in Therapy. If not for that pesky problem of having a thin wallet, I definitely would. Therapy was packed to the gills on a recent Sunday. A saleswoman greeted me like a new friend. She probably would have kept talking to me but I'm awkward at small talk and kind of wandered away. It's so much fun to browse the items for sale which include a lot of home goods and present-type items, as well as clothing at reasonable prices. You can always find something at Therapy. For me - this weekend - it was a well manifested pair of striped socks. They were perfect for what I wanted. Just enough padding, just enough sass, and at just the right price. The staff here are always exceptionally attentive and friendly and it really makes a big difference in the store. I usually shop at the Campbell, California location, and I buy all my purses from this store. I had purchased a small black cross body bag last month. My fav little purse ever. but last night I was in SF with some friends and somehow the strap broke! Luckily I was able to fix it enough to last the night. We happened to be in the area and I look and I see this location! I ran in real quick just to see if there was anything they could do, it was a long shot. The manager on duty was so amazing. I obviously didn't have a receipt with me, but she was able to exchange my purse for the same one but brown (which is actually so much cuter haha)!! I was almost in tears with the amount of kindness and service. They are amazing! I will definitely always continue to shop at this store because they were so quick to help out a customer. Yes, their clothes are super cute, but extremely pricey (price is comparable to that of Urban Outfitters). Their dresses retail for about $50 - $70, and the shirts range from $30 - $40.
