The setting is gorgeous and the waiter was great. The menu lists 12 choices for dinner. That list included 2 salads , grilled peaches and grilled octopus- steak for $56 and sea bass for $36. . We had the sea bass. Mine was a small fillet which came with 3 small pieces of broccoli raab and a grilled lemon. The fish was fine, just grilled- no sauce. We weren't even brought bread. And the cocktail came in a small cocktail glass that was half full. I went home hungry. And I'm not a big eater. This may be a better place for brunch. As mentioned, its a lovely spot. read more

CONS - They had an attitude with us literally as soon as we walked in- not sure if it was because we were not white... and it was a race issue, or if it was an attitude because we had young kids with us. - Few guests from our party headed to the bar from the table at 5:55PM- which I admit is late for happy hour ending at 6... but the staff were purposely avoiding us and we just kept waiting to be serviced... When they spoke to us finally it was 5:58 they said they couldn't service us because happy hour ends at 6... well, it's not 6 yet... but okay! - we put in our dinner order late I admit, but it took awhile to get the kids settled... it took an hour to get the food served, which is fine... but when we kindly asked on status on the order so we could decide on kids sleeping schedule- they just were immediately defensive, kind and unhelpful. - the managers demeanor was defensive the whole time. He has no sense customer service- instead of being apologetic and seeing how he can help the customer, he was just complaining about us as guests? This guy needed training in customer service and hospitality. - he at the end was excusing us of wanting a discount or wanting our meals comped? It is so insulting--- this made me again think he was discriminating toward us because we were not white. Abominable food: I had ordered halibut and requested no starch but greens under halibut. Came an overcooked fish on rice. Sent it back reminding waiter of original request. Plates comes back with a spoonful of green sauce, no accompaniments at all and still the overcooked fish which by now is tepid and dry. Asked the waiter to put some green (not a spoonful of sauce) but i am only offered a side dish for an additional cost, i refuse (out of disgust not for the xtra cost). My friend had been waiting since we sat down for a glass of wine to accompany his 5 miserable scallops, swimming in huge pieces of bacons oozing fat... and a non cooked minced cabbage leaf (we are still waiting for the wine which never appeared...). We skipped dessert. Wanting to share our experience with the manager, my friend was asked to wait 20 minutes to, at the end, never meet the manager as he was busy with an event or maybe still fighting to open the bottle of wine...) in any case absent. The place is not understaffed as their were 5 waiters for the more or less 10 occupied tables, but the kitchen clearly needs a better chef and team and the restaurant management ...well i couldn t say as we never saw his traces... Cockroach city. It's so beautiful and the atmosphere is gorgeous but they need an exterminator inside and out. The food is sub par for the price. I couldn't eat the food I ordered because I saw the roach before receiving it. When we made our way to the car we saw roaches crawling all over it. I had my car detailed the following day inside and out. It turned out to be super pricey meal that I didn't even eat for all of my expenses. The staff was very pleasant. We had really high hopes for this spot. Unfortunately, it was not all we hoped it would be. The ambiance was great/venue was beautiful (venue is the reason for the second star) but the food did not live up to the setting and the service left much to be desired. One member of our party ordered the chicken and it arrived with quite a few parts of it raw. The manager's response was weak and the server returned and tried to tell us it should have been fine because the chicken is slow roasted. Speed of service was incredibly slow which would be tolerable if our drinks had stayed full and our server was not within our field of vision goofing around with other employees. Portions are really small for the price but 2 of the other 3 dishes at the table were delicious. Such a disappointment really that this spot is so close to home and we are never coming back because of this visit. read more

What a beautiful place and setting! The grounds are gorgeous and the inside is just as lovely. 5 stars The food was amazing! All dishes we ordered were excellent. I am found the portions perfect. 5 stars The only downfall or negative is the service. We waited roughly 15-20 minutes before a waiter came over to take our drink order. The restaurant was not full at all. We had to ask the busser to send the waiter to our table so we could order our drinks. Once ordered, and drinks came to the table, my son received the wrong drink. Appetizers and dinner came out rather efficiently and in a timely fashion. The red flag for us was about our daughter's food allergy. We had told our server that she has a life-threatening food allergy to all nuts. When her meal came out there was a suspicious topping on her dish. We inquired with the server and he said it was not nuts, and then said if it was, take it up with the chef. He said it in a joking way, but nut allergies are no joke. Once she ate the dish and he returned, he said, "Oh, you're not dead. I was right." I was stunned. Really loved the food and setting but I don't think we can return to a place that does not train their staff in food allergies and train them in the importance of taking them seriously and with respect. My mother and myself took a much needed vacation together. While staying at the Abbey inn, we ate at Apropose Restaurant, it really was delicious, Italian menu, we had the Antipasto platter, and octopus, we shared both. Entrees we shared the cavatelli and caserecci both really good and fresh. The dessert we had was a chestnut chocolate pie with mascarpone, as dense as it looked it was light as a feather. The Bar area and dining room beautiful, the bar was actually at one time, the room of the mother superior, The place has much history as it was once a convent. Our Bartender Jim as well as our server was great, really made us feel welcome, everything was served with style and flair. They were also very strict with covid protocols, which is so important, all in all we had absolutely no complaints. Looking forward to returning tonight. read more

We were excited to eat at Apropos-not often a close by restaurant gets rated in the Top 100 places to eat in Westchester. The food did not disappoint overall. The chips and dip were disappointing-the dip tasted like Lipton Onion Soup and sour cream, the chips were too salty and there was not enough caviar. The chicken was good but the marrow bone w escargot, the mussels, the mushroom flatbread, caesar salad and orecchiette were delicious. We enjoyed the bottle of Macon Villages. Service was lacking. Staff was not available and when asked for a glass of wine similar to the bottle, the recommendation of a Sauvignon Blanc was off the mark. Why aren't the wines available by bottle also available by the glass? Or something similar (an unoaked Chardonnay would be a close match). Staff needs to improve their wine knowledge and be around if needed! We plan to go back and hope service will improve. read more

Appetizers: Baked clams - 5 itsy-bitsy Little Necks and I couldn't find the clam. But well-seasoned for sure. Oysters - fresh... but 6 of them for $18. No seafood forks were available. Entrees - we both had Sea Bass. Simply prepared, crisp skin - quite yummy. But, OMG I've never been served such a small piece of fish, especially for $36. Came with one large stalk of broccoli rabe. Again, delish...but tiny! A la carte sides available, but the only "starch" is French fries. No rice or potatoes! Also, no bread basket at all. Dessert - only 3 selections available. The 2 we chose were delicious...but again, such a small portion. It was my Birthday and my dessert came with a candle -- very nice. But it wasn't comped, which is OK, but rather unusual. Coffee was perfect -- lots of strong flavor. But we were never offered a refill. Drinks: My Bloody Mary was very tasty. I requested not too spicy and they did it just right. His Manhattan was likewise perfect, but a small pour. Wine: nice selection. The view is great so request a window seat overlooking the Hudson. What a lovely spot. Idyllic location and great food and drinks! Our dinner here could not have been better. We were welcomed and escorted to a lovely, spacious yet intimate table complete with tufted leather settee. The ambiance and service was just what you would expect at a top restaurant. The food and drink menu offered a great variety and our family tried several different appetizers and entrees. All of the choices were excellent and the portions were very generous. Don't know how we managed to save room for dessert but we did! Some of our top choices included poached pear appetizer, burrata flatbread, pappardelle pasta with duck, roasted branzino. The service is not what we expected we had a reservation for Sunday brunch arrived at Apropos with 8 adults the greeter at the door was the worst, she made us sit at two different tables because she said they cannot put tables together and we would have to get two separate checks. Disappointing for a high end restaurant. (The place was empty) She ignored us the whole time. Thank god for the waiter he was great. Very sad 1st experience. I guess i know why there was nobody there. I think they need someone with a little better personality in that important position. First impression is everything. read more

The level of disappointment with this restaurant is unparalleled. While the food was decent, the service was appalling. Damian, our server was wonderful. He seemed knowledgeable and punctual. However, we previously purchased a bottle of 2013 Belle Époque 120th anniversary edition champagne to celebrate a momentous occasion at this location. The bottle was opened well. However, about half way through the consumption of the bottle another waiter cleared it and disposed of the remaining contents. This was, obviously, beyond astounding. See, our waiter was unable to keep the bottle on our table since it was a two top and we enjoy numerous dishes when we dine out. The waiter was keeping the bottle on another table that was not being utilized. The restaurant does not have free standing champagne/white wine holders, so the bottle must sit on a table. My husband is an executive chef in Pennsylvania so we often taste many courses at dinner. It was mentioned that utilizing a stand would be beneficial. However, the restaurant does not seem to possess any. So they placed the bottle on a separate table. This lead to another waiter clearing the bottle, and without checking with any other staff, disposing of approximately 1/2 our special limited edition bottle of Perrier jouet Belle Époque. Clearly we were very upset about this. The compensation we received from Jennifer, the manager on duty, was comped appetizers and bottle of red wine which certainly did not equate this specialty bottle from France and certainly not the parallel the sentimental value. Jennifer did apologize, but clearly there was not much anyone could say. I will say we were pleased with our experience at this diamond in the rough hotel with its spectacular views, until our sour experience with the service at the restaurant and the very minimal compensation offered for this appalling event. read more

Birthday dinner with 3 girlfriends. We were greeted by the lovely Eileen who graciously took us on a tour of the amazing Abbey and grounds. This is a gorgeous place, historic buildings lovingly restored, beautiful art and gorgeous gardens with incredible Hudson River views. We were seated in the restaurant in a socially-distanced booth. We had great cocktails, charred peaches and ricotta appetizers and the grilled branzini and orecchiette entrees were delicious. Service was a tad spotty, but understandable with recently opened space. All of us agreed, as this place matures and COVID world goes away, we will enjoy many more meals here in the future. read more

This was our first time here and we made a reservation for brunch. The grounds are gorgeous; we got lucky with a sunny cool early afternoon. With that said, we obviously asked to sit outside. There is not extensive seating outside, but would highly recommend. The grounds are quite picturesque with a fountain, some sculpture and plenty of greenery. We stated off with 2 Bellini's...well it is brunch after all. There is a cocktail menu with some Boujee choices that look tasty. As expected cocktails are like city prices. The menu is slightly limited, but in my opinion the choices do provide a range from some breakfast-like items to more lunch items, and from light not too heavy choices to more carby filling selections. We started with the steamed mussels which were actually steamed in vermouth. They were delicious - perfectly cooked, not too chewy and quite easy to eat. She then had the burrata flatbread and I had the chicken Milanese. The flatbread was quite tasty with mushroom and basil topping. My dish was a thick breaded chicken breast on top of a slaw. A bit heavier than I thought I wanted, so I shared the chicken..but it was on point! So juicy with that light crisp in every bite. This came with fries. Certainly other tasty items we could have choosen...perhaps next time. Service was polite and timely. Only minor inconvenience is that waiter gave us the wrong check...always helpful to check the bill before you hand over your credit card. Of course the Abbey Inn where the restaurant is located is a bit fancy, but this restaurant was a great choice for a little escape with a little ele lol óvation..the views of the water are quite stunning. We did walk the groinds after brunch. I am sure dinner would be great here as well with friends or family. I recommend this place if you are looking for a little more fine dining in Peekskill, want some beautiful views, little bit of nature and obviously tasty food! I think we'll be back. read more

Fabulous , innovative , healthy farm-to-table restaurant for dinners. Also serves lunches and Sunday brunches, but menu not as good. Thanksgiving day 1pm meal was beyond words. No heavy gravy and stuffing. Even the salad was incredible. No heavy dressing--just the true taste of veggies wonderfully seasoned. And the price was not over the top but reasonable. But the service is so bad it ruins the entire experience, have been to spa and restaurant a few times, spa is great, staff in spa super nice!!! Though dining much different experience, twice had same waitress that clearly does not belong in a finer dining restaurant, this last time was past just lacking service to downright rude. Manager on staff very nice and apologized sincerely in the middle of meal as It was so obvious how terrible the service was, but instead of improving it got worse , and took a spiteful turn. Wish nothing was said and just got through bad service and get out. Was just looking for a nice holiday meal with my family not an uncomfortable experience. Although there were many window seats with great views available, we were sat in a corner seat without a view. My husband and I arrived and the seater acknowledged our food allergies upon arrival- excellent! We were seated and left with our menus for 6 minutes before greeted. We ordered our drinks. Our server was not knowledgeable about our allergies or about our special occasion. Our menus were folded and well used, printer paper menus. From there we were disappointed with the wait times and that the wait staff did not anticipate our needs. My husband's chicken was grossly overcooked. Empty plates sat for many minutes. Water was not proactively refilled. Dessert was not proactively offered. Our espresso was not good. It did not feel like a special dining experience at all and we joked we have had better experiences at the local Dennys. This is a beautiful location but they treat dinners like a typical roadside diner. I would NOT recommend for special occasions. read more
