I was in desperate need of a mani/pedi on a recent visit to Chicago. I Googled salons nearby and April's had good reviews. I arrived at the perfect time as I was seen right away. The pedicure was so relaxing and the manicure was mostly good except for some pain with cuticle cutting. My nails turned out beautifully and lasted over a week, so no complaints there. read more

I really enjoyed my time at April's Nail Spa. They do great work and make you feel very comfortable and at peace. First, it's very clean in there. They have plastic Liners in the pedicure bowls which is a huge plus! I broke up with pedicure spot because they haven't jumped on this band wagon. I don't know who gave me a pedicure but she was fabulous and put me to sleep. For nails they are willing to do whatever shape you would like and they have plenty of colors to choose from. I showed them a pic of what I wanted and they were able to match it. I like the man there that does nails. He's pretty good. Just make sure to tell them not too close to your cuticles with the drill. They are a bit pricey but maybe that's normal. I did spend 20 more on my service than my normal spot but I would still go back. April is so sweet and I really love my nails. Took forever. Chunky, poor sculpting skills for sculpted (acrylic) nails, which had to be redone and ultimately were completed poorly with one coat of gel paint, not several covering the re-shaped area resulting in uneven paint application. The first person doing my manicure also braised me with the drill on my fingertip, which he shrugged off, dismissing my pain. Insane. I also woke up to left with a toe oozing pus yesterday because they are overzealous at removing side cuticles during pedicures and dunking your foot into unsanitary tubs. Overall would not recommend, the level of service for the price point is wild left $120 poorer and what do I have to show for it? read more

I went in for a manicure with gel. The lady who attended me was rude and wasn't answering my questions that were specific to the manicure. She grew impatient when she gave me two options of nail color and I took a few seconds to decide which one I wanted. The place only had four customers including myself. When I would put my hands in the warming gel machine my fingertips felt like they were burning. I hadn't experienced that before so I asked her why my fingertips were experiencing a burning sensation and she wouldn't answer. She was on her cell phone a lot too. I went on vacation the next day for five days so no cooking or washing dishes. By the 3rd day the gel was bubbling up. On the fifth day a piece of the gel came off. By the 7th day the gel of two nails had come off and on another one it was almost all gone. I went to get it removed and luckily I had someone else, probably the owner, do it for me. She was understanding and didn't charge me for the removal. She said she was surprised because the gel is supposed to last 6 weeks. If that was the case, why not offer to do my nails again for free or reimburse me for the $50 unsuccessful nail work? I will not go back even though the lady (probably owner/ manager) said that she would take care of my nails next time instead of going with the other lady. Maybe the day was off and the nail tech had a rough day so she made a mistake. I really don't know what happened. read more

I moved to Chicago in January and was overwhelmed by the options for nails, but chose April's because it was close. I am SO glad that I did. The atmosphere is relaxed and kind and my nails have looked incredible. I feel like they spend as much time is needed to make the nails exactly what you want. I've never felt rushed there and my nails have never chipped and usually last until they have grown out. They are always able to squeeze me in and are genuine (somehow they remember what I do and ask about my partner every time!). I will not be going anywhere else. For the quality and ease of always being able to schedule a time or walk in, their prices are great. I've gotten a few more complicated designs on my nails and they were able to perfectly match a photo I brought in. I cannot recommend them enough. There is also always (free) street parking which is another bonus. read more

I was blown away by the kindness of April and her wonderful salon! It gave me the best feeling supporting her and her business. I have received a manicure at a different place closer to me (rockstar nails in Evanston) and I didn't have a good experience AT ALL (felt very uncomfortable the whole time and it ended up being extremely expensive). This place is wonderful. April her husband D are so nice. I went to this place for many years under the previous owner. This was my first time coming since April and her husband took ownership. I called on December to book my appointment for today... my birthday Mani and Pedi. When I got there, April greeted me so warmly and welcomed me in. I got there early and I was prepared to wait. Instead, her husband came out from the back with 3 birthday balloons for me!!! April had remember when I booked my appointment that I had mentioned that it was for my birthday. It was just so thoughtful! I had initially booked a mani/pedi, when I got there I asked if it was okay that I do a no chip on my toes and a powder dip on my hands... I had never done the powder, and I had always wanted to. April was so friendly, we just talked and talked while she did my Pedi, which was nothing short of amazing! April made sure every step of the way that I was comfortable and that everything she was doing felt good. She was so attentive. My powder-dip manicure looks fabulous! It's a really cool process.. my nails are even, she took care of my cuticles, and gave me a lovely shape, which isn't easy with my super short nails. I walked in to get a pedicure honestly wouldn't recommend it. the older nail tech from this place cut my cuticles all aggressively and rush thru. i asked for a soak off for my acrylic toes and it was ignore. I got home and notice my cuticle area and the sides of my toes some are cut up and it burns. I'm surprise that the service was terrible and it's rated a 5 star. read more
