Applebees was pretty good tonight. Maybe it's because it's 2024 and a resolution of theirs LOL. The whole crew was showing off. Then when she showed up, there was no greeting at all no, where would you like to sit because the entire place was empty except for four people at the bar. we get to that table and the waitress couldn't remember not to put any ice in the drinks. Applebees was our choice last night for dinner because we had Christmas bonus gift cards and we wanted to watch the game. Please note: we were told that we could only use one $10 bonus card per order. We sat at the bar and the bartender (Lizzie) was wonderful. She was very polite and her customer service skills were outstanding. The issue that I had was not with Lizzie but the kitchen. I ordered the Quesadilla Burger and it was not cooked properly. The first time it came out, the cheese was not melted. Lizzie graciously returned it to the kitchen. They must have put the burger in the microwave too long because when they brought it back, the cheese was melted, but the lettuce was wilted, and the bread was hard as a brick. I only could eat the meat. Lizzie was so apologetic but I assured her that it was not her fault. It's unfortunate when you get an excellent bartender/ waiter and the kitchen messes it up. Lizzie had her manager comp the burger and I was grateful. My friend ordered the ribs and she enjoyed them. If I could give Lizzie five (5) stars I would because her service was terrific. I have been a big fan of Applebee's in the past. However, I might never go bacK after this evening. My wife, son and I stopped in for dinner after a movie this evening. Our wait was too long even though there were multiple empty tables that had not been bussed due to an apparent lack of staff. Service was also very very slow. Our server was nice but we could hear her apologizing to every table in her section. My chicken parm was also really poor. In fact, the edges were full on rubbery. I ordered $70.14 worth of food from Applebee's at Suburban plaza Newark DE at 2000(8 pm) 5/14/2021. Went home to find out that the fried onions on the $21.99 steak were raw and cold. Then found that the double crunch shrimp ( 5) I ordered was missing . Called and told them what was missing and asked for the fried onions and went back and waited 15 minutes and gathered the remaining of the order and traveled back home again . Awaited for my family to come home and we started eating at approximately 2200 (10 pm) . I began to first eat the shrimp which at first I thought my taste buds were off and spit it out, then had my husband eat one and he had the same reaction, we took apart the breading from the shrimp and they were RAW!!! Then bit into the ribeye steak and something was choking me as I was pulling out this Long White string that was wrapped around the steak and the onions. OMG , SO GROSSED out ! I called and spoke to an African American woman who said she was the manager , who I ordered my initial food with, then returned to get the remaining of the order with her and now this time I informed her of the above and she said " since you paid cash, we can't give you cash back , we can give you another steak or something for a later date but can't give you your money back " I snap shot the wrapped around stringed steak and raw shrimp and told her it was my first time ordering from Applebee's and the last and that if I didn't get the money back , I would call the FDA, she was nice enough to HANG UP and when I called back to get the complete spelling of her name and the girl who was giving it to me, then hung up on me also. There wasn't any cursing, raised voices, just discontent and this is how I was treated . The state of Delaware does not like restaurants that serve undercooked , raw fish and foreign objects in food .Having worked for the FDA, I have no problem getting in touch with them as they are available 24 /7 in case any Morons do not know this and by hanging up not once but twice on me, you basically have allowed this to be advertised to be an outrageous situation which you had full control of. And if you think this is bad, my daughter decided to travel Back to AppleBee's with the floss like material and raw shrimp and the so called Manager was Intoxicated and the bar tender told my daughter there was something wrong with her. . My daughter was given the $22 back for the steak at 2325 (11:25 pm ) . Dinner started at 2000 and a bowl of trix was determined to be the best nutrition for the evening . This place is a modern American gothic story. I drive past this Applebee's often. At night, the parking lot lights blaze merrily by the ACME, the Walgreens, and even the M&T Bank, which closed well before sunset. By 9:30 pm, the lot is deserted, as many of the businesses are closed or closing. The five parking lot lights by the Applebee's, the only business still attempting to snare customers, are off completely. It's black as pitch in the parking lot. A giant specter of a spider might loom above us and we'd never know as we carefully emerge from the car and walk into this failing hallmark of suburbia. No one is there to greet us. Three people are wearing black and sitting, side by side, in the booth closest to the door. We make eye contact. Perhaps these are the servers we seek? Perhaps not. They seem disinterested in talking to us. It seems, given the absence of a greeter, disinterest is a requirement for employment. I can't decide whether to speak to them or not. We ultimately decide to stare down at the old, defeated carpet. Time stretches long into the void. We mention the creeping darkness beyond the door to our eventual disinterested server. Oh, really?, she says. That's so weird. I'll mention it to the manager. But it's always, always that way in the parking lot. I'm afraid to wonder why no one who works here has ever noticed. Is it possible that they're trapped in a dystopian nightmare of their own creation? Locked, forever, in the abyss of $1 Long Island Ice Teas and Fiesta Lime Chicken? All I have to say is absolutely horrible service. I am never one to leave reviews when I have a bad experience, but this restaurant was just a different level from the moment we walked in the door with 15 people standing up front and no one upfront to help customers. Waited 35-45 mins for a "10 minute wait" to be seated to then wait another 20 mins just to even see a server. I went out to eat with my family. I ordered 2 appetizers plus a meal while they order two salads and meals. In the time that I got my appetizers everyone else was finished eating there meals. The server then proceeded to tell us that she could take half off the bill for the inconvenience, we got the bill and 10% was taken off. I have never experienced worse costumer and restaurant service then I did today. This place needs all staff retaught what customer service is and how to correctly go about restaurant issues. read more

2 stars for the fact that we had to leave a bar table to go sit at the bar in order to get service! The greeter the door was very nice (didn't catch her name.) She sat us in the bar area at per our request. We use to sit in this area & always had great service, however tonight we got NO SERVICE!! Just like another review I read, we saw several servers or employees standing around and chatting, yet we were never greeted at our table or asked what we wanted to drink. Upon sitting down I told Kasey D: "we moved here, because we got no service sitting over there!" He was all smiles and very polite when he stated "well that's great, I'm glad to have you!" I think he missed my point! I was very annoyed that I had to move to get service! I was at least expecting an apology and maybe even a statement like "I'm not sure what happened, but I'll take good care of you now!" Worst Restaurant in Newark. There is a male server who has single pigtail on the top of his head, don't know his name because he never introduced himself. I guarantee that you couldn't be a worst server if you tried. Last night we sat for almost 45 and didn't receive dinner. They brought out the fajita setups and they sat on the table for over 15 and we never saw any food. This review is for the management and owner of the Applebee's, not the food or staff. My husband, baby & I visited on 12/3 around 12:30pm for lunch. We enjoyed our server, and our meal. We had no issues with anyone, or the restaurant at any time. We left the restaurant around 1-1:15. While driving my husband noticed a note on our windshield. It was an extremely nasty note directed towards me because I am white, my husband is black. An act of racism, it was beyond ignorant. We were mind blown. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, (Andrew) who was very apologetic. I asked him if he was able to review the cameras and see who left this disgusting note. He said yes, took my information and said he'd call me back or email me the camera footage. In the mean time I filed a report with the non emergency line. I only wanted to find out who left this note so that they could be told not to do it to someone else. I was never looking for anything more then that. I spoke with an officer who stated she would go down to the restaurant and review the tapes. Now I understand officers are busy, and I don't think she ever went. Which is fine, however when I called that evening to see if Andrew reviewed the footage he stated their cameras were messed up and he reported it to IT. which immediately made me think that it was now a staff member who left this note on my car and he was covering for them! I contacted corporate and put in a complaint. The next day, frank the owner reached out. Basically said sorry, if the cops want to look at cameras that's fine but there's nothing we can do. WHY COULDNT YOU REVIEW CAMERAS AND SEE IF ANYTHING WAS ON THEM BEFORE I WASTED ANYONES TIME? All I wanted was someone to say, yes we seen who it was on the camera. I'm extremely frustrated that weeks later I have heard nothing. My husband and I were extremely hurt from this note. We only wanted this person confronted so maybe they wouldn't do it again and hurt someone else. Beware when eating at this restaurant, they obviously don't care that their customers spend their money there, but when they have a camera request they're either too lazy or covering their own staff. I went to this Applebees with my mother at 5:30pm tonight. The restaurant was mostly empty, so maybe 25% capacity. I asked for fries instead of the garlic mashed potatoes with my order. It took them 20-25 minutes to bring the food out and when she did, no fries, just garlic mashed potatoes and my entree. I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes for fries, so I just ate the mashed potatoes. About a minute later, the waitress brought some more napkins and asked how it was, which is pretty normal, but then she ghosted us for at least 30 minutes. I saw her across the room, facing our direction, but talking to someone for about ten minutes. They have the electronic box thing on the table that you can play games and pay your bill with, so I tried to pay the bill with it, but the server has to finalize your bill for it to show up on the unit. So I hit the "Call Server" button it and a red light started blinking on the unit. It blinked for 10 minutes, but didn't matter, no one came. There were three employees standing 8 feet behind me at the hostess station, but none moved a muscle. I finally had to ask one of them for our check and she went and told the waitress, who then talked for a few more minutes with her friend and then came over to ask if we would like our check. We said yes, and she went and printed it and then finally brought it over. Fortunately I had cash, so I didn't have to wait for her to get lost running my card. So I left enough money to pay the bill and about a 10-12% tip (only because the cook did his job, albeit slowly) and we left. When we left, there were still three employees standing at the hostess station right by the door and none said "Have a good night" or anything. My mother also uses a walker, so you'd think one of the three would at least offer to open the door, but nope. We will not go back. read more
