Food: I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla Salad which was pretty good. We had onion rings as the appetizer which we had to send back because they were badly burned. The second batch wasn't that great but at least it wasn't burned. Service: we were seated quickly when we arrived. However, it took some time for our waitress to come take our drink orders (and meal orders) because she was also bartending. The service was pretty slow and it made us hesitant to put other orders in because we knew it would take so long to come out. Ambiance: it was pretty dead in there. Granted we came in on a Tuesday afternoon so that's pretty much to be expected. Nothing special there. When it came time for the check, that took some time to get and when we did get it we were charged incorrectly for one of the meals and also double charged for the onion rings. When asked about the incorrect charge, the waitress stated that it was the "only way" she could ring the meal up. The menu stated one price but we were charged something different (more). Eventually she was able to charge the correct price and all was well. It should be mentioned though, our waitress was very polite and pleasant during our entire visit. Overall, this is just an okay place to come for a late night meal or during happy hour if you don't mind long waits for your drinks/order. If you have been avoiding Applebees because it's a chain, you need to make it a new stop on your meal search. They have New menu items that are truly delicious! We got takeout last night. I ordered the New Hot Honey Glazed Chicken and Glazed Skillet. The price was good for a dinner item. I removed the mushrooms, I just don't like them. The resulting platter was just hot and sweet enough with a beautiful grilled taste to the chicken. Even the fried onions and waffle fries hit the spot. My husband had the New Bourbon Street Chicken and Andouille Sausage Penne. He really enjoyed his as well! We topped off our dinner with our favorite desserts. It is raining and currently 7pm. Still waiting for our meal. Called and was told "she is busy." Seriously? Finally got our meals after I called inside a second time. She said she was "taking care of people who came inside." I told her it was my hubby's BD and I told him that I didn't want him to have to go inside to pick up his ToGo meal. I've had a few not great experiences and this one topped them. My carside order took 15 minutes longer than it should have, the people working the register were completely clueless and when I finally got home and sat down to eat my food was terrible. My burger was tasteless, my sisters chicken sandwich was also tasteless and had a weird glob of unknown food on it. Food was just ok. When we did actually see our server, the service was very rushed. i worked here for some time and if you want to come to a place where the managers(aka Garrett the GM) yell at the workers for no reason and let the other staff bully other workers then this is your place to go. He also treated everyone terribly and said multiple times that if he needs to replace the entire staff again then he will, scare tactics are not a good way to run the business. they tried to get multiple employees to resign by handing them resignation letters and telling them to sign them if they're not happy (which is illegal btw) just because these workers brought up the bullying issue and that it needs to be handled. There is so much favoritism and when new workers start they immediately do not feel welcomed into this so called 'family'. The managers believe that they are better than every body else and will constantly be sitting down while we're busy even though we need help. But then they get mad when we're behind. The food is OK but not worth the way the mangers treat the employees, and it's noticeable even as a customer. Just a little inside to what I experienced the entire time I worked here. read more

Hanging from the Middletown Applebee's is a large banner stating the dining room is open. When we arrived there is a small sign in the window that states need a reservation and gives the phone number. We didn't see the small sign earlier, but I tried calling off and on all afternoon to see if we needed a reservation NO one answered the phone. We arrived and were asked is we had a reservation and I proceed to tell them NO one answered the phone they did seat us. Suggestion make the Reservation sign bigger so it can be seen from Rt.#299 and most importantly Answer the phone!! read more

Vile food. I had a shrimp Thai salad covered in horrible "lime chili vinaigrette." There was so much of it, and t was so peppery that the rest of the flavors were lost and any peanut sauce was hidden by this sour and peppery glop. The greens were lackluster. The shrimp were small, few and looked odd. Just awful. My companion's low calorie steak plate was limp soggy spinach and pre-cooked steak. It was supposed to be on a bed of grains (maybe barley and rice) but there were only about three lone grains of something. I had a taste. Really awful. The app we ordered never showed. The manager was kind about this inedible meal and the waitstaff was pleasant. The table was sticky. My seat was covered in water before I sat down so I had to wipe it. I've traditionally avoided Applebee's based on general perception. Gave them a shot this week and was very pleasantly surprised. First of all the place has been recently remodeled and looks very nice. The local photos/art is a pleasant addition. Service was very good. Most importantly the food was excellent. I'm a burger snob and avoid the chains because I hate the whole some pink or no pink limitation. I want my burgers cooked rare! Asked the waitress to have it as pink as they would and I was shocked to receive a properly cooked, very tasty burger. Will add Applebee's to our rotation moving forward! read more

The fam and I went in for lunch around 3:30pm and the place was pretty dead. I am typically not an applebee's fan, but the hubs opted to take the kiddos there. Our server was nice and attentive. She told us about the new "table assistants" TED and how you can use it to order appetizers, desserts and games. (Insert a "huh?" look here!) Not really sure why anyone would opt to pay more for games when practically every human being alive has some sort of game on their phone, but I'm sure someone will take the bait. On to the food, I ordered from the new pub diet menu. I don't really understand the meaning of the name, but since I am counting calories I knew it would keep me honest. I tried the Cedar Grilled Chicken with Quinoa. I wasn't really sure about the granny smith apple relish, but decided to play adventurous and try something new. The grilled chicken had a really good flavor and surprisingly the apple relish and quinoa worked great together. I was happy with my meal and ate all of it. My husband however had to send his Bourbon Grilled Chicken and Shrimp back because it was "too salty" for his taste. read more

i meant to write this the other night after going to applebees. i had just worked a 12 hour shift in the heat, and i was tired and cranky and i just wanted some dinner. not too many options in middletown at 10pm on a tuesday night, so i came to applebees. my salad was vile, the lettuce was brown and it looked as crappy as it tasted. i also got a side of vegetables and they were overcooked to the point that i couldn't eat it. to top it off, the bartender threw major shade when i just ordered water. trust me, as soon as im allowed to drink beer again you won't see me ordering a damn water at the bar. but she was seriously rude. this place needs to do some major improvements before i'd ever set foot in here again. absolutely terrible. read more

Decided to give this place another chance since it's been 18months or so since last curbside visit. The previous time we received rotten baked potatoes wich the manager didn't care less about. This time around we decided to dine in. Note: if it's afternoon don't let them seat you on the side that faces Friendly's; the sun will blind you even with the semi-transparent shade pulled down. Several other diners experienced the same problem. Sounds contrite, but when the sun is watering your eyes and you can not see the person across the table without seeing white spots, you'll see what I mean. That being said, the place wasn't too busy for a Saturday. Maybe 8 other tables and 2 at the bar. We ordered steaks that took about 25 mins, not too bad. The server was nice and attentive, and only forgot a straw for drinks. Out of the two steaks, one was excellent and melt in your mouth, the other was so chewy most of it wound up in my napkin. The mashed potatoes were great and the brocolli was cooked fine, not too mushy or raw. As for the steak, It's just not worth sending it back and waiting while the other person eats, or their food gets cold while you wait. It really misses up the flow of dinner. They really need to work on their consistency. It's better to spend your money somewhere else so they don't get the chance to leave a $30 bad taste in your wallet. read more

Applebee's is pretty standard no matter which one you visit. This is no different foodwise. Given that, ratings are really determined by overall visit quality and the staff. Our visit was a tale of added charges and inflated bills. The waitress convinced us to "substitute" some side orders with our meals, and made it sound like it was an even substitute that wouldn't cost more. When the bill came, of course there was an added charge to our "side potato" (which cost what, 10 cents?). She refused to take the charge off. We also ordered a kid's meal, which comes with a drink. We ordered milk, and soon found an added milk charge to our bill. I asked the waitress to take that off, and she said the milk really was extra. The Kids Menu (we showed it to her) reads, "All kid's meals come with a choice of soft drink, milk, ...". The waitress read this and said she's sorry, but that's not how this Applebee's works. It's extra. I spoke with the manager afterward, and he was at first sympathetic, saying the milk shouldn't have been extra. However, when he found out my credit card was already charged, he said he couldn't refund me. I asked what he could do for me instead...and he said nothing. That was the end of the conversation. I looked back at the manager when we left, and he was laughing with a coworker. Skip this Applebee's. read more

Came here tonight after waiting at a table at tex ro for almost half an our. The wait at bees was way shorter (seated and served immediately). Got that 2 for 25 and yeah I'm definitely getting layed tonight. I love the presto pay station tablet it makes it so easy and quick just like my date. Visited this location after a lovely evening at FrightLand on a late Saturday evening. We were greeted by Antonio, the host. He was very professional, courteous, and engaging. Our server, whose name escapes me (blonde wearing a bandana) was equally as pleasant and prompt. The only reason I have given this establishment four instead of five stars is because the man who appeared to be the manager on site was skulking around looking for reasons to reprimand workers for socializing in a nearly empty dining room. It made for an awkward moment when the manager would yell at the host (who had no one to seat) for talking to guests. Keep your head up, Antonio! read more

HORRIBLE MANAGER!! Brown hair, younger with glasses. We were in at 5:30 on Saturday night. We were at this location yesterday.. only 3 of us, ordered a kids meal and two 6 oz. steaks. One steak came out literally half the size of the other. Manager came over, barely gave us the time of day and said she'd get another one and ran away before we could even say anything else. Cut into the other steak, RARE... supposed to be Medium well. Again, had to ask the host for the manager. She came back over and sarcastically said "hello AGAIN"... I was trying to explain to her that I needed my steak cooked up, just thrown back on the grill for a minute but she again, ran away and said shed get another one. At this point we had been there over an hour and mind you, had a two year old with us. 30 Minutes later new steaks come out, the one was so burnt you couldn't even eat it, and the Medium Well was RARE again... At this point we asked to talk to the manager again and she wouldn't come over... she sent our server back to get boxes and told him to tell us she took it off the bill. Never once said sorry, never once offered for something else, nothing. She was so rude, and horrible and I couldn't believe she wouldn't even come over to talk to us. Did see her just hanging out and laughing behind the bar a couple times, but that is it. Our server, Jeffrey was great though! The hostess that was cleaning tables was sweet too. That manager on the other hand....... so bad/ I will stick to the suburban plaza location in newark, we never had these issues there. read more
