Just wanted to give cudos to the staff. Was in town for the high school state skiing championship and had to find a place to accommodate 25+ kids and 6 adults. We usually frequent locally owned restaurants, but found a $25 coupon, so..ordered 2 entrees, an appetizer, and two drinks. Food was what you'd expect here...not bad. Service in the mtns. is hit or miss, and often mediocre. Sat in a bar booth. The service here last night was great, hosts were focused and friendly, and our waitress Samantha was just great, the best service I've had in quite awhile...she needs to get on with one of Durango's top shelf restaurants. My family lives near Durango, and this is one of my Dad's favorite restaurants. I guess it is the large variety on their menu. The food is fine, but nothing special. If you want consistent food quality, and affordable pricing, this is your place. If you want something special, visit one of the many upscale restaurants in the Durango area. read more

Even for an Applebees it's bad, food is dry and so obviously crappy made, they don't even try to hide it. I wish I could give zero stars. We visited this location and waited 35 minutes for a table. There was a table waiting for us it just needed cleaned. We sat as we watched to people clean a small table and then both went out to smoke on a busy mothers day during lunch. RIDICULOUS. First of all, I am all for giving second chances. The last Applebee's we ate at was in Maryland. It was a terrible dine-in experience. Applebee's use to be so good. So I tried the one here in Durango and it was just a terrible as the one in Maryland. They were out of baked potatoes, which they told me as they gave me my car side to go order. I didn't want any of the other side options and a refund for the item apparently was not an option. We get home to find that the burger I ordered my husband had only three French fries with it! Wtf?! I called them and they said we could come back for the fries. At that point I was not going back for fries. Unfortunately, we decided to eat the food we did receive. I would do zero stars if it was an option. Waited for the hostess to clean offf a table even thou there were several empty tables. Waited, waited for someone to take our order. I was ready to get up and leVe and finally someone came. She said she was just helping out. Ordered 2 drinks and the $13 appetizer plate. Waited, waited for drinks to arrive. My margarita came. Trouble with the beer. Need to wait foamy, waiter came back oh they know the problem just changed kegs. Hubby ordered a different beer. Told the waiter the experience wasn't very good. Manager on duty came over explained it to him. He said he wanted to fix it for us. He gave us a big 10% off the $13.00 appetizer, a whopping $1.30 for their sucky service. This is a terrible place to eat. So waiter comes to the table and right off the bat starts complaining about the people not doing their jobs he's doing it all. So we place to order and wait 15 minutes just for water and then only got it because i had to ask the waiter for it. Never see him after he drops off the water! There are several wait staff standing around with lots of durty tables that need cleaned. One guy is doing all the work from what I am seeing. Have been waiting 25 minutes now for soup and salad? The management REALLY NEEDS to do a BETTER job on training or people just need to get a BETTER working ATTITUDE. Overpriced for small portions and subpar food. The margarita was small and made in a sloppy manner. Tartar sauce was a weird ranchy sauce and the cole slaw had cilantro in it. They have these game tablets on each table. BEWARE. The waiter tried to charge us $1.99 for using a tablet that didn't work until we were done with the meal. We were also not advised of this charge. The waiter also insisted that the juices listed in the kids' menu meals were not part of the meal even though there was no upcharge price stated in the menu. Ordered the nachos. Seemed pretty hard to mess up... or so I thought. They came with chips soaked in grease and a mystery sauce that wasn't quite cheese, wasn't quite ranch. I still have no idea what I ate. My boyfriend had ribs. From what animal I am not entirely sure. Raccoon? Bob cat? I almost forgot my nachos had a French fry mixed in that had clearly been in the fryer for the better part of a decade. It had fossilized into something only an archeologist could identify. What a horrid experience. Both plates that were served had hair on them. Unbelievably, there was an additional problem with each dish! The sauce that came with one of the shrimp and steak dishes tasted off, and I'm pretty sure this is what made two of us sick the next day. On the other plate, I think the salad dressing had expired, as it smelled of rancid eggs. With that many problems, rather than complain to a manager I wrote to Applebee's corporate to let them know they had a serious problem at this restaurant. Rather than check into it, they had the local manager call me. He essentially asked me to give him a gold star because he "had a talk with his team" and "went through the kitchen with a fine tooth comb". Applebee's Corporate, and this Applebee's have no concern for customer health, which ranks much higher than a high quality meal. Worst service I can remember ever having. We read the yelp reviews while sitting at the table and they were literally happening to us as we were going down the list. Drinks arrived late, had to ask the server more than once for a glass of water for the both of us. The food was good, but the server took a long time with everything and had an attitude and was mouthy with us. I couldn't believe how bad the service was. It was absolutely laughable. Meanwhile in the booth right next to us, the manager was called to the table because a child had gotten a jalapeno pepper in his pasta, from overhearing their conversation they were more than displeased with their experience as well. I have never left a review on yelp for a restaurant. But I wanted to do my best to prevent anyone from going there. We were not greeted on arrival, and our table was messy when they walked us to it. Our server was rude, unprofessional, and forgetful. My"12oz butcher's choice steak" was probably 80% fat and the baked potato tasted a week old. Steak was cooked horribly and not to my asking. Hostess was nice. Waitress was not good. Took forever for her to come back to take our drink order after I got back from washing my hands. When she came, I was still undecided so she abruptly said she'd give us more time. She quickly left, came back to another table took their order and then put it in. Then came back and we ordered water for us and 2 kids sprites half full. She repeated the sprites and rudely said ' you want small sprites AND half full'? Yes. She brought them 3/4 full. We ordered and I was undecided still. I ordered a salad and husband ordered a steak. I changed my mind and had to get the hostess to find the waitress. I debated changing it because of her attitude but I tested her. She failed. The sliders I ordered, rolls were burnt but meat was juicy. The steak was overlooked but tasty. Tortilla soup was good. We asked for a side of ranch and an extra plate, brought out a icy cold plate with ranch dish. (Extra plate was for hot food, as our kids are small and don't eat much so we share. Food was brought hot, she quickly left and didn't come back until food was 1/2 gone. Just poor service all around. I wouldn't have left her a tip but husband felt like being nice so I didn't push it. Lol Restaurant was dirty, floors needed sweeping and could tell they're working in it but lots of employees standing around. Bathroom was clean but not clearly signed. Food was good overall but service was just lousy. If I were drinking alcohol I may not have minded but dining with kids, I expect better service! I've been coming to Applebee's in Durango for almost 2 decades now I have to say the disappointment watching this establishment go down hill for the last couple of years is phenomenal. Came in tonight to have dinner with my wife and one of my kids to get a quick bit to eat it started off ok : the waitress brought us drinks and water which was all great and fine but gave us water with lemons in it I do not like lemons and especially in my water thanks for asking I also ordered a beer which she informed me that the bartender was out for a few and would get it to as soon as she returned which was not a problem at the time. She very respectfully took our order and then disappeared until our food came out 20 minutes later. I watched as my beer set over by the bartender for 15 minutes when another waiter asked the bartender who's beer it was the bartender pointed to my table and me brought my long awaited barley pop thank you sir for doing your job and I guess your coworkers also I watched from the side as our waitress spent the majority of her time talking to another table that happened to be her friends, look I understand that in your career path that you will see people you know and want to visit with them but I am paying you and the company you work for to make sure me as the customer is taken care of which you did not. Thanks for never checking to see if we needed more drinks thanks for not seeing how our food was thanks for not doing your job. For the gentleman that brought me my beer thank you for doing your job and hers. My tip reflects your service I'm also more then happy to give 20/30% because I understand how hard your job is but that means you have to do your job which lady you did not. For the lady that served us you received a $3.47 tip 9.7% of the bill because that's how much effort you gave my family and I tonight. After being told that we could not split the check in order to pay in cash and on a card, we payed it all on a card and asked for a receipt so that we could split it ourselves. I will never return here! Three employees standing around in the front when I was walking in and no offer to hold the door open when my handicapped grandma was walking in and I was carrying my baby in his car seat. We got sat immediately and the server asked what we would like to start with and we ordered water then saw that she didn't offer a perfect martini so we get to receive a free one.... this didn't come until after I food got to our table which we didn't order for fifteen minutes or so. We had ordered some steak salad, ribs wth grilled veggies, and four cheese chicken cavatella something like that and when it came there was three LITTLE pieces of chicken and the grilled veggies with the ribs was burnt and couldn't even eat them. I couldn't find our server so I had to ask another employee and then asked for the manager and he offered to just add more chicken on. This was my third time in a row trying applebees and being disappointed and didn't even want the food anymore and said to just take it back to the kitchen. This whole time the server came to our table to gives us our first round of drinks, food, and our bill. Never once checked on us at all. Went in for lunch on new year's day - grumpy wait staff and uncleanly floor and tables. Waitress took our order (salad, how hard is that?!) and never returned. Had to ask at 45 min in about our order and she replied the kitchen was a mess...people who got there after us got their meals, so at that point we got up and walked out.
