I am horrified my my experience here today. I came in with my iPhone's apple logo screen frozen (the phone wouldn't turn on). I won't go into the excruciating process of being told to make an appointment using the phone that wasn't working which is the reason I need an appointment....but instead focus on the deception that almost led to the loss of all my cell phone data. To summarize, the "genius" (unfortunately I didn't get her name but I will find it to make sure I can add it) told me that she would try resetting my phone. My screen was also cracked, and she asked if I wanted to "deal with that." While my phone was updating/resetting, she noticed that I had applecare so I could get a new phone for a low price, and I expressed some interest in considering purchasing one. All of a sudden she said the phone I brought in "can't be recovered" so she has to do a factory reset which will wipe all the data, so she asked if I wanted to just go ahead and buy new phone. It's important to say that I had photos on my phone that are irreplaceable and VERY meaningful to me and weren't backed up anywhere. I told her a bit about that right when I walked in, so she was aware that losing my information was the absolute worst case scenario. I hesitantly agreed to the new phone idea but then at the last second said to just factory reset my phone once I realized that buying a new one meant I had to leave the old one behind. Something about the "genius" seemed sleazy to me and I wanted to make sure she wasn't just trying to sell me a new phone at all costs. I silently watched, believing that I had no choice but to wipe my phone, and all the memories it contained, and left the store IN TEARS. In addition to watching me struggle with the factory reset, she made sure to add that they don't assist with resetting the phone once it has been wiped so I can go restart it on my own, bye. Now, once I left and reset my phone, to my surprise I was able to retrieve ALL OF MY DATA. Years of photos of events and people and pets that I will never see again, all memories that I would have lost if I would have let her convince me that "I might as well" get a new one since my phone was being wiped. No wonder she didn't want to help me start it up - it would have been hard to explain why she lied to me as I sat there in tears over my photos so that she could make a $99 sale. I hope that when the workers here go to hell, they are eternally trapped in an apple store line waiting for a repair. read more

I am very pleased with the wonderful service that I received at the Apple Store in Tysons Corner! The store was busy, and in the past I haven't always felt like the service was particularly good... but it appears that Apple has restructured their customer service approach. Somehow they managed to make their customer service both (a) more streamlined and (b) focused on the individual needs of a specific customer, while dealing with a large number of people who are seeking their service! (These things seem to be 'at odds with each other', but Apple found a way to make it work!) I didn't need a Genius Bar appointment! I did need just a little patience. After I told one of the store representatives why I was visiting the store (problem with my iPad) and gave her my name, I was taken to the back of the store and was "kindly" told to take a seat. The store rep made a note of some type on her electronic device and I was told that someone will come find me at this location (this chair) in a few minutes. It wasn't long before an Apple store rep came to my seat and asked if I was [my name]. This must have been a Genius Bar person, because her level of expertise in dealing with my problem was very high. She was also great in dealing with people (me)! I was relieved that she didn't need to pass me off to another person. She could do everything that needed to be done herself. As it turned out, my iPad problem was terminal and it was recognized as a problem with the hardware (which I did not cause ... a manufacturing defect... though I never hear that phrase mentioned). I was offered an identical model replacement of my iPad for $100. That was a no brainer! Earlier I said it was my iPad - truth be told it was my wife's iPad. She has always been very careful with it. It was in great condition (except for this nuisance problem). I had to make a second trip back to the Apple store because they did not have any iPad mini-4 (identical to our older mini-4) in the store. They had to order one. Several days later, I was notified that the new iPad mini-4 had arrived at the Apple store in Tysons Corner. The second visit was just as impressive as the first visit! The store used the same great way to match me up with an Apple genius. The whole experience was comfortable and streamlined. My wife came with me for the second visit. Neither one of us are "experts" with Apple iPads, so we needed some assistance and assurance that all of her photos and documents on her original iPad would indeed be fully copied to the new iPad. The Apple genius who helped us was very patient and helpful and gave us the time we needed to feel comfortable with the restoration. The secret to that was to get us started and then check in with us periodically to see how it is going and whether we needed anything else. It was a wonderful experience! Then I was transferred to someone else so I can pay for the phone ... then they assigned someone else to help me set it up... but the person who's been assigned to me has already five other customers. I mentioned on a Google review that Apple and its employees act too big for their britches. First of all the whole appointment system is stupid because they don't really care about it. I needed a Mac and wanted to trade mine in which is the only reason I made the appointment. Of course Apple considers a rubber stud underneath the laptop to be worth $160 so they wouldn't offer me full trade in value of $240 and only offered $80. That tells me they're crooks because they just force people to buy stuff at full price indirectly and politely. The lady who helped us initially seemed like she wanted to help but that faded away quickly because she was more hell bent on taking "other customers" when there was only one appointment left (I know because I saw the last appointment time before booking mine) then disappeared to the back office while we were deliberating on what to buy. She suddenly pops out a minute later and we realize she just wanted to get out of work and go home and tells another young female staffer to help us. Anyway we told this young lady we'd decided what to buy and she says "oh just go online and buy it" and shows us and walks off to which we were aghast. If all I had to do was buy online why would I come to the store to ask questions only to have you walk off? The only reason I buy Apple is because of my documents all being synced and accessible when I am on the road. Otherwise I would NEVER buy Apple save for the iPhone which I prefer over Android. This company has forgotten that it was once on its knees in the industry before Steve Jobs came and bailed their lack of mental acuity out and after he died it became a fad and money making gimmick. The most racist, prejudicial Apple Store in the area. Had an appointment with Apple "Genius" to repair my iPhone this week. The worst employees are the "security" guys standing around wearing all black. If you're black, they will stare at and follow you around while you're waiting to go into the store. They are extremely territorial, and they don't like other black people visiting the store. Once I was in the store, I decided to check out the new AirPods Max. IMMEDIATELY, a white employee ran over from out of no where and started to interrupt me. He kept questioning me. It was clear that ALL HEADS were turned to me the second I decided to lift the headsets up and look at them. I'm a black male. I've attached some pictures of the problematic security guys. The worst was the big black security guy. Zoom in on the first pic, and you can see him staring at me from across the balcony. Look at his eyes. I LOVE the apple store. If you need technical help, don't even look in the window without an appointment. I was told to arrive five minutes before my appointment and to check in. I arrived early for my "Genius Bar" appointment (there isn't an actual bar, but you may feel like a drink when you are done two hours later). Everyone was so nice. The bathrooms are spacious and clean. The only detail that could have been improved was my uncomfortable chair. I was in the store for over two hours while the "geniuses" worked their magic on my phone. Sitting on a metal chair was uncomfortable. It made me envy the plush. little bean bag chairs for kids (smart move). The technical people explained everything to me in layman's terms. My visit took so long that the first person helping me went on a break. Both employees were awesome. Most of the items in the store are overpriced. I probably would not buy a cellphone case or charger in the Apple store. Eastern Market has inexpensive covers for every Iphone size out there (most for $5). If you need help with your apple product, this is the place to come. Just make an appointment first. You may also want to bring a snack since it isn't always possible to know how long your visit will be. read more

The Apple store on a Sunday is an absolute shit show but we were in the area and had to take care of an Apple Care warranty appointment which we set up on the phone. Having been assured over the phone that it would be a walk in and swap the defected item for a replacement, we thought it would be a rather simple process. That was until we met the warden. The so called manager, Sarah Meade obviously didn't get the memo from the SVP of retail from Apple about basic customer service skills. If rolling your eyes is part of the Apple experience then Sarah would win manager of the year. Sarcasm aside, we were denied our Apple care warranty based on her own rude and subjective opinion. You need to STOP Lying to customers. You need to be sued for fraud. You need to make sure your employees are not telling LIES. Apple has been telling customers that EVERYTHING is a motherboard issue, when in reality it is not. They refuse to activate or help with any older phones, and want you to buy NEW phones. We sent in 3 test phones that were PERFECTLY fine, were activated before and had no issues. Apple then tells us that there is a HARDWARE issue from the motherboard keeping it from being Activated - which is a complete LIE and doesnt make sense. Either the Sim card cannot be read by the motherboard(which it was able to) or the phone is GOOD or BAD IMEI (not allowing it to activate). But Apple took the EASY route and just says everything is a Motherboard issue, so they can trick the customer and get them to buy a new phone! This is SO Unethical! STOP SPREADING LIES !! read more

Apple has the worst customer service. They totally are taking advantage of Covid. It takes weeks to get a service appointment. While they have had 7 months to get things together they still have not. We bought my daughter a Apple computer that was delivered broken by UPS. They told us that it will cost 500 dollars for a new screen and that it was not delivered broken. Cyndy's Bottom Line: A money making cult. My iphone battery went out. I decided to go to the Not so Genius Bar to have them diagnose the problem. There is an intake line at the entrance then you are shuttled to the next Apple attendant only to be given an appointment hours later. Upon returning for your appointment you are again shuttled from one Apple attendant to the next then to a designated table to yet again wait for the next Apple attendant to make an appearance. Also of note, especially for this location MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, seriously otherwise its just not worth stopping in if you're having mac and/or phone issues. Yet another disappointing experience at the 'Genius Bar'. Long story short - bought an iPhone X in March from the Verizon store. Brand new, $1000 phone. But, as has become the norm with Apple devices, it developed 'Ghost-touch syndrome' (the screen jumped all over, pushing buttons without being touched). So, broken phone in 5 months. However, since this is a known issue (google it, if you're bored), and the rep on Apple chat support told me they'd give me a NEW replacement phone, I was ready to stroll in and trade the defective item for a new one. Which is exactly what happened! Nah, I'm kidding, of course it didn't! Instead, the Genuises immediately recognized the issue, because their phones have become made-to-fail items, and said a screen replacement was my only option. So: new, $1000 phone breaks in 5 months, and all you can do is leave me with a repaired phone, hoping that if (when) it breaks again, it's still within the remaining 7 month warranty period. That's some great customer service, there...especially after I showed them my iPhone 6, which developed motherboard issues in 13 months and stopped working completely. So, 2 defective iPhones in 3 years, and despite my polite, calm, and rational requests for a new phone, it was a no-go. To cap it off, the 'manager' Lori (who was juuust as condescending as she could be without being blatantly rude) would only give me her first name, and when I asked for the Regional manager, they told me his name is Joe Martin, but miraculously did not have any contact info for him. I was told to call Apple Support to reach good 'ol Mr Martin, and after an hour on the phone, the rep could neither reach anyone at the store, or locate any way for me to do, well, anything. Pretty pathetic, all around. Update: adding a star only because upon calling the store 2 hours later, a manager named Jay provided excellent customer service, and offered to simply give me a new phone. Most of us only ever visit the Apple Store when we have problems with our iDevices. Which means most of us are emotional before we walk in the door. We're filled with fear (what if they can't fix it? What if it costs $1.3 billion to fix my phone?), we're filled with hope (Surely, these guys can fix my iPad!), we're filled with anger (I can't believe my wife cracked her screen again!). These emotions can make or break an honest review. So, I waited a few days to write this. I visited after talking to Apple Support about a battery issue with my phone. Knew I needed a battery repair before I walked in the door. The lady who checked me in was a bit rude - a 20 something speaking to me as if I was her technologically challenged parent (I'm 32 and have a background in programming). Once I made it past the check in gauntlet, the genius bar guys were great. Very helpful, kind, and gave me a reasonable expectation on repair and wait time. It was an hour and a half wait on my battery, so I walked the mall and grabbed some coffee while I waited. I'd go back. Hopefully there is never a need to, but I'd go again. read more

I don't know how they make money. Although I'm a shareholder, I can say I'm thoroughly disappointed by the retail apple stores. First, the "hippie" system of economic exchange is well, very disorganized. Where the heck do I pay? Oh you mean this "genius" has a handheld device. Opps, his isn't working right now? Oh, he doesn't have a handheld device? The customer ends up running around trying to figure out how to make a purchase. That's bad business. Don't get me wrong, I love apple products. I bought a laptop here once (mistake, always order online). I bought it with extra RAM and they were supposed to put it in the computer. So after fight through traffic to get into the bustling mall, they told me to wait 1 hour. So I came back an hour later, paid, only to come home (in more traffic) finding that they never installed the RAM. So I have to drive back again the same night to show them unopened boxes of RAM and laptop, only to get an "opps." (BTW, I didn't know this at the time, but you can do it yourself pretty quickly) So on another occasion, I needed to talk to a "genius." I had an appointment, and "checked in," yet no one seemed to care that I was waiting. Everyone kept asking "are you being helped"? I would say I have an appointment, and then they knew how late they presumably run with their appointments and then proceed to let me wait more. I waited for at least 20 minutes AFTER my appointment to get any help. So on my third try at bat here; I decided to get the imac with the student rebate for the ipod touch. So I asked the "genius" if it was still possible to get the old ipod touch after the new ipod release, and it took him 15 minutes to prance around, nonchalantly, unhurriedly from one "genius" to the next, only to find his boss. He told me "nope impossible to get a customized mac now with a free ipod touch." So I went home, called the toll free apple number, only to find out that yes, it's still possible. So after this long rant, here's the summary: Physical apple stores are pure hype. They smell like geek - poor ventilation makes all of their stores smell like mouldy gym socks. You can't buy customized computers... in a computer store (you have to go online). The "geniuses" really don't have a clue. In fact, they can't give you totally erroneous information. The look legit, but don't trust em. They know just about or less than you do. read more

I guess I have higher hopes for Apple and the level of knowledge and training but I am increasingly certain that is unrealistic. I have mixed experiences here and in the end I remind myself that folks are just trying to do their jobs. I got my battery replaced. The problem post battery replacement was WiFi related, specifically, after I got the battery replaced my phone had serious problems staying on the WiFi which resulted in me getting increased charges on my phone. My service to look at the issues (can't hold WiFi, pictures not taking, and apps closing mid-use) post battery work was difficult to schedule and got pushed out (this was its own saga putting me into a not happy place). When I finally did get service the result was assuring me it was not linked to the battery replacement -- I know it is, it literally began the day my battery was replaced, I just want it fixed. Well the end result was similar to when you call the office IT help desk and they tell you to turn it off and then back on; they reset my phone (loosing all my apps and my recent contacts which I discovered later that week while stock in traffic without my office contacts). Pictures are taking on the first try but I still cannot hold WiFi... Not sure if this will end up affecting my Apple phone love long term but I must admit that at this moment I am considering other options for our next phone replacements. read more

I visited the store to exchange my cracked iPhone 11 Pro with a new iPhone 11 Pro using my Apple Care warranty. The young lady at the Genius Bar who helped restore my phone from iCloud forgot one of the steps that I ask her to perform. She did not pair my Apple Watch with my new phone. 3 1/2 hours later with four different people and a manager that never stopped by syncing my watch was a total failure. Store personnel at the Genius Bar had excuse after excuse after excuse. I called the Apple support desk they had placed me with some Apple Watch specialist and still my problem is not resolved as of today. There was another lady going through the same procedure as me and hers watch was not paired as well. The service-level at the store is the poorest of any Apple store. I have visited a number of Apple stores even the headquarters in Cupertino's visitor center this store is good to replace a product but the service level deserves a negative 5 stars read more

I bought an iPhone 8 only to have it break it did not work with my sim card (which works fine in other phones) and the battery was broken. I was okay with this seeing as lot's of phone are duds, but after sending it back (they were supposed to give me a new fully charged one) I got the same phone with the same problems next time I will buy a phone from best buy and it will be samsung. 2 years ago I bought an LG from best buy, it was nearly indestructible whereas I did nothing to the phone and it broke I am going to buy a samsung from Best Buy.. read more

The store is usually very busy; the service is good but sometimes seems rushed. I generally prefer the Fair Oaks store when actually purchasing their products. Great experience & service! Peter was my technician. When I arrive at 10:50am for my 11:15am appointment I was greeted and signed in. I was called at 11:00am. Peter introduces himself and I told him what issues I was having with my iPhone 10. He was able to fix my phone, tell me what was wrong, showed me how to fix it as well as help me with an unrelated technical issue regarding billing. I am very pleased and will return if I have anymore issues. Side note: My last experience was poor and the technician treated me poorly after he realized I already paid for and only needed to exchange and pick up my iPhone 10. So this was a fresh experience. Simple, friendly, courteous service from making appointment couple days ago -- for two iPhone (6s/6s Plus) battery replacements -- to prompt on-time check in for appointment, to get initial phone evals, to phone return on time. Under Apples Service and Repair program - Once you take it to an Apple store, you have relinquished the option to have Apple ship a replacement. The program gives consumers the choice to "send it in" or "bring it in". I opted to "bring it in" and that started my frustrating journey with Apple's geniuses: · Scheduled a Genius Bar appointment and met my genius at the Apple store in Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia · The genius recommended replacement for $449 and I agreed · The genius had me erase my broken iPad · The replacement iPad would not start · The Genius has me wait for 1 hour because he thought the replacement iPad had a drained battery · Genius determines that the replacement iPad is in-fact inoperable · And it was the last of that iPad model in the store · I asked to have a working replacement shipped · Genius tells me "Once you enter the store, shipping is not an option, you must go to another Apple store · Genius searches for another 45 minutes for another store · I consult a store manager to request that a replacement be shipped · Manager reiterates Apples policy that "once you enter the store, you relinquish your "send it in" option · So...Next I drive many miles to a store that may have a replacement Again - My request was to have Apple ship the product that the store was out of. read more
