This store is always big, bright, clean and BUSY! The workers are so helpful and there are so many products to look at! They always have what I'm looking for in terms of product or information. About a month ago, my mac's battery decided to die so I came in to get a new battery. The tech who helped me was very patient and kind. They deal with difficult customers all day but they're still cheerful and helpful! Right after, my hard drive decided to blow up on me and since I am a broke student, I didn't want to replace the hard drive for $300 through Apple. I became handy and went searching for a hard drive to install myself! I was nervous because I never opened or modified a laptop before but it was also kind of exciting. Today, I came to see the Genius Bar again to help me install my new hard drive. Kaleo helped me and he was so great!!! He gave me excellent customer service even though I was installing a third party's hard drive. He was quick and funny! He even installed software on my computer afterwards for me. Now, I have a working laptop again! Yippie! I think the genius bar deserves to have a tip jar! I mean I've seen them deal with non-English speakers aka my mom and anyone deserves to be tipped after that!! ;) read more

I am an Apple person. It's just who I am. The love affair with Apple started back in 8th grade when I had an Apple IIc computer. It still continues to this day. As most people who own Apple products, you buy the Apple Care (extended warranty). This is always a safety net for you & your beloved product. I was still within my warranty for my iPhone 6plus when I came to visit the Genius Bar. My phone needed the iSight camera changed out (there was a recall). I made an appointment and walked right in. My Genius was Erika (hope that's right). She was very friendly and helpful. Asked me all the questions, checked my phone, and told me that it would take 45 minutes to change out the camera. Okie dokie! We walked around the mall and came back when I was supposed to. Checked in with one of the apple staff, who asked for my ID. Yay! Thanks for making sure I was who I said I was. I would've been really angry if someone had walked away with my phone! I waited for someone to give me my phone, but Erika came up. She said the technician working on my phone noticed that my home button was having issues. Oh my gosh! I totally forgot about that! I had just come back 12 hours previously from 3 different flights from PA to Hawaii with a freshly sprained ankle, so my mind was NOT working. I can't believe they caught it. So because of the faulty home button, they decided to just give a new iPhone 6plus. Apple has always had great customer service. This is just another instance where they have proved it. So its funny I am currently in the Apple store, writing a review on one of they're laptops while waiting for my wife's iPhone 5s, (battery was funky and would die on an instant) so we decided to get that fix by coming all the way to town! Located in Ala Moana, the Apple store is extremely spacious with probably 20 plus workers all over the place in blue shirts (haha its pretty corny but whatever I guess the color blue "pops" in a wide store with hundreds of people coming in and out having problems with either they're Mac laptops/computers to iPads, iPods, iPhones etc. or wanting to purchase an Apple product, or try out some the products - which btw the Mac Pro Laptop I am on is AWESOME, soooo need to invest in one! eek!) The workers here are pretty friendly and of course they know they're stuff when it comes to Mac products! If you have technical problems, you must make an appointment! because they run on a schedule base due to the fact if you don't it could take all day to get your phone looked at plus wait for your item to get fixed - in this case it was the iPhone 5s) Arrived here at 1030am couldn't get scheduled in until 1140am then they looked at my wife's iPhone 5s and explained that the battery needed to be replaced (didn't know it was possible) so they said it would be ready around 1pm *sighs* came back around 115pm and our tech guy scared us b/c he came back 3 times to make sure what last name we placed it under (really?) overall he found it & explained to us that my wife would receive a brand new phone due to the battery was incapable of switching, so that was good news! Overall an okay experience, spent the day at Ala Moana & in town which wasn't so bad! HORRIBLE customer service! Walked in at 10:30 with registered and still active Apple Care on Macbook Air and a broken AC adapter wire. The earlier available appointment at the "Genius Bar" was at 11:15. Since we were already there, we decided to wait the 45 minutes in Shirokiya. Got there at 11:02, and realized that we were early, so went across the way (neither of us had a clock) to Bath and Body Works. Got back to the Apple Store at 11:18 (according to the time on one of their iPhones). Was told that because we were "SIX minutes late," for out 11:5 appointment, our appointment was canceled and that they'd be with us in "a few minutes." There were no seats available, so we continued to stand around as we had in Shirokiya , until 11:30. Finally, we approached one of the NUMEROUS store employees who were just standing around with their iPads not doing anything, and were told that there's nothing she could do, that she told the Genius Bar we were waiting, and that our appointment had been "bumped to noon!" This was the first that anyone had informed us of that, instead of "just a few minutes." Also, I complained that we were only 3 minutes late. She told me that all their clocks are the same and their system must have said 6 minutes past 11:15. I told her that I got my 11:18 time off of one of their iPhones at the front of the store. Then, she told me that the Genius Bar must have had a different time on their system then...either way, we were 6 minutes late, which is when they cancel the appointments. We canceled the appointment, came home, and made another one with the Apple Store in Kahala this afternoon - hoping for better customer service. Unfortunately, that was more than 1-1/2 hours of my life (transport time included) that I'll never get back. I understand that Apple is "the new thing" that everyone wants, and thus there is a high demand. But, you know what, one of the main reasons that people USED to buy Apple products was for the good, reliable customer service, together with the high quality of their product. Looks like with the expansion of the company, that has sadly changed. (And there were a LOT of people there today with faulty products...what's up with that??...hence the demand for...mediocre/poor customer service.) Now I'm definitely re-thinking my decision to buy the next generation iPhone... read more

I love this place. I'm here so much that it feels like I own all the Apple Products in this store. I use the wi-fi to download my Game of Throne Episodes onto my Nexus 7, go figure that one. I then use the i-pads, and iPhones to help create fake friends for this game I play on my phone, which I spend way too much time playing. Then I use the MacBook Air to write reviews on Yelp like this one. The only thing missing is a printer in which I could print out my Advance Screening Passes. Even when the store is crowded, which is a lot of the time, I enjoy myself. Now if I weren't always at Ala Moana, I might actually have to go and buy an Apple Product. I usually end up here because of the horrible fights my iPhone and MacBook Pro have together, so I am usually never stoked to be here and would much rather be some where else where both my computer and phone were behaving together and separately. Luckily the people at the Genius Bar can make life peaceful once again with their Apple Care voodoo magic. I used to have a friend that worked here, and he always helped me and I adore him, but he recently left. I ended up having to go here on Monday because my battery chord got all torn up and then had to go again on Wednesday because the next day one of the outlet things remained in the outlet at my biology lecture, ugh total bummer. The first time I went this nice chick helped me and she was just great, and also helped me backup my iPhone since I am always having troubles with it, since it took forever, and I needed to get back to class, I told her I would finish and come back some other time, I just wasn't it expecting to be two days later. The next time this guy helped me. He was so nice and helpful, especially since I had mentioned to him off hand that my computer was having trouble retaining its battery life, he did a battery check and sure enough my battery was shot! So he was able to replace it and my outlet thing, both of which I got comped for! Hooray for the Geniuses at the Genius Bar! read more

Me being the non-apple tech savvy that I am, was in desperate need of help with my Iphone 4. My bff and I headed down to the apple store (recently moved down further from Macy's) a little after 4:30. Step in after a minute were greeted by a very nonchalant and jubilant fellow. He quickly helped us sign up for an appointment. His positive attitude made me feel a little less worried about my psycho iphone4 problems. Unfortunately, things began to go downhill after that. We were directed to the large wooden table for a apple specialist. He smiled and asked me the problems accordingly. However, it seemed that he was not happy to be assisting us half the time we were there. Once my phone was replaced, I asked about screen protectors. He basically grabbed the set of two in one case and hands us over to a female coworker. When the female employee could not pull up the easy pay app, she speaks to my bff with a very rude tone and a case of stink eye to "GO TO THE FRONT." We get there and she then continues this horrible attitude with me. I don't know what had her panties in a knot, but I still smiled and my bff thanked her. Her response? A quick fake smile. I intended to inquire about some help placing the protector on. Honestly, I suck at it and I'm always left with gigantic air bubbles. I walk out of the store and then decided why not try a different worker? We managed to find a more polite and bubbly employee who then directed us to protector sheet pro. I left the apple store with a replaced Iphone 4 covered, but a horrible customer service experience. Whatever you do..avoid the Filipino female with short hair. Good luck to you! read more

Okay so when I'm not eating I'm at my favorite Apple Store checking out the latest programs accessories or just getting schooled. My gf loves it as well but tends to walk out at which at that point I realize it's really time to just go and not spend money. Yes it's expensive. And yes there's almost always a crowd. The Genius desk is very helpful and they get things done as quickly as possible. You can take a class on anything in the store, so make your appointment by phone or internet and have some fun!! Did I mention they have free internet. I usually just walk by and download a new song on my iPhone. My tool of choice and what I'm using here is my 15in MacBook Pro, it's just smoking. My gf has the same one but I can't say that she copied because she'll be upset and claw me, :-) jk. And yes we both have the iPhones and use them fully. Yes they are the best. It's not like even working on them at all because everything on it is just so much fun. Frickin' Applications are awesome. Geez, we're like up to 3000 texts a month!! gotta go that's her texting me. read more

I came in with a fully intact iPhoneX that was experiencing a software bug, stuck in a boot loop. The phone is one year old with not a scratch on it. The genius bar agreed the malfunction was no fault of my own. I got the phone from this same store a year earlier as a replacement to my old phone. They gave me a "tough luck" response and said I could pay $550 to replace a THREE YEAR OLD MODEL. They didn't even try to figure out what was wrong with the phone. They just shrugged and said "probably hardware related but we aren't sure". They literally did nothing with it, did not even inspect it. I suggested it was probably the battery (it happened when the phone ran out of battery) and they said "we don't THINK so", keyword being THINK. I asked for a battery replacement (willing to pay the fee) and they straight up said no. They didn't even try to replace it or determine what was causing the problem. They just said "tough luck". Keep in mind I had to wait 3 weeks to get this appointment due to Covid, only to get a "tough luck" response. The kicker is they suggest I wait a few days to buy the new $1K+ iPhone 12 coming out. All they care about was me spending money. Customer service is dismal, they had no interest in helping me fix my problem AT ALL. They just wanted that coin. Disappointed to say the least. During COVID of all times you think they'd make an effort to fix a defective phone. read more

Apple stores are generally crowded and loud. Since this one is in a temporary space, it seems to be extra crowded and super loud! Thankfully, this has not put a damper on the excellent customer service which I've grown accustomed to receiving from Apple. I came here without a Genius appointment to get my headphones replaced under my Apple Care. They quickly scheduled me a Genius appointment and I was able to be out the door in less than 10 minutes with new headphones. read more

Hmmm. Busy, crowded, filled with people just window shopping and/or checking their Facebook. It's a really simple process, look around if you're actually interested in buying a product then get a retail associate for assistance. Don't just call them and chew the fat with them because it makes it ridiculous for other people who actually need help purchasing something. It's nearly impossible to actually get someone to notice you because it's as loud as a ballpark in there. I love Apple products, made the switch to a Mac and iPhone and I don't regret it one bit. But it's the attempts at getting customer support at this location that kind of irritates me. Ended up just going to the Kahala location because it was easier for me to get what I wanted so I could get out. I've had a Mac before and it ultimately converted me to a diehard PC user. However, I don't know what I'd do without my iPod. Love it, love it. It has saved me from countless hours of boredom, especially waiting at airports. I really enjoy coming to the Apple store to browse their latest gadgets. I was almost tempted to buy the iPhone, but was dissuaded by some of the negative reviews of the first model and their price. Dear Sir or Madam I am writing to warn others -- iOS7 ruined my iPhone4. I had been notified that the new ios7 was available and so I expected my phone to work just as well as it had been. However the upgrade asked me to plug the phone into iTunes--I do not use iTunes regularly... My computer was unable to recognize the iphone. After trying various things- updating iTunes, checking on the driver, trying it on another computer... I brought it in to the Apple store. Service was great--this review is not about the staff. They could not solve the issue. I was told that there was no way to undo the process. I would have to purchase a new phone. There is something VERY WRONG with that. Not acceptable. Stopped in to return something and I was greeted right away. The lady took my name and got someone right away to assist me. It took no more than 2 minutes for someone to come calling my name asking to help me. Everything was quick and easy. No problems. Come to this Apple store if you only want to buy something and don't care about how nice the employees are. Don't get me wrong, this is probably one of the busier locations between the three(Waikiki & Kahala Mall are the others), but you shouldn't feel like nobody cares... Especially being that you're paying top dollar for what is basically the "Mercedes/Jaguar/Rolls Royce" of computers & electronic devices. With that said, there are some nice employees that work here but don't expect that too much. There's just too many people that come here to shop and get help that it's difficult for them to give a personal touch to every customer that's visiting. Still, the only reason I come here is because it's the most convenient location to me. Otherwise, I'd definitely go to Kahala Mall to buy an Apple device or get service. read more

Took a look at iPad cases, wasn't impressed by any of them and was going to leave when the same guy who initially greeted me asked if he could help again. I let him know I didn't see a case that I liked and he handed over his iPad with one of the cases I had passed over without hesitation so I could try it. He showed me how to prop it up, let me walk a bit with it under my arm and I was impressed. I bought it from him on the spot, transaction took maybe 2 minutes and I was out of the store with my new case. This is what shopping should be. read more

My fiancé and I brought my MacBook Pro 2014 in because the battery began to swell so badly the past couple of months that keys on my keyboard could no longer work properly and the track pad was useless, it won't even click anymore. It gets EXTREMELY HOT when charging, but wont hold a charge for even an hour without being on the charger. I work from my laptop, so this is obviously a huge safety concern for me, especially knowing that batteries are known to explode when used in this condition. After reading about a recall on these batteries and how hundreds of people, maybe more, had theirs switched out with new non-defective batteries, I assumed this MUST fall under that recall, but after looking up the serial number, mine wasn't eligible for the recall fix. I thought surely if the techs at Apple saw my device they could clearly see it was a defective battery, which the tech stated it was. However since it was "one of the unlucky batteries that made it into the next batch of computers" they would need to charge a $199 replacement fee. Even though people who bought their computers just months within mine and had this problem got their fixed without any fees. I don't know what sets apart my swollen battery from the others, but considering how unsafe, and extreme the condition, we absolutely feel that Apple should be responsible for the fees involved. As the tech stated "It is necessary that you leave it to get fixed right away in with the condition it's in". So for my own safety we left it to get fixed and will be returning to pick it up for $199. Apple still refuses to waive the $199, but I am sure this will cost them much more in the long run as this is the last Apple device I will use. read more

I have been to Apple Ala Moana twice to fix my aging Macbook Pro. I have also bought a lightening to USB cable for my iPhone at this Apple location. Even if I don't have a repair issue, I often stop by whenever I am at Ala Moana to charge my iPhone when it is low on battery. This store is always packed. It may appear chaotic, but the staff at this store do a good job at checking in customers who have made a Genius Bar reservation, and ringing up customers who need to purchase products. The technicians have been invaluable to me when I had hardware issues this year. They were able to restart my computer both times I came in at no charge. I bought my Macbook Pro over four years ago and my iPhone over two years ago. In my experience, these are long lasting products. I have never had to repair my iPhone and my Macbook Pro only started to have a few problems this year. Both still work and I hope to continue using them for at least several more years. The wide availability of Apple stores across the country, along with the helpful technicians at the Genius Bar, make buying Apple products worth the expense. read more

I asked a female staff standing by the iPhone's desk, she explained little bit and suddenly she left me with a reason that she had to help another customer. What in the world she was thinking? she said she would get back to me after helping that customer. Few minutes later she never came back to me. Is she on drug or something? Is it just me, or do I remember correctly when I say I swear there used to be more stuff here? It seems to me that Apple stores in general have become a little bare when it comes to Apple product accessories. But hey, I do like that the store renovated and got a little bigger. One thing I would have changed though is the attentiveness of the staff. Maybe I don't seem like the kind of guy who needs help when it comes to product (I'll admit I am savvy enough to do my own research), but when a guy has a product in one hand and wallet in the other asking you for help, you don't abandon him on the floor. The girl I had asked this one time probably got preoccupied and forgot about me so THANK GOODNESS I can purchase products on my Apple store iPhone app, otherwise I wouldn't be able to buy anything out of the store sometimes. But call me old fashioned; I tend to miss human contact when it comes to transactions outside of my home. If not that, then what's the point of buying anything in stores nowadays when literally everything is available online, and probably cheaper? Plus, it's less awkward to walk out of the store with a purchase when someone at the store actually witnessed the purchase happen. Anyway, at least I know I can count on the staff when I do have more technical questions. . . When they're available. It's like a thousand little busybody elves that can't be bothered in there, so I do try to go when it's not so busy. And regardless, I am an Apple fan for life. read more

The service here is amazing! The geniuses are just that. That cater to the customer and have even taken care of me when my items were out of warranty. The service is always great and that's what keeps me coming back to Apple. Unlike other companies they really do take care of you and are knowledgeable about their products. It's not about making a sale or anything else; it's about customer happiness. I love it. Yes, there are tourists; we live in Hawaii. Confession: I've been a PC person most of my life. But even I couldn't resist the Borg-like influence that eventually assimilated me into the mobile electronic world of Apple. I got my iPod touch there, and later my iPhone 4, and quite a few accessories to go with it. When the iPhone 5 came out, I resisted its siren call for as long as I could. I figured, why upgrade when my iP4 worked fine. And so it went...until the evening of the tsunami warning and I found I could not hear through the earpiece. I initially chalked it up to network congestion, but when the problem continued afterward, I knew something was wrong and that it was time to upgrade. So, I went to the Apple Store intent on getting one, and was let down gently by one of the salespeople who said that they didn't have AT&T ones in stock. But he did tell me how to order one online and have it picked up...which, a week or so later, I did. I did have to wait a little while to pick it up when I came down, but I credit Jackie and Ryan for helping me get the new phone up and running and start the process of getting my apps and data migrated over. Not having been raised an Apple person, this was a great comfort for me. I've had nothing but good experiences so far with the staff over at the Apple Store...even though, truth be told, I still feel like I'm in an alien world. Maybe my next laptop will be a Mac. If you like chaos and madhouses, this is the place for you. I've experienced Apple Store service and sales in other cities and this is simply the worst. At other stores, they treat you like a customer and solve your problem expeditiously. At the Ala Moana store it's like a chapter out of Kafka--long waits, unintelligible process, being passed on from Apple employee to Apple employee, and then the 3rd degree. I'm a longtime Apple user and I enjoy their products, but this store SUCKS! Two stars only because I like Apple too much to give just one. read more

My lock button on my Iphone had been stuck for a few days. I finally made it to Ala Moana after work one day to hopefully find a solution to fixing it. I'm SO happy that I have Applecare! If not, my ass would have been paying for another Iphone! I walked in and was immediately greeted by a guy with an Ipad in hand working. I told him I needed my iphone fixed and he was able to set me up with an appointment within 30 minutes. Usually people make appts for the genius bar, so i'm happy that I was lucky enough to get in quickly. I came back 30ish minutes later and a guy named Ray helped me out. Bless this poor guy...he helped me for almost 2 hours trying to get my new iphone activated (damn you verizon!!!!). We tried a million different ways, and he even called verizon to help me out. He was very patient and was fun to talk to while waiting on restoring, calling verizon, restoring again, calling verizon again, etc. etc. etc., as this went on for almost 2 hours!! He was such a big help! Kudos to Ray! :) Overall, I was very pleased with the service. The genius bar people seem to really know what they're doing and make you feel comfortable, as I know many people, including myself, aren't the most savvy tech people. Got my first MacBook Pro from this store last week Saturday. Let me just say this...I'M LOVIN' IT! I have always wanted a MacBook Pro but what better time to buy than summer! I needed a replacement and did a lot of checking and research. I frequently went by to this branch in Ala Moana asking them either tech related questions or programming issues. As an engineer I need my high demand programs to run at a fast speed. Getting help was easy, and the service is great. I spoke with 5 Apple workers regarding my situation and all were willing to help! Finally it was buying time and I got it all done. Paperwork was fast and upgrading my MacBook was efficient! The only reason why I am giving this a 4/5 is because of the price. MacBooks are way overpriced no matter which model you go for. You are paying for the name and simplicity of the product. They do live up to their standards but hey, if you are going to aim for college students, at least give them more than a 100 dollar break! -- We stay broke! In addition the size of crowd has cut down tremendously due to the Microsoft store next door. Anyways, accessories are always overpriced there and I always buy on eBay. For assistance I feel comfortable asking any representative and was pleased to purchase my first MacBook here! read more

I had a iPhone 4s that was preowned for a year now and right when I got the phone, I noticed a problem with my iMessage. I noticed that I couldn't delete messages off my phone and if I did, my phone would freeze and was force to restart my phone. When my phone started up again, all the message I deleted previously was still there. I did a factory reset on my phone and the problem still existed. I ignored the problem until recently that my phone would just freeze every time I opened up iMessage. Also, I would receive all messages on my iPad and it wouldn't sync with my phone. I was quite sad about it and talked to Sprint if they could do anything about it but they said to go straight to Apple. I went to Apple when I had the chance and explained my situation to them. Unfortunately, I couldn't qualify for a replacement for the iPhone 4s but I could trade in my phone and upgrade. The person who helped me that day was name Kyle and he was very friendly and even though we encountered many problems that day, he made everything possible for me. My iPhone 4s was worth $125 and also qualified for a $50 gift card for being a student! The workers there are very nice and will do anything for you. I spent about $185 for a 32gb iPhone 5s.
