I worked with John White over ten years. During that time, I have asked John to test my computer system and test my applications many times. I've had some emergencies twice. Since these times, I have found him to be reliable, trustworthy and easy to talk to. He has been upfront as to things to whether he is the expert or he's not. He is reasonable to his prices, in fact, I find he is MORE reasonable than others that are his field. I found him by going through some terrible people that had limited knowledge. I learned of John by chance and was I glad! read more

We all have computers, and when they break, we all ask: "Do you know anyone who fixes computers?" "Yeah I got a guy." I'm happy u i say I found my guy at SOHO. John is a friendly knowledgeable expert on Mac and PC repairs. We had both a desktop and laptop go down within the space if a week. John was quick to give a quality diagnosis and recommend the right repairs. He provides helpful advice, like upgrades to hard disk drives, which my PC really needed. His prices are very competitive and he provides great value in a short amount of time. read more

My experience with SOHO was extremely pleasant. Great communication throughout, and service that made me feel like I was his only priority. I thought my iMac was done for, but John brought it back to life and for far less money than I anticipated. I can't see myself considering anywhere else for computer repair from now on, no matter what it may be. Please consider SOHO! Mahalo John!!! read more

Thank you Yelp and Yelp Elite Terry K. Terry K's stellar review of SOHO Computer Repair and personal recommendation sealed the deal. Recently, I was having a problem with my IMac desktop storage. I had way too many pictures to store and my computer wasn't having it. I purchased more storage, but I still encountered trouble (I had no clue how to transfer so many pictures) to the backup storage. I kept receiving messages that kept me from transferring/downloading the photos. I called John W. at SOHO and set up an appointment. We initially talked over the phone and then we met in person to discuss the issues at hand. Fast forward a couple of days and he solved the problem! I can't really explain in computer lingo what he did for my computer, except that now I have a designated storage unit for my iPhone photos. The only downside is that I can't really see the pictures all at once. That's for another day. John worked on my computer quickly and he is very approachable and will listen to your questions and concerns. His pricing is reasonable and customers kept coming in while we were at his shop. See John at SOHO Computer Repair for your computer repair! read more

John is awesome. Had a dead laptop from the storm and texted him to see if he could help. He responded instantly. His location is convenient and there's parking. I walked through my issue and he concluded that it's not even worth him diagnosing (my troubleshooting data already gave him enough info to give me a recommendation). So instead he helped me take out my drive and provided detailed instructions to decrypt and recover my data. Responsive, knowledgeable, honest. He won my business forever. read more

I have been doing business with John for many years. He has upgraded my Windows OS, put in a new hard drive and installed the latest Microsof Office program for me. My PC is over 15 years old and still running smoothly thanks to John. His turnaround time is quite fast and his prices are reasonable . Why spend over $1100 for a new PC when you can upgrade for less? Always a pleasure to do business with him read more

My laptop (all of a sudden) was unable to identify additional monitors when I plugged in my dock at home even though it was working fine for months. After troubleshooting for several hours on my own, it appeared that the video card was an issue. Or was it...? I had no clue because I'm only good at killing laptops with my touch of death. Between Best Buy's Geek Squad and local repair shops, I prefer the local shops if the prices are reasonable and they have good reviews. SoHo Computer Repair met both criteria. After I sent a request for a quote and appointment on Yelp, I received a reply from John within the hour. When I took the laptop into the shop, John tested my laptop by plugging in one of his monitors and my laptop was able to extend/duplicate the screen again. He explained that nothing seemed to be wrong with my laptop but rather with my dock or the graphics adaptor. The visit lasted under 5 minutes. If I need help with my laptop again, I'm definitely coming back. read more

John is knowledgeable, pleasant and responsive. We were victims of a hacker who broke into a laptop and was accessing our financial accounts and stealing from them. He needed to wipe our computer but it was the only way to protect ourselves. We are grateful for his quick thinking and recommendations. Our losses were limited because of his expertise and quick thinking. read more

John was an excellent help when it came to fixing my PC. Needed a few different parts in which he helped in picking all of them. I gave him a budget to work with in which he choose quality parts within that budget. He's very knowledgeable in this field and answered my many of questions I had in a timely matter. Thanks again John for your help with my PC! -Billy read more

My computer was having issues with sudden crashes and was at wits end with attempting to repair it myself. Scheduled a drop off and by the next day, he had it taken care of, and it cost only about $120. I was prepared to spend several hundreds and a week's time. Will be using his services again. Highly recommended read more

John greeted me (first impression) with a smile. He listened to the problem was with my laptop and said he would get back to me with what was needed along with cost. Nothing like big box where, "here's a number" we'll get to you when we can, type of deal. John's personaization and step beyond is "old school" but something we all appreciate. The repair was "on time" and as expected. Communication was above par or should I say excelled. Again, friendly and to the point. Just what is needed in this day and age. I would hightly recommend SOHO Computer repair if ever needed. read more

I tried to retrieve data from an old Apple Mac SSD through SSD Enclosures ordered online, twice, and both failed, so asked John W. if he could help me. He was able to promptly validate that my SSD was corrupted (a.k.a. "toast!" which is why both Enclosures failed) and his service did not cost me anything but my time! It's the 2nd time I've visited his shop and I really appreciate his expertise, professionalism and customer service consideration, and confident you would probably value his business too! read more

Super amazing experience! The level of service and friendliness I received is one not often found these days. I needed help taking out a super stubborn coin battery from our computer tower and John was able to pop it out in a snap with some of his nifty plastic tools. He also gave me a thorough walk through, as well a few tips and tricks on a few concerns I had with other components. I bombarded him with questions and he answered them all with patience and in a manner in which I could understand. I will absolutely be returning with my computer needs. read more

This place does a great job at a reasonable price. It's a little odd to find it and I will say that you feel like you're about to be offered a blue pill or a red pill when you go in, but the owner is pretty engaged and does a really quick turnaround. The only thing that's bad is the hours a little tough to work with those? read more

Originally I came here to drop off a friend's gaming PC as it was having rebooting issues and he wasn't able to bring his PC in during the scheduled hours due to work constraints. John was able to figure out the problem and use the diagnostic fee towards the total. Service provided was beyond exceptional as he explained what he did and what could've been the root cause and even recommended future changes if it were to cause any further disruptions! Very very reasonable price as well! read more

Great service! Laptop wouldn't stay on and John fixed it in an hour. Very reasonable charge. Highly recommend.

Quick and and to the point good energy doesn't give off rip you off scam vibes thanks john for diagnostic on my laptop

John wasn't able to replace a laptop keyboard for me because it required specialized equipment. I really appreciate that he was upfront about it, and he also didn't charge me for the time he spent opening up my laptop and assessing the situation. read more

My son's computer broke down and we came to John. He was the nicest and friendliest person and helped us trouble shoot. At the end we couldn't fix it because the graphic card for the PC is no longer on the market but John will definitely be my go to person for all computer troubles going forward. read more

John is fantastic! Customer Service, knowledge, superior work ethic. The whole enchilada! I've had him work on a few of my computers and he's taken such good care of us that I would recommend him in an instant. You will not find a more ethical and solid tech gadget guru on Oahu, period! read more

My computer stopped working so I took it in to get it fixed. John was able to diagnose the problem within the hour and then gave me a fair quote that day and took the diagnosis fee off of the total fixing price. He kept me updated along the way shooting me a text whenever there was any update. I would highly recommend this place. A professional, personal, and seamless experience. read more

I'm happy to recommend this shop. The owner's pride and pleasure in his work are obvious and infectious. I took in an old laptop PC that would barely turn on. In two days as promised he had it running noticeably better than new, for a reasonable price. Another customer I spoke with was equally satisfied. read more

I chose to take my older PC to Soho because the reviews were so positive. But, reviews can be unreliable. My hard drive was defective, and I couldn't even run diagnostics. My biggest fear was losing all my data. I called John about my problem, and he said to bring it in to see if the hard drive is damaged and if the data can be recovered. Although he was very busy, he looked at it and called me the next day. He could not access the hard drive and could replace it with a new hard drive. Sadly, for data retrieval, I needed to send it away, with no guarantees, and it would be costly. So he changed my damaged hard drive, upgraded the SATA to SSD, suggested regular backups to an external drive, installed Windows 10 and a free antivirus program, answered my other questions, and charged $320 (which I felt was fair). He also genuinely offered to answer any questions in the future. All in all, it was a nice experience, even though I wasn't able to restore everything to what it was. Oh well, it is what it is. I liked John's helpfulness and professionalism. I would definitely go back. read more

Found SOHO on Yelp and was very impressed by the extremely positive reviews. Honesty was what really caught my eye and so I texted them before they were even open, and got an immediate response from John. He told me that he would be in today and to just bring my computer in. I did, and he said that he would take a look right away. Well, we dropped off the computer and in a little over an hour, John called me back to tell me what he found. He said that he had the replacement part and could be finished pretty quick. I was surprised and ecstatic that the diagnosis and repair could be done so quickly. Well, less than an hour later, John called me back to let me know that he was done and to come down to pick my computer up. I believe that he gave our computer immediate attention because we really needed it, but I definitely felt that this is just how John does business--straight forward, honesty, and no run around. I had gone to another computer repair shop before and on several occasions, had to wait a couple of weeks to even get a diagnosis, much less get my computer repaired. No run around here, just plain honesty. I will always take my computers to John from now on, and will tell everyone I can about him. He is just that good. I just wish that I had found John earlier and not wasted my time and money at the other shop. Go to John. You won't be disappointed. read more

John was beyond awesome during the whole repair process. My gaming PC needed a new graphics card, my pc was blue screening and I wanted to install a wifi card. So the last time I came to see John to have my Dell computer tuned up was 2019. It was running very very slow, even when turning it on was slow! John was able to do his thing and got it running like brand new. Mind you that this computer is abt 15yrs old. I had to bring it down again yesterday as it was running slow again. Luckily, he had the parts and upgraded the hard drive. He also added more RAM at no addl cost. Since he had the parts and no other problem exist, I was able to get my computer back the next day!!! So again, I'm giving SOHO computer Repair a 5 star! Thanks John! read more

Our family had a Mac Book that I thought was not repairable due to a catastrophic spill on the keyboard that penetrated inside. John inspected it quickly and quoted a fair price for replacement of the keyboard assembly. He warned that there was a lot of sticky liquid that had spilled, and he was somewhat apprehensive that it would not work after making the repair. However, he made the repair skillfully (and very quickly), and the computer is like new with no issues. The following are some words to describe John: friendly, knowledgeable, trustworthy. If this review does not help you decide to take your problem to John, maybe the other 250+ will. Mahalo! read more

Friendly, skilled and timely repairs. Recovered data for me. Repaired bootup challenges.

Both of my kids' computers decided to have problems at the same time. John responded quickly to my inquiry here on Yelp and I decided to bring the items to his shop for diagnostics. The problems were diagnosed quickly, John was in contact with us often and explained everything clearly. We got both computers back in less than a week (and they both required parts to be ordered). My son's laptop was making a very loud sound and i suspected a problem with the fan on the device. I took a video of the issue and sent a message to Joh who literally responded in minutes confirming it was a fan issue based on what I had sent him which was well after his normal hours of operation. I brought the device down the next day with no expectation and even asked John if it was worth repairing as we had already sourced a replacement device. He said he would take it apart to identify the issue with the fan and call me with a quote. I told him to take his time as it was no longer an urgent matter. Well, working at the speed of John, I got a call back in a couple of hours later letting me know that the fan was not only still operable but that he identified the root cause and thought he could fix the issue rather than replacing the fan which would have cost me 3 x times as much as the repair he did. After our call, I got a message from him that the device was ready to pick up! He also said if the issue escalated into something bigger, I could bring the device back and he would apply what I already paid as credit toward a more major repair/replacement if needed! Amazingly fast and efficient service. Highly recommended! read more

I have gone to this place for a very long time. When they were close to Ala Moana, I had a repair done and questions answered, great service! Later on I found out that our kids had classes together and got to know him. He is a class act and nice person, even more so, outside of his shop. I recently asked him to look at a couple of computers and my son was satisfied with everything. He was able to get some questions answered. I figured I should write one of these reviews after all the years of service. BTW, I decided to read the negative reviews (the 0.000000001% of reviews), and even through these unfortunate experiences, I would have been totally satisfied with the way he handled it, which is more than most businesses in general nowadays. read more

Look no further! John at SoHo is your guy. He's an incredibly friendly guy and repaired my MacBook at a reasonable price. My display broke, but he didn't have a replacement in the same color as my laptop (rose gold). He offered to replace it with the one he had, order the rose gold one, and let me use my computer with the temporary one until it arrived. He fixed it very quickly, both when he replaced it with the temporary display, and the one he ordered. 10/10 definitely recommend. When I arrived at his shop this last time, he even offered to bring it to me (his shop is upstairs). Mahalo for the A+ service John!!!!! read more

It was bound to happen sooner or later, yes that dreaded moment when you turn on your computer and it fails to start up normally. HELP Soho! Soho Computer Repair is located on the left side of Beretania Street across from Safeway. There is a narrow ramp leading to an open parking lot with 9 visitor marked stalls. You have to walk up a flight of stairs to the 2nd floor and down the hall to find your computers best friend John. My computer started to have slow start up problems and seemed to have some kind of software problem. John explained that there's a $75 diagnostic fee which would be applied to the repair, that was fine with me because it was still cheaper than buying a new one. He said it would be a 2-3 days and would call me. Well it took a little longer then a couple of days, but no problem John is one busy guy. I asked him how many computers come in during a normal day, his reply was multiple. Well he cleaned up my software issues and wouldn't you know it my hard drive was also going bad. John installed a new drive and transfered my data, reinstalled Windows, also did multiple test for speed and performance. Overall it came out quite a bit cheaper than buying another new computer and reinstalling all my data. Like Terry K. had stated in her review, John is really pleasant, personable and professional guy. I can see why he's loaded with work. 5 Stars for this local business! read more
