It's taken me about four months for me to write this review. For the longest time I have doubted whether or not it was even worth the effort of writing but after having a great experience at another repair shop I felt my review was warranted. I came here in march to have my PC looked at after it had been shutting down randomly, and their free diagnostic offer seemed good to me. To make a long story short, the person I met with was brash and condescending. While he was nice at the start, as he learned more about the issues I was having and the steps I took myself to try and fix things, he became increasingly more hostile and disparaging. After talking for about ten minutes, he began telling me that I should have known that my computer would have issues considering I didn't buy good parts. He said that people like me just want to play video games and will go on amazon and buy the cheapest parts and then complain that their computers break. This was after I told him that 1. I got cheaper parts just to test if they were causing the issue without dropping hundreds on parts I might not need, and 2. I am a broke student that just wants a pc to play some older games on in my spare time. I am not a competitive gamer who needs the best of the best. He even went as far as telling me to come back if I want him to "build me a real computer". Those were his actual words. Never in my life has a business made me feel so degraded. My experience here ended with him telling me that in order to take a look at the computer and just run diagnostics to identify the issue (not fix it) it would cost me $230. TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY DOLLARS when they offer "free diagnostics". As of writing this review, I have since gone to another repair shop (not going to name it here) and they charged me $65 for diagnostics with the promise that if they didn't fix it I could bring it back free of charge. When I got back from my trip to Tennessee, I couldn't remember my password. Still not sure why. Someone suggested I call Hip and see what he could do. I called and he said he could probably do it. Old Dell desktop. Took it down, of course I didn't bring the power cord. This Dell has a power supply power cord. So had to go back home and get the cord. Hip hooked it up and started it. Checked things out and found the old hard drive was failing/slow. Had him replace it, do the password, and look over to see if it needed anything else. He called a few days later. Now everything is fine. Seems to be much faster. I'm happy. Hope I don't have anymore computer problems, but if I do, I'll be calling Hip. Thank you. read more

He knows what he's doing and was very honest with us. He has experience as a photographer and understands what it is like to lose all your photos due a to corrupted SD card. The first surprise was how atypical the shop was for a computer repair shop - a nice seating area, bottled water, no open computers in sight... The second surprise was how quickly Hip performed the diagnostic, and then explained in layman's terms the issue, what my repair options were, and the estimated cost. *PLEASE BE AWARE* This place is a ripoff. They charged me $400 to just diagnose my computer, and said it was my graphics card. We took the computer to Super Geeks and they said it was the RAM. When Super Geeks changed my ram, my computer worked perfectly. A new graphics card would've been $500 and my computer costed me about $900, which means I could've just bought another new computer. People who don't know about computers should avoid this place at any cost because they overcharge and say whatever they want to get money out of their customers. read more

My laptop got virtually hacked. Technician didn't understand what the problem was or exactly how to solve it and said he'd wipe everything out and put it back. Sounded risky. He also said he'd only restore Microsoft Office to my desktop and everything else would be on me. He was also curt and lacking in service orientation. I finally took my PC to this computer shop after 8 months of trying to correct the issues myself. I don't know the first thing about computers and what I tried to fix, wasn't even the issue. It was the motherboard all along. The owner was patient and understanding and helped me to understand my PC by comparing it to a car. He educated me on the importance of a good motherboard. He compared it to the brain of the computer. After doing full diagnostics, he confirmed that the motherboard was in fact the issue. He was able to install a new and affordable motherboard. When I interacted with this gentleman, I never felt inferior or judged. He understood this is my first PC and was happy to help me get it to 100% functionality. My favorite part of his office was the cute French Bulldogs that kept me company in the lobby. They are such cute dogs and absolutely lovable. I have not experienced any issues with my computer since, but I want to share that if I did have issues that traced back to the motherboard that was installed, he would've replaced it, free of charge. (I felt at ease knowing that was an option that wouldn't dig even more into my wallet. read more

I recently brought dead my Macbook Pro laptop in to H Power Computing to hopefully get the data off. This computer had 4 years of business files, photos, spreadsheets, etc. that I stupidly hadn't properly backed up. I was devastated about the loss of important data, and up to that point, every other computer professional I talked to about getting my data off gave me very little hope, and discouraged me to even try and potentially waste a lot of money. Not only was HPC miraculously able to salvage the data, but they were able to repair it so I can keep using it, and now I don't have to drop $3k+ to buy the same computer new! They even documented everything that was in need of repair so I could see the extent of the damaged areas. I'm completely blown away by the work they did, and I'm so glad I didn't listen to everyone else and took a chance on HPC. Do not hesitate to bring your ailing computer here- they really know their stuff! They're very honest straight shooters too, which is always refreshing. Then we can help you restore what you had." "Sounds good." I paid for a rush job--$400 in 24 hours. I left the store, confident that I had a fix. From there, everything went wrong. The job was finished the next day as promised. When I arrived, Hip opened the computer and I saw ONE file on the desktop, marked "Desktop Recovery." "All of your data and files are in there," Hip assured me. "You said you would help me restore the files." I reminded him. In the next fifteen minutes, Hip helped me recover and restore two files. (Meanwhile, he flitted about, helping other customers and visiting the back room. He displayed profoundly that "geek" intolerance for anyone who doesn't understand and get "computer speak." I left the store with my computer, a desktop with "desktop recovery" on it, and considerable frustration at the lack of promised "help you restore what you had." It's two months later. I have recovered and restored about 10% of my files. The rest??? Every time I need a file, I have to go searching in "Desktop Recovery." No Adobe inDesign files restored. No Google Docs restored. Many of them aren't even "searchable." No Quickbooks files restored. I had told Hip, "I'm not a computer guy. I'm gonna need help." "No problem!" promised Hip. Sorry took so long to write this, but basically I came in because I needed a desktop PC built that could handle not only graphic intensive gaming, but streaming as well, with a 3D rendered Vtubing character. I wanted to talk with someone first about what performance I was looking for, and why I should choose whichever components, parts etc to put into my build, and must say, Hip is one of the most knowledgeable in the industry, and saved me some money in the process. He even was so kind to throw in extra freebies like lighting and a hub so that I could have a SD card reader! The thing that really made me call here, was that I was reluctant with going to IbuyPower or other online retailers, because you just pick parts, and not everything they offer may be what you actually need, as I found out when discussing with Hip. I think I spent at least a few hours with him, and he didn't even mind nor get impatient to discuss the ins and outs of pc parts. It's reassuring that he guarantees the pc parts, components, etc for up to 3 years, and because they also do in-house repairs, you will be well taken care of, should you have any problems down the line. No need ship the pc to the mainland yourself etc, just bring it in! After determining what the final build would be, price point etc, he completed my pc in under a week! Had I went online, they were quoting at least two weeks to build and maybe another week or two to ship (you know, cause they're building it in the mainland and then shipping to Hawaii so the extra time gets tacked on ). On top of that, Briana and Hip built the pc so clean! Their cable management inside the tower is so organized - No ugly wiring all over the place, like how most companies will ship it to you. They also had a better heatsink too than the standard that most companies use in their pc builds. All in all, I recommend everyone who cannot build their own pc to Hip's company, HPowerComputing - they have extensive knowledge on PC's, their customer service is top notch, and their turnaround time is lightning fast! NEVER NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!! Total rip off on parts and labor. I dont know much about pc builds but he upgraded to a low end m/b, 3 cheap ass rgb fans, generic 700w psu, few led light strips, and cheap ass air cooler costs $1300. I verified each items on Amazon and it was 3x more he was charging...The 3 strips LED lights he charged me $150. This pc was a pre-built from BestBuy $1450. I had no idea he was charging me 3x more. Now I built a new gaming pc...bought all my parts...and Nacron Production charged 1/3 of what H Power charged me to built it...So I built a 2nd gaming pc from Nacron again. Everyone...go to Nacron for any issues with your pc. He will come to your home and the price is very resonable. read more

First time i brought my own part with me and was charged over $330 for Hip to work on my laptop right away. The part that i brought was not correct, so i asked how much would it be to order parts through the shop and was told $259. I asked if i will be charge $330 for labor again, so Hip said No its included. Ok, so I came back a week later to install new parts, but now the price was $380 for the parts, which i mentioned to Hip that this is not what i was quoted. And he just flipped out for bringing it up. So my guess is that they will do the job, but they will OVERCHARGE for everything, because their business is not built to create relationship for customers to return. read more

Their free diagnostic sucked me in, but it was basically just turning on my computer and saying it did not work. I figured that since my girlfriend drove me down there (and I wanted to live) to pay the $170 or so for them to get in there and check out the parts. I was told that there would be text and e-mail updates, but they only texted once to say it was on their bench, and I never got a text after that. I was waiting for the text updates, wondering what was taking so long then I found an email message from them that was about a week old saying what they found out. So, they told me among other things that my SSD was pau. The price they quoted me for a replacement ssd seemed high, so I checked with a couple other places. They both agreed with me that it was really high too and quoted me way lower prices. The price this place quoted me was $399.95 for a 1TB SSD and $699.95 for a 2 TB SSD. And, they said that included a $100 discount. No way bro. At this point, I decided to cut my losses and go with Nacron who had quoted me an initial repair cost that was half what this place charged and included free pick up and delivery. With Nacron I ended up paying $89.99 for pickup, delivery,and repair plus $375.00 for a 2 TB SSD. So, Their repair cost was about half what an Power charged just to test the components. And, I got a 2 TB SSD for less than what H Power was going to charge me for a 1 TB. Not only that but they found that 4 USB ports that HPower told me didn't work actually were fine. When I picked up my computer the tech was very friendly and carried my computer to my car for me. He even took the time to clean off residue from a sticker they had put on the case. They had cleaned my computer which had been dirty from dust. Given the lack of text updates and the exorbitant prices I can't justify going back here. read more

I am a general manager of an apartment association and our computer crashed...it would not let me log in. I brought it into Hop at H Power computing and he was able to diagnose the problem and repair the computer. The best part about it was he was able to backup all my files before repair! Came in to get my PC checked out and was ready to spend a pretty penny for them to just take my problems away while I spent the day with my girlfriend. Instead the Owner of this place immediately started yelling at me because of the rust on my PC. I live in Northshore and don't have AC and I understand rust is the issue but the owner yelled at me as if I was a kid in his high school class. He kept yelling "26 years experience trust me I know what I'm talking about". I don't know if he had a bad day or he hates his life but this guy had horrible customer service. Went in because my monitor was not displaying any images. The was able to get an image on their monitor with my PC. This result told us that the PC was not the problem. The owner then gave me a multitude of options to try at home. One of the options was to reset the circuit breaker for the inlet my PC was using. This worked and now my PC and monitor are working fine. He didn't charge me for this advice. Great service and I highly recommend H Power. read more

I brought my 5 year old laptop in to find out why it would not charge or start up. I was charged $238 upfront for diagnosis of the problem. 10 days later I was told the mother board was corroded and was likely not worth fixing. They then wanted to sell me one of there rebuilt laptops and none of the $238 I had paid could be applied to the purchase. I felt the charge for their diagnosis service was over-priced and their service was slow. I rarely go to computer stores as I usually get most things online, but in this case I needed a hard drive cable for my new SSD and no where had it. although it is a bit more expensive than buying online I needed to get it so I paid the price for the cable. the store front is very nice with high end systems displayed whew that looked like a 10k system that I was looking at that had a very high end Video card and all the lights and bling in it for that high end gamer fortunately my wallet looked thin so I wasn't about to go and get that high end system although like Pavlov's dog I was salivating! They helped me quite quickly to get my cable and I was on my way with just a few dollars poorer rather than a thousands poorer although that system sure looked good! Well for those of you not wanting that run of the mill systems this is the place to go for your high end systems..
