My wife and I moved into our home a few years back. We were excited because it was our first home and we were excited to own a pool and have our friends over in the summers. Since we had never owned a pool, and our families never had pools growing up, we didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. The pool is about 20 years old and there was a redwood tree that was growing next to where the pump and filtration equipment is. Over time, the redwood pushed the equipment up so that it is somewhat slanted. Also, it dropped its leaves and branches into the pool constantly which frequently caused the piping to clog up. Also, the previous owner jury-rigged the piping to come down into where the skimmer is supposed to be so that the only skimmer basket filtering all the redwood leaves and branches is the one in the pump! Needless to say, the redwood was one of the first things that had to go and we had it cut down. During our first season, the pool went green and we thought it was going to be a money pit. We had purchased a home warranty (Old Republic) and paid extra for the pool coverage. We called them out and the timid little weasel they sent out said that he wouldn't touch the pool equipment and then he documented to our home warranty that there was a piece of the equipment improperly installed so they didn't have to cover anything (oh, he also charged us a $50 call out fee...to do nothing except screw us over). Another repair guy came out and said he was going to have to replace the entire system for a small fortune. Luckily, I came across Phil's number through a friend of a friend and he came out and looked at it. I was immediately impressed by his positive attitude. After being told over and over it was going to just cost me a ton of money, Phil only charged a small reasonable fee and the pool immediately turned around, went blue, and we were able to enjoy it for that season. This current season (2019) we noticed the pressure in the system was low and the skimmer was barely working. The pool company that we used suggested a repair guy that looked at it for about 5 minutes and said it can't be fixed and to replace the system. I remembered about Phil and found I still had his number saved in my contacts. He came out in a timely fashion, spent about an hour inspecting the equipment, and then came up with a few theories about what was wrong. I tried to pay him for his time and he said he would only charge me if he was able to fix the problem. He came out the following week and, once again, my pool is working great and we are enjoying it for the season. He also charged me under what he quoted me. I am very aware I am going to have to replace the entire pump system at some point in the new few years because of the moron who installed it next to a redwood tree. BUT, I am trying to squeeze a few years of life out of it because I cannot afford to replace it quite yet. I am very glad to have found Phil because I have absolutely no idea what I would have done if I had not. I can probably count on one hand how many products/places I have reviewed on Yelp or Amazon in my lifetime. But I truly appreciate good customer service, skill, and professionalism, and so I think it is important that it be known that Phil is the man. I am taking a few minutes to put this out there in the hope someone else feeling the same sort of desperation like I was can maybe read this and know that they will be in good hands if they reach out to Phil for some help. read more
