I'm not one to leave reviews but this experience was not an enjoyable one. I will preface the service was very good but man the food was not... The fried calamari was not crispy and pretty bland. The salmon was dry and the sauce was there to cover up the dryness it seemed. The shrimp and scallop Alfredo was "kinda gross" verbatim from my girlfriend. I ate here about 14 months ago. The portions were generous and the food was delicious. Last night I ordered takeout consisting of one whitefish sandwich and one seafood roll. We tried calling several times but according to other reviews they just won't answer the phone. 14 months ago I had the whitefish sandwich and the size of the fish was way bigger than the roll. The breading was slight in comparison to the fullness of the delicious fish. Last night when we got home with our order, I couldn't believe how bad things had changed. They forgot to give us tartar sauce (last year I remember the sauce was delicious). Of course I called them and of course they didn't answer. I did leave a message for Victoria, the GM but she did not return the call. The worst part of this very expensive sandwich was that it was a piece of fried batter with very little fish that you couldn't even see until you opened the bun. And it tasted worse than it looked. I understand the economy is challenged but I would rather pay more money (although it is currently not inexpensive), than feel like a victim of robbery. What a waste of money. Better off buying a filet of fish at McDonald's which costs less money and you'll get way more fish that you can actually taste, and not just fried bread crumbs. read more

Outstanding! This spot has easily become our favorite date night spot when we travel to TC. It's right on the water, has good food, solid cocktails, and great service! We ordered our favorites, Smoked White Fish Dip, which they're famous for and is soooo amazing! And the Pan Seared Halibut with asparagus and mushroom risotto in lobster sauce (ohhh baby). While you wait for your food, Apache Trout Grill also brings out freshly baked bread with a balsamic + pesto dipping oil that is so good I want to drink it! If you're ever in the Traverse City area, eat at Apache Trout Grill. There's usually around a 2 hour wait for dinner. I recommend putting your name on the list (they don't take reservations) 1.5 hours before you plan to eat. We typically don't wait the full wait time. You won't regret it! read more

We were hoping to dine al fresco on the waterfront. Because of low staffing that day they were only serving drinks outside. We dined inside, we had Sprouts, Western BBQ Shrimp, and Rainbow Trout. All the portions were very generous.The Sprouts were tasty, so were the Shrimp. The Trout was delicious! The only problem was the Tarragon Butter Sauce made it mushy, that was great for the bed of Wild Rice but not for the fish which was suppose to be the highlight of the dish. To save the day, we went outside for drinks on the waterfront. Our indoors waitress Alexa was fantastic!, the kitchen service was outstanding! and our outdoor waitress Kamaryn was great! We try to come here every time we are in Traverse City. We have always enjoyed whatever we order. Fish tacos are my go-to menu option. Sunday brunch is incredible - one of the best around. My family and I used to frequent Apache Trout Grill when I was much younger. It was a favorite of theirs even 20+ years ago. We hadn't been in a while, so we went for dinner recently. We were able to put our names on the wait list prior to arriving, and luckily, there was a table available when we arrived! Everything was fantastic. They clearly consider every detail and make dining an experience. The bread with their balsamic pesto is to die for! I could have drunk the pesto from the plate if it was appropriate to do so. The calamari was crispy and fresh. The lobster bisque was truly some of the best I've ever had. I wish there was less potato and more seafood, but doesn't everyone? The soup was phenomenal. My mom and I shared the scallops and salmon. The scallops were perfectly seared and the risotto was rich and creamy. The salmon was great, but I do wish it had stronger jalapeño and honey flavors. The green beans as the vegetable were delish! Wild rice is... wild rice. For wild rice, it was good haha. My dad loved his halibut! We couldn't leave without some key lime pie and carrot cake. The food was fabulous. We started with the whitefish dip. It was delicious. My husband ordered the 3 for $30 salmon. It included an appetizer and salad. It was terrific. I had the Pan Seared Halibut with creamy mushroom asparagus risotto. I would highly recommend it. It was delicious and a huge portion. The service was great and since the restaurant is right on the water, the views were awesome. They also have outdoor seating. We were looking for a late night dinner as most places closed at 8 or 9 pm and we were very happy with our selections. No wait on a Saturday night and we got seated right away in a cozy booth with the view of the nice fireplace. The food was amazing. The pull apart bread and bruschetta were great appetizers choices. I had the blackened Caesar salad and the rest of our table got the 5 cheese Mac n' Cheese and the roast. Everyone was very happy. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. My friends had the walleye which was also very good, but they agreed the halibut was definitely better! The views here are everything. Right on the bay, you can't go wrong with enjoying a beverage outside. The biggest issue was the quality of food for the price. The portion sizes were huge but the taste was not up to snuff. It seemed like the kitchen needed to get rid of food. The service was good, definitely not an issue with that. My friend suggested I try this place while in TC over the summer. Tried to go for dinner and the wait was over 3hrs, no thanks! My husband and I were back in the area in November so we decided to try again. The wait was 45 minutes, which turned into an hour. I am sure glad we didn't wait the original 3 hours over the summer! They do not take reservations but they take your name and text you once your table is ready (you are asked to wait outside/in car). We were quoted 25mins and were seated in slightly less than that. They have the Covid thing down! Spaced apart tables, wait staff wearing masks, and separate entrance and exit etc The reason I'm not giving them a 5 is that our waitress forgot to bring out our appetizer. We were all looking forward to the whitefish dip too. I brought it to her attention as she was serving our entrees. But by that time we had all this food in front of us so we passed on her bringing it out later. Two of us had the Apache whitefish dinner which was very good and filling and my other friend had their salmon caesar salad which she liked. My boyfriend and I ate this last night. I ordered the whitefish, and he ordered the filet. His steak was overcooked, but he was too hungry to say anything. I, however, let my waitress know that the fish and mashed potatoes were both very bland and not good. She asked if I wanted something else, but at that point, we needed to get going. She then brought the bill over, and I was shocked to see she charged us full price for my meal that I hardly touched. I am a manger at a wine bar/ chop house and was very displeased. in that way, it was handled or lacked off being handled at all. I would never charge someone full price for something they took only a couple bites of And didn't enjoy. We were excited to try this place and only left unhappy and hungry. Be careful of this restaurant. They have implemented a 3% surcharge with a small sign posted on the door and fine print on the menu then have the audacity to pretend it's not a unethical hidden fee. Food is already overpriced and claimed the 3% was to cover fluctuating food costs. Its unethical to have hidden surcharges that most people miss but instead should add it to the menu. If the greedy owners were worried about fluctuating prices they would print menus daily. Not to mention the swarm of fruit flies at our table while eating trying to land in the wine. On top of that with the doors open and no fans to keep the flies put of the restaurant there were black flies coming to our table too! Wait staff was friendly and attentive but manager was full of excuses for the hidden surcharge and the fly issue! read more

If you're in Traverse City, this is the place to go. Be prepared to wait 3 hours for a table, no matter what time you arrive. The food is a little average, and most people go for a coveted spot at the Tiki Bar which offers amazing views right on the water. We ordered the locals favorite 'smoked white fish dip' which was not much better than a Deli white fish salad. We also ordered the seafood pasta dish which was lovingly adorned with garlic and fresh seafood. The view was fantastic, and made it worth the wait to gain entry. We really wanted to like our meal, But we felt restaurant was unfortunately overpriced and over rated. It's in a beautiful location with a great view, but unfortunately we were stuck inside since they only serve drinks on the patio. They did have the tables set apart but it just felt dark and copped up outside. Even if it were a limited menu it would be great to enjoy the fresh air with a snack during this pandemic. I had the whitefish tacos and they were the fishiest tasting tacos I have ever tasted. Definitely not worth the $18 for lunch. The avocado egg roll they served it with was delicious. My husbands French fries with his sandwich were cold and soggy. This was my second time visiting, and both visits were fantastic. I'm a creature of habit, so I started with the goat cheese app and had the filet as an entree each time. Filets don't always have a ton of flavor, but this dish was seasoned perfectly (also juicy, not dry). It was cooked just right, between a medium rare-medium. I had the lavender lemonade which was tasty (lemonade is from the gun), and my sister enjoyed her Bloody Mary. Since our 2nd visit came during COVID updates, here is what they do: Per Michigan guidelines, you are asked to wear a mask when not at the table. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess. She was very matter of fact about masks and requirements for where to wait. Social distancing is required so the bar has seats missing with reserved signs blocking people from crowding in. (Not complaining here, just stating what it is like.) Everyone working was incredibly efficient when this must be very difficult. Kudos to the staff for staying upbeat during these times. read more

I know the wait here can get pretty insane on a busy weekend - I heard the hostesses tell parties that there would be up to a 1.5hr wait when I came. Luckily I was a party of 1 so I got seated at the bar immediately (perks of solo traveling!). I got the smoked whitefish dip and the panko-crusted whitefish burger with sweet potato fries since I wanted to try whitefish before I left the northern part of Michigan. For $16, the whitefish dip could have been better, and it honestly made me full enough so that I couldn't finish much of my burger by the time it came. The naan bread and flatbread crackers were a lot for the dip which was pretty salty, and adding on gherkins too to balance out the dip I guess. I did get free bread with basil and pesto sauce from the waiter at the bar serving me, which was nice considering there was a large party sitting right next to me at the bar so I was hanging off the edge of the bar while they took their time. The burger was standard and the sweet potato fries were pretty good. The fish in the burger was kinda dry though, and the sauces and tomato in the burger sogged up the bread a bit. I don't think I would've paid $17 for it. Overall though, my dining experience was decent. read more

Unfortunately we wont be going back. This used to be my favorite place to eat in Traverse City, but nothing we had tonight was good. It wasn't bad tasting; it just wasn't good. Had the seafood pasta, and nothing seemed seasoned. I started with the French onion soup and it was fine. The onions were a little tough but the broth was good. My husband had the walleye and it wasn't good. He started with the shrimp and lobster bisque and it was ok. We didn't finish anything and definitely didn't want boxes. $102 is a lot of money for what can only be called at best, a mediocre meal. The view is fantastic but we went at night so we weren't able to enjoy that. Our server was adequate, though another server noticed our empty glasses and took care of refills. As poor as things have become, I feel confident Apache grill will not stay open. read more
