Bell's Two Hearted Ale and Grand Traverse Bay
Christine S.

Stopped in while driving along M22 near Traverse City and ended up staying longer than planned because of the view. You are right on the water and can see Grand Traverse Bay from almost every seat. They have a good mix of local beers and cocktails, including Bell's Two Hearted on tap. Quick service, great bartenders. It's an easy place to relax with a drink and take in the water.

This was a great spot. We sat in the bar area tables and had a great meal. We ordered a variety of items like delicious French onion soup and the bacon wrapped bbq shrimp. Everything was flavorful! We had great service and would totally visit again.

Hair in food

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local and it was quite delicious. While this restaurant is more on the pricy side, every dish we had was absolutely delicious with little to no complaints. I read the yelp reviews to stay away from the fried items so we did, but overall we had an amazing time and the outside lounge area was beautiful! The only downside was that I did find a hair in my risotto which killed my appetite unfortunately.

Great view overlooking the water. Restaurant wasn't crowded at all when I visited. Had the shrimp and scallop Alfredo. Good portion size and quite tasty. Very limited bourbon selection at the bar.

"Lightly dusted perch???" Gross!!!

Order the "lightly dusted " perch for $40! Might as well ordered fish and chips. Disgusting. Received a cookie cutter response from restaurant. What a joke. Please go to any reputable restaurant that serves lake perch and look at what lightly dusted looks like. Do better!!!

Seafood Roll

Do not order the pork tenderloin. I had my fill of seafood for the week and decided to give it a go. It was one of the worst non-fast food meals of my life. Overcooked, tough, and marinated in some kind of teriyaki sauce. The apples along with it weren't terrible but resembled apple pie filling. I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning it so my family each shared a little of what they had ordered. The perch was outstanding as was the seafood roll. Also, the bar cheese appetizer was great. The interior of the restaurant was cool with a up north cabin vibe. I think our waitress was high on something other than marijuana but who am I to judge.

See what I wrote

We are locals and have been here for 30 years. We were there this summer and all was good, but they just recently changed everything and it's horrible. I would not recommend going there unless you wanna have a couple of drinks at the bar and maybe an appetizer but don't bother ordering food. They're way overpriced in the food menu has changed tremendously. See what I wrote below that's why we will no longer go there since we've been going there since the early 90s. The new owners have cut cost and just horrible. We ended up leaving and sent our food back and we will never go there again after all these years, and we even live here.

One of the only places open on a Monday night! I wanted a steak so I decided to check it out. There was an hour or so wait when I arrived but a bar seat was available so I snagged that. I wanted the ribeye but sadly, prices were not posted online and the only option was a 24 oz tomahawk for $75 (MP). I settled for the 8oz filet ($47). It comes with mashed potatoes and a veggie (they seemed flexible about swapping any of the sides.) It was tender and well-seasoned. I do think it's a bit pricey but given the area and that it's a local business, I won't knock a star for it! There were options in the upper $20s range. They have a beautiful lawn by the lake with some seating - they only serve drinks out there. Apparently the owners are the same as a more casual spot up the road ...I believe it's called West End Tavern. (Free) Parking was full but I got a spot after waiting a minute or so.

Ordered the shrimp and lobster bisque after reading reviews online. It did not disappoint. It was delicious. Will definitely be back the next time I visit Traverse City!

It's an old, rustic, cabin on the water feel. The outdoor patio is awesome and the view is beautiful. The service was great and the food came out super quick. My other comments on the food- the fish we got had tons of bones in it so be careful. The steak was a bit undercooked order one above what you want. The fish soup is super cheesy and thick tasting.

Super salty Pan Seared Halibut
Sohaib L.

Unfortunately the place was not good. The halibut was super salty. The fish sandwich had a strong fish taste. Best item was the bread. The service was good. They don't take reservations and usually a 2hr wait. The place is clean, with good amount of seating. They have an outdoor drink area where they don't serve food.

Great service beautiful view of the water. Fish was very fresh. The scallops were great, but the halibut was even better.

Are service animals allowed?

Call Apache Trout Grill and asked. By law, they must accept service dogs. Not sure if they would accept an Emotional Support animal. You can find more info at https://www.michigan.gov/mdcr/divisions/ada-compliance/service-animals

Reservations needed for this restaurant for a Monday evening?

They do not take reservations. The wait can vary, I waited an 1, 45 minutes but they have a nice bar area looking out at the lake with tables, benches and even some couches.

There were six of us in our group at a table, and you could only hear the person directly next to you. Our group had a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant is small, and the tables are very close together and felt packed in. They do have a small roped off 'patio' area on the side walk with a couple of tables. I thought the service was fine, others in the group felt it was poor (probably because no one could hear her and we had to repeat ourselves). The server did recommend that we share several dishes as a table as they are small plates. We ordered the bread and the three vegetable appetizers to start. Here is where it is hard to review: all of the appetizers were fantastic, interesting and fresh preparations. From the light courses section, we had the bougie corn dog and the duck pasta. I'm not a fan of corn dogs, I thought it was fine, but pretentious and not worth ordering, others liked it. I did like the duck pasta. The mushroom tart was boring, dry, and forgettable (side note that if you are in Detroit, Le Supreme's is absolutely fantastic, so this can be memorable). The other stand out was the walleye main, their use of curry made it an interesting, as well as delicious, dish. We all thought the halibut was awful, it arrived with a fishy smell, but was then somehow flavorless. If we were not all splitting it, it would be a send back dish. Overall, the dishes ranged from flavorful and interesting, to terrible. No member of our group felt they would return, and I would recommend against it due to the noise level, it really was that bad. Every sound echoed off of every hard surface. As a result, it just was not an enjoyable experience.

It's an old house that has been transformed into a burger destination. The inside is cramped, especially in the order area when they're busy, and indoor seating is tough to come by at peak times. The service has never been anything short of excellent on our visits. The staff is welcoming, helpful, patient, and friendly. Service is quick, even when they're slammed. Phenomenal burgers, O-rings, tots, and sweet potato fries. The Northwood's DRAFT (not fountain) root beer is a perfect pairing with their burgers. Slabtown's menu of specialty burgers is enormous and the BYO options include different protein choices and excellent GF buns. I've tried many of their burgers, but have to say that the Slabby Patty on a pretzel bun and the Pungi's Pepper Patty really stood out as a couple of my favorites. For a really sinful (and unhealthy) treat, ask for the gravy tots. Oh brother...insanely good but definitely a guilty pleasure. We've sent tons of our friends and family here, and I can tell you that every one of them has thanked us for the recommendation and raved about their burgers. So what are you waiting for? The slight cherry tang invthe bbq sauce created a very appetizing taste. The wings were cooked perfectly and I highly enjoyed them. I ordered the Pork Chop dinner ($29). This is a local michigan-raised pork with a cherry apple chutney. The pork chop was excellent and the cherry apple chutney was a great addition. It came with mashed potatoes and a cucumber corn medley. They both were very good. North Peak Brewing makes their own Root Beer. Honestly that why I chose to come here. Thankfully the Root Beer was excellent. The service was friendly, but not very efficient. I think they are short staffed because the bar tender was also my waiter and he was busy bartendering! Prices are high because it's Traverse City, so that doesn't bother me and you get the soup for 5 bucks when you add it to a meal! Nice! We started with the calamari - small portion, but it was hot and fresh and plenty for 2 people to share. I also had a small house salad, and added white cheddar for $1 (that was a good suggestion from our server Kylie!). The pesto ranch was great too. I love their main IPA, they do a great job, and it is always on the menu (versus seasonal). I love how this place is laid out, there are lots of wooden booths that feel quiet and private. The only reason for taking off a star is the parking. It's incredible that for a large restaurant, they share a small lot with multiple businesses. Everything else is great and you will appreciate the consistency and the spaciousness of this restaurant!
