This is the place to go if you're visiting Traverse City. Our friends moved to the area a few years ago and it's their favorite spot. The wait time is usually 45+ minutes but you can enjoy a drink out by the water which was great. We waited about an hour before we were seated. All Covid guidelines were followed by all employees. We started with the brussel sprouts and calamari. The brussel sprouts were out of this world. They also provide fresh bread with a pesto oil dipping sauce. It was wonderful. My husband had the shrimp and lobster bisque before his meal and the bite I had was delicious. Tons of flavor and huge pieces of lobster and shrimp! I had the scallops which came over asparagus and mushroom risotto. It was out of this world. Everything about our meal was perfect. We'll be back next time we're up visiting our friends! read more

We visited the Apache Trout Grill during our last visit to Traverse City. Whenever we visit TC (we have family there, so we go probably more often than the regular joe), we always try to get some fresh fish since it's right on the lake. The hubs wanted some trout and picked this place since trout is in the name. Guess what though, there's no trout on the menu! Uh, ok then...Even without the trout, the food was tasty and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Here are the highlights: -The food is really yummy. The hubs settled for the Lake Superior Walleye instead of trout. I went with the BBQ sliders on pretzel buns. The kiddo got the kid's quesadilla. Everything was very delicious and I would order any of these items again in a heartbeat. -Good customer service. Very friendly staff and our server was pretty good. -It's a great atmosphere with a great view of the lake. It's pretty inside, which is just nice when you are on vacation. -We were in TC at the height of tourist season, in the middle of the touristy area and yet the prices were pretty average. They were probably just $1-2 over what you would pay in the middle of a regular, not tourist trap location. -The service was friendly but everything was slow. We were slow to be greeted, slow to order, really slow for the food to come out, and slow to get the check and pay. They weren't crazy busy, so I'm not sure what was up. It wasn't horrible, but just longer than you would expect for everything. Don't go if you are in a rush. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty, sit down meal. read more

Apache Trout Grill is a favorite stop whenever we visit Traverse City. Yesterdays's lunch was exceptionally good, and the snowy view of the West Bay was a wonderful accompaniment! And although it's hard to resist the delicious Panko Crusted Whitefish sandwich, we also tried the Ahi Tuna Club - which immediately became a new favorite. Tuna served rare (as it should) the flavor combo was a real treat. Fries served hot and fresh. Great service too. Already looking forward to our next visit - snow or surf - a Pure Michigan view! Returned 6/20 for a summertime lunch. What a view of the boats to accompany a great meal and top-notch service. We still like it there very much and in season, the perfect spot for a tiki bar experience on the water. Delicious Panko Whitefish Entree this time and Ahi Tuna Club - again delish. read more

I've been here multiple times and it's always delicious. The appetizers are all good. The food is all good. The drinks are all good. I like the blue cocktail that they have while my boyfriend likes their cider. The whitefish dip is delicious. I love the lobster and shrimp bisque. They also will give you bread with oil and vinegar and it's so good I went and bought some for my house. It is pricey but to me the food is worth the price. read more

Came for dinner on a Saturday night, had the French Onion Soup, Seafood Alfredo and French Dip with Fries. Best French Onion Soup and French Dip I've ever had! The patio is not for food orders, only drinks while you're waiting so we grabbed a few beverages and enjoyed the dock. The food was excellent. I really wanted local fish since we were visiting from out of town for the week. The whitefish did not disappoint! Kate C. Was our server. She was THE BEST (if mgmt is reading I hope you let her know regularly how great she is and give her some recognition for making this crazy Ohio family happy)- definitely ask for her if you have the chance!! She recommended the whitefish and also mentioned my only tip: if you order the pecan encrusted whitefish, might get the sauce on the side! The portions are huge. I shared the Apache Whitefish with my teenager. Split the plate for an extra $3. Definitely worth it for that as well. The fish was perfect. My mom got the pecan encrusted, I would say get the sauce on the side. It's sweet. She still enjoyed it though. Dad got the mixed BBQ plate, he thought it was good. My two kiddos got the chicken tenders and corn dogs. There were no complaints and clean plates. We also enjoyed the Brie and BBQ shrimp appetizers. Both delicious. The food was AMAZING. We ordered the halibut with risotto and the Boursin filet (rare). It was honestly the best steak we've ever had. Even the carrot cake dessert was to die for. In addition, service was great along with the lovely view of Lake Michigan! We highly recommend this place. read more

The night we went it was very busy & our server seemed stretched too thin. My cousin's steak was over-cooked & the replacement came after everyone was done eating. Unfortunately the new steak was very undercooked & she was only able to eat the edges. My sister's fish had many small bones that she was not aware of until she started eating. The fish she ordered is a common restaurant offering & normally doesn't have bones in each bite. When we asked the waitress she replied that "fish have bones" & walked away. We talked to a manager & her response was "aren't you the table with the steak?" She was also quick to dismiss us & move on. It was odd, especially because we weren't asking for anything special to be done, only inquiring if that is typical & giving a heads up for the fish seemed appropriate. Just before we left we did overhear our waitress caution the table next to us when serving the fish that it has several bones. With so many places to choose in TC I don't think I will take a chance on this restaurant again. read more

Stopped in during summer solstice, after 9 during new post-covid rules not too many places were open. We got brussel sprout appetizer and for my entree I ended up getting the meatloaf dinner and my girl got the seafood linguine. Service was good and food came out in a timely manner. Prices were on par for a place that was casual but a tad more upscale and on the water, most entrees were about 30-40 dollars. Seemed to be the theme for the food here, not seasoned well. Appetizer was cooked right but the sprouts didn't have much flavor, like it was cooked on it's own and then served with the other ingredients added. Meatloaf was decent and the linguine was decent also, just tasted like it needed more seasoning or different seasoning. I would give it another shot but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

We ate at the Apache trout grill in early august 22. Stunning location, or wait was about half as long as they quoted us which was nice. We enjoyed drinks in the park of the lake. We were looking forward to pecan encrusted whitefish but were really disappointed that it was no longer on the menu. Instead I tried the walleye which was excellent. We enjoyed our dinner, the whitefish dip was very good, but the chimichurri style spread that came with the warm bread was outstanding. The only other disappointment that we had with the dinner was that they replaced the wild rice that came with the dinner (and was still on the menu) with regular rice pilaf without letting Is know ahead of time. That is always a problem with me. If you're out or unable to get something, tell me while I'm ordering or change the menu. It comes down to respect for your customer. Overall a nice dinner. Spendy of course and a little disappointing on other issues, but the food and experience was enjoyable. read more

Lovely service and amazing food! If you are ever in the area looking for a place to stop for a wonderful beachside dinner with local and homemade food, look no further!! I haven't had crab before and the Chesapeake bay Mac n cheese was divine. We had the Bruschetta starter and the presentation and balance was incredible. Our waitress was very attentive despite the large amount of people. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing and my friend and I enjoyed the modern/rustic architecture of the building. My mother and I have been coming here for years and have we have had consistently great food and service. From steaks to seafood you can't go wrong with your choice. The salads and soups are excellent as well. The seafood bisque is among the best I've had anywhere. My main go to here is the Baja tacos with beer battered whitefish. The whitefish is delicate and flaky. The tacos are huge and stuffed and I normally take half home. The drinks are expensive but it's on par with most of the restaurants in TC. I like sitting up at the bar so I can watch the Tigers game, have a glass of local wine, and enjoy my fish tacos. There can be a long wait to get a table especially in the warmer months but the food and ambiance makes it worth the wait. read more

I was so looking forward to having fish again after having an incredible experience at a Mackinac Island bistro and thought this place looked good. Extremely disappointed with the walleye I was served mushy and greasy, vegetable looked and tasted like reheated from the night before, green beans were wrinkled and carrots curled and burned, rice tasted reheated. Can't believe this was served. Food presentation was slapped together. After tasting I could not eat meal and sent it back. View was spectacular, but I came for the food. Finally, ordered food and drinks together and eight or so minutes later (still no water or drinks) are approached by a manager to tell us that they don't have the fish tacos we ordered. Honestly, my husband and I have been here a hand full of times. I would have to drop it half a star and give it a 3.5. We arrived for a late lunch around 2:00. They took forever to answer the phone because we wanted to ask them a question. Assumed it was super busy but we arrived within 10 minutes the lot was not packed. We walked in and waited nearly 4 minutes before any acknowledgement. I'm going to assume it's Covid-related speed... The shrimp and lobster bisque is just the way we remember so this is why it's worth a stop. The chopped Cobb salad had a practically frozen tomato, bacon bits that seemed like they came from a bag, and a grilled chicken breast that came from Gordon's food services. Should have gone with a Caesar Salad... Once again, the shrimp and lobster bisque is always the way to go here... do not deny yourself that experience. While the wait on a Sunday night was 1 hour and 45 minutes the set up of the bar on the patio and the view were amazing and fun to hang out on. The food was excellent along with the service. Most of us had the scallops which were delicious. The shrimp and lobster bisque was very good as well. Service was attentive. The only improvement is for the patio bar to have the spirits and equipment to make more types of drinks. We had a great lunch here! They have seating that is indoor and outdoor with great views of the water. They also have a parking lot which is a nice plus. I ordered the fish sandwich and the sweet potato fries-the fries were definitely top 3 of any sweet potato fries I've had. Fish sandwich was delicious-good size piece of fish and the breading was a nice texture without being too greasy or dry. Burger at the table was also good as were the tacos. Could there be a better outdoor Tiki Bar anywhere! Unfortunately they are unable to serve appetizers outside but the views of Grand Traverse Bay make up for it. They also have picnic tables on the lawn overlooking the Bay as well as couches and chairs.
