Live review in progress... We arrived with a reservation for two. The dining room was not overly crowded. We ordered a bottle of wine quickly and had a very attentive server. 90 minutes later the bottle of wine is almost gone and our entrees are not here. I will update as we make it through the meal. Update 1: The food came out as I hit send. The cook on the meat was very correct. However, the rack of lamb came out lukewarm to room temperature. Presentation was beautiful, but seemed to be too long rested. Sides on the plate (white bean puree and the vegetables) came out to correct temp. The plate was returned and came back with the comment the puree was supposed to be chilled. Understood, but the lamb was not warm. The kitchen solution was to use a warm jus. The filet came out correct cook and great presentation. Very flavorful. Wine selection is well done and well-priced. The server, Olivia, was lovely and did a wonderful job attending to us. May come back again next time we're in town. For the first visit it wasn't spectacular, but a nice date with the Mrs. Regardless. read more

I and my wife went to this restaurant with five others. She and I ordered the "special" while the others ordered standard menu items. The special was skirt steak, two shrimp & mushrooms. The other five were served their dinners at least 10 minutes before my wife & I were served. She and I had not had a chance to try our meals when the waiter came to ask about the meals. The others said the food was fine. Well when we tried our food it was room temperature. My wife's steak was edible but each bite I took was primarily gristle - just tough!. Even cutting the meat was tough. I'd put it in my mouth, chew for awhile & then would have to spit it out. Tried four different pieces. The gristle was getting caught between my teeth. It was just too tough and cold to boot. I quit trying. The chef, if he had been paying attention, could have determined the meat I was served was tough just by carving it into the various pieces. It was obviously tough. One of my fellow diners offered me a piece of her chicken which I took. It was very good. My wife's steak was tender enough to eat but not warm. When the waiter showed up with the bill, I told him quietly that my meal was awful. He responded by saying, "When I asked about the meals that is when you should have said something. You didn't give me a chance to address the problem." Fair enough, except for the fact that he checked in when my wife and I had just been served (by other wait staff). We never saw him again until time to pay. I don't know if he knew my wife & I had been served so late, but he should have. I can't say for sure, but I suspect my wife's & my dinners were left sitting somewhere for more than 10 minutes while the others were served. We told the others to go ahead & eat their meals; they hesitated but finally started eating when it was clear our dinners were not showing up any time soon. No waiter, no other wait staff, - nothing! Finally our meals were served by a young woman server; no apologies for the delay. No explanation. After my complaint, the waiter sent another person to my table to speak with me. I told him that I was not asking for "the meal" to be comped. Rather, I just wanted to make it clear that the meal & service were lousy for my wife & me. He comped my "meal". To be fair the two shrimp were good but were room temperature, so I did get something for the "complimentary meal". Otherwise it would have been $55 for two lukewarm shrimp. All things considered, I rate the experience a D. The others in our group enjoyed their food. For my wife & me, except for the company, it was exactly the opposite of why one goes out to dinner: we received poor service & lousy food. The bread was good. I will give two stars but begrudgingly. I tend to not complain, particularly when out with others because I don't wish to make a scene. But for the prices this place charges, it all should be perfect. Incidentally, I paid half the bill for the six meals that were charged. Our table shared two fairly expensive bottles of wine. In other words, the bill even with my comped meal subtracted was still big. I paid a 20% gratuity on my half of the total bill. To the manager / owner: Tell your wait staff that if meals are left standing while others at a table are served, something went wrong. Tell them to not ignore that situation because more than likely it is going to result it cold food. The young woman who brought our food so late should have the authority to go back to the management, tell him or her, "we messed up & need to address the situation". You'll smell rich cream sauces, spicy rices, fried green tomatoes, grilled meats, lamb meatloaf with feta - oh my! Make a reservation, get dressed up and come on time, just like you would for that sassy auntie. The patio is the place to be in warm weather. Live music on Thursdays and Sundays in the summer (I believe). Service is excellent. I recommend you request Debbie as your server, but everyone is professional and well trained in the art of hospitality. I always make a point to get up here when I come to TC. Farm to table? More like failure to table. This restaurant is all bark and no bite. We were at first dazzled by the insanely gorgeous ambiance, soothing live music at a reasonable volume, and a bartender who made an unfamiliar drink on the fly. This is where the magic ends. Firstly, this restaurant boats all farm to table and organic, the server recommended the chicken and the steak. My first mistake was trusting this skinny server. Never ever trust a skinny server, they never know what they're talking about. We inquired about the radish appetizer, which the server really talked up. We were expecting some roasted radishes in artisanal butter or something. What arrived to the table is a bunch of poorly sliced radishes, some half circles, some full circles (Anne Burrell would roll in her grave over these inconsistent knife cuts), a half stick of butter smeared on the plate, and a teaspoon of flaky sea salt. I was like wtf is this? I could have gotten a bag of sliced radishes and a pound of Kerry gold at the grocery store and would never be like wow this would make a snack worthy to be an appetizer at an upscale restaurant! Absolutely nothing about this dish is worth $10. We also all ordered salads. The ramp vinaigrette was very enjoyable but there was probably a tablespoon of it on the entire plate. The few bites with dressing were very fresh and enjoyable but other than that I felt like I was eating a bag of grass clippings with some parmigiano reggiano on it. My husband was so excited to have a grass fed New York strip and my mother in law ordered the same. My husband ordered his steak medium rare and my mother in law ordered her steak medium. I ordered the highly recommended chicken against my better judgement. What came to the table? Well, my husband's medium rare steak came medium well and my mother in law's medium steak came well done! These New York strip steaks both resembled a filet more than a New York strip, my husband's portion was much smaller than my mother in law's. I have decent culinary knowledge although I'm kind of a steak novice, but it looked nothing like the New York strips I see at the grocery store or at other steakhouses. My mother in law asked for a refire on the steak due to it being inedible (if you enjoy well done steak, I'm calling the police) and the server said it would take five minutes. My husband finished his food while my mother in law waited and I had them each try my chicken dish. We all agreed the grain side dish that came with the chicken was a little al dente and gross, the chicken skin was rubbery, and overall it just wasn't worth the price point. My mother in law's refired steak arrived after the rest of the plates were cleared from our table. The first few bite was enjoyable and then by the third bite she noticed the steak was cold. She cut a little further to find the steak was completely uncooked in the middle. My mother in law got up to locate the server, and told someone inside to please send her to our table. My mother in law never mentioned an issue with the food, just requested the server come to our table. This is where is gets a little weird. You be the judge: The server rushed to our table saying "I talked to the manager and we're taking it off your bill! It should have been on the grill for a minute longer!" We had not yet explained what our issue was, so it seems they knew they phoned the steak in. So! $200 for raw radishes and butter, two overcooked steaks, a raw steak, a rubber chicken, and 3 plates of grass clippings with a tablespoon of the most delicious garlic ramp vinaigrette I've ever tasted. Even a broken clock is right twice a day I guess! $200 and a 25% tip later we all agreed that you can get better food at the ball game. We had a 545 pm dinner reservation. We were seated immediately. We ordered appetizers a main dish and coffee. We also had ordered wine it was 8 pm and we were asked to leave as they needed the table. For a tab of over $200 per couple i I could not believe that they had the audacity to ask us to leave. While the service and food was 5 star. Lovely restaurant in downtown Sutton's Bay with indoor and outdoors garden seating. Carefully curated menu, not extensive but hits all the right spots. Since we are from California, we ordered the Walleye (can't get it there) and we're not disappointed! Plenty of food for a hungry diner, great vegetables on the side too. Our daughter had the Canadian Halibut that was a special for the night, it was tender and delicious. Everything we saw headed to other tables looked delectable too. We also ordered the Carlson Board that had whitefish sausage, smoked whitefish and whitefish dip. Nice portion for the 3 of us and would be plenty for 4 to share as well. Also something we don't get in CA, so look forward to eating it Up North. Where do I start... from the moment we arrived, the service staff seemed annoyed that we were there. We had to chase our server for service and got our bread basket from another server who was annoyed that we took the one she was taking for her customer. Our mushroom appetizer was actually pretty good. But the Walleye had so much breading that I could have been eating a potato pancake and not known the difference. My husband got the stuffed chicken and usually finishes his meals way before me. Over the years of coming up to Suttons Bay I've had the pleasure of dining at Martha's Leelanau Table 3 or 4 times. Each visit has been consistently good. Excellent farm to table local establishment. If the weather is nice it's worth sitting outside on their patio. The sandwiches and wraps are delicious as are the soups and salads. Everything is fresh and made to order. This time I tried the fried green tomato BLT. It was on thick Italian bread with a basil aioli spread. My mom said her Cuban sandwich was fabulous. We both opted for the tomato bisque soup and were happy with our selection. The soup was creamy, flavorful, and hearty. Martha's has a full cocktail menu and features many of the local wines. It is a little pricey but for the quality and taste of the food it's certainly worth it. Be sure to save room for dessert. The carrot cake was one of the best I've ever had! read more

I would probably rate this one a 4.5, if only because we were cold pretty much the whole meal. Visited a few weeks ago and were seated on the patio, which I thought would be a good bit warmer than it turned out to be. If they're seating people outside, it would be nice to see a little more done to increase the temps out there. We saw at least two tables get up and leave that were seated outside. Other than that, it was a solidly good meal - but not super memorable. We got the raclette appetizer and then my partner got the lake and steak, which she loved and I got the stuffed chicken breast, which was pretty good. We also got the soup, which was good, though really only because we were so cold. Her cocktail was a bit too strong, but our waiter quickly helped us out with that and brought out some more mixer. All around a very good meal, but I think the few small issues knocked me down a star. read more

Martha's is one of the best restaurants in the Grand Traverse Bay Area. I just ate here two weeks in a row. I arrived early for the Prix Fixe meal which has 3 courses, a soup or salad, an entrée (perch or sirloin) with vegetable and potato, and a dessert (tiramisu). I chose the soup both times, and each time I was rewarded. This time it was a roasted pepper tomato bisque which was amazing. The blend of flavors and textures and tiniest whisper of spicy heat was embracing. It was almost like wrapping yourself in a warm cozy sweater. The first time I chose the panko breaded perch -- superb. This time I chose the sirloin--also superb. I asked for Medium/Medium Rare, and it came out as Medium. If you prefer more red, be sure to ask for Medium Rare. The vegetables were excellent, a medley of zucchini and squash and red bell pepper, cooked perfectly and flavored with herbs. The buttermilk mashed potatoes were also tasty. The tiramisu dessert was one of the best tiramisus I've had. My Italian great grandmother would be proud! I also know from fond experience that the asparagus tarragon sauce served with the whitefish is transcendent. Highly recommended. read more

I usually come to Traverse City every year for my birthday, which is also on Saint Patrick's Day, and for the last couple, I've been coming to Martha's for birthday dinner. They made it so special for me, I felt so welcome, everyone was so nice, the food (corned beef and cabbage on special!) was delicious as always, and they even left a little signed card for me!! The wine was so wonderful, and I even was given a little turtle ice cream for dessert. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect night and Martha's made it a night to remember. Lovely place for breakfast when you're in the Sutton's Bay area. We were looking for a place to eat that was pet friendly since we had our puppy. Walking by we saw a sign right out front that said furry companions were welcome so, one quick glance at the menu and we were in! I can't speak to the inside since we ate on the patio but the patio itself is beautiful. You're surrounded by an iron gate, tons of flowers and greenery, and there's a shade sail over the whole patio so you're protected by the sun. Fresh air without the burn! The menu is on the smaller side but everything sounds delicious. My boyfriend and mom got the St. Tropez baked eggs (2 scrambled eggs with fresh spinach, bacon, Shetler's cream, & parmesan cheese) and it was quite good. The eggs were so fluffy and the flavor combos had be reaching for both their plates more than once! I myself got the cherry french toast. I liked it but I was kind of expecting thicker slices, like more of a challah or something. But it was good. Just not sure I'd get it again should we return. I do like that they try and keep things seasonal and local, though! Prices for breakfast were fairly reasonable (about $10-13 per plate) but maybe on the higher side given the portions. They also serve lunch and dinner and their website tells me they also offer cooking classes which sounds delightful! We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. While getting a much needed night away from Troy to Traverse City, we ordered carry out (they also provide delivery within 10 miles) from Martha's Leelanau Table. It was excellent!! We ordered: butternut squash soup; featured salad of the day with goat cheese, cranberries, mix greens, pears, and walnuts; Harvest Bowl which included Brussels sprouts, carrots, butternut squash, cranberries, potatoes, quinoa, and the optional chicken add-on (or salmon); accompanied with some fresh bread and candy canes thrown in for a festive treat.
