Salmon dinner with a creamy dill sauce, wild rice and green beans.
    Dorothy S.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food tasted. I ordered the salmon dinner and then left room so I could order dessert. I had the New York Cheesecake with caramel sauce, and my waitress said she gave me extra whipped cream. The waitress was attentive and checked on me throughout and made sure to refill my drink before it got too low. The restaurant was a little loud but since I was by myself it was entertaining to listen to the various conversations. I want to try other local restaurants during my stay so I am not sure if I will return again before I go home, but I definitely recommend this restaurant. Edited to include a pet peeve - the restaurant charges 3.5% if you pay by credit card. Thankfully I had cash.

Parkshore Resort Lounge is a best kept secret to most, but not to the locals who frequent that hidden gem. The lounge has all that you could ask for. We went there twice on the weekend Fri.& Sat. nights because of their DJ Mike and discovered a cornucopia of food. Over our 2 day adventure there In between dances, we dined on Escargot, Raw Oysters, Oysters Rockefeller, Salsa & Chips, Crab Cakes, Quesadillas, White Fish, Lobster Bisque, Texas Burgers, and Chicken Wings. We also drank plenty, Lemon Drop, Pina Colada, Hennessey, and draft beers, Winter Lager, Bells, & Labatt. All the food and drinks were awesome!!!!!!!!!!! The service there was exceptional!, our waitress Rachel was phenomenal, very knowledgeable and charming. The bartender was incredible but didn't get her name. Can't wait to go back for Steak, Lobster and some mo dancing!!! It's easiest to park in the back, the lounge is right there.

    Okay loving the coasters!!!!

Tastebud perfection from first dish to dessert. Each dish was creative, perfectly balanced, with wonderful textural components. The asparagus was the best asparagus I've ever eaten. The smashed potatoes delightful. The halibut with mousse was perfection. And that galette was amazing. But the dessert? OMG. The strawberry cheesecake with lemon curd and cucumber sauce was wowzers. Spring in dessert form. Thanks to the wonderful chefs and server Amanda for a delightful anniversary dinner. We hope to be back next time we travel to Traverse City.

There were six of us in our group at a table, and you could only hear the person directly next to you. Our group had a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant is small, and the tables are very close together and felt packed in. They do have a small roped off 'patio' area on the side walk with a couple of tables. I thought the service was fine, others in the group felt it was poor (probably because no one could hear her and we had to repeat ourselves). The server did recommend that we share several dishes as a table as they are small plates. We ordered the bread and the three vegetable appetizers to start. Here is where it is hard to review: all of the appetizers were fantastic, interesting and fresh preparations. From the light courses section, we had the bougie corn dog and the duck pasta. I'm not a fan of corn dogs, I thought it was fine, but pretentious and not worth ordering, others liked it. I did like the duck pasta. The mushroom tart was boring, dry, and forgettable (side note that if you are in Detroit, Le Supreme's is absolutely fantastic, so this can be memorable). The other stand out was the walleye main, their use of curry made it an interesting, as well as delicious, dish. We all thought the halibut was awful, it arrived with a fishy smell, but was then somehow flavorless. If we were not all splitting it, it would be a send back dish. Overall, the dishes ranged from flavorful and interesting, to terrible. No member of our group felt they would return, and I would recommend against it due to the noise level, it really was that bad. Every sound echoed off of every hard surface. As a result, it just was not an enjoyable experience.

The ambiance was first-rate: we were seated at a table with a clear view of the waterfront. Service was equal to anything one might expect from a Michelin/starred restaurant: attentive without being intrusive; able to answer most questions or obtain the answer if not known. We had a couple of glasses of wine. The server was helpful in suggesting a glass for each of us that matched our meals well. And speaking of the meals: We shared the cacio y pepe, which was a plentiful (almost too plentiful) serving of romaine lettuce, covered - a bit to excess --with a dressing. The dressing was tasty, but a bit less might have improved the dish. The co-diner got the seafood dumpling appetizer. The soup had a nice broth, and the dumpling was nicely flavored. Unfortunately, it also came with a chile, the heat of which tended to overwhelm the rest of the dish. For our mains, the co-diner got a salmon entree. He thought the salmon selected for the dish was quite a bit "fishier" in taste than the salmon we like to cook at home. The way the salmon was cooked was fine. It would have improved the dish if a better quality of salmon had been used. I ordered the rack of lamb, medium rare. It arrived, and was very rare - so much so that the inner pieces were borderline raw: not what I asked for. The lamb could also have been trimmed a bit, as the fat was clearly visible as a large part of the dish. It came with some nice mushrooms, and a green sauce made from pulverized veggies - very good. For dessert, we shared a piece of spice cake, with tart cherries and mascarpone. Our server also brought us a bonus dessert of a fluffy cheesecake with salted caramel topping, and ginger snaps on the side. Must say, the desserts were the highlight of the meal. All in all, while the front of the house reached a high level, the back of house fell a bit short of what one might expect from a restaurant of that quality.

The restaurant is a house in downtown Traverse City. They only have space for 22 seats, and it was never full during our visit. It is intimate and welcoming. I made a reservation three months ahead, and obtained a seating for 8pm. We were welcomed warmly, and immediately seated. A complimentary mushroom broth "tea" was brought out. My friend who does not like mushrooms even enjoyed it. The service was perfect. Our server understood how to facilitate tasting courses, and the one very small misstep (under down steak for the member of our party that is pregnant, so it was not a being picky situation) was immediately handled without needing to be asked. The wine sommelier did a beautiful pairing. She offered the right level of presentation. Our group of four did the tasting menu. As they are farm to table, and the menu is constantly changing, it is not beneficial to discuss specific menu items. I do want to say the celery soup was representative of the experience, something I would not think to try or sounded amazing but was. My non dessert eating friend loved her dessert, she actually ate the entire cake. Interesting, creative, but not pretentious. A meal to be remembered.

In the meantime, while watching the James Beard Awards, I noticed they were nominated within the same category as one of chef's from our hometown Cincinnati! The place is actually a house, and we were seated right next to the kitchen. Our server, Dillon, was great. We were happy that we both didn't have to order the tasting menu, so I had it, and my wife ordered a la carte (this is the first place we have been to that you can actually order whatever way you would like, nice!) The wine list isn't huge, but it is nice that the glasses are all the same price. As other reviewers said, there is a lot of staff for the 25 seats in the place. We were offered a pickled Amuse Bouche and a mushroom tea that we could have had every day. It was SO good. Here is what we ordered and what we thought; Starter - Smoke whitefish salad- very good and the fish was delicate and fresh. Loved. Gemelli pasta- they were absolutely fine substituting other cheese for the goat cheese, which we don't care for. We had one with blue cheese and one with parmesan. Both were great and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Whitefish with Tom Yum Vinaigrette - first time having whitefish and it was excellent. Flavors on point. Would order again and again. 5 course tasting - Cucumber Buttermilk Soup - light and earthy tasting, and very pretty! Gemelli pasta - see above New York Steak - didn't appear to be a strip. It was chewy and a little gamey. I had to pull gristle out of my mouth a lot. However, the chimichurri sauce was fantastic and the potatoes were buttery deliciousness. Grilled Turnips - unique flavors. I was getting full so I didn't eat all of it. Lemon Posset - perfect ending. Creamy and lovely. We had the pleasure to talk to chef Calvin because we were right next to the kitchen. He specifically talked to us about what cheese we would prefer on the gemelli, and then when I asked where he likes to eat in town, he suggested a few places. He checked in on us regularly throughout our meal, which really made the experience intimate and personal. He also made some browned butter for our excellent bread because we didn't care for the goat butter...nice touch. They are deserving of the kudos and award nominations they receive.
