Loved coming here for some dinner on a recent trip to Traverse City. We were able to join the waitlist online, so had a drink by the water while waiting for our table. Had not only one but two outdoors bars which I loved, with some live music as well. The margarita was great, and really enjoyed the bread and the whitefish dip as appetizers. The seared scallops were really good, I wasn't the biggest fan of the risotto - it was good but seemed almost a bit undercooked. Overall I definitely recommend for some seafood whenever you're out in the area! read more

Food was extremely bland and lackluster. I had the Trout Almondine with asparagus and my wife had Prime Rib and a baked potato. Trout was blah and asparagus was barely cooked and unseasoned. My wife had to send her meal back because the first Prime rib was extremely fatty and baked potato was way overdone. We were excited to try this place on our visit to Traverse City, but would recommend others to steer clear! read more

Ate here years ago and it was outstanding. Fast forward to tonight (7/10/25) and the experience as very disappointing. Host staff were not engaging, barely spoke to us as we entered. Menu options were overpriced for quality and portions. Food was so-so, at best. Too bad. The atmosphere here is great. A fancy woodsy Lodge on a Lake type vibe. Spectacular Water views from their patio, that has accordion doors creating an open feeling. I ordered the ribs, half rack ($22), with baked beans and cole slaw. The ribs were excellent. Cooked perfectly and a very tasty sauce. The baked beans were good, but nothing special. The cole slaw was basically ditto with the beans. The person I was with ordered the Ribeye ($37) and stated it was cooked perfectly and was very decent size. She would get it again. The service was sadly, downright bad. Almost horrible. The staff was uptight and rude. Our waitress seemed to always be in a hurry and didn't listen well. Plus she would disappear for large periods and when she visited another table, wouldn't even look at our table. The person I was with decided she wanted a glass of wine. Since we could get our waitress we flagged down a waiter. People on the room thought he looked like Rick from Pawn Star. However he ended up being very snotty. When asked how Sweet the Red Wine was, he stated theirs no such thing as a Sweet Red. Weird, considering I've bought sweet Reds and read about even more of them. I also overheard him talking to other tables with a I am better than you attitude. Considering both the people we interacted with were some of the worse I've had in a long while, not good. Overall a 2 star Review. Would I return? Probably not! Atmosphere is great. Food is Good to very good, but not special. Service is bad. Just not worth it, when there are over a hundred restaurants in Traverse City to try. read more

That 3% "rising costs" charge at these restaurants should be in reverse now that inflation has gone way down and covid is in the rear view mirror, right? This hurts the waitstaff, because you just made my 20% tip for exemplary service drop to 17%. Was disappointed in seeing that charge on my bill the last time we ate here, and hope that it will not show up on our bill this year as this is our chosen meal place for our 25th anniversary. read more

We've loved this place for years but tonight the food was so mediocre we will not return. Our whitefish tasted fishy so we didn't even eat it. The waitress asked if we wanted s box for it but did not ask if anything was wrong. We didn't mention it. The mandarin oranges on our salad went bad (fermented) so we mentioned it to the waitress and her response was that we should've told her sooner so she could've fixed it. It was a very odd response and had she come by during our meal to ask how it was we could've told her sooner. She didn't apologize or offer any way to compensate for it. The burger was even bad. It was dry and didn't have flavor. My husband got a shrimp cocktail to go and said it was smelly and fishy/old. It's a shame because the ambiance and setting of this restaurant is beautiful. The waiters and waitresses here were awesome and always had drinks supplied for us but it was a little pricey which is understandable. Before we started our trip I found a list of great waterfront restaurants in Michigan and Apache Trout was listed on it. We decided to come here for dinner and had a great experience. They do not take reservations, but once service has started you can put your name on a waiting list that provides you with estimated seating times. This is a great service and worked well, but do not wait too late to get your name on the list because it will also fill up for the evening. We arrived early for our seating time and went out to the back lawn where they had live music and a bar. We got some Old Fashions, which were my least favorite part of the visit, and sat overlooking the water and listening to the music. The view was great and the setting sun provided great lighting on the boats and the clouds out in the distance. Sitting out on the lawn was awesome so arrive early if it is pleasant enough to be outside. When we were seated we were welcomed by our waitress and given the opportunity to review the menu. Warm and delicious bread was served with butter and an olive dipping sauce that I thought was great. We started with an appetizer of the smoked whitefish dip. It was very good and I took the leftovers back to the hotel and put it on a bagel for breakfast, making the hotel breakfast much better than normal. I got the plank-cooked white fish which was served with rice and fresh vegetables. The fish was cooked well and had great flavor. My wife got the French Onion soup which was excellent and had lots of melted cheese on top. We enjoyed Apache Trout Grill for its lakeside location, ambiance, and service that accompanied great fresh food choices. read more

We were told that the wait to be seated time was 30 min. After 1.5 hours we had still not be seated. When we checked in there were 3 parties in front of us. My black napkin was dirty with food debris. We are still waiting for food after being seated for 10 minutes. Yelp rates this restaurant with $$$ the restaurant claims the are $$. Reality is that this place is $$$$. We have been here for 1 hour and 45 minutes still no food or drinks received in 15 minutes. Don't waste your time here. read more

Came here because we saw the 4 star review. Don't know how in the fuck those reviews were real. The trout took so long we thought it was coming straight from the dock outside. Boy were we wrong. It tasted like a flat tire. Be prepared for your ketchup to come out when the checks are delivered. Our waiter, Trey had more attitude than James Charles. Cant believe this is a real restaurant. Another great addition to the group owned by Jeff Lobdell in Michigan.... Great location along the west bay with awesome water views . We happened in on a Saturday with a surf and turf special. We were celebrating so we each went with the 1pound king crab legs. We were not disappointed! Perfectly steamed and cracked for easy access to the sumptuous crab meat. It was sweet , and tender while the veggie side was filled with roasted garlic accompanying the broccoli. The whitefish dip appetizer is warm which is not the norm in Michigan. It was very tasty with our cocktails . Custom cocktails with Traverse City Cherry whiskey topped off a memorable dinner. They are also very Covid conscious. read more

We each had a glass of wine, and ordered the bruschetta, which is the best that we had ever tasted. Carol ordered the bourbon glazed chicken salad and I ordered the French Dip. We have always loved eating at Apache Trout Grill. This visit was the first in several years. The building is lovely and the setting is amazing. We had a wonderful waitperson who was very attentive. The food was the problem. The ciabatta and pesto were disappointing because the pesto was rather tasteless. The bread was wonderful. My husband's dinner was the sea scallops with risotto. For $45 he was given FOUR scallops and a good helping of the risotto. Four??? For $45??? Sheesh. I had the whitefish with shrimp. The sauce was a bit odd. I would rather have had it without sauce, if I had known the sauce was so bland. The whitefish was superb. The risotto was very heavy. Did not like it at all. When we used to come, we would have the whitefish and a baked sweet potato (with maple syrup and pecans!) with side vegetable or ribs. There were no cooked baked potatoes on the menu, sadly. The worst thing was seeing a "surcharge" on our bill. What the heck? Our waiter told us that the surcharge was to cover the difference between the printed menu price of each dish and the actual price we should have been charged. Really???? As lovely as ATG is, we will not be returning. I understand that menus have to change due to changing tastes and younger clientele, but the changes we experienced were not for the better. read more

Excellent customer service and amazing seafood options! This restaurant does not take reservations but the staff made it easy for our group of 10. We visited on a Saturday for dinner so I knew it was going to be difficult to get a table so I called them months in advance in order to find out what we can do. The staff over the phone advised me to call them ahead of time (4:30pm same day if I would like to be seated around 5:15 to 5:30pm) to get ourselves on the wait list, which is what I did. By 5:15pm that day, our table was ready. It was perfect timing for us! The restaurant was bustling but the waitress was calm and checked up on us multiple times. We ordered the walleye and seared scallops and both were delicious. The prices are on the higher end but normal for seafood in a classy restaurant in my opinion. Parking was pretty difficult. We had to park across the street because the parking lot was completely full. Not a big deal but definitely need to allocate some extra time for that next time! Overall, I enjoyed our meal there and would go back next time we visit Traverse City! read more

We loved our experience. You put your name in and then can go hang out at the Tiki bar outside for your table. The amazing view of dozens of sailing boats hanging out off shore in Lake Michigan, is so serene, you really don't mind waiting. Then we went in for dinner, the vibe inside is really nice, they have multiple sections on slightly higher levels, so everyone has a good view of the lake. We started with the smoked whitefish dip, it was the best we've ever had. The consistency was perfect, the flavor was rich, Smokey and the naan dippers were a big hit. Our main course choices were the haddock, the trout and the seafood pasta. We were all happy with our choices. It tasted so fresh and delicately seasoned. We tried each other's food and each one was uniquely seasoned. Our server was Monet, she was really good, I would recommend asking for her by name! She was helpful, skilled at her job, fun, and made great suggestions! You never ran out of drinks and your plates just disappeared. read more
