Our Evaporative Cooler needed servicing so we submitted our request with Fidelity National Home Warranty. They assigned our service request to Anthem Mechanical. The 1st visit out they diagnosed a few issues they thought could be fixed and ordered the parts. Eight days later, parts were installed and they left. Within an hour, the unit was nosier than before, so we called and requested a return visit, which was 3 days later. It was then determined they could not repair the unit and would need to submit request to Fidelity National for approval. Days later we were contacted by Anthem that we had to approve and sign agreement to pay $300 for 2 modifications (low voltage line and water line) the new unit would require. If we didn't agree to charge and provide our credit card number (or other form of payment) they could not proceed to order the unit. We agreed to their terms. Finally, over a week later the unit was in and they scheduled us in. The day of installation we were physically observing the removal and installation of new unit. I personally asked one of the installers (one of the Miguels....they have 4 on staff so not sure which one) was having to modify either the low voltage or water line and he said NO. A friend visiting us at the time who is an experienced electrician was also observing and noticed the worker reattaching some of the wiring incorrectly and asked him some questions. The worker pretty much did not understand English too well and did not know the difference in the numbers for Amps vs. Volts. We asked if they had a supervisor available to consult, so one of the workers called one and told me he would be over in about 30 minutes. An hour later, he called the guy again and then it was going to be another few hours. So, the 2 workers packed up to go to lunch, but never came back. They evidently went back to the office and said we chased them off and they were done with the job. Four hours later I called Anthem and they agreed to send out yet another service tech to finish up. He came out, worked on the unit, but said we needed a new indoor thermostat, which was not in the box, said he would run over to the warehouse and if one could be found he would be back to install it (it is 6:00 Friday afternoon). It was 5 days later we were called by Anthem that the part was in and scheduled to come here the next day. When Miguel came out, he checked out the wiring on the unit and had to spend a lot of time rewiring what had been done earlier (obviously incorrectly).....I personally observed him making the correction. Then he replaced the thermostat without trying the existing one which is exactly the same (I don't think it needed replacing). Unit was then turned on and overall work fine (a little lighter flow of air coming through). This morning I called Fidelity National to discuss our concerns over this whole mess of a job and we wanted to contest the $300 for modifications never done. We were told to call Anthem direct. Finally talked to a service supervisor and tried to explain in detail our concerns, but he constantly talked over me, interrupting many times, and basically called us liars. He said his workers had a whole different story for the course of events, the workers did not like us watching their work (gee....I wonder why?), and they would not refund us the $300. Being treated with such disrespect has led me to write this overly long review. I have suggested to Fidelity National to remove Anthem from their vendors list to do warranty service. Very disappointed in this whole situation. Life should not be this difficult and unpleasant when dealing with service issues. Carol L. read more
