Came here for happy hour! The restaurant was clean and spacious, with plenty of seating. They also have a large outdoor patio. The service was great, and the staff checked on us frequently. We ordered the Hawaiian shrimp ceviche, salmon poke, and brisket rangoons. Everything was super tasty, but the brisket rangoons were the star of the show. It's been several days, and I'm still thinking about them!
Came here for an impromptu happy hour Friday afternoon and discovered such an amazing happy hour menu! The happy hour drinks were so yummy. The standouts were definitely the frozen cocktails cause it's hot as hell here in the summer time. The host was kind enough to let us sit inside with my well behaved pup cause it was supposed to rain. He came by to offer my pup much needed pets and attention. Originally we just wanted the drinks but then we decided to get food as well since it's also on the happy hour menu. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the brisket Rangoon. I highly recommend stopping by for their daily happy hour when your schedule allows.
Came here for date night, and although the restaraunt theme is a bit confusing, the food was yummy and we will be coming back! The service was good, it was just us two in there at the time for dinner as well. There seems to be a bar connected also in their name, which was busy! First of all, this place deceptively large! The interior is nicely decorated and the booths are cool. The bar seats have back, which is always nice. The service was EXCELLENT. My wife and I planned to share two plates because we like trying multiple items when we go out. This may be the first time I've ate at a restaurant where they took it upon themselves to actually split the food and plate both dishes separately. Now THAT'S service. We had the Hapa Hot Chicken and the Sesame Seared Salmon. The chicken was excellent. It came with a nice dipping aoli for the sweet potato fries. Lots of good flavors in that sandwich. We asked for salmon to be cooked medium and it was very tender. I think the noodles were too salty from too much soy sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by Anthem and would stop by again!
First time at Anthem, did not disappoint!! We went on a Sunday, which had ALL DAY happy hour! Score! The menu for happy hour did not skimp out either. We got the salmon poke bowl, charred edamame, shrimp ceviche, and itchy salmon. The itchy salmon, just order it. You may need two or three servings though. It's bite size, but oh so good! The shrimp ceviche was a little bit spicier than anticipated, so beware. We got the banana daiquiri and Magnum PI for drinks, and the banana flavor wasn't too heavy which I was worried about. Both yummy & refreshing. Adding this place to my happy hour list, you should too!
Ambiance and decor is fantastic. We really wanted to love this place. The hostess mentioned they were a bit understaffed, which we appreciated the heads up. We were very excited for our food based on reviews and menu descriptions but unfortunately, everything we ordered was very underwhelming. We ordered the Hawaiian ceviche (not sure what made this Hawaiian..3/5), brisket rangoons (was very odd, ingredients didn't seem to go well together 1/5), and honey sriracha popcorn chicken (best of the 3, but nothing to write home about 4/5). Google and Yelp labeled this place as 'Asian fusion', but wondering if other items would be better.
What a delicious way to end our trip for ACL (Austin City Limits music festival)! I've been eyeing this Asian-fusion restaurant ever since we stayed around Rainey, and finally got a chance to see how it is. The decor alone reminds me of a mix of Mid-century Modern and Hawaiian/Polynesian. It's bright, cozy, and colorful, just like the food. I started with the popular Anthem Smashed Burger and an upgraded side of Furikake Fries. The Burger is quite good, if not a bit dry at first until you get a couple ore bites in and taste the salt & pepper aioli. On the hand, it's nice to have a crunchy, savory burger that's not drenched in sauce and you can actually enjoy the burger patty itself. The Furikake Fries are the star of the show for me, however. They're perfectly fried and seasoned with salt, sesame seed, and the very tasty furikake (Japanese seaweed). It is so delicious by itself, as well as with the Sriracha Ketchup! Sadly, they were having a bit of an issue with their oven so I won't be able to try the Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding, but they took care of me with the Hong Kong Waffle with Vanilla ice cream. There is a lot of components here with the green tea matcha bubble waffle sundae (I chose Vanilla ice cream), topped with Oreo cookie crumbles, Mochi candies, the iconic Pocky Japanese chocolate sticks, and sea salt caramel drizzle. If you have a sweet tooth, this dessert will definitely satisfy your craving!
I happened to stumble upon Anthem by accident when looking for a place to eat for lunch on a Sunday afternoon in downtown Austin. Seating was ample and there wasn't much of a crowd at the time I went, but it seems like it would be a more happening spot on a Friday or Saturday night with it being so close to Sixth Street. For my entrée, I had the beetroot burger which went unpictured, but it was absolutely delicious! I am always appreciative of restaurants that take the initiative to offer substantial vegetarian-friendly options. What I found most intriguing was the Pacific Islander-inspired decor, but also an interesting bulletin in the ladies room. It said that any woman who felt like they were in an uncomfortable situation could ask for an "umbrella cocktail", which notifies the staff that the woman who requested it needs help getting out of an uncomfortable situation. I guess this goes back to being a prime spot for dates or partying near Sixth Street.
The restaurant does not validate parking so expect to spend at least $40 if you park in the garage next door for a 2 hour dinner. Our server was very attentive and gave us good recommendations. We ordered a few things to share and our own entrees. Cauliflower was really good, not too saucy and cooked well. Shrimp ceviche was mediocre. It wasn't limey and overall lacked sauce. It also came with a ridiculous amount of chips for such a small bowl. Two girls got the noodles but mentioned they thought it would have a bed of lettuce but it was actually just shredded lettuce mixed in. I got the smash burger with sweet potato fries. Not the most amazing in ATX but it does the job. I also got a lychee lowdown. It had the lychee flavor and was refreshing. Overall, I would come again but I think only for sharables, do a happy hour with friends, and leave entrees out.
Summary is that We go to Anthem for their Sake shots. This is a place right at the end of Rainy street, very chic ambience inside, and a nice patio to sit out, which was necessary for us because of Mylo. They have a damn good happy hour that goes from 12-7 weekdays and has Sake shots in it. The itchy salmon is amazing and the tofu appetizer was very good too. The Chicken and Waffle main course is a different take on the dish and it might work for some. The presentation is fancy and I liked it but the waffle shape was different than conventional waffle and does not have slot to put syrup in which did not work for me. I will be back for the Sake shots and Anuya will get the IPA at the stay put brewery on the other end of Rainey st because she did not care for the shots much.
Rating: 4.4/5 [dine in] Anthem's Happy Hour is one of the best in Austin. We come here often for their extensive happy hour menu, and it never disappoints. They recently extended their HH hours--now available Monday to Friday from 12-7 PM and all day Sunday. Service can be slow though so expect to wait a bit for your server. Lychee Lowdown ($8 HH): Really good - sweet and strong. EXSW Margarita ($8 HH): Our second go to drink. Magnum P.I. ($8 HH): Tastes a bit off; didn't get much pineapple rum flavor. Peach Fuzzy ($8 HH): Just okay - pretty basic. Frozen Blood Orange Margarita ($8 HH): Better than I expecte, and a great choice for a hot day. Thai Hippie Tofu ($8 HH): Delicious! Crispy, flavorful, and comes with a refreshing cucumber salad. Char-Buff Cauliflower ($12 HH): The tempura cauliflower is amazing--always a must-order appetizer. Crispy and tasty, especially with the Thai Green goddess dressing. JFC Popcorn Chicken ($12 HH): Comes in kung pao or honey Sriracha flavors. My husband got kung pao and asked for honey Sriracha on the side. The chicken is average, but the sauces are what really make it. Miso Mac Daddy ($10 HH): Surprisingly impressive. These mac & cheese balls taste similar to takoyaki--unique and enjoyable. Brisket Rangoons ($9 HH): Brisket was dry, and I couldn't really taste the five-spice--likely overpowered by the cheese. Yummy Fries ($12 HH): One of our favorites! The crispy sweet potato waffle fries are super addicting and full of flavor. Hawaiian Shrimp Ceviche ($14 HH): I don't usually go for ceviche, but this one was tasty and paired well with the tortilla chips. Salmon Poke ($13 HH): The first time we ordered it, the salmon wasn't fresh, but it was better the second time. The nori crisps were indeed crispy and pairs nicely with the poke. Itchy Salmon ($6 HH): Two pieces of baked Atlantic salmon on top of spicy crab mix, topped with Serrano, cilantro, and ponzu. These were just okay and didn't look appetizing either. Hilo Hawaiian Sandwich ($19) + Roasted Cauliflower ($2): Chopped brisket on a King's Hawaiian sweet bun with sesame slaw, French-fried onions, garlic dill pickle chips, kimchi aioli, pickled okra, and your choice of side. It sounded better than it tasted. The brisket was really dry. We thought the cauliflower side would be the same as the Char-Buff Cauliflower, but it wasn't. These were actually charred cauliflower--not tempura.
Came here for a late dinner with my friend before bopping around to some bars in the area and really enjoyed our experience! We split the chips and guac and the honey siracha popcorn chicken and both were so good! I loved the pico that came with the guac and the wings had such a good flavor to them! We also got drinks and the lychee cocktail was so good! Our server was super nice and our food came out pretty quickly. I liked the intimate vibe of the interior of the restaurant. I don't write reviews too often, but The Anthem earned this one. I just got back and wanted to share that from start to finish, this place delivered such a great dining experience. First off, the food- wow. It's not your standard fare. They take bold risks combining flavors and influences from different cultures, and somehow make it all make sense. You'll eat things you didn't even know could go together, and you'll love it. The vibe and atmosphere were a 10/10. The music is diverse, fun, not too loud, not too quiet, perfect for those who have a play list that's all over the place but loves it! The setup feels intentional and welcoming. It's the kind of place you want to post up at for a while. Drinks were delicious and Worth the hype. But the highlight and the real star was Katie at the bar. Honestly, even if everything else had been "meh," Katie would've made the whole night worth it. She's one of those rare people who's genuinely good at their job and also just... a good hang. Down-to-earth, funny, knowledgeable, patient with all our questions, and gave amazing recs (which were on point- and I'm Picky) Katie is the kind of bartender who makes you feel like a regular, even if it's your first time. She's a huge part of why we are already planning to come back and why I'm telling you to check this place out if you haven't yet. The Anthem is lucky to have her, and it shows. Shoutout to the shift manager too (didn't catch his name, but he was also great). Seems like they've built a team that knows how to create not just a meal, but a whole experience. 10/10 would recommend -- and definitely ask for Katie if you can. A mishap happened (both me and my hubby are handicapped). They made us leave because we were early in our reservation. First they stated we can sit in the front to wait. But manager told us we had to leave (due to a private party inside - on the other side where we couldn't even see). So we had to leave and return in 10 minutes. It was difficult to walk since we are handicapped - but that didn't matter. When we came back, waitress apologized to us what happened. We received free drinks and a wonderful appetizer. Manager came and apologized and treated us with care after the incident. Food is extremely good. Was glad we came back (we had to because we were meeting other people) , the visit was good so all worth coming back. read more

The food was incredibly unique and the outdoor patio seating had a great ambiance! We got the Coastal Shrimp & Fries which was the best thing there. The dipping sauce for this was delicious. The Chicken & Waffle dish was really good too but the chicken was a little sweet for my taste. The Hapa Chicken Sandwich was also amazing, no complaints. The Sambal Fried Okra wasn't anything special and was a little oily and soggy. read more

My mai tai came out in a Chinese take out container. Very cute and tasty. Had the brisket wantons for app and they were very cream cheesy and not so much brisket but they were good. My aloha burger with the grilled pineapple was very good. I got the truffle sauce on the side and ditched that in favor of they had 2 other homemade dips... spicy something and a ranch.. Oli would ask for those. The sweet potato waffle fries were a little too skinny so seemed a little well done. Good taste though. read more

Nice Tiki atmosphere. The Tropical fusion menu has a wide range of options including some Veggie/Vegan. We had a variety of dishes. The char char cauliflower and Coastal shrimp were big hits and the tastiest of the bunch. The Cure sampler appetizer plate was equally delicious. Food is well prepared, tasty and the service is friendly and helpful. Also have a wide selection of cocktails that are unique and tasty. read more
100% of my visits here have been at the bar and the same % was enjoying the local "512." Food is always good. Appys and mains. Bar service is the same as the food. Always. Can't go wrong on Rainey, but I'll miss the character now in favor of condos and or apartments. Progress. Eh. read more

The drinks here are amazing. We sampled four different cocktails and they were all delicious, with no disappointments. Unlike other places, they're not overloaded with crushed ice. Our server, Martin, was super friendly and attentive. After asking a few questions about our preferences, he was able to recommend the perfect options, and all his suggestions were spot on. The restaurant has a chill Hawaiian/Tiki-inspired vibe, with contemporary dance/techno music playing at a comfortable volume. The food was absolutely delicious and filling. The portions are generous, and they let you split dishes so you and a dining companion can sample a variety of items. Overall, I loved everything about this place and I plan to return soon. read more
Anthem was such a cute little spot in Austin. The decorations were colorful and vibrant. I enjoyed the small plates style so it makes sharing with friends really easy. The salmon poke was my favorite! It isn't your typical poke bowl (it didn't come with rice), but I thoroughly enjoyed it. read more

Such a fun restaurant to visit while in Austin! They have great drinks and a good variety of food. We made reservations online for a party of 7 a few weeks ahead of time. The restaurant didn't look too busy for a Saturday night though. The dishes were easily shareable items and we all enjoyed the food. Flavors were tasty and the ambiance was trendy and fun. Or waitress was very kind and tentative to our table. The manager even came by to check on us too. I highly recommend to grab dinner here before you start exploring rainy street. read more

Anthem is the ultimate fusion restaurant, it's "Tex-Asian" food and I never thought of these two together, but Anthem makes it work well. And it looks like a tiki bar, lots of really cute decor and the server and bartenders are fun and friendly. The portions are perfect for sharing. Especially after looking over the menu, you'll want to try everything. The Bartender Heaven was cool and she gave us great recommendations. We enjoyed the Miso Mac Daddy- Pablo deep friend Mac and cheese ball. Not your typical Mac and cheese flavor, and the crunchy outside, goes well with the cheesy-ness inside. We also enjoyed the honey sriracha popcorn chicken, which were crispy and juicy. And the roasted cauliflower set everything off- tender and packed with flavor they almost tasted like meat. We also got small side of queso to dip the cauliflower in (yum). I plan on making a stop at Anthem anytime I'm on Austin. read more

I was really excited to go this restaurant because the tiki, tropical vibe is so me. Not only was the interior adorable and beautiful, but the service and food was just as incredible ! My friends and I went in at 9:00pm and we knew they closed at 10:00. No one ever made us feel like we needed to rush or get out as soon as possible. They encouraged us to just enjoy and order whatever we wanted . Our server was awesome! He attentive and had great recommendations. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. The salmon poke (my personal favorite, amazing!!), cauliflower ( I don't even like vegetables but this was really good), Brisket Rangoon (better than crab Rangoon) and miso Mac daddy (there's nothing to not like about fried mac & cheese). Every single item and every single bite of was pure deliciousness and me and my girlfriends could not have been happier, choosing this as one of our last meals in Austin before we went home. The drinks were fun and tasty. And , if you get the Mai tai, it might come in the cutest glass with the perfect garnishes I have ever had . I don't think you could go wrong with any drink though, as my friends were tasty too. If you don't know , just ask your server , they don't steer you wrong. I can't wait to come back to Austin and come back. It will never be passed up on Austin trip for me. read more
Situated at the top of Rainey street, this is a stop you don't want to miss. There are several spaces to fit your preference, AND you can have a conversation in any of the spaces yet still enjoy the background music. Fun and peaceful. We chose the patio - swinging egg chairs, my husband could not resist ;). The food and drink were excellent: the bar, kitchen, and server did a fabulous job with communicating and customizing.... We were greeted by an amazing server. He was knowledgeable and fun. I'm sorry that I've forgotten his name :( When I asked about the drinks (they have a great selection), he asked what type of spirit I was in the mood for... Knowledgeable! I chose rum and he suggested a banana daiquiri (he assured me it was not laffy-taffy banana) and then asked if I like peanut butter, since I do he he suggested adding a peanut butter liqueur shot as a floater... Genius! We ordered the chips and guac-the ginger and yuzu were subtle additions and a delicious twist to this Texas staple. We like spice, but do not like burning hot, so we got the guac minus the jalapeños and asked for the pico on the side (it is marinated in pineapple juice, so I wanted to taste the flavor difference). Awesome. I couldn't eat much of the pico, (again a bit hot for me) but the pineapple was a nice note in the flavor. A big thank you to Brian and his team at Anthem, what a great place! read more

Food was delicious. The fried cauliflower was BOMB. The salmon dish was so flavorful. Blood orange margarita was so nice. Definitely try it. (Be careful with parking across the street. It's expensive and they WILL send you a ticket if you are there too long. read more

I loved the service, vibe, & food! 10/10 recommend!!!! They treated us amazing while we were there and very good at taking care of allergy precautions. Would recommend Anthem to anyone looking for delicious food and a casual dining experience. One of my favorite items on the menu were the Yummy Fries, which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and loaded with sauce and toppings (spicy aioli, truffle yuzu & miso aioli, sweet soy sauce, furikake, scallion, pickled ginger, sesame seeds, bonito, kizami nori). The honey sriracha fried chicken with Hong Kong waffle was also a memorable dish, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. It did have a kick to it. The roasted cauliflower was as expected, with just the right amount of Thai green goodness dressing. The service was great as well. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, would be back the next time I'm in the area. read more

Fun spot to come to a large group! The restaurant is spacious and has a bar space as well. The food is asian inspired / asian fusion. All the apps were delicious - fries, ceviche, mac daddy. I do not recommend getting the salad here. It was soo salty. Other than that, everything was good. The waitress was polite and food came out quickly. read more

Pleasantly surprised since I found it on the spot. I had a work lunch here and was impressed with the excellent and expedited service. Located at the start of Rainey Street, the place is tiny, cozy and has really amazing decor and loud color that I love. Did not get to try any of the cocktails since I was there for lunch. Looks like they have a list of mocktails as well. I was very happy with everything that my group ordered but I was most impressed with the cauliflower, which did not make it to photos because that's how good it was. Ask for extra Green goddess dressing on the side and you will not be disappointed. I'm eager to go back and try two other dishes that I was considering today, as well as getting more of the cauliflower. This is certainly a place I will be frequenting when I am downtown. We booked a table for a group of 8 people for a friend's birthday. The reservation process was absolutely seamless and easy. We just called and reserved. The place is also kid and baby friendly. The cocktails are pretty great. We had a bunch of cocktails including Piña Old Fashioned. All of them were very good. Food was also good including the starters such as JFC Popcorn Chicken and Charbuff Cauliflower. The main problem was the service wait time - we came on a Monday at 6:30 pm, specifically because a couple of us had a baby who needed to be in bed by 8:30. Even after ordering all of our food by 7pm, we got our food no earlier than 8 pm, and couple of us just had time to pack up their food and leave. We just ate whatever we got in the end and also left. Apart from that, the table service was good and there were no issues with the waiting service. read more

Anthem is an absolutely gorgeous restaurant with the friendliest staff. I love the unique type of food that you can only get here, and overall, it's just a wonderful dining experience. Our server was very helpful and gave us many good recommendations. When I'm back in town, I'll be sure to come here again My favorite was the Miso Mac Daddy. These mac & cheese balls were fried to perfection and the best toppings to go along with them. I liked the addition of the sweet soy sauce and spicy aioli to provide some more creaminess and extra flavors, but I think it could've gone without the ginger. I like how the ginger provided brightness to the plate, however, I felt like it would've been better without because of its strong flavor. read more
I may have inadvertently found my new favorite FryDay hot spot. It turns out that almost all of the vegan options at Anthem are deep fried. Right off the bat, I'm in love with the vintage yet contemporary decor, with a cozy yet glamorous ambiance. Nestled into one of those plush booths, it's hard to resist the well curated cocktail program, which is where those crispy morsels come in handy. Hippie Thai Tofu is your best bet for protein, with a rich peanut sauce. Char-Buff Cauliflower might just be the best take on the concept I've had all year, beer battered and served with an incredibly umami Thai green goddess dressing that I could drink like soup. Fried Okra, offered as a side, is worth snacking on solo. This one definitely just counts as a serving of vegetables, right? It's all about balance. I can't imagine a better happy hour than that. read more
I really enjoyed eating at Anthem! My wife and I were staying down the street and one night took a walk, vibing with the night life that shows up on Rainey street. We saw Anthem and decided to give it a try, so glad we did! The food was great, almost as good as the conversation. We sat in the outside porch area and the weather was perfect with a slight breeze. The down side of sitting outside was of course the environment noise, which was expected. Then there was a honey bee that decided to bug us throughout the meal , pun intended. I recommend trying Anthem. read more

This place has such good options for food, everything we tried was delicious. We also got some different drinks including the lychee cocktail (not pictured) which was deliciousssss! Came here for dinner and really enjoyed it! There were a bunch of people (I think because there was a conference happening right around the corner) but we were seated pretty quickly (right next to this amazing print of Tom Selleck might I add!) and our waiter was great! We ordered a few small plates to share and it was plenty of food for two: - charred edamame, salted - this was a big portion, I personally love edamame so I loved it, just be prepared to wash the charcoal and salt off your hands at the end haha - Hawaiian shrimp ceviche - this was the only dish I really didn't like because it wasn't ceviche by any stretch of the imagination, it was essentially chunky shrimp dip... not terrible tasting, but not what I was hoping for and not great tasting either - JFC popcorn chicken, honey sriracha - big chunks of chicken in honey sriracha sauce with some sort of ranch dipping sauce, can't go wrong with that! - yummy fries - this was my favorite.. a La Joey from Friends... Sweet potato fries, good! Spicy aioli, good! Furikake, good! Truffle yuzu, even though I'm not totally sure what this sauce is, good! You get the picture For drinks my boyfriend got the frozen banana daiquiri and LOVED it to the point that we got one to go and then had to go back the next day just to get this drink.. I personally think banana flavored things are disgusting but if you're into it, apparently this is worth repeat trips! I got the piña old fashioned with whiskey which just tasted like straight Fireball to me so wasn't worth it, but it's not bad either! read more

Is the whole menu super fatty & deep fried? Any lighter options at all?
There are a few lighter options. I personally love the Nam Nom Noodle Salad and the Cucumber Sunomono. If noodles are still too heavy, they have another salad option. Edamame, Ceviche, and Hummus are also possibilities.

Yes! It would be my top recommendation in town!

Unfortunately, no - the Camden parking garage is managed by a third party company that has hourly parking with prices that vary depending on the day. Street parking on Rainey is fairly cheap, and free on Sundays.

"Allowed" - probably. But it's not a kid friendly place... loud music, fragile dishes, open flame, no kids menu or high chairs or changing tables.…
Is it a good location for a group dinner?
They have the seating to accommodate large groups but the music can be REALLY loud.
Can you make reservations online or do I have to call?
There is a reservation system through their website, but you can always call during their open hours to set one up with the host!
