This is one of those places that has both equally strong pros and cons that it always becomes a debatable should we go or not discussion. The pros: Great breakfast food - their city grits and biscuits and gravy options are so good and filling. Dog-friendly - dogs are allowed on the outside patio. Its one of the only places besides Starbucks on that area that allow dogs. Good Coffee - I don't drink coffee but have heard many times its enjoyable. The cons: The service - unfortunately they are known just as well for their poor service as they are about their delicious food. The service is consistently under par and it feels like most of the servers are either hungover or in a daze and have no sense of timeliness. Such a bummer because it really is a great place besides the lack of service. Adult beverages - Not that great or worth it especially the bloody mary. Crowded - You need to either get there early in the morning or after the breakfast rush. On the weekends there is usually a long line out the door but they are not that great at managing the lines. Received wonderful, attentive and speedy service! However, the food was just okay. The fried green tomatoes were a bit soggy, but the crab cakes were better. Our party had a great experience here after our run. Yelp said there was a 0 minute wait, but that wasn't the case when we arrived. The hostess did apologize, and worked with us. I ordered their Eggs Benedict & fruit salad. I loved that the fruit salad included pomegranate & kiwi. I tried their spiked coffee and it was pretty good too. read more

This place is worse than a Disneyland ride where you not only wait almost an hour to get in but you also wait another 45 minutes to get served your food. The food was not worth the wait at all. We came for brunch which was close to noon and they already ran out of some of the items we ordered. Forget the beignets . It is literally nothing but fried oil. I also ordered some iced coffee and when I asked if there was more than one size the server was nice enough to say she would put in a bigger cup. She did not however say that she was going to charge me twice the amount of regular coffee. She also did not remember to remove the tomato which we specifically said not to be included. I discovered this place in my search for all things beignet, lobster, and crab in Jacksonville. Because I love beignets, lobster, and crab. From perusing their online menu I saw that they had biscuit beignets, omelettes with crab and lobster included, and other such options that were just all around appealing. And like any place you know is going to be delicious, they were only open for breakfast, brunch, and early lunch: that 7 am - 2 pm life. Time to wait for seating was honestly what was expected of a place like this. It was packed and plenty of groups were waiting for a seat, about 30 minutes to an hour. And looking around at the tables outside and the food people had ordered only made you hungrier. Once my friend and I were finally seated (after a slight name mix up), we made a beeline for the drinks choices. Originally I had only gotten a cup of coffee - which was an adequate cup of coffee, you add your own cream and sugar - but my will was weak and I ordered a peach Bellini as well. Best start to the mid afternoon anyone could ask for. It was bubbly, it was peachy, and the alcohol was well concealed. Truly refreshing. Just how I like it. It took me a while to decide in an omelette because I am well and truly selective about things I don't eat. I love pretty much all food. Save for most dairy and Mexican. Finding an omelette without cheese was near impossible. I'm pretty sure all of them came with cream cheese - I love cream cheese - and some other form of cheese - not a fan....unless it's mozzarella. I decided on The Floridian: cream cheese, crab meat, Monterrey jack, and green onions. Sans the Monterey Jack. (You can get egg whites for an up charge). I love a good plate of country potatoes so I got those in place of the Mediterranean potatoes. The crab meat and cream cheese was combined on top of the omelette and I don't regret a single bite. I don't regret a bite of that whole meal, not even the green onions which I don't like and could have requested off but I didn't. They have the little packets of jam on the table as well and I was beyond thrilled to see they had blackberry (my favorite!) which I spread on my English muffin instead of my he Butter that came along with it. My husband and I stop by for bunch on a busy Saturday morning after hearing lots about this place. The staff was incredibly disinterested in what they were doing. Bring out the wrong food at first and then serving it the correct food cold really put a damper on the mood. Great food but awful customer service, specifically at the host stand. The tattooed hostess is extremely rude and will take her wrath out on your seating availability. I checked in to ask how much longer our wait would be, and she snappily let me know it would be a little longer. I said that was fine and waited outside. We got a text saying our table was ready and when we came inside she said our outside table was ready when I had asked for inside only. With a hungry toddler I said we would just take that table. The table ended up being in the very corner of the patio, extremely cramped and next to the garbage pail. Could barely hear each other talk over the clanking of dishes being thrown in there every few minutes. "Great looking menu, poor execution" The setting: Nice looking cafe feel with a cozy patio area. We sat on the patio and it was nice. Service: Friendly, prompt and helpful staff. No complaints here. --Food-- Lobster & Brie Omelet: This sizable omelet came smothered with lobster and Brie slices with a buttery garlic white wine sauce. The omelet was stuffed with cream cheese. The lobster and Brie tasted fine but the actual omelet was kinda hard, and I wasn't digging all the cream cheese inside it. That part was just kinda yucky to me. On the side there was basic cubes homefries. I also ordered a side of bacon which wasn't crispy and juicy like homemade bacon. Peach Cobbler Pancakes: Again, the peach cobbler aspect tasted good but the pancakes weren't fluffy. They were very average pancakes. Bloody Mary's: I ordered a Smokey Sriracha and a Tomatillo Bloody Mary. The Tomatillo tasted good and was interesting except for the large amount of pulpy slop at the bottom of the glass (Ewww). First time coming here there are some ups and downs to a very popular breakfast/brunch place such as here. To start off the hospitality is immaculate. Very welcoming, customer service is on point and very precise as to wait times. Though our wait wasn't very short by far if your smart and add yourself to the wait list on "yelp" it can pass a lot of time and get u ahead of the rush of people coming to enjoy the cuisine. We waited roughly 30 minutes after arriving for our seat (it was really busy around 1150-1230). Once seated we were greeted with a warming smile from our waitress Lakel who was knowledgeable of the menu and helpful in figuring out what to eat there was also a complimentary plate of beignets for being first timers. The food was definitely what i was hoping it would be. Very authentic and flavorful. The Mardi Gras Omelette included andouille and shrimp and unbeatable combo. The shrimp and grits had a nice kick of spice to it which made them irresistible by far. The City Grits are simple yet satisfying to be Gouda infused. Good food, awful service. I did call ahead seating through Yelp and got to the restaurant with plenty of time. I was told that I would be seated soon but 20 minutes and 3 tables later I was still waiting. When I asked the hostess, she checked the computer and told me it was "glitchy" and they lost my name. The f? I should also mention that at least 3 tables were open and un-bussed for at least 15 minutes. When I was finally seated, my waitress maybe checked on me once. It took foreverrrr just to get someone's attention and I placed my drink and food order at once. The food was decent, but the service was awful and rude. I won't return. read more

We have mixed feelings about this place. First, we loved our waitress. She was awesome. Great service, she checked in on us a lot, filling sodas and giving us updates on our orders. We waited over an hour and a half. When we left our house, we signed up for the No Wait App's waitlist which was a plus. Really glad we had that option or our in person would've been closer to 2 hours. We wanted to wait for a table together for 6 inside. It was humid outside. Smaller parties willing to sit outside were seated faster. The food...we loved the City Grits. It was tasty and different. We also loved our half order of beignets. My nephew enjoyed his kids cheeseburger. My older nephew ordered from the adult menu...he ordered the cinnamon bun French toast which were a little dry. He didn't like them and one of us wanted to finish it. He chose the homemade turkey patties which the adults loved due to the herbs. The four adults shared three dishes and glad we did. There were a lot of heavy dishes. We were disappointed they were out of fried green tomatoes. So we ordered the crab cake Benedict. There's just one crab cake. It was delicious and so were the country potatoes. We ordered the Crawfish skillet which was ok. Not enough seasoning and it really needed a sauce. It was dry. We also shared the chicken biscuit with sausage gravy. It was good but we wouldn't order it again. We liked some of the food but probably wouldn't go again on a weekend due to the long wait. Had 2 completely different experiences here with a few different places... one on south side blvd Florida was terrible...we were ignored as we waited by the front podium, waiting to be seated, with no welcome (even though there was a hostess who ignored us) finally after 15-20 minutes a very nasty waitress came over just said follow me and walked away from us- we followed her to a table in the middle of the dinning area and asked if we could sit at a booth the waitress rolled her eyes and walked away from us throwing the menus on the table & walking away without a word..we walked out! I like the I was able to get on the waitlist using Yelp. However, when I checked in I told them I was a party of one, no one told me I could sit at the Bar right away. They just said we will call you. While I waited I seen people just walk in and go to bar and eat. I finally was seated outside, and waited 20 min before a waitress even came up to table to ask what I would like to drink. When my food did arrive it was not correct same issues the big parties were having. I will say the food was good, the orange juice was way over priced. $4.00 for a small cup. My friends and family have always been a fan of this place. Friendly staff for the most part. Until today, for Saturday brunch. We knew it would be busy because it's a weekend and it was a beautiful day. We joined the waitlist as expected and didn't have to wait more than 40 minutes (the app was saying 60-75). We ate pretty fast, and only had our mimosa (ONE) left- about half a glass. Server brought the check without asking, that's fine. She said no rush. Made our payment signed the receipts. Not even FIVE minutes go by, both of us still holding the freakin mimosa glass, another server (didn't see her name tag but she had her hair in a bun with one random braid strand hanging out). Comes to our table and says "so was everything good?" We said yes. She replies "well I noticed you guys are sitting here and are done." Excuse me?? Then she walks away after stating that???? Me and my friend were shocked because clearly we were still finishing up and thought we ate pretty fast and weren't taking our time. After this we stayed at our table to finish our drinks for another 10ish minutes and the entire time, the same ONE girl kept walking by the window and STARING!!! What!!!! Will never be going back. Metro diner used to be the premier breakfast spot to me, but another broken egg Café has raise the bar. I would put their bacon up against anybody in the city. First, the "No Wait" function doesn't quite work. We checked as we were getting out of the car and it showed Zero wait time. When we got up to the hostess stand, we had a 20 minute wait. The table where we were sat shouldn't be a table. It was on the patio, shoved between two walls, with a window looking at another table inside and a server station right next to it. The server station was used to hold coffee carafes, extra items, and the most fun part, buckets of dirty dishes. Servers and bus boys were constantly and loudly depositing dirty dishes basically right next to me. That table should be removed and the server station should be placed there instead, since the station was also right next to a door where servers were constantly in and out and people getting hit by the door while at the server station. Ok, so next up is the service. Our server was very nice. But we couldn't hear her. She was kind enough to bring free beignets since it was our first visit, however we were given 4 beignets for 5 people and only 2 plates. Our food got to our table quickly (and was accurate) but the server neglected to check on us even once. We finished our meals before she came back and most of us never got more than one drink. It would have been nice to get one or two of the drink orders taken off the check because of that. There was a manger of sorts walking around asking all of the tables how everything was. Somehow we got missed. Maybe because we were stuck in the corner. Had she come over at some point I would have been more than happy to point this things out. Hope she reads this. Our wait was 20 min - as we waited they offer us some nice , hot coffee. My daughter was eating a cucumber and the hostess were super welcoming in talking with her and making her smile. Our Server Maureen was amazing. She was attentive but not anoying. She was patient as i asked questions about certain dishes. She did not overwhelm us with checking up on us.
