New place and heard it was good; it didn't disappoint! It is clean and nicely decorated and a patio area, as well. The breakfast/brunch menu has fun things like Strawberry Pound Cake French Toast and Shrimp and Grits. My husband loves grits so he got those w/the Southwest Scrambler, which was spicy, as he likes and the grits were a hit! My egg and Paul Bunyan sized biscuit were crazy good. Other places have either fried scrambled eggs or made them so mushy :(. These were perfect, fluffy and so tasty! The biscuit tasted homemade. Our server was also great and attentive. We really wanted to love this place but there were just a number of things that resulted in this 'it's just okay' review and rating. We did the online check-in to get on the waiting list before arriving but that didn't seem to do much in terms of reducing our wait. It said 25 minutes and we got there about 15 minutes later, checked in with the front desk to let them know we were there and it was another 30 minutes from that point. But we were patient and waited, just to be called in and taken to a small table for four with a chair on the end. This was definitely not going to work for our party of 5 so we decided to wait for an appropriate sized table. That was another 15 minutes, but again, we were patient. Once seated we were excited and I will say that our server was amazing; very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food, however, was disappointing and definitely not worth the wait. Not too bad for breakfast. They have a New Orleans theme. Waited about 30 minutes for a table of two. The first place they seated us was this tiny ass table right by the kitchen door. Dreadful place for a table. We immediately requested a different table. Who wants to sit literally in front of the kitchen door? After some hemming and hawing the hostess gave us another table. I noticed that the next people she tried to sit there immediately asked to be moved also. Note to management. Nobody wants to sit in front of the kitchen door.. Anyways on to the food. We started with the biscuit beignets. They were more biscuit-like then beignets. Crunchy would be the word I would use. The fig honey sauce that came with them was delicious. For breakfast I had the crab cake benedict breakfast. It was good. The crab cake was served on a toasted English biscuit that needed to be toasted more. It's rubbery consistency made it hard to cut the crab cake. The hollandaise sauce had some andouille sausage mixed into it. Tasty. The side of potatoes that came with it were awesome! My wife had a basic eggs benedict. She liked it. Coffee was very good too. Wife wanted English Breakfast tea but they only had Earl Grey. read more

We've visited the greater Phoenix area numerous times but this is our first time exploring the Gilbert-Mesa area. We always like checking out places we can't get at home so we tried this place. So glad we did! First of all, they have adorable coffee mugs. This is not something I normally pay attention to but these were sturdy and cute. Our waitress told us they're custom-made in MI and you can buy them if you want. This cafe looks new and is very clean. The menu is extensive with both traditional options as well as interesting specialities. I got the Hash Brown Benedict and chose City Grits as my side. It was delicious. Please note this is not a diet dish! It was big enough for two....I did eat a good bit of it but my hubby nibbled off my plate as well. He got the Chicken and Waffles. He loved it and said the chipotle maple syrup was the perfect complement. His portion seemed a little bit smaller than mine but he did help himself to my plate so we were both completely stuffed when we were done. Service was friendly and efficient. Pretty good little place. Lots of unique items on the menu. I ordered the goat cheese omelette with fruit and son had the chocolate chip pancakes. Everything was pretty tasty except the pancakes were more dense than I would like. Light fluffy pancakes are the best and these were dry and thick on the palate. We loved this place! The food looked fresh (not greasy) like typical breakfast spots. I had the veggie omelet and was so happy it had goat cheese in it! Came with several pieces of sourdough bread and potatoes. My husband said his eggs were cooked perfectly. This was the first time going, and I went with my two sons, hoping we would have a wonderful breakfast experience as my older son is leaving for the military next week and my younger son is graduating. I figured this would be a nice start to a day out. We waited half an hour to get seated, which wasn't too bad. The restaurant was extremely loud, which was fine but not the expected ambience. Once we were seated, we were able to get beverages right away. I ordered a breakfast cocktail, I believe it was a strawberry Mimosa... it was not very good and was $12. It just tasted like one of those red punch flavored alcohol drinks you get in a can. I've tried those before and they're awful. My sons told me to chug it. Definitely not worth the high price. The menu was interesting, but very pricey. We purchased two sodas, a cup of coffee, the cocktail and three breakfast entrees we spent nearly $79 not including tip. We definitely did not get the most expensive things on the menu. We were pretty basic my sons ordered the country Power bowl and a southwestern omelette. I ordered the bacon omelette with cream cheese. I can't remember what it was called. Nothing too out of the ordinary or fancy. We waited about 45 minutes to get our food. The food wasn't amazing. I left a decent tip because it's not the waitresses fault but we will not be going back again. Very disappointed. read more

I kinda feel like everything was wrong at this place. The wait took about 40 mins. No biggie. Was a weekend and breakfast time. We did almost walked out, though, when we were in the bathroom and an employee walked out of the stall and straight out the door! Didn't even bother to wash her hands. Ugh! I decided if she ended up being our server, I'd walk out then. Who does that anymore though?? You work here. You know everyone's looking at you. Anyway, we were sat and fortunately that server was not ours. Phew! After ordering our food did take longer than our wait to sit down. About an hour to get it and when it came out, it wasn't even worth the wait. The presentation was lacking and the small portions were ice cold. My dish was so covered in garnish, that i couldn't even find the Benedict portion underneath. My daughter's breakfast also failed to impress her. To say the least, we wouldn't go back again. Our first visit here wasn't that great but it was when they first opened and working out the bugs. We have returned for a second, third and fourth visit and now We can recommend this restaurant. The ambience is good and quality of food is great although the price is a little steep. We enjoyed our time here the last couple of visits. Keep up the good work. I was so hopeful for this place after seeing the pictures and reviews, and seeing how long the wait was. Honestly, I feel like I'm missing something or just went on the wrong morning. My friend and I were meeting up for breakfast, I called ahead and they told me the wait was about 15-20 mins, and I either had to be there or go online to get on the waitlist. I went online, got the confirmation, showed up max 10mins later, and proceeded to wait for over 45mins. I checked in again and asked how long, and they told me maybe another 20mins because I was #4 on the list (what I saw looked like #2, but ok...). So, standing and waiting some more, what seemed liked the manager finally came out, then sat us outside on the freezing patio (no sun). There was only one other family out there, which I should've taken as a sign, but we were so hungry we just went with it. But then... why did they even take us there after waiting for an hour? You'd think we had earned the right to be warm while eating. I ordered a cup of hot water and used that to keep from freezing. Now the food... my friend ordered the (stuffed) berry medley waffle. It was not stuffed, just blueberries in the batter, and it was sparse in the berries. I was so happy I didn't order it. I thought I was getting a house special by ordering the Broken Egg Chicken Sandwich. When it arrived I was confused if I should've been putting it together as a sandwich, eating separate bites, or what. I was underwhelmed by the presentation/plating and the flavor on this dish. The chicken texture seemed off, and even with the sauce was quite flavorless. The biscuit was not something you feel like would be approved by a southerner or your grandma. The egg was somewhere between over easy and poached. Basically... if I hadn't had the Cholula to douse this with, I really wouldn't have eaten even half of it. This is a pretty decent breakfast spot in Gilbert. They make their sausage in house and it's really good! Their strawberry mimosas are amazing!! The theme seems to be southern/Cajun. I recently moved from south Mississippi and this place reminds me of the breakfast we used to get while we lived there. Our meals were very good, but very pricey ... $60 for 2 after tax and tip. I ordered the salmon Benedict with city grits and my husband ordered the crab cake Benedict with creamy grits. Again, both were tasty but we probably wouldn't come back here unless it was a special occasion due to the $$$. One warning ... my husband is a pescatarian and his dish had ham in it (he had already eaten it so it was too late unfortunately) he did not see on the menu where it indicated ham in the dish . So if you have a restricted diet make sure to ask your server about ingredient specifications. We went mid afternoon on a weekday so our wait was not terrible and our food came out quickly. Our server was friendly and accommodating. Four stars because of the high price and the unfortunate ham that made it into my husbands meal. read more

Checked in at 10:00am and didn't get seated till 11:45am at separate tables on opposite sides of the room. Food was immediately ordered when we were sat and the table was literally served at 12:40pm except for two of us who were finally served at 12:55pm. The website and menu shows Bloody Mary's for brunch however they do not have their liquor license and so not available. Food was extremely bland and disappointing. The servers were very sweet and apologetic however the manager was clearly out of his depth and has no idea how to run restaurant. He was running around lost like a chicken with egg on his face literally like the restaurant logo represents. After the final two plates were delivered he finally came over to tell us the "least he could do was take 50% off the check" and he was correct. That was certainly the very least and far too little, and much too late. I am not one to write a negative review because I know small business are struggling right now however that was the worst experience in customer service regarding a manager ever. It's unfortunate that the servers have to work 10 times as hard because of the poor management skills. Best to go somewhere else if the goal is to eat. Hopefully they get a new manager and save the business but as it stands now definitely not worth your time or your money. read more

We just love this place. We started coming (on average) once or twice a month. We always ask to sit in Rommel's section, but Berkeley is great too. We love Andrew, the most gentle and attentive manager. We will protect him at all costs. The lobster hash is worth stabbing someone in the leg for. Between the food and service the whole experience was poor at best. When you're spending $30/person for food, drinks, and a tip you'd expect warm pancakes and properly cooked Benedicts but this was not the case. I've been here twice now hoping the first time (chicken and waffles) was just a once in a while bad experience but nope. My family and I will not be wasting time and money here again. The waiting staff is also painstakingly slow and they are always overstaffed with waiters/waitresses sitting around all over the place or messing around in the bathroom. read more

Just don't sit by the tall top tables by bar bc the fans are on blast and our food gets cold fast and napkins go flying.
