We've been loyal patrons of Annadale Terrace for years, but unfortunately, the experiences have declined so much that I felt compelled to share our most recent visit--which will be our last. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken cutlet (dressing on the side), and my friend ordered the chicken salad sandwich. My friend immediately noted that the chicken salad was overly salty and had an overpowering onion taste. She didn't complain--just quietly set it aside and didn't even mention it. As for my dish, I had about three slices of the chicken before realizing it tasted off--like it had been cooked in old oil or was leftover and reheated. Then I noticed the lettuce was soggy. When I moved it around, I saw a pool of water at the bottom of the bowl. It was clear the lettuce had been rinsed but not drained--at all. I showed our waitress, who casually said, "They probably didn't rinse it well enough." What made things worse was the price--$30 for a soggy salad and subpar chicken. We spoke with another waitress, who had it 'reduced' $9, which still felt excessive given the quality. I then waited nearly 20 minutes to speak with a manager. When a young woman finally approached, her attitude was immediately defensive. She questioned my reaction, even asking, "Why are you looking at me like I have five heads?"--in front of other guests. She was literally gaslighting me blaming me for my bad food experience. I admit, that was probably the look on my face.... dumbfounded that someone was speaking to me like that... She accused me of overdressing the salad (I hadn't used any dressing at all) and claimed our original waitress had offered me something else (she didn't). The manager refused a full refund because I had eaten part of the chicken and a few bites of lettuce--despite the dish being genuinely unappetizing. I was asking myself in the moment if this was really happening.... Over the past few years, our takeout orders have often been wrong, and the food has consistently been overly salty or just mediocre. We never made a fuss. Once, we received pita bread with a bite taken out of it--the owner denied it was teeth marks. Another time, my friend was served a completely burned burger. Still, we let it go. But this time, being treated with rudeness and condescension when I finally voiced a legitimate concern was unacceptable. As someone with 15 years of restaurant experience, I understand things happen--but hospitality and accountability matter. Sadly, Annadale Terrace no longer reflects the service, quality, or professionalism it once did. I've dined at Annadale Terrace for over 12 years and had more than 400 meals between myself, friends, and family. Do the math on how much we've spent over the years. We dined in/take out 3-4 times per month- do the math. Never--not once--have I asked for anything to be taken off the bill. So to suggest that I suddenly had an issue just to get a "free meal" is not only insulting, it's ridiculous. The lettuce was waterlogged and wilted and I pushed the lettuce to the sides of the bowl so I could see how much water was there. The chicken tasted off too--facts I pointed out to a second waitress who knows us, who actually came over to inquire, and has waited on us many times. She saw the dish herself and I took pictures of it. Instead of accountability or a sincere apology, your manager chose to gaslight me in front of other guests going so far as to say, "Why are you looking at me like I have five heads?" That wasn't service--it was condescension. To be clear, this was the one time I shouldn't have had to pay for a salad I didn't eat. No one offered me an alternative dish, and we waited an excessive amount of time for someone--anyone--to respond or come to the table. The manager never approached us at our table. Yes, $9 was removed from the bill--but without an apology or explanation, it felt dismissive and transactional. The waitress came back and dumped it on our table. That, combined with the tone and attitude we received, was what made this experience intolerable. I mentioned my background in the restaurant industry not to be lectured, but because it's exactly why I've always given you the benefit of the doubt when food didn't come out right, or take out order was wrong, cold or when service fell short. It was about your team's refusal to own up to a problem and treat a long-standing customer with even basic respect. We went here a few times for breakfast very early in the morning. The service is good. They have a nice outside dining area. I regret not taking photos of the food to post here. I have tried the pan cakes and the French toast. I've also had omelets and egg platters. Everything is great. The coffee is good and they have bagels as well. read more

What an absolute nightmare of " customer service". I'm convinced by them into ordering a custom cake from them. ( I asked it they are part of annadale bakery, they said no, but, they can do it too!) After designing, agreeing and going back-and-forth with what I can only assume was a teenager trying to make the arrangements, I find out a week before that they're just not going to do it. I recently stopped into Annadale Terrace after recovering from an accident that left my back and legs badly injured. Because of this, I specifically asked the hostess for a booth so I could sit comfortably. She saw I was dining alone and tried to seat me at the counter. I politely declined and again asked for a booth. She refused, saying they "needed to save them for other people," even though it was a quiet Thursday afternoon and there were multiple empty booths in plain sight. She instead offered me a half booth, which has a much narrower and shorter seat. I tried sitting in it -- it was extremely uncomfortable. I then tried the chair on the opposite side and that was no better. After realizing I couldn't sit there without pain, I went back to the hostess and explained all this, assuming she would understand and accommodate. Instead, she proceeded to explain to me how chairs work as if I hadn't just sat in them myself. At that point, I left. Being in pain and then spoken to condescendingly -- especially when the solution was simple and literally sitting empty -- was insulting. I didn't go there looking for special treatment -- only basic empathy and common sense. If someone clearly expresses physical discomfort, the response shouldn't be policy over compassion. read more

Although I gave it 5 stars because it is the best diner on SI, steak was totally AWFUL tonight. Over cooked and the ribeye cut was all grizzle. I would have rather spent the 37$ on Taco Bell than that steak. Nothing like a Griff's steak for a couple $$ more, it was a thin steakum. I could have returned it but I don't do that. I simply said, look at the color inside to waitress, she agreed and tell your cook he had one job to do and failed. As for grizzle, not their fault. This food was absolutely delicious! The grilled chicken on top of the salad was juicy and fully cooked and I loved the pita bread on the side. The vodka wrap is mine and my boyfriend's favorite dish at the terrace! It is filled with chicken cutlet, mozzarella, & vodka sauce! Its perfection! Highly recommend this restaurant. It's a little 8 pound Chihuahua he's a service dog medical and she wouldn't let him in the store and her attitude was really really bad. Wife and I came for dinner last night since we didn't want to cook. If you live in Staten Island on the south shore there is a chance you have been here. I don't remember having a bad meal here. Love the chicken orzo soup. You get nice big chicken pieces and not like some places where you have to search for the chicken. The soup it's you can see is loaded and not just a lot of broth. Opted to get breakfast for dinner. Steak fries are my preference and as you can see my bacon came out nice and crispy. Staff is very good and attentive. I will forewarn if you come here especially on a Friday or Saturday between say 6-8 you may have to wait a few minutes for a table. This is a pretty big diner and they every table may be taken so that's usually a sign of a good place. They also have a party room upstairs with an elevator and parking lot with an overflow lot next door at the catering hall if there is no event. read more

Food was fine, service was below average, management was abhorrent. For a family dinner of 6 with 3 kids under 2. We were charged a mandatory service fee of 20%. When mentioned I was not comfortable it was assumed I was to pay 20% for a server who didn't know who ordered what, or the common sense to ask if kids food can serve first. From when we sat down til we got entrees was a full hour. The explanation was only offered during the management conversation but not during the wait. When this was mentioned to management, instead of offering a solution, they argued mandatory tips are added for tables of 5 or more, who's heard of that ever? Refused to make adjustments, and chose to argue with me the way service was absolutely normal. This was not my first visit, previous visits were fine, but this was completely unacceptable and will not be returning. On top of the mandatory 20% was the additional credit card fee charge, none of which were mentioned or displayed at the time of ordering, but only on the bill. read more

I am giving 2 starts instead of 1 because the owner ended up doing the right thing. My office ordered lunch from here - a decent sized order about 7 people. My entire sandwich was covered in hair. Not just one piece, not just one side of the sandwich, but the entire thing. I will insert pictures. The entire office was so disgusted that they did not even want to eat anything from here. Not wearing hair nets is unacceptable. I can maybe excuse 1 piece of hair here and there we are all human, but for every part of the sandwich to be covered in black long curly hair is sickening. The owner did refund us after we all stated we refuse to eat anything from this order. However, this place needs a complete 180 this should have never happened!!! read more

Came after work and I had to drive my friend home cause he was getting his new car later in the day. He offered to buy dinner so I was like, who doesn't like free food ‍. Soon as I got in, ambiance wise I was like, "is this a resort? Like so fancy lolll and nice looking compared to other diners I've been to on Staten. It was not packed since we came on a Monday as well. I ordered the salmon with yellow rice and broccoli and a side of salad. The salad was large and had vinaigrette placed on the side as I requested. Finished the whole thing. Next came the main entree, the salmon was huge! It was very flavorful and moist/ not dry at all. I loved it. The broccoli was good as well and the rice too. I took half home to take to lunch tomorrow and it was free (thanks Joe) the service was really well, the waiter was on point with the water. What happened to the Annadale Diner? Food was awful! I ordered a Roma panini. It was supposed to be a breaded cutlet. What came out of the kitchen was a processed-meat patty that was brown in color and clearly low grade. It was nauseatin. Now they nickel and dime you to death, as well. I asked for a second pickle and was given a few on a plate, and an additional charge of nearly $4.00 on the bill, a charge that was never mentioned by the waitress until I asked about it. Also, one person at the table ordered some dressing to go with her wrap, and was charged an extra dollar. Again, never mentioned until the bill came and we had to ask. Yet another in our party wanted to split their dish and was charged $5.00 extra dollars to do so. Again, no mention of the charge until we asked about it on our bill. Management's explanation was that the nickel and dime charges are in the 10+ pages of the menu, and I was supposed to scour through the multiple pages to discover these charges on my own. Additionally, the outside landscaping has been neglected and left to almost be overgrown with weeds. The menus are falling apart with the plastic peeling off the pages, so on and so on. I felt I was watching an old friend fade away! So sad! Thinking about the way the owner used to take pride in this place, and built it to be our neighborhood eatery, it's hard to believe it has gone down this far. When I was pregnant, I came here weekly! On weekends, despite it being a pretty big place, definitely anticipate a wait between 15-30 minutes for a table. The parking lot also tends to get pretty full, but there's usually parking available off-site nearby. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. They also come around frequently to re-fill your coffee cup! Instead of offering a small (child's size) juice, they pour you a full glass for a reasonable price. I had a delightful breakfast here at Annadale Terrace. I live in Queens and my good friend lives in New Jersey, so it made sense to meet someplace in between: Staten Island. Neither of us had ever been to this restaurant. We were in for a treat. I must mention that our wait server, Pam, was very friendly and accommodating from the moment we were seated to the time we left. Pam is an asset to this restaurant. This place is BEAUTIFUL. The soothing beiges and browns coupled with several levels of seating, the plants placed throughout the dining areas, plus the choice of indoor or outdoor dining, made this an experience to remember. Plus, we were seated in my absolute favorite, a circular booth - I love those. The pancakes were large and fluffy, the bacon crisp and my eggs were perfectly fried. My bottomless mug of coffee was so expertly brewed that I did not need to add creamer or sugar. There was no acidic after taste like I often get from places with poorly brewed coffee. As two old friends, we were a bit chatty and stayed a very long time, embarrassingly long, but never did we feel rushed to leave. We both thoroughly enjoyed Annadale Terrace.
