Finding a parking a bit tough but I found a spot in the residential area near by where parking is free around lunch time during the weekend. We ordered: # Chitarra: Thick pasta noodles with "slow cooked bell peppers in tomato sauce" with black olives, capers, hot pepper, white anchovy fillets with breadcrumbs. Super savory with nice sour/hot kicks. Chitarra arrived al-dente, leaving a satisfying firmness to the bite. This is perfect for the heavier and chunky sauce. Delicious! # Radiatori: Super impressive! Short pasta with ruffled edges. Smooth arugula pesto sauce with crushed crunchy hazelnuts and crisp-tender pea shoots & juicy peas - all are clinging the pasta edges. The mix, textural conttast and flavor were eye opening to me. Refreshing, perfect for the hot summer lunch! # Po Bianco (fresh bread) was amazing too. It came out hot and pillow-y, with a brush of hot honey sauce and fresh nutty grated cheese on top. The accompanying white bean puree & pesto were delicious! We ended up ordering one more to "wipe off" pasta sauces :) # Burrata with peaches, shallot, thyme, crispy celtuce salsa, hot honey. They have three fresh pastas that change weekly, aka the perfect excuse to come back often. The space itself is cozy, warm, and welcoming. The burrata with maitake mushrooms was a lovely balance of creamy and earthy, while the lentils with sausage and figs nailed that savoury ft. sweet combo. We tried all three pastas of the week (I should have noted down the names ), but each one impressed: rich & comforting, nutty & creamy, and bright & briny. I really appreciate how they are flexible with different diets and can often offer something even off menu to accommodate. Overall I think food and drinks had room for improvement. Amazing cozy pasta bar that is so delicious! The restaurant is three floors, first two being dining and the kitchen and the basement being their washroom. It's a cozy but packed with flavour and had great service. I sat on their second floor and their menu was written on a chalk board (a little hard to see). Their menu changes everyday, so you'll need to check their socials to see what their pasta of the day is! Burrata & pita on side 5/5 - The cabbage pistachio pairing with the burrata was so delicious. The warm pita was also a nice touch. Caesar salad 5/5 - Something about the perfectly dressed and toppings of this salad was absolutely phenomenal. Warm olives 5/5 - Can't go wrong with some warm salty olives to munch on throughout your dinner. Skirt steak 2/5 - This was accidentally doused in a lot of salt and it was like playing roulette with which pieces are extra salty and which pieces are seasoned perfectly. It came with a green sauce that was nice an herby. After letting our server know about the steak, she kindly took it off our bill, but couldn't replace it as we got the last one of the day. However, made up for it with some free desserts! Thanks! Ravioli 5/5 - Hearty, delicious and carby goodness. Tiramisu 5/5 - Even though this was complimentary to our table because of the steak skirt oopsies, this was so creamy, sweet and delicious. A must get to end your meal. Annabelle is the roulette wheel of pasta bars in Toronto. They only offer 3 pastas per day, and never the same pasta twice, so you have to come here with an open mind to enjoy it. On this particular day we tried the bread with white bean pesto hummus, pesto spaghetti, and corn ravioli. The portions were good, and I liked the corn ravioli but the pesto spaghetti was just average to me. I'm not 100% sure if they use fresh pasta to be honest, I couldn't tell just from tasting it. I'm all for supporting small businesses and am making extra effort during this COVID shut down. We preordered their 2 can dine special for $25 which includes 2 pastas, a kale caesar and a piece of homemade garlic bread. We ordered at 5 pm and food was ready close to 6. What I thought was disappointing was not the fact that the pastas only filled half the containers. The vegetarian pasta with brussels and chickpeas was delish- though I'll have to note I had to treasure hunt the chickpeas to place on top for this picture. The duck ragu pasta was bland, bread was ok. Highlight was the salad and 2 spicy pork balls we ordered on the side for $9. In summary it was definitely not worth the 40 minute drive to this restaurant. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for months! My cousin and I tried once on a Sunday only to find a 45 minute wait (and given that we were both hungry, that was too long for us). We finally went back this weekend and Annabelle's did not disappoint! I would recommend getting there early to avoid the wait. We arrived around 5:30 and the upstairs was pretty full. As mentioned, they have 6 specials a day: 3 pastas, 1 salmon, 1 burrata and 1 vegetable. I had their Pappardelle special which had a great portion, the ingredients were fresh but there wasn't a sauce per se connecting it all. The pasta you could tell was made on site but so delicious! My cousin had the salmon special which was a nice portion size and from what she described tasted great. Some other notes, the seats weren't overly comfortable; however the food makes up for it. I would definitely be interested in trying some of their small plates in the future. Staff were friendly and attentive. Price point is reasonable. I was pretty excited to try this new pasta bar out but was disappointed and underwhelmed after my experience there. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday night around 6:30pm where we were lucky enough to get seats at the bar/open kitchen area. Service was friendly but the food was lacking. Maybe it was the specials and pastas that were made that day but most dishes did not stand out at all. Nothing was great nor bad, just average. We ordered the octopus, kale salad, burrata special (poached trout with endives), pastas (I got the rigatoni with clams and celery). My favourite dish probably was the burrata because it tasted fresh, but other than that I could have gone elsewhere for better burrata. The service of the food took quite a while since we waited at least 30-40 min after our appetizers came out to receive our pastas. We were there for quite a while and other people who ordered after us had their pastas first. People who sat down after us even left before we did. Definitely a place to take a date, and if you don't like overcrowded places. There are a couple tables when you walk in, and there's also tables on the second floor We ordered a variety of dishes to share. Starting with the cavatelli pasta in a pepper sauce with basil and pistachio - it was okay! Ordered the steak and chestnut polenta - which was amazing. Steak tasted great, and the flavours in the polenta was delicious. Burrata with shaved fennel, figs and clementine - so good. For drinks we got the earl grey sour - which had earl grey, lemon, vodka, galliano and thyme. It had a nice aroma and just the right amount of tartness. They don't take reservations but the wait was about 45 min at prime dinner time and we were called a bit earlier. I had the duck pasta of the day and was pleasantly surprised with the price point as well. I order duck anything everywhere I go and I found the price was very favourable! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with large plates of pasta, and this was the perfect portion! Annabelle keeps hitting home runs. I just can't shut up about the quality and inventiveness of the food here. Olive Garden this is not: their rotating daily menu probes the outer limits of what is possible in pasta, burrata and vegetables. It's pricier than it used to be (and it might be hard to justify another price bump), but for the time being I still think it is still quite good value for money. For starters, we ordered the BIANCO Po di pane ($6) which is sort of like a fresh panzerotti and boy, did it hit the mark (roasted garlic was super fresh). We also ordered the kale salad ($13) and even though this is typically boring, I really enjoyed this one. For our final starter, we ordered the spicy pork meatballs ($8) and this was hands down the star of the show...best sauce ever! I came here for a large group event and the upstairs level was booked out for the party. It fit about 20-25 people on the long family style table. The interior was dark, cozy and felt intimate with the candles. They have a good negroni selection and the drinks were strong but some were even sweet enough for me. The staff didn't really let us know what was happening though, during mingling they just dropped food off at random tables and didn't let us know what it was or whether we could start eating. Everyone just stood around the appetizers for a while. Until we were all too hungry and decided we should just start. It was also served family style, and I felt like everyone was eating so fast so they can get their portion which made it less enjoyable (or maybe I was just eating with a lot of hungry people) We started with these little pizza-like breads topped with cherry tomatoes, basil and parmesan. Lots of bread but it had a good chewy texture which I liked but needed more toppings personally. The Kale Salad was good with lots of cheese and the squash on top was a great mix. I also enjoyed the Pork Meatballs with a red sauce, comforting and classic. We got a meat sauce tagliatelle, the pasta texture was good but the sauce felt a bit salty and just unexciting even if it is a basic pasta. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. We also got a fusilli with spinach and a big dollop of ricotta, again the pasta noodle itself was good but something just felt bland about it. Overall a little underwhelming since they brand themselves as a pasta bar and I was really excited to try their pastas. The best was probably the grilled salmon entree (so not their pasta....) but we got 1 piece to split amongst 4-5 people which was not a lot. It was moist in the middle with a good crust on the outside, perfectly seasoned with a creamy sauce at the bottom. And it came with lots of crispy Brussel sprouts. For dessert it was an earl grey panna cotta. Again served family style, so it came in big scooped out blobs that had the color and shine of raw chicken (it did not look that appetizing) But it had lots of strong tea flavor and slightly bitter which I do like, and lots of pistachios sprinkled on top. Overall I was really excited to try this place, maybe I just had high expectations there were really good highs and some lows. Add to that warm and quick service, lovely and cozy decor, very reasonable prices, and never a line up (which boggles my mind) and Annabelle's is a winner! The daily fresh pastas are always delish (the duck ragu!!), the bread is sooooooo chewy and tasty, the burrata so smooth, and the lamb meatballs are perfect. This place is about real homemade food made simply to bring out the flavours; perfection. I've been here several times over the years and have never had anything I didn't like. My wife and I visited on a Friday night and the whole experience ruined the night for us. 1) No double doors which means you are blasted with cold wind every time someone opens the door 2) Wait staff looked way overworked and extremely unhappy and rude. 3) The negroni cocktails for $14 are less than half a glass and a complete scam!! I barely had a couple of sips. 4) Salad tasted terrible and bitter 4) They forgot my pasta dish. The wait staff kept saying "it's coming" but when I finally went to the bar after 40 mins to inquire, it was just sitting out there. No apologies, just a "oops we had a mixup". A fun little neighbourhood place. Not the kind of place I'd see taking a big group to. My husband and I did date night there and had the best seats in the house: at the bar where we could watch the staff and chat with them, which was fun. The pasta changes nightly, so there's not much point in providing specifics other than to say that fresh homemade pasta has a distinctive texture that some people aren't used to but that I really enjoy. It was tasty; I thought it could perhaps have used a bit more of the proteins and greens. Clearly they want to highlight the pasta itself, but you really do have to rely on the small plates to have a full meal. The fried baby octopus, though -- OMG. They cook the octopus sous-vide so it's super tender, and the coating that's added before they flash-fry it is perfect. We also had the nicely garlicky kale Caesar, and wiped up sauces with a puffy round of garlic bread. It's a good spot, pretty niche dining, nothing too fancy but clearly there's attention to what they do do, which they do well. They don't take reservations but they do start up a waiting list and you can wait in their cafe next door. Glad to have it in the 'hood. read more

I was really vouching for annabelle as I've heard great things. It seems to be a cute spot to go to once we can dine in again. I ordered the Annabelle 40 and had higher expectations for that price point of $40+. I love how they have a different set of dishes every day which is an amazing differentiator with competition. Annabelle 40 comes with two pastas, salad, bread, and dessert. The portions of the pasta fit half of the size of the container and the kale salad was a bit light. I was expecting there to be cheese on a kale Caesar salad, instead it was garnished with the sauce and light cabbage. Considering this was meant for 2 people, we were both left hungry after the meal. Unfortunately I couldn't finish my pasta. It had calamari in it and still had the fishy scent and taste to it :( The winners for the meal had to be the Dessert and Bread, hands down. read more

Since the place is small, expect to wait for your table unless you come early or later in the evening. No reservation and very little to no waiting space. Once seated service is pretty fast and good. Their menu changes daily. The pastas are made fresh with fresh ingredients which is why they change their menu daily. There are a good amount of apps that are on the standard menu that doesn't change daily, which is nice since they are pretty tasty and i would like to have them again next time. I would definitely recommend the barrata. It was super creamy and delicious. For the mains, the pastas are cooked to perfection and the flavours are just right, not to overwhelming or overly sauced. The portions dont seem very large but they also aren't expensive. A meal with app, main and dessert came up to less than $30 per person. So having all that will definitely fill your belly's. Just like their pastas, their desserts change. If they have the panna cotta on the menu, i highly recommend getting one. It's big enough to share and quite rich. Totally worth trying. read more

Tried this place again, this time for brunch. It had been a few years, so definitely expected that they would have worked their kinks out. I guess they're not kinks. Its just plain old bad service. We, along with the two other tables in the restaurant, waited over an hour for our brunch. No sign of server to refresh drinks while we waited (including coffee...brunch, remember). She basically avoided us instead of coming upstairs to give us an update on food, or offer any sort of assurance we would be eating food there. And then when our food was finally ready, it was really bland. We finally got more coffee but because 'they don't have caraffes' to top up coffee at tables she brought the overfilled mug (suppose it was to avoid bringing more later) and spilled a substantial amount on my husbands leg and food - and she didn't say a peep. Again, one might suppose she didn't notice, but, isn't it her job to notice if she overpoured a drink and then spilled all over a patron? again that's in line with the quality of service at this place. Very unwelcoming atmosphere. We waited 20 minutes for a table and it wasn't a busy night. The waitress told us that the only seats left were at the bar in the corner with no eating room. I saw a few people who left from upstairs, and when we asked her about it, she dismissed me and said that there was no space available upstairs. When it came time to order, she hurriedly took our orders before we even had a chance to look at the entire menu. My friends and I took our parents who were in town for the weekend visiting to Annabelle for brunch today - and our experience was pretty awful to be honest. To start off, the food here is really great, but unfortunately it doesn't make up for the horrible service. We got there, and it took about 25 minutes for our server to even take our drink/food order. She can't really be blamed since she was the only server and it was pretty busy, but she wasn't particularly pleasant. A table that came in after us then asked our server if they could order before us since they were "super hungry" and she took their order - we were not impressed by this since we had already been sitting for 20 or so minutes. It took 45 minutes for us to get coffees and caesars. Our party of 7 had to sit at 2 different tables which is fine since the space is small, but when our food finally came over an hour later the tables were served at different times. The second table got their food at least 30 minutes later. All of this being said, we are reasonable people and we understand that this was all likely due to understaffing and poor organization. The brunch menu is definitely too extensive for the small kitchen etc. However, we did mention this to the staff when we left and they weren't apologetic and kept making excuses. In a situation like this bills should be reduced and the drinks absolutely should have been taken off. We noticed several other tables also complained about the service. I don't typically write reviews or even complain, but there was no management available and it really needs to be mentioned that the quality of service is a huge downfall to the place. The 2.5 oz negroni was solid - can't remember the name but they have a lot of variants. For appetizers, we got the baked salmon crostini and spicy pork meatballs - both were good. It was only $8 for two meatballs. For the mains, we grabbed a pappardelle (zucchini, mint, lemon & ricotta) and the lamb bolognese rigatoni. The pasta on both were excellent - cooked al dente and gave that satisfying chew. Found the bolognese sauce a tad salty - but I'm a fan of lamb on nearly anything. The portions were reasonable and if you're REALLY hungry, it's not to crazy to order 2 pasta dishes considering the price. The only major complaint is the service can be quite slow - with two servers working two-floor setup - the dishes came out slowly and took a while for us to get the bill. But the servers did their best and were friendly. Overall, solid pasta joint offering good value. (my mom is really bad at making salmon...it's always dry. I had high expectations when I walked in. The downstairs bar area is adorable and cozy, and the hostess was incredibly welcoming. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was quite underwhelming. The menu is pretty limited which is all well and good, but you should know going in that you're more or less limited to pasta and a couple side dishes. You're at the mercy of the specials board. If you're a picky eater you might have some trouble. We split two of the pasta dishes. Both were very good. Sadly, not large enough for leftovers. I acknowledge I'm being a bit of a curmudgeon by saying I expected larger portions for the price. But hey, you pay for quality!! I knocked this down to 3 stars because the negroni I had was hard to choke down - and negronis are my go-to! Also, the dessert (panna cotta) was just not good. In fact i pretty much demand it if im going out to eat it and feel if i'm going to pay for it the least a restaurant can do is make it fresh for such a cheap item to make. However, you cant just make fresh pasta and expect it to taste delicious just because its fresh. Pasta on its own and is pretty bland which unfortunately was my experience with their main attraction. Despite their measly $11 cost, this does little to appease my disdain for having almost zero flavour. Their saving grace Im happy to report, is their tasty list of delicious apps that saved the day for our table or all would have been lost. Sure, this restaurant isn't right on the subway line. But it's worth the trek for the fresh pasta made daily. If you're looking to escape the downtown hoards, this place will do nicely for a date or a group. (Or if you want to bring your laptop and drink solo, that wouldn't be out of place here either.) The service was attentive, the food tastes like homemade and looks even prettier. The restaurant is small, but the tables are a good size and spaced out, meaning you're not stuck trying to eat dinner out of your lap or bumping elbows. Felt very authentic and the ingredients tasted great. The potatoes from the shrimp & polpo was so tender, however the baby octopus was a little too mushy. The mushroom & truffle on toast was so aromatic. It was definitely good quality truffle oil . We shared the fresh fusilli pasta with Porchetta. The pasta, as promised, was freshly made. It was soft but enough al dente for my liking. The reason I couldn't give it a 5 stars was due to a staff - the waitress who packed up our leftovers and gave us the bill. I swear, i would have made a fuss, but decided to remain complacent in the next scenario. She was cleaning our table and then dropped the fork into my lap. Good thing it didn't end up stabbing me (I was wearing shorts) and no real apology after the accident and then when she came back with the bill and the debit machine, she abruptly asked us how we would like to pay without even giving us time to see the bill first. I said, we'll check the bill first and get back to you (it was very abrupt and unmannerly). With that said, she immediately left our table without any acknowledgement. The music they play would provide great ambiance if it actually allowed you to hear the other people you're dining with. And this isn't me just being cranky. The party I sat next to expressed the exact same thing. Other than that, the $10 dollar pasta dishes are of great value. I've never had any qualms with the food. The dining area is small, however; so be prepared to wait 45 minutes beforehand. So, food is excellent. I really, really want to give this 4 stars, but the brunette waitress was unwarrentedly rude and condescending from the get-go and through the entire meal, it was hard to. She seemed like a teenager who didn't want to be serving people. The food is great (the daily pastas are wonderful) and the owners (the other two there) really seem to try hard (though a bit overwhelmed) but are very accommodating. It's hot in there though (perhaps some fans?), but I'm sure it will be nicer in the fall. read more

We came here an another day for Saturday lunch, and there were only 2 tables occupied and 1 table upstairs. For some reason unknown (it wasn't communicated from staff who served us) we waited whopping 60 minutes for simple carbonara to arrive. The folks sitting right next to us got their sandwiches in 45 minutes. Yikes. Pasta itself was alright but still felt bit too creamy for carbonara, and what's supposed to be pancetta somehow tasted and looked like regular bacon. read more

Great little (very little) spot. The downstairs is open to the kitchen, which is cool to watch. Ingredients are good quality and pasta is made in house. Service is friendly and they seem to work well together. The pasta specials rotate, and the small plates and appetizers great too. The meat balls have great flavour ! Warning: They have limited space (the building is small): Which means you may have to wait next door at Bob's Cafe / the chef has little room to cook, which means orders don't come out as fast. Drinks - not a fan of expensive drinks. If you're into them though, they do provide a variety of exotic Gin mixed drinks. Food; not your typical Italian restaurant, the protein is not the star of the dish... which confuses eaters. This is a Pasta Bar (by classification), its about the pasta. --------- On to this positives: Two smart things I like about this place Thinking of going there? guess what? They often post the special of the day on their instagram page and you get an idea of what you can be ordering. Secondly, i like sitting at the bar. Not that its the best seats in the house... but because you can see the chef cooking and how they handle the pasta. Did i mention fresh pasta? Positive. Maybe its the simplicity of the food / pasta pasta pasta / and most people are use to ordering dishes based on a big piece of protein (fish, steak, chicken) - Thats not what this place is.
