First time visiting this restaurant, and I will be back. It was a little after 11a when I arrived. The atmosphere was busy and social. The service was good. Our server was efficient and friendly, but I didn't feel like she was very personable, if that makes sense. The food was great, except my hash browns. The taste was as if they were in the freezer for too long, and not fresh at all. Aside from that everything else was delicious. The pancakes were a nice size and had a great taste to them. The omelette was cooked perfectly and huge. My brunch date(mom) did mention that her grits were salty. Hopefully the things that I mentioned were just a fluke that day. First time coming back since they reopened in the new location. This is a little local hidden gem that really good for breakfast. The amount of food for the price you can't beat it. I had so much to take home! The meal I had came with two big salmon patties and pancakes that were huge. They patties were good but they were a little dry for my likings. My husband went there for lunch. We have been going there for years but today was terrible. i ordered squash, mashed potatoes and country fried steak. the squash was cut really thick and breaded so heavy and almost burnt on the outside and not done on the inside. The steak was hard; potatoes instant and not stirred well. Two different gravies, both instant. My husband got a hamburger steak that was hard and greasy and french fries that he said tasted freezer burnt. As a bonus we came home and he started throwing up and had diarrhea. I only tasted it all afternoon. Evidently, the old cook must've left and they have a new one who can't boil water so we wont be back read more

I live out of state but when visiting my in-laws I try to fit them in. I didn't realize that they had moved from their original location but a quick search found them. Stopped by for breakfast. As usual, it has the charm of a country diner, cozy tables and friendly staff. The food is always a treat there. The menu has everything that could be expected as well as a few surprises. Fluffy but hearty pancakes and smoky sausages and eggs done just right. Endless coffee and smiles all around. I've never walked out of there disappointed or anything less than full. Breakfast there allows me to skip lunch and drive straight through to home in Virginia. Keep this gem in mind when you're in the area. read more

Today was our first time going to Anna J's and that will be our last! ordered hashbrowns, looked like the they cooked them in the crockpot and tasted terrible. I also ordered the steak (Flat as a pancake) with 1 egg, the steak was SO salty that I could only eat 2 bites. the only thing good on that order for me was the egg and 1/2 piece of toast. On my husbands order, he ordered an omelet, the omelet look like scrambled eggs with bacon which was SO salty he could eat but 2-3 bites. The tea was SO sweet, I had to ask for some unsweetened to add to it. When we left, the plates look the same as when we got them. What a waste of money!!! If you want to give away money just go in a hand it to them without eating. Best to go buy the store and grab a candy bar. read more

Ever since the first time my gf and I went to Anna J's we've never had a bad experience. We get seated and just as we do we're always greeted and handed menus by the wonderful wait staff. Not long after we decide what we want our order is taken and in almost no time at all our food is out. At first I was skeptical about the food after it came out so fast but it is always amazing and made with love every time. Couldn't recommend Anna J's more. read more

This was my first visit and I dropped in for their breakfast. It's a seat yourself diner with plenty of green checkerboard clothed tables and a few booths. There were only a few people there when I went in and based on what I heard they were regulars. The service was good and the waitress was friendly. They had some specials on a white board so I decided to try their 2 eggs, 2 pancakes & a meat special. The pancakes were big and cooked just right and the over easy eggs were also just about perfectly done. So why not more stars? The coffee was mediocre at best and the sausage patties were almost tasteless. Based on the number of call in orders they were getting and the few other regulars that came in while I was there I think I'm going to give them another shot in a few weeks and try something different and see if the rating goes up. read more

Although, the food reminds me of grandma's cooking the service is horrible. I've visited two Saturday's in a row and I observed the waitress unplug the phone so she didn't have to take anymore to go orders, lie about the wait time if you came in to make a to go order to steer customers away and have an inappropriate arguments in front of the dine in customers. read more

I have always been a fan of Mom & Pop breakfast places. I just hadn't found one that I really enjoyed until today. Maybe it was because I had good company with me. Maybe it was that everything I ordered was cooked just right. Whichever reason it was...this place does breakfast food justice. The restaurant itself is a bit of a butter face, but you can tell by the mix of patrons, that this is a breakfast place that sees repeat business. This place scared me when my husband and I walked in, I worked in restaurants for over 10 years. The first impression leaves a lasting impression. The restaurant seats had holes in them with duct tape holding them together. The food was just ok. I was highly recommended to eat here and wish I never did. I took a bite and couldn't continue eating despite being very hungry. My husband wanted to order mashed potatoes and we found out that they don't use real potatoes, only potato flakes. Geez how hard is it to peel a potato? This was a good sign that the restaurant takes shortcuts, potentially unsafe ones.
