Another Sunday Funday, meeting a girlfriend for brunch and discovering another gem in Rock Hill! This time, we found Flipside Restaurant, and everything we had today was absolutely outstanding! We started with the Smoked Maple Old Fashioned and Pineapple Express--they have such a great cocktail menu! The Yogurt Parfait was the perfect bite with fresh berries, honey, Greek yogurt, and crispy granola. My husband ordered the Grit Bowl with creamy pimento cheese, pulled pork, an over-easy egg, and spicy mayo. Talk about comfort food done right! My girlfriend got the Burger, and it was amazing! The combination of pimento cheese and bacon jam was SO good. I went with the Biscuit Bake--creamy sausage gravy, aged cheddar, bacon, and an over-easy egg. Another totally drool-worthy bite! This was a cute little place with a hidden entrance. The staff was very friendly and quick to serve. The beer on tap was all good, local brews, and just happened to be $5 per draft on Thursdays! I got the original burger, because it was national burger day. Overall, good flavor and execution (except maybe a little salty). I ordered the sweet potato fries on the side and was disappointed when they came out covered in cinnamon and sugar. This was not mentioned on the menu or anywhere else. I am always excited to go and grab food from Flipside. Everything is always fresh and hot. The real star is Aaron. He's amazing whether it's an online order or I'm sitting in. He always gives the best service and energy. I honestly order sometimes just to interact with him. I will say I prefer the kale ceasar when eating in house than Togo. First time here with mixed results. Promptly greeted and seated so things began well but then we had no waitstaff for quite a while to the point we had to go ask. Apparently there was some communication issues and then got our waitress. The manager came out to apologize and make things right. So kudos to Flipside for that because a lot of restaurants don't so this restaurant does care about its guests. We went with the Pastrami Reuben and BBQ Sloppy Joe. The food arrived promptly and looked good. The Pastrami Reuben was good. It was hot and well balanced. The fries were a different story as many were stuck together and tasted "gummy". The sloppy Joe was good tasting but only lukewarm and the cheese not melted. The sweet potato fries with the sandwich were good but also could have been warmer. So the service corrected itself, the management does care about its patrons but the food was just ok. Some hits and some misses. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place !!! We stopped in with our dog and grabbed the last spot outside! They have tables set up in the alley by the entrance, and it is really cute and tucked away. Great if you're bringing a dog along. Our server was very friendly, and we felt taken care of. We ordered the steak and eggs and the steak avocado toast. Both were delicious!!! We stopped in here without a reservation this past Saturday night around 6:30 pm, and luckily, we were quickly seated in the back room (the main room was full). We've dined in the back room twice by now, and we noticed that the service is MUCH slower. We waited a good 10-15 minutes before the waitress came to our table! For drinks, my husband had beer (as usual), and I tried their "Pineapple Express". Frankly, the drink was a bit weak in terms of alcohol...and tasted just OK. Also, the waitress accidentally spilled some on the desk. Oh Well? We ordered the Avocado Pull Apart Bread for appetizer...which was our second time, and was really good. For the entree, my husband ordered the BBQ Baby Back Ribs, which he seemed to enjoy...and I tried their Blackened Salmon Pasta. For the first time ever at Flipside, I did not like this dish. It was WAY too salty, and I thought it could have used a bit more veggies (not just tomatoes and a tiny sliver of spinach). In a way, I was surprised how little I liked this Salmon dish. I say this 'cuz I always tell everyone how EVERYTHING at this restaurant is so on point. Surprisingly, not the case this time. The kitchen staff really needs to rework this dish...it's just WAY too salty....and too saturated in grease. Obviously I will not order this again. Still this restaurant is probably our favorite in town. While I'd normally drop 2 for the food and drink experience I've had, I'm going to go with 3 stars...only because I know other dishes here are great. I just know now not to order this Salmon dish. Had a wonderful time here for brunch today. Cool atmosphere. Not overly crowded like so many brunch places on the weekend. Nice balance between southern diner and modern eatery. Sat at the bar. Matt and Eric were great! Food was fresh and well prepared. Only knock is I would've wanted my grits warmer and with a creamier consistency. But the flavor was there! Omelet was solid with large roughly cut vegetables and fluffy eggs. My acquaintance enjoyed his truffle mushroom bowl. Hearty and rustic. Very unique restaurant in OldTown Rockhill. The menu is very good. I had the Shrimp and Grits, and I know you think big deal, but they definitely put a spin on the dish and it is delicious. Also, the avocado and ricotta bread is over the top. The service is excellent, the environment is comfortable. Plus you can stroll through OldTown after you eat. Well worth the trip! read more

We searched Yelp for restaurants in the Rock Hill area and decided on Flipside. Great choice! We visited on a Tuesday evening so they weren't busy at all. Our server was friendly and attentive. Food was outstanding! We had the coffee barbeque ribs (fell right off the bone) and the fried chicken. The only think I will say about the chicken is I wish it had more gravy. (I could have asked but didn't-I was enjoying everything else lol). Try the peach sangria too if you want a refreshing summer drink. Definitely make this a stop if you're in the area. read more

I've never been so disappointed with a fish fry. The fish itself was so-so. The batter was mushy except for the ends, which were hard as rocks. The fries were small and limp like they'd been microwaved. The way too sweet coleslaw was swimming in liquid and had little squares of maybe pineapple? I really have no idea. My mom and I come here every time I'm in Rock Hill for brunch. We sit at the bar, order breakfast and bloody marys and enjoy the food. This place is such a cute vibe. Every time we eat here, the service is also really good. Food is delicious as are the drinks. I have tried several different items on the brunch menu and all of them have been great. My burger was juicy- I just didn't taste any seasoning on the meat- but I did not get the pimento cheese on it- so maybe that a small difference. The bacon and onion jam I thought would have a good balance of sweet and salty- but it was more on the salty side and a bit dry. The messy fried chicken sandwich- my hubby said it was really good with the maple mayo- balanced the heat nicely. The pancakes were huge- they were good. It was something different about them- but it could've been the maple syrup- which is what we not used to eating. The menu is vast and our waitress stated that it changes quarterly. The food was great as always but the service was just terrible, our waiter was a man with glasses who seemed completely uninterested in being there and had a bit of an attitude towards us. Both my girls ordered off menu; avocado toast with a fried egg, one added bacon and the other added fried potatoes. My wife BLT and I decided to try the Southern Chicken monte Cristo I'm curious how they charge for my daughter's meals considering they have a steak and salmon avocado toast. Waiting for our meals...... The meals were good, but my hunch was right. The price was not. They charged for the steak avocado toast because as a told in a Condescending tone, "There is no button for plain avocado toast". Okay! sure! The main ingredient is not there and it makes perfect sense to charge for the price for the menu item because there is an "easy button" to push on the register. That was a BS answer from a manager that needs to learn something about empathy. This is not my first visit, but may be my last to this location. I have been here numerous times over the years for both work and pleasure and this location has disappointed my previous 2 visits. I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses, but this location has not lived up to expectations recently. This was our second visit to this restaurant and our first was many years ago. Making a reservation over the phone was very easy, and changing it a day later was no problem. We were a party of 9, and Summer, our server was excellent. She was friendly and cheerful and did a fantastic job of taking care of us. I got the baby back ribs and Mac and cheese and it was piping hot when I got it. Everyone else was happy with their meals and we had no issues at all. Hubby and I decided to support a local restaurant that was less than 2 miles from our house. Never thought about this place until I searched for a good old fashioned cheeseburger. No pork, no fries, no onions rings, nor any eggs added to it. Just cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes! Some ask, "Where's The Beef?". Well Flipslide has it. This burger did not disappoint. Real beef and cooked to perfection. Not overcooked or undercooked. Of course they had their "signature" burger on the menu, but you could customize it anyway you liked with no problems! The staffers were super duper friendly. Great service and great food equals a perfect combination. The only Flipside of the story is that they close at 9pm and don't have imported beers. read more

The fort mill location only giving a 3 star. Never consistent and never great. The downtown rock hill location I'm giving a solid four stars. The bread with mozzarella and avocado spread with pepperoni dipping sauce- OMG to die for! Their breakfast in RH is also great. Prices have gone up and portions have gotten smaller like everywhere but still a solid meal. Service is usually warm and welcoming.
