Our first time visiting and we were able to get reservations for New Years Eve Dinner! They did an amazing job. We started with some fresh and delicious cocktails and a yummy dates wrapped with bacon and burrata cheese. Next was their special three course meal. The menu mirrors many places you'll find throughout the Southeast, but it's the execution of the dishes that makes this place special. In a quaint building on Main St., Fortes Eatery takes fresh ingredients and intentionally curates them into familiar American fair. Anytime you see fresh fennel in the kitchen that's usually a good sign. The mushroom agnolotti was inventive, playing with the star ingredient in unique yet familiar ways. The lunch service staff was friendly, conversational, and present and showed great care in accommodating food restrictions for our table while ensuring the essence of the entrees stayed in tact. The atmosphere shows flexibility, welcoming for any number of occasions from date night to a business lunch. Part of the flipside group of restaurants. FM Eatery is on the old main street of Fort Mill in the facility that used to be another restaurant. Parking is across the street, behind that row of buildings. Bridgett J. took very good care of us and served as a great guide for us understanding various menu offerings. A cozy interior without much room to stretch out but is comfortable. It was lunch time, so I had shrimp and grits ($16) and wife had a Moroccan BBQ Sparerib Bowl ($16). Both were very yummy. There were a number of other interesting offerings, so we will come back to try some of them. You could even, if you are in the mood, have a nicely romantic dinner here...hint, hint. read more

Alright so second time is the charm. This time, we ordered an appetizer salad, two entrees and dessert. The takeaway to a better experience was getting a large plate instead of sampling small plates. They just had better execution. Our server Blake had the best personality, which also made the experience enjoyable. I never order dessert, but had to take a piece of the biscoff cheesecake home. It did not disappoint. Love the fact that getting reservations for a weekend for two is relatively easy a couple nights prior and that there is a new parking lot so you don't have to fight for a street spot. I visited FM Eatery during lunch. It's a cute, little place in Main Street. I was able to secure a spot on the street but there is parking behind the various buildings as well. In my new role as a consultant, I cross-cross the country and one of my favorite things to do is let the locals direct me to their favorite spots. I have eaten excellent Mexican in El Paso, delighted in juicy Lucy's in Minneapolis, and been overwhelmed by history and delicious gumbo in New Orleans. Fort Mill was not a place I expected to have a similar experience. I ordered the Daily Hooker, a blackened redfish sandwich with a side of brussel sprouts. Seems simple enough, and it was, but there is something about food done right that puts it over the top. The seasoning on the redfish was perfect. Not so heavy you can't taste the fish, but enough that you could feel the bite of the blackening. And I have no idea what they did to the sprouts, but they were just perfect. The flavor is just "different." According to Andrew, my waiter, they do a dinner dish with shrimp and a sauce that is even better. I have no idea how, but I look forward to discovering this. So it's here in the downtown district of Fort Mill and so there's plenty of parking nearby unless there is soem sort of special event. We arrived here on a Saturday afternoon and the brunch menu was still going. Warmly welcomed and seated immediately, we looked over the menu. Mrs. K. ordered a mocktail "Berry Smash" with mint and berries that she thoroughly enjoyed. I had a "Dad Beer" from their menu. For mains, it was a tough call as there are quite a few fabulous options. In the end, it was the Blueberry Pancakes for Mrs. K. (with lemon zest!) and the Sweet Potato Tot Hash for me. Both were served quickly and still hot from the kitchen. We enjoyed it very much but big portions and so the remains ended up being reheated for breakfast the next day. It's been a little over a year since my last review so time for an update. Ben & I went for lunch on Tuesday. It was busy @ 1230p, 20 minute wait for a table so we sat @ the bar. It was fine, we got great service from Brittany who was my server last time. We each had the steak sandwich with grilled Brussels sprouts. I wanted the steak tacos but they only served with corn tortillas which we all know fall apart after the first bite. Ben also got the hot chicken Sando & the FM Burger 'to go'. We were both pleased with the steak sandwich though mine was just a little in the rare side. The fried egg, sunny side up was an interesting spin but liked the added protein option. Ben got a visit from Jason, now Manger after leaving the same post @ next door Hobo's. He said their lunch business had been steadily climbing for the last year. I really like their creative menu. Sat at the bar and Bridgette was the bar tender Started with an OMB Mecktoberfest. For an entree I ordered shrimp & scallops grits. Patiently waiting for my entree..... The entree arrived quickly and was consumed almost as quickly! Great meal. I enjoyed the seat on the scallops and the flavor of the sauce. The sausage and spinach and tomatoes added just the right texture and flavor. I highly recommend the shrimp & scallop grits and the FM Eatery in general. Have been staying Rock Hill, SC for a couple days on business. Decided to venture out a bit and stumbled on this place. This restaurant had a great small town, upscale ambiance to it. Service was knowledgeable and friendly. I ordered the Large plate Bourbon chicken, mango rice, and scallops plate, and Brussels small plate. FM Eatery has become our go-to local restaurant for upscale meals in a casual setting. How do I describe the food here? Websites call it "Southern", "Global", "American", even "Soul". None are entirely accurate. What the Fortes family have done is fill a menu with their favorite dishes - and then add their own unique twists to them. So we have fried oysters - with a crunchy fried chicken coating. Or squash bisque - with candied pears, ameretto cookie crumble and balsamic vinegar. Or bacon wrapped dates with a bourbon honey glaze. And every small or large plate we've ordered has been delicious. Our objective has been to work our way through the menu - a near impossible task because numerous dishes are rotated in and out. (Not to mention daily specials, once my wife and I shared a bowl of Ramen.) We've taken to sitting at the bar when it's available. It's comfortable and we enjoy interacting with the friendly bartender and service staff. On our last visit I ordered the Big Bang Burger. This was seriously the best burger I've had in a very long time. Start with smashed wagyu beef patties (charred on the edges yet still tender in the middle) add carmelized onions, pork belly, house-made pickles, cheese, and fried egg on a brioche bun. Delicious! And huge, it made a second meal for me. I can't recommend Fortes Mill Eatery highly enough. Give it a try, it's now open for lunch and Sunday Brunch as well as for dinner. read more

I just celebrated my birthday at FM Eatery and have found a new favorite restaurant! I selected this restaurant because of its extensive and creative small plates menu, which suits my eating needs (keto diet). EVERYTHING we tried, and we sampled many items, was amazing!!! I loved the duck confit, spareribs, poached pear salad, cheese board, and especially the risotto. We also had crab cakes, lamb, chicken and waffles, and pork belly slider. I also loved my espresso martini! Service was impeccable, as was the atmosphere. We were all impressed with creativity and execution of the dishes. Gorgeous warm and bright space, with very friendly staff (our server was Faith); I thought it was cool the owner/chef was chatting with folks at a table nearby. We both ordered the Berry Smash mocktail ($7), which was a bright and colorful drink. I think it could've been slightly sweeter (or have more berry flavor), but it was nice. After much indecision because the menu is fabulous (lots of seafood options), I chose the brown butter scallops ($16). It was a generous portion for the price and the flavors were awesome! I loved the bacon saltiness and the grits were cooked perfectly. The arugula salad helped to break up the savoriness so I loved that inclusion. I'm a fan of this family of restaurants (Flipside, Salmeri's), so I was eager to check out this new addition in Fort Mill... They don't take online reservations, so I had to call to make reservations for dinner...so a bit outdated on that front, but no big deal. The place itself was small, but nicely layed out...and had that quaint, small-town vibe. Initially upon arrival, I was very put off by how this hostess seated us at THE worst possible table for 2...right by the bar, in the middle row of the restaurant. I requested another table, and she escorted me to one of several better, larger tables up front. So yeah...thanks for that!! Minus 1 star right off the bat for the rude seating placement. Again, I did have reservations...and there were several, better tables open (this was a weeknight, by the way). She did not have to take us to the worst table, right beside the bar. ?!? Then the slow rate of initial service?? It took a good 10 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. My husband and I were near rolling our eyes by this point. I actually planned on deducting another star at this point. Once the waiter finally started to assist us, things went along much better. I never encountered such slow initial table service at any of their other restaurants...and really not sure why it took so long for them to get to our table?? Finally, the food. Just as expected, I loved the menu, and there were numerous items I wanted to try. We decided to order several items to share...Smoked Burrata (which came with Crostini), Cheerwine Braised Beef Short Ribs, Diver Scallops, and Chicken Lettuce Wraps. The smoked Burrata was delivered on a cheese board, nicely presented...and I loved the Burrata. However, we both didn't love the Crostini. We had Burrata at Ever Andalo a few months ago, and it tasted much better on their Foccacia bread. Also, the jam wasn't too remarkable either...and spread too thinly on the board. So...although nicely presented, we weren't a huge fan of their version of the Burrata board. The Burrata was good, but not sure if it was worth it. Somewhat mixed feelings on the Chicken Lettuce Wraps as well. Again, nicely presented, but too skimpy on the chicken and the lettuce. Also, the grilled chicken wasn't too tasty. My husband even mentioned that it was cold. More than anything, I appreciated the sides that came with it. Still, we agreed that this wasn't the best version of Lettuce Wraps we've had...and we'll most likely skip it on future visits. As for the 2 small dishes, we both agreed that they were all-out delish! The Short Ribs were so tender and tasty...and the grits were delicious too. We also loved the Diver Scallops...and wished there were more. Ironically, the presentation for these super-tasty dishes were a bit sloppy...meaning, not as strong as the one for the Burrata and the Lettuce Wraps. Oh Well. It was really hard to do this review because there were so many things going on...and so much mixed feelings on things. Just as I anticipated, the foods here were really good...and as expected, chef-inspired as well. Guess we just expected a bit more from the Burrata and the Lettuce Wraps, but they were still good. The other 2 dishes, the Short Ribs and Diver Scallops, were way beyond good...they were Awesome! If I was to rate this strictly on food, I'd probably drop 5 stars (despite a few disappointments). However, I was really put off by the hostess seating (she was not very friendly either...never even once even flicked a smile at me or my husband!). Also, it took about 10 minutes for the waiter to show up at our table...unusually slow! Once the waiter was assigned to our table (or when the waiter was able to get to us??), things DID pick up...and he managed to do a good job. Still, things just did not start out too well here on this occasion. If based on the initial service (again, eventually got better!), I probably would have dropped 2 stars. Good thing I'm a fan of this family of restaurants. Given my history with this chain, I'll bump up the ratings to a 4. I just hope I can bump up their ratings on my next visit here...hopefully we'll be welcomed a bit better (and faster?) next time around?? read more

The shrimp were plump and flavorful, and the grits were creamy and delicious. For my main course, I had the lamb, which was cooked to perfection and accompanied by potatoes and a small garnishing salad. The flavors were well-balanced and the presentation was beautiful. Date night out and this was the first place we thought of to try. The service was friendly and super attentive, atmosphere was casual yet also with a funky flair, and the food was to die for. We did a series of small plates, and sadly the camera did not get to eat first for all of them. The crab cakes and the smoked burrata were my absolute favorites, and my husband loved the mussels and the shrimp and jalapeño sausage skewers. Ended with the bitter Chocolate Pots de Crème pretzel and cocoa nib crumble, which was light and delicious - perfect way to end the meal. If you don't know, now you know that it is Hot Chicken Week here in the Charlotte area! What a perfect excuse to travel down to FM Eatery in the heart of downtown Fort Mill. I was blown away by this restaurant in a quaint little town. The atmosphere is the cutest and they had an acoustic guitarist playing during brunch on a Sunday. I started with a bloody mary flight that was a lot of fun! I had never tried so many different styles of bloody marys before. I loved the variety. The hot chicken sandwich was deliciously crispy, juicy and spicy. The hash bowl was delicious with a lot of attention to detail and flavor. All of the dishes that came out around us looked fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. We were able to walk in without a reservation but beware - they only serve brunch from 9am to 1pm on Sundays. That 1:00 cutoff is something to be aware of.
