Sadly, I've not been back since 5/22 but today was the day. Michelle and I participated in the Third Thursday Art Crawl and afterwards popped in to see what was on. I was hoping to see Albert(a) Wine-Stein aka, Amanda and she did not disappoint! So happy to catch up with her after almost 4 years. I know, I should get out more! They have a great opportunity to select from 50% of wine bottles so Michelle and I selected a Franciscan CabSav from San Miguel, Ca just south of Napa near the Paso Robles area. Just an EXCELLENT choice we concluded, you will NOT be disappointed with this selection with hints of black cherry, carmel and coconut. We settled into one of their many rooms and selected a table where we could order from their menu with a nice selection of appetizers, salads, hand helds and small bites. We shared the Crab Rangoon app & each had the Harvest Salad. All together is was an excellent combination. It was a warm pre-spring evening and just a perfect finish for memorable outing. Kudos to Erin and her support team for making our visit an experience to remember. read more

Love illumination wines! Been here several times for brunch and for the occasional wine night with friends. Such a fun space with eclectic design choices inside, and ample outside seating as well. The staff is always incredibly friend and very wine knowledgeable - able to speak to each wine and all the flavors you might come across. The food is also delicious and never disappoints. Highly recommend the music nights too, they have some great local musicians perform which just makes for the perfect spring and summer nights. read more

We went on a somewhat rainy day, sat on the covered front porch. Ate the most delicious stuffed mushrooms and had a delicious organic local rose' wine. Perfect combo, cozy atmosphere and friendly customer service. Will be back soon! read more

Owners are delightful! They turned an older home into a cozy place to meet family or friends and relax in rooms with beautiful decor. We enjoyed a good wine recommendation, good company and tasty pepperoni flatbread. Cutest place with tons of seating indoors and out too. I love the selection of wines and having Brie's Boards for food is a great touch. Wonderful customer service as well. I would give it 5 stars if there was better parking - there's no street parking allowed and they have a tiny lot behind the space. I wish they would secure a deal with some of the local businesses so patrons could park there after hours without worry of being towed. read more

Amazing new urban winery in Fort Mill! Lots of options for wine, beer, food and "elixirs" which are cocktails made with a wine base. Brand new Tasting Room. Beautiful older home, we relaxed on the front porch! Just a short drive off Rt 77. Owners Linda & Mark are lovely. We tasted the wine flight. White, Rose, & 2 Reds. I visited this place a couple of weeks ago for a friends birthday and was delightfully impressed. The charcuterie was plentiful and tasty as were the wines. It's a cute outdoor at your own house type of vibe with occasional music artists. Very relaxed and the wait staff is so attentive and knowledgeable. Great place for a relaxing girls night. The service was abysmal. We walked around for ten minutes after getting in the door . The "bar manager" was on the phone during what was obviously a non business call. When we asked a woman in an office room what we should do she said" Oh, I thought my bar manager was taking care of you." After explaining that she was on the phone, this woman went in and fussed a little and the bar manager said, " Oh, they're just musicians." She was put out with having to get us a deink and very off putting about our presence. Very snippy. Later, after we had ordered a glass of wine that came in the tiniest glass, we saw another couple walk in and order, and their wine glasses were big enough to soak your feet in. We will never be back. Good luck staying in business in the small town of Fort Mill. read more

Ok, sooo very rare to give a five, but, Illumination hits all the notes. Now mind you, this is not a traditional winery, of which there are very few growing their own traditional varietals in this area. Nor is it a traditional tasting room. Rather, it is the opposite - a hybrid, all of which prove out wonderfully. A mom and daughter operation seeking to raise the wine level in the area, while maintaining a fun and eccletic atmosphere. They've paired with a local biz to create truly amazing charcuterie boards and finger foods. They offer a decent wine list, while enticing diverse beverage palets by offering beer and creative cocktails. Coupled with fun events, great staff, and truly a converted house almost like a B&B and you have a home run! Well done! read more

Two stars due to the friendliness of the owner and the incredible house they use as a backdrop to their business. If not that, it was a ONE STAR visit. The wine selections are subpar and cheap with an average 3X mark up. Maybe that's the right wine list for the clientele they are seeking, but almost exclusively poorly selected wines. I couldn't drink the unsweetened grape juice they served as an Old Vine Zin. Service on a Friday night was poor, although, again, owner was kind. It was extremely loud with beer guzzling occupants raising their voices in proportion to their consumption. Mostly, it's just sad in it's short of it's potential. Beautiful location and creative owner, but bad wine selections and not a very peaceful place on a Friday. Service was hit or miss; heavy on the miss. Maybe a one off. Could be that hidden gem, but turns out to be disappointing. Again, maybe that's what they're going for, and if cheap wine and loud people sounds awesome to you, I'm certain you'll enjoy. read more

First, Speckled Pear has removed the community seating and the prepared food, bakery and produce counters from my earlier visits and replaced them with true "restaurant" tables. The focus is now squarely on dining, with lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch service. And oh, there's still a wine bar and bottles are still available for purchase. In my humble view a significant positive step. Our servers were excellent, including helpfully explaining some of the wine options (my wife and sister-in-law ordered a flight). Still a fairly casual environment. Great acoustics- I hate echo chambers. We sat close to other guests but were able to easily talk among ourselves without hearing any extraneous neighbor conversations. Dare I say, Speckled Pear is now a {insert tire company name} star-quality dining experience. In Fort Mill! PS - It's a small restaurant which filled quickly and early on the weekday we visited. We would have appreciated if you had let any of the staff know of your disappointments prior to leaving so that we could have done our job to make your evening more enjoyable. Tastings of our wines are offered prior to purchasing so that you do not end up with a glass of something you won't enjoy. There are more wines offered by the bottle only. We accept suggestions from guest on types/brands of wines that may end up on a future Wine List. When entering the Winery, we have our guests start a tab at the bar and then let them choose between the 4 rooms inside, the front porch or any of the many tables in the front and side of building.) We are a seat yourself establishment and guests are able to move about freely. I assure we have not had any "Beer Guzzlers", however the night you were there, there were multiple groups enjoying Birthdays. Please no assumptions on how much has been consumed.
