Came for lunch with hubby, and sat right away. Cute little place and not hard to find.. parking in the back. Only one person making food and one server/bartender. My ticket says her name was Nancy; she didn't introduce herself. I didn't like that she did not take orders from patrons in the order they arrived, she worked from the front. Since we were at the last table, others who came in after us placed their order while we just sat and waited. When she finally came to us, I asked about any specials. She showed that the poke bowls are $10. I got the ahi tuna one. It was very delicious. I saw a smoked peach old fashioned. It was ok. I guess the peach is smoked ahead of time and turned into a syrup, because my drink did not get smoked at all. Hubby bought a corona. Service of course was non existent because she was doing almost everything herself! I had to ask for more water on this 95+ degree day. Her busy ness is not her fault, that falls on management/scheduling. Tvs stay on sports. Looks like they have an upstairs space too. I can image they are packed for happy hour. I am rarely in this town, so I cannot say Ill be back. But I will recommend for others to go try! read more

Whitaker's is a large trendy establishment. Can't imagine it being packed. It was early when I first arrived and I was the only person there. Ordered the garlic sesame tacos. They were delicious. Had the ahi poke bowl special and was a little disappointed at the amount of ahi which was literally like a tablespoon full bathe enormous amount of rice. It was fresh and tasty. Updating my review from a year ago. Came in on a Tues around 6:30pm. Didn't realized it was their happy hr. It goes from 4pm to 7pm. Specials on sushi and drinks which I appreciate. This time around. A year later. Their menu seems to be a lot better. Even though you can't keep up with 3 different type of menus. It's still somewhat easy to follow. Their specials are exceptionally good, The salmon sashimi to the ceviche are some of the things I ordered twice that day.. A couple of sushi I got are Excellent. And I wanted the eel nigiri but it wasn't listed on the menu. Until it showed up on the rainbow row, So I asked them if they can just make me two of that which they did, All in all, service is excellent. Casual and semi busy for a Tuesday. It's been about 2 years since I wrote the 1st review for this place. James was in town from NH so me and Ben took him here for a Saturday dinner after a round of golf. It wasn't busy at all even though it was the Saturday of Independence day 2025. A few people at the bar and a few tables but not crowded at all. We had the crab dip happy which was delicious with the toasted sourdough bread. We had the Crazy Scallops, a little spice and a lot of flavor. The Royal Deluxe with spicy tuna, cucumber, shrimp & aloi The Dragon with surimi salad, unagi, avocado, cucumber, unagi sauce It was ALL excellent. James has been to Japan, NY & Boston and had some top tier Sushi and gave this place glowing remarks. The only downsides continue to be the parking challenge. Maybe when they get the new parking construction complete beside Bank of America, it will get less crowded. They don't have Diet Coke but their water was fast and I liked the price! read more

The Thai Salmon is my personal favorite -- and one I probably never would have tried if the bartender hadn't recommended it. Definitely worth trying! Went there on a Friday date night. The food was good, the spicy garlic edamame was unique and tasty, the gyoza was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the salmon belly nigiri was the best bite of the evening. The service lacked. Lacked enthusiasm. Lacked responsiveness. Lacked interest it taking care of their guest. What is didn't lack was wait time. We were seated right away, ordered in a quick fashion and it still took over 80 minutes to get our food. We sat with empty drinks for over 20 minutes before going to seek out our waitress. The sushi dish that we each had, the chirashi, had the largest pieces of fish I have ever seen at a sushi restaurant, making it difficult, near impossible to eat. I can officially say that Fort Mill has a solid sushi option in their downtown area. I was pleasantly surprised on all accounts. The place reminded me of being back home in Asheville. It gave downtown Asheville vibes. One of the other restaurants had a guitar player outside. It wasn't especially hot so it was a great opportunity to experience a new space. As far as the food the boy and I both got rolls and split the crab dip. The crab dip wasn't as expected but really tasty with toasted baguettes. They brought extra if you ran out. The small place was not especially busy. I noticed they have an upstairs balcony area that wasn't being utilized on a Friday night so I suppose that's why they invited Yelpers. There is parking in the back of the restaurant that I didn't realize until I visited the rest room. All in all great outing. Honestly? Cannot remember what the names of the rolls were but we devoured them! I haven't eaten sushi in a long time possibly years-- this was such a great experience to be welcomed back into sushi! The ambiance was amazing and we dined with a relative who has severe gluten allergies and the customer service did not disappoint! My husband and I have been here quite a few times now for Happy Hour. The food is absolutely amazing! Our usual waitress, Amy, is an absolute gem and it's so nice to be recognized even after not being there for a while (chronic illness puts a hamper on being able to go out and enjoy great food and good atmosphere). This is a relatively new, Japanese fusion restaurant in Fort Mill...and I believe it's a small, growing chain...as there area 2 other sister locations...another one in SC, and one in Georgia. The place is small, but long, sleek and nicely layed out. Decor was minimalistic chic, with some cool lightings showcased in the bar area. They also featured cool overhead music, but it was on too low. Acoustics were quite loud in there, and I thought maybe louder music would have worked better. The bar area itself was really nice, and I appreciated their comfy high chairs. I know this because initially when we arrived at around 5:30 pm, the only seats available were these high chairs by the bar. Luckily, we were able to move to a dining table as it opened up about 5 minutes after we were seated at the bar area. Once seated, we ordered several items to share....Spicy Garlic Edamame, Dragon Roll, Glazed Unago & Avocado Maki and Glazed Unagi & Avocado Pressed Sushi....and finally, this Matcha Cheesecake. Everything was good...but I was most impressed with the dessert. Not only delicious, but loved its chef-inspired presentation! Sadly, that was not the case for the sushi rolls. While delicious enough, the presentation was disappointing. Even for their Pressed Sushi, the presentation was a bit weak...looked nothing like the picture I saw on Yelp. Of all the sushi rolls, think the Dragon Roll was actually the tastiest. I also loved their Edamame...especially so because of their unique spicy sauce! For drinks, my husband got beer (as usual!)...OMB, I think? I got the Neon Coconut...and again, a bit disappointed. The presentation was a yawn...again, nothing like the picture shown on Yelp. The taste was good, but not as strong as I like it. For some reason, I expected better cocktails here...stronger alcohol, and again, fancier presentation. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant...but sadly, there were some disappointments. Service was quite slow...but it was a packed house, so understandable. Also, again, I thought they could have cranked up the presentation of the sushi rolls (and the cocktail!). The nigiri was fine; the pressed hamachi didn't have much taste. I would call it the most boring version of sushi style grandma's meatloaf with zero taste and lacking fish on half of it. There's a lot to like about this place! Yet another new gem of a restaurant in historic downtown Fort Mill. We went early on a weekday to beat the crowds who've been filling this sushi-based establishment since it opened earlier this year. We had excellent service, great drinks and truly fresh seafood. I was quite surprised by the high quality of my happy-hour old-fashioneds - yes, I had two! And the edamame were also a pleasant surprise. I don't normally enjoy chewing on these beans but the spicy garlic sauce made them delicious. I couldn't stop grazing on them. Among the other food items, the two rolls we had were very good. My wife was looking forward to the Surimi Crab Dip, but it was the single disappointment we had from our visit as it lacked flavor. All in all Whitaker's is well worth the visit. The food is amazing here. The salmon carpaccio was my favorite. The ponzu sauce is flavorful and the dishes are pretty. I also got the tuna tataki. Thick pieces of tuna served it a bowl, while pretty, would have been better on a plate so you can cut it yourself into smaller pieces. Happy hour prices of $7 each from 4-7pm. I got the blueberry lavender cocktail ($11) and it was divine. Such a delicate flavor. Several gals got a glass of wine for $5 and it was a very healthy pour. I added a garlic sesame tuna taco ($4) and it was also very flavorful. Someone here really knows how to put flavors together. The only food I didn't care for was the crunchy salmon roll. It was very dry. The inside does not have many tables. If you have a larger group, there are 2 large booths upstairs that can fit a total of 12 people. Our waitress was very sweet and did an excellent job, especially since she mentioned it was only her 3rd day. The atmosphere is very sparse on the upper floor. The building was a bank building built in 1911. The bottom floor booths looked more cozy. The ONLY reason I am not giving this place a 5 star is because they do not accept cash. I personally only use cash. I hate to use a credit card. You could be washing dishes here if you forgot your card, so be wary. read more

My husband wanted to check out Whitaker's for our Saturday date night. We parked in the lot behind the restaurant and entered from the back. We were seated immediately as it as a little after 5:00. Nice clubby ambience. I ordered a Paper Plane Chase cocktail while hubby had a Sapporo. Very tasty! We started off with a sashimi sampler. Delicious slices of salmon, yellowtail and tuna. Then bruleed salmon with truffles, so delicate! Finished off with a tempura shrimp roll which was yummy, sizable and filling. Our server was attentive and professional. The place doesn't take reservations per their website but I am arranging a birthday dinner for 9 ppl so I call. The hostess says no we have to walk in no reservations per the manager. I said that's ridiculous and we want to go there but aren't going to wait all night with such a big party and they just lost close to $1k table if we go somewhere else. Most places at least reservations for 8 or more. I asked the manager to call me back or I would post a review and she never did. We tried Whittaker's for the very first time and it was fantastic from beginning to end. There were not any open tables so we grabbed a seat at the bar. We were immediately greeted with the most friendly server. We decided on the crab dip and the Thai Salmon roll. Where do I begin? The crab dip was amazing and had a bite to it. It paired well with the bread provided. The Thai Salmon roll, hands down has got to be one of my favorite sushi rolls of all time! It was so fresh and the combination of ingredients made this roll delicious. I have been thinking about this roll since I put it in my mouth. We did not try the drinks but did see some amazing looking drinks pass us by! The couple next to us raved about how good they were. We will definitely be trying them next time. The atmosphere was cute and quaint! It's not that big but I think that is a good thing. It was decorated well and has an inviting, modern vibe to it. We plan on coming back and trying multiple things. We will also bring friends as we feel this is a pretty special place and we are so glad they made their home here in Fort Mill! We are always looking for solid sushi that's not too far from us in Steele Creek, so we gave Whitaker's a try. Went in near end of NC State/Oakland basketball game around 9 pm and were seated immediately. There were maybe 6 other groups eating. Brooklyn was our server and very attentive and accommodating to the shellfish allergy in our group. Throughout the night we saw her teeth no less than 6 times, so that prior review that said she never smiles is way off base. Maybe you just need better jokes and/or attitude to get her to laugh. And even if she didn't smile, she doesn't have to. But anyway, back to the food! We ordered cocktails: Bourbon Bramble for me and Lycee Tini (I wasn't listening closely so that may not be the exact name of it) for my lady. She enjoyed hers and while mine was fine, I wouldn't get it again. Not exactly what I wanted but that's on me. Next we ordered the spicy garlic edamame. So. Darn. Tasty. Would smash again. Just the right amount of heat and a huge portion. Our eyeballs were triple the size of our stomachs, but we told that jackass to shut up and ordered 5 rolls anyway. In no particular order: Golden 8/10 Jersey 9/10 Buddha 8.5/10 Pressed Hamachi 9.5/10 Pressed Salmon10/10 Knowing what we now know, 2 rolls and 1 Pressed roll would have been adequate, but we went all in with it being our 1st trip. The pressed rolls are HUGE and have what looks to be 1/3 cup of rice with each piece, but it works! It's just incredibly filing. The salmon was very fresh and the combo of flavors exquisite. The Buddha was a vegetarian roll and unlike anything we have ordered before. I was skeptical but glad we ordered it. The flavor combo that the chef out together here is amazing. I was worried I wouldn't like it with no fish included, but I was wrong. Even with ordering too much, a cocktail and a glass if wine each, we still came away for under $150. We were looking for a fancy date night and we got it. Sorry for not including photos, but we were ravenous and the camera didn't get to rest 1st this time. There are plenty of photos to show you the rolls. I wish there were more folks adventurous enough to give this spot a try. Walked in around 6 on a Saturday night and it was busy. The restaurant is a beautifully restored old bank and they kept the vault which adds to the rustic decor. There's no hostess counter so we were a bit confused and headed towards the bar. The bartender immediately greeted us and handed us the menus. Plenty of options to choose from so we asked for suggestions and every single roll, appetizer and drink was fantastic. By far the worst service and lowest quality sushi I've ever experienced. Be prepared for noise, the acoustics in this place make every single voice even louder. But back to the food and service. To say the service was bad is an understatement. After waiting ten minutes for someone to take the drink and food order, proceeded to wait another 42 minutes for the food to arrive. Mind you, in most restaurants, your server would come by and check on you. Not here. At 42 minutes she did come by and say your food is almost ready. No apology no explanation. Food was brought out 5 minutes later. Asked for check immediately. Sushi is completely unimpressive, and I hate to knock a small business, but I've had better sushi at from Sam's club. The spicy salmon poke bowl had zero flavor or spice. It was like they threw a glob of mayonnaise in the rice. Would have loved to have complained but saw no one to voice the concern too.
