Please note removal of a single star would have only been based on some dishes being a bit bland but I noticed there were mostly white people dining (actually older white people like me) so maybe a lot of them could not take a more authentic dish with some heat. PIECE OF METAL IN FOOD We have loved Andy & Yu's for about a year now and have never had a bad experience. BUT WE JUST HAD A PIECE OF METAL IN OUR FOOD! They use metal scrub brushes to clean their woks and it was in my mom's food. She took a bite of the cashew chicken and felt something hard. She tried to swallow but felt she needed to vomit. She had to physically pull the metal bristle out of her throat. It cut her throat and she threw up blood. We then called the restaurant and they said they use the brushes with metal bristles. They refunded our meal but we spent the whole night on the phone with doctors. We LOVE Andy & Yus so this is so upsetting. read more

We held a work luncheon at the Andy & Yu's Pleasanton location for 40 people and it was amazing! Everyone that attended thoroughly enjoyed the delicious and very fresh food, as well as the excellent service. They could not fit our group in their private dining area, so they put up partitions to give us some separation from the other diners. Very nice. This review is for lunch service on December 8. We had a reservation for five people for lunch. When we arrived, we told them that one person would be joining late and probably not eating. We ordered drinks appetizer and our meals for four people. The fifth person showed up and drank water. When the bill came, we had a 20% service charge added to the bill. I asked the manager what that was about and she said all parties of five or more Get a 20% service fee. It is not anywhere on their website that I can find. I told her that I was not happy that I was a frequent customer and that I wouldn't be coming back. Then as we figured out the bill, we realize that we were actually taxed on the combined bill of our food and beverage and the service charge. That is not how it is supposed to work. I did not realize this until after leaving the restaurant. We each paid $48 for one alcoholic beverage, and one salad plus one appetizer to share that is absolutely outrageous. I am very disappointed in the restaurant and I'm therefore leaving this review. Although I love the food there, I will not return due to this treatment. read more

Sitting outside on the sidewalk is perfect as it's a side street with nobody walking by and most of the tables are under big sycamore trees for shade. We really liked the ambiance here. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the tables are topped with white tablecloths. We arrived quite early for lunch, and were among the first to be seated. I was a bit worried when I looked at the menu. It seemed to offer every popular 'Chinese' dish from the 1960's through the early 2000's. I have loved Chinese food since I was first introduced to it in 1949. I have spent a lifetime searching for good Chinese restaurants, and cooking Chinese food at home. I have a wok that is almost as ancient as I am. The food we were served at Andy's & Yu's reminded me of 'Chinese' food made from recipes that might have come from an old Betty Crocker cookbook. The Beef Tomato Chow Mein was both bland and overcooked. I would never have recognized the Twice Cooked Pork. The Won Ton Soup was rather strange with raw carrot, and raw spinach. The 3 won tons were rather tasteless, and the broth was bland. There are supposed to be quite a few Chinese living in Pleasanton, but I do not believe there were any dining in this restaurant while we were there. Once again, the setting is very nice, but if you are hungry for really good Chinese food, this restaurant is not a good choice. read more

My husband and I reserved the private room at Andy & Yu's to host a family lunch and tea ceremony prior to our wedding. Nicole went above and beyond for us, clearing out space near one of the entrances so we could use the more "picturesque" area for the tea ceremony. The staff also provided us hot water for our tea ceremony, which was very much appreciated. The private room was spacious enough for our group of 23 and we had a very filling banquet style lunch. We were amused that no chopsticks were provided (we are Chinese) so it felt a little less authentic, but overall the food was decent and so much food was provided that we had a ton of leftovers. Since we reside in the East Bay, and we are elderly, this establishment has been on our radar since it opened. We attended a festival over the weekend and decided to have lunch somewhere in town. A quick search led us to Andy & Yu's. An upscale restaurant with white tablecloths, nice decor, and a wonderful staff to make the experience enjoyable. The restaurant has three areas, the bar in the back, an outdoor seating area, and the main dining room. The food was excellent, and the wait staff were incredible! We've never had such attentive service. We decided to try the lunch specials and ordered the Brocolli Beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken, both of which were excellent. The meal inludes the main entree, a cup of hot and sour soup, and fried rice. We asked for half chow main and half fried rice, and they happily accommodated. The only disappointment was the egg roll appetizer. There are only two. The egg rolls were so good we could have easily ordered a second round. They were crispy on the outside and super flavorful on the inside. Everything we tasted was so good we ordered some to go. Easy access to the restaurant as there is parking in front and a good-sized lot in the back. The husband and I were long overdue for a date night. We decided to try someplace new. It's pretty inside, perfect for a date. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The beverage menu offers great wine, cocktails, or beer. The food menu is impressive, and the servings are very generous. We ordered mushu Vegtable, chicken salad, beef broccoli, fried rice, and noodles. Everything was great. Fresh, flavorful, and not greasy.
