Salt and pepper calimari
Jennifer C.

Just based on food, this is a 3.5 star but the ambiance and service was definitely good and upscale. That said, the food is what will either convince me to come back or not and the meal, while enjoyable, wasn't good enough value to bring me back. Got the salt and pepper calamari, walnut prawns, string beans, and beef chow fun. Calimari and walnut prawns were the best items of the meal and while green beans were a generous portion and the chow fun noodles were fresh, both lacked the layered flavor I want with my food.

This was my first time at Andy and Yu's, and I must say I was impressed and pleasantly suprised! The ambiance is large and open but also very cozy and intimate. The restaurant is a great place for anything from a date night, taking the kids out, business dinners, or going out with friends or family. I loved how the food was not overly salty or greasy. The vegetables tasted very fresh and flavorful. The asparagus was perfectly crunchy. I really loved the Hong Kong style noodles, and I would recommend them. Again, I'm not a big mushroom fan but omg these ones were so plump and juicy and delicious! The kung pao chicken was good, although I could have stood for a bit more punch in sauce or spice. I loved the fluffy fried rice and even though it was the vegetarian option, I found it to be extremely satisfying and rich. Not pictured is one of the highlights for me - the sizzling rice soup. Each bowl came with a hearty amount of chicken and sizzling rice and vegetables - I would highly recommend this dish. The service was extremely efficient, warm and polite. Thanks Andy and Yu's for a great dinner out with my mom :)

Chicken Chow Mein
Sara A.

Service was good we were sat pretty quick with no wait. They were very friendly and food came out pretty quick. It was a bit busy but not loud which was nice. I ordered the orange peel beef, chicken chow mein and spicy prawns. The orange beef was ok too much breading on the beef and couldn't really taste much of the beef. Would not get this again. The spicy prawns were good they were crispy good flavor they were just not spicy at all. That's my only complain would deff get it again. The chow mein was ok felt like it was missing flavor. But it had a good amount of chicken in it. The portions are pretty good size had tons of left overs. I also ordered a lychee martini it was good and refreshing a little too sweet for me but had a good balance. Parking can be hit or miss with the parking lot in the rear of the restaurant.

This place is just wonderful for banquets and special events. The staff is terrific, and the food is great. We recently ordered take-out for just a regular weeknight. The food was very satisfying... What we ordered: + Beef with orange flavor - this was very good. The beef was tender and had a slight sweet flavor. + Fried rice - what can it say, it was typical fried rice + Garlic noodles - good, but could have been a little more garlicky + Green bean - nice flavor and still crunchy + Peking duck - tasted good, but it didn't have the Peking duck skin. Came with Chinese tortillas, scallions, and plumb sauce. Overall, the food didn't blow me away, but still very good and satisfying.

Cream Cheese Rangoons

Really enjoyed the service at Andy & Yu's! The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. You can tell they've established relationships with those that regularly come in. A nice restaurant that can be booked for private events with options indoor and outdoor. Could be a good choice for a large party indoors but not completely private as they offer room dividers shared with other diners. Unfortunately the food did not deliver on what we were hoping for.. The cream cheese rangoons were very salty and a small portion. The Crispy Chicken was not crispy at all since they are smothered in a sauce. I was thrown off by the sauce because the menu doesnt mention anything about a sauce- if I could guess it would be a lemon or orange chicken? Also very salty.. The honey walnut prawns tasted very strange.. lots of mayo and maybe even a hint of wasabi. We only ate a few pieces. The breading was also mushy.

The garlic noodles , the orange chicken, the sweet and sour tofu , the shrimp.
Priya S.

Too much hype for the place as all dishes taste same . The sweet and sour tofu , oil smells bad .The orange chicken is just ok , the shrimp said spicy but is sweet . The taste and flavor for all food is same . The garlic noodles tasted bland and no garlic in it .

Chow Fun Gluten-Free, Deluxe Vegetables Gluten-Free, Fried Rice

Andy's & Yu's is my daughter's favorite restaurant located in downtown Pleasanton. They have a great menu with delicious appetizers and entrees. The reason we dine here is because they offer gluten free options for my daughter. Our go-to order is Chow fun, fried rice, vegetables and hot and sour soup. Big fan of Andy & Yu's!

We came here for a graduation party. The food was really good. The restaurant was clean and well decorated. I enjoyed the honey walnut prawns and garlic noodles. The staff were attentive and accompanied.

Red eggs & ginger (some eggs missing)
Allison Y.

We came here for lunch and later hosted a Red Egg & Ginger party here. We had great experiences both times, but the party was an especially positive experience and I couldn't be happier we chose Andy & Yu's as the venue. Everyone we spoke with was extremely attentive and helpful. Megan helped day of and I organized everything and asked tons of questions to Nicole via email, who was super responsive, professional and knowledgeable. The restaurant made the red eggs and ginger for us and walked me through all the options for food, beverages, etc. The experience was great and the food was delicious. This isn't the "most" traditionally Chinese food but everyone who attended really enjoyed the food. I heard from many people also that they loved the lobster tail appetizer when they normally don't like lobster! I heard a guest say the same about prawns after trying the honey walnut prawns. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here, especially for another event!

Beef Chow Fun (wet/with gravy)- off menu, black bean sauce
A L.

Friendly & efficient service. Not a big wine selection (& not surprising for a local Chinese restaurant), especially for non CA wines. Wor won ton soup was filling- best to add white pepper. Beef chow Fun (wet/gravy style) w black bean sauce was not as strong/distinct as we hoped for but still good. When the regular beef chow fun was delivered, the waitstaff noticed it wasn't our special order and quickly had it returned and resolved. The black bean version had none of the original quality of vegetables (asparagus, carrots, broccoli), just onions , green & red peppers but we still appreciated the correction effort. The brown sauce still seems similar to triple crown specialty. Note chow fun can be prepared (dry/sauteed or wet/w gravy). All dishes had plenty fresh vegetables and proteins.

Hot & Sour Soup and Chow Mein

The taste and quality sure have taken a hit recently. This has been our go to take out for a while, since we live down the street. However, this last trip was probably our last. I called in an order, first mistake. I repeated twice shrimp AND veggie chow mein. The host I kept repeating 'VEGGIE!'. Fine, guess I'll skip tonight's protein. The veggie hot and sour soup is a hard pass. Very bland and eh. Oh and by veggies they mean like 5 veggies. The chow mein is yummy, but if you want the right ingredients, I suggest typing out your order and checking it before you take it home. I usually don't pay attention to other patrons in the line, but I do want to mention the host was not very nice to the door dash people. In fact she was quite curt to the dashers. I understand the restaurant is busy, but if you're not slowing down to make sure you get orders right and are rude to service curriers, then I don't believe you should be afforded any grace for your mistakes. But she was splendid and asked an older gentleman if he wanted utensils and any condiments. I suggest not being particular towards certain folk, especially those fellow service workers. Hope this review helps, and I am sad we have to scratch Andy and Yu's off the take out roulette.

The Hong Kong noodles with veggies in brown sauce ..... is there a fish or beef base to this broth or is it ok for vegetarians? Thank you.

I'm sure she makes everyone feel that way. She communicates with the chef and they got our order perfect (no onions). The zha jiang noodles were our favorite. The texture of the noodles was bouncy and perfectly cooked and the veggies were fresh and neatly sliced. This dish has impressive qualities and the flavors were well balanced. The hot chili wontons had a nice kick to them and not too spicy. The potstickers are a good vegetarian option and the tofu, mushroom and basil worked well together and that butterfly made out of carrots was gorgeous. I hear the chef makes them by hand. Thank you to the server for helping us with our order and being so kind. Our dinner was superb. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We will definitely be back next time we're in town.

It's kind of pricey, especially compared to the original location in Oakland, but the food is authentic Hong Kong/Cantonese style cuisine. This will definitely satisfy your carb/MSG cravings, lol! We got takeout for a weekday lunch. This is our usual order now: Fresh sliced fish porridge, $14.95 - they always do a great job with this. This is the Cantonese equivalent of chicken noodle soup. The texture is just right, there are plenty of fish pieces, and the flavor is classic, right down to the ginger slivers. Shrimp rice noodle roll $9.50 - DH's favorite dim sum item. It is tender, and the shrimp are large and crispy. Comes with the classic soy-based sauce. Crab meat braised E - fu noodle $24.95 - DH's favorite noodle. This type of noodle is very soft and absorbs all of the flavors from the crab pieces and sauce. Great choice for seafood lovers! Shrimp silky egg chow fun $24.95 - little one's favorite. This one just has such a great combination of flavors. The velvety "gravy" really ties everything together and makes it go down smoothly. This one has flat noodles (cheung fun), like the classic beef chow fun. Comfort food for sure! Sautéed Chinese green $22.95 - this looks to be pan seared choy sum. Seems kind of expensive, but they actually pack a lot of greens into the box. They don't have the veggie clay pot anymore, Barbecue pork $15.95 - they do a pretty good job with this one too. The flavors are really good and interestingly enough it comes with these little beans on the bottom. Pork tends to be a little bit on the lean side. Portion size seems okay. We didn't get the beef chow fun because we didn't need that much food. But that one is a classic here and they usually do a great job with it too. Food is usually ready very quickly and everything was steaming hot. Staff are efficient and friendly. Give it a try; this place is consistently good and I highly recommend it!

We ordered the egg tofu with veggies, beef brisket, ham and egg fried rice, and the chicken with Chinese sausage clay pot. The beef brisket was the clear winner -- tender, flavorful, and they give you a generous portion. No tiny rationed pieces hiding in sauce. The overall flavor profile was balanced and comforting without feeling overloaded with MSG. The egg tofu was light and nicely seasoned, and the fried rice delivered that classic Hong Kong café vibe. The clay pot had great flavor too, though I personally prefer larger pieces of chicken with less bone. Just a texture preference -- seasoning was on point. Prices are reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. You leave full without feeling like you overpaid. Ambiance is casual and simple. One drawback during the summer: there were quite a few flies while we were dining. The doors were closed, so it was a bit puzzling and definitely distracting. Overall, good flavors, good portions, good prices. I'd come back -- especially for that brisket -- just hoping the fly situation improves during warmer months.
