After organizing a red egg and ginger party in the past at Andy and Yu's outdoor dining area and having a wonderful experience, I was pleased to find out they offer catering as well. I placed an order by phone after reviewing the menu online. It was easy to substitute and add items in addition to the Menu B offerings. I placed the order a couple weeks in advance of the event date. When the food arrived, the person who delivered the food also set up the trays in the serving area as well. The food was just as tasty as I remembered it and all of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the food as well. The standout dishes were the Peking duck with bao (not part of the catering menu) and the crispy chicken. I am so glad we went with Andy and Yu's for our event and look forward to dining with them again. read more

First time eating at this place. Service was excellent. Quality of food was amazing. We ordered the soup and crispy eggplant for appetizers. The soups are served individually. Four main dishes, we had the chow, fun, Compal, chicken, half order of tea, smoked duck, and Szechuan beef. Everything was fresh however, Szechuan beef was highly battered and a bit oily. read more

Very overpriced. I ordered take out. This is what I received: 1 order of pot stickers, 1 General Chao's chicken, 1 salt and pepper prawns, and 1 chicken chow mein with added prawns. First of all, the order was wrong. General Chao's chicken was not correct. I have no clue what they added. Quality was subpar. Whatever the substitute was that they gave me was pretty tasteless and chewy (ended up throwing away). Cost was approximately $90. I counted 8 shrimp in the salt and pepper prawns. The good: the food has clearly labeled gluten free items and the vegetables in all dishes are perfectly cooked--still with a bite, good tasting. The less good: all the dishes we got were pretty bland. They were good but just not complex sauces. My family and I were regulars here every Friday night for over 2 years. They had consistently good food and great customer service until they didnt... Over the past few months, i've noticed the quality of their food decline. They started taking shortcuts with their food. Their honey walnut "prawns" used to be 8 jumbo prawns. They changed it to 12 shrimps instead of prawns. I feel this is misleading. Please update your menu to honey walnut "shrimp" instead because what you serve is shrimp not prawns. There is a difference in quality and the shrimps are small. One star because my son loves the peking duck. The service is a little snobby. Overpriced, over rated Chinese food. 33 years ago our friends invited us to a Chinese restaurant in San Ramon named Uncle Yu's for dinner. The ambiance was beautiful, great and friendly service and the food extremely delicious. Although the restaurant moved to Pleasanton years later (rebranded as Andy & Yu's) we followed the restaurant because many of the San Ramon staff also moved to PTOWN and improved on the menu. For our family and many of our friends, overall Andy & Yu's is THE place to go in the Trivalley area. read more

I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be fantastic. We went there recently and it was barely edible. Our table ordered 4 entrees - One of the entrees was supposed to be breaded meat. What we got was just the breading - seriously. There was literally no meat inside. It was just deep fried breading. We didn't eat much of it because it obviously wasn't good. But I took the leftovers home and once I was home, I inspected it more closely and saw there was literally nothing inside the breading. Really, really disappointing as this had been a favorite place. Today i went with a friend for lunch to celebrate my birthday. We were greeted by our Waiter: Maria who wasn't friendly to began with. Then, as we were ordering our food, we kept reminding her for all vegetarian options. She even repeated to us that we want Vegetarian option. I ordered mapu tofu( spelling error), she told us its with pork, I asked for "vegetarian option." The waiter replied back with "yes we do." So i moved on with my order. After our soup, we received our order and we were told "you ordered A Lot of Food." We felt super awkward. But we kinda laughed it off. Then, few mins passed and we realized we got meat in our tofu. We approached the waiter and she was absolutely rude with her words. My friend said "we ordered vegetarian version of mapo tofu, she said no its with pork. I said "we kept saying vegetarian and you brought us with pork." She kinda went off on us and gave us "bitchy look." We asked for the manager at this point. The manager came and apologized. However, the waiter never came to us with an apology. It was such a scene. We as customers we're trying to let them know how awful it is for us to eat meat let alone pork. I don't think they ever realized the mistake they made. It was the worst experience. If you are vegetarian beware. I threw up in a Starbucks near by. I felt so disgusted and disrespected read more

The atmosphere is welcoming. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate our party of three. Maybe they were a little short staffed that evening but it took a bit to get a wait staff's attention to take orders. The wonton soup was good, as was the chow fun, the sautéed green beans, and Mongolian Beef. The portions were pretty nice sized. Probably because I didn't pay close enough attention to the description on the menu, the fried calamari wasn't what I thought it would be. It's calamari steak pieces that are fried, not rings and tentacles. It tasted ok though. Can't remember the desserts we had, but our friend had some frozen ball of mango ice cream coated with white and dark chocolate. Pretty, but it was so frozen that it was difficult to even crack it open to eat. Once it thawed a while, it was ok. Not too bad of an experience, will have to come back for a return visit. read more

Honestly, it was okay. If you're looking for a traditional Chinese restaurant, you're not going to find it here. To better understand, the food here is good, not great. It's the overall presentation. A perfect example, there were no Chinese for listed for any of the menu items. This place caters to the American palate (I.e.: sweet and sour dishes). If you're use to the traditional banquet style dining, this isn't the place to go. It felt more like a fine dining experience. Meals are served individually (as shown in the photo with the eggplant) as opposed to family style (where it's one dish per plate that everyone shares) where there is a lazy Susan turntable in the middle of the table. Service was gracious here. Parking along the street and a lot in the back. You access the restaurant from the parking lot. Overall, this does have a more intimate atmosphere. Not much for traditional Chinoiserie decor. Not many Asians waiters or patrons (usually an odd sign when you don't see the demographics of the cultural group dining as their respective cuisine). read more

I have eaten at Andy & Yu's several times and the food has been fine. My experience on Labor Day was not the case. Waitress was fine. However if a dish comes out and it's not to your satisfaction and when the waitress ask you was there anything wrong with the dish and you mention what you disliked about the dish. The waitress should do one of two things. Ask if they can replace the dish or take the dish off your bill. Not explain how the dish is prepared and leave the dish on your bill. I wasn't looking for something for free. I should not have to pay for a dish that wasn't eaten. That experience didn't sit well with me and I will not return. read more

Food is outstanding. Honestly, the best Chinese food you'll eat this side of China. The service is incredible. From having your water filled without ever asking for it to fresh plates between courses and knowledgeable servers - just perfect. To top it all, they have a brilliant wine selection - one of the best in the bay. We were the last party of the night to get seated for a birthday on NYE and I just felt like the staff were so burnt out that the service we got lacked tremendously. When we ordered, Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about what gluten free means and how to deal with gf customers! The ambience was interesting-- big windows, lots of seating, and a bar. Food was good. Gf soy sauce was provided. We had the mixed veggie with tofu, snow peas with prawns, and Peking chicken (we expected it to be dressed like Peking duck but it was rather more similar to orange chicken. Still good though). The vegetables we received were cooked perfectly; fresh, flavorful, still slightly crunchy and not too soft. I also had the lychee mocktail. Was it the best food I've ever had?
