We have been going her for years. We have been getting really bad customer service and experiencing rudness, and hostility from JUDY, one of their workers at the Union City location. This morning we ordered 2 boxes of danish special for the first time. She was handling the danish with NO GLOVES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. Last time I reserved 2 whole loaves of bread and made me pay for them in advance. THE LOAVES OF BREAD SHE GAVE US WERE NOT FRESH! We felt we were being discrimated and picked on. I always drool when I pass by the Anderson's bakeries inside of the mall so I decided it would be a great idea to go ahead and stop by this location to skip out on the mall crowd. It is a - stand in line and get a number type of restaurant, no waiter/tress. However I would say this place is better to buy some bread from than actually have a brunch, like we had planned. I got the cheesy bread and regretted it because it was just sliced bread with a strip of cheese that wasn't even that great, unfortunately. There wasn't much variation at all of lunch items there was just a one sided piece of paper that had the menu on it- so defiantly lack of variation. Come by for some bread to make sandwiches at home or as a little snack but maybe not a meal if you're anything like me! This has replaced Panera for our regular "sandwiches for dinner" place. The service varies a lot, but the sandwiches are always damned good. They're also pretty big. I've tried quite a few of the different varieties, and I always leave happy. And it's nice to be able to grab a pretty pastry or some fresh pesto bread on your way out for the next morning's breakfast. 'Cause there is no room for dessert. read more

I really do not go there very often, but today I stopped by and bought a creme brulee and I must say it was one of the worst I ever tried, it was a no flavor custard super sweet with a too thick layer of caramelized sugar. I rarely do updated reviews, so this one is worth it! Andersen Bakery is LITERALLY killin' it with its renovated interior, awesome menu design, and new bakery items!! My family enjoys dining here on a weekly basis - it is unreal how this Andersen has grown since its opening :'). Do the 1/2 soup and 1/2 sandwich (or really, anything else Andersen offers)!! Vegetarians and meat-eaters-who-want-to-eat-a-vegetarian-meal take note: I have recently discovered the combo of putting together my favorite soup: tomato basil ravioli and the tomato caprese avocado sandwich (on ciabatta). It is a tomato heaven and the sandwich is actually so legit. Pretty large portions will keep you full way past dinner time. Keep up the great work Andersen! It gets packed during the lunch hours nowadays, so I would come here if a tablet or good book. :) Free wifi, too (see older review)! The only complaint I have here is that it gets kind of loud with all the patrons who dine for lunch. Dec,13,2014, it is after this Anderson Bakery's remodel, re-opening. I went there today. Just order clam chowder soup and apple pastry. 1) the place look more open (they knock down one wall) Look very spacious, much nicer. 2) the employee(the one serve me) is super-polite. Maybe re-opening. (that is nice). 3) See, I think some-other-place (don't want to name here) 's clam chowder is better than here. BUT, I like the pastry here, a lot of different from some cheese pastry to apply pastry and others. 4) I found out, you could pre-order stollen and Yule-Log, that is very nice. Will come back again. To me this is the only best place in Union City. That has a upscale, posh, and a touch of european to it. For $3.75 a cup of soup not only you get soup. But you get three slices of bread with butter served in a small wicker basket. Wow what a great deal. You're food gets delivered to you're table. I always get the turkey and avocado on sourdough bread. So very good, looks like they make their own homemade mayo. Homemade mayo has a smoother texture. Then the jar mayo that has a jelly like texture. They also sell breads and sweet pastries. This company has put bread on the forefront unlike Panera Bread. You won't get ripped off. OH Andersen.. what would I do without you? I come here today to share my love of this "delightfully european" bakery that has stolen my heart since, Grain D'or days. (wait, its the same company right??) I come here AT LEAST once a week (i wish I was kidding) and I find myself browsing through the displayed breads and pastries as if it were my first time! I seriously don't understand why I act this way, as if I cannot point exactly where each muffin or tart is placed, blindfolded! This is where I go to get my avocado fix, because they have a sweet 'choose two' deal where you can pick two items between a sandwich, salad or soup. I highly recommend their Turkey Swiss and Avocado on whole wheat bread, with a clam chowder soup. Although it says half, you end up getting a whole sandwich. Other items that you can't go wrong with are their: pisanos (reminds me of a pizza), creamy french (custard spread between french bread), walnut cranberry bread, and their strawberry tart. Tried half the Roasted Tomato Caprese and Avocado sandwich and half garden salad today. I was surprised to see how huge their portions are for half and half's! Just check out my picture. The sandwich I tried was pretty tasty with yummy flavors. Roasted tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, avocado, and romaine lettuce on a toasted ciabatta bun. Yum. The garden salad had mixed greens and romaine lettuce topped with diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, Swiss cheese and croutons with a side of balsamic vinaigrette. What's not to like about this place, the breads are very fresh and flavorful, the desserts are delightfully light to rich depending on what you like to eat. You come in and the wait time is very short if any. Order soup and sandwhich with something to drink then hookup your laptop very peaceful. You can come here on your lunch break and relax .Tip if you should buy a loaf of bread to bring home don't have them slice it, their bread slicing machine makes the slices way too thin! I love how there is Wi-Fi here. Best of all... it's FREE! I haven't been to Anderson Bakery for a long time since I was out of the country for a while...so I did not know that they now had Wi-Fi. Knowing this now, I'm definitely coming here to study or to just read. ^_^ I would give them 5 stars but because there are no outlets in the bakery to plug in my laptop cord and keep my computer alive when it runs out of battery, I am keeping that one star to myself. I guess maybe this is to prevent people from overstaying? I love how there is a bakery in Union City where I can sit down and relax while nibbling on my delicious strawberry pastry. Studying here is a definitely a different from studying at a coffee shop *cough* Starbucks *cough*. The atmosphere is great. It is not too loud; there is nice music playing in the background; and the decor is very nice. There are bathrooms in the bakery! Perfect for studying, meeting up with people, etc. I went to the bakery after 4PM with my brother and it was somewhat empty, but that was fine with me because I did not have to wait in line and I had many choices of where I wanted to sit. This was a 4 star place, but since the new remodel, their service is slower, the layout of the new counter causes too much traffic, food is more expensive, and they give you less. I guess this is what happens when you become more profit driven huh? The new layout causes too much traffic in the front doors. People are left roaming around looking at the desserts, pastries, menus and it causes confusion to who is actually in line. I do like the fact they actually have a sofa chair for people who have to-go orders now, although, it's too close to the register, and again, it causes traffic. They made more room for the counter and honestly they have too much room. It takes them many more steps to grab the bread, dessert, drinks and to use the equipment. This results in slower service. I actually see employees during lunch hour prancing around frantically because they so much more distance to travel to do their job. Okay, on to the food! The bread is always fresh here and I love the sandwiches as well. My recommendations are: BLT: Very good BLT, in addition they put cucumbers, avocados, little bean sprouts, which freshens up the sandwich up a lot and gives it a nice crunch. Note in the sandwiches they put extra bread in the middle. So its TRIPLE the bread! They used to give you pickles as well, but I guess they don't anymore (on to-go orders at least). Clam chowder: Creamy, good clam chowder. Its not too thick, a bit on the watery end, but still delicious. They used to give you FREE bread with a order of soup, but now they charge you 20 cents for two pieces of bread. Creamy French: Pastry, basically french bread with some sweet white creamy sauce in the middle...pause. One of the more popular items at Andersens. Its a must order if you are ordering pastries. International cheese: Cheese and bread, simple as that. The bread is so fresh and delicious. The cheese is oily, but man, its really good. I dont know what else they put in that cheese but it's delicious. Tip, ask them to toast up the bread, the cheese will melt a little bit and makes the bread more crispy. Its much better when it's toasted. Make sure they don't microwave it though, some stores microwave it to heat it up resulting in rubbery bread. Jalapeño bread: Same thing above but with Jalapenos!!! This Andersen's chain has the same delicious sandwiches, pastries and fresh bread, although, if you need a to-go order to grab it back to work during lunch time, plan on being late, because they take a while now to get our your food. Well, at least you won't be disappointed when you eat your food though. read more

I don't like giving bad reviews, but this place didn't do it for me. Food was edible and it was clean, so thats half of it. But it felt very unwelcoming, and the food was nothing better than edible. Ravioli tomato soup tasted disturbingly similar to Chef's Boyardee. Sandwich was bland. Coffee was really good, so that was nice. Nothing made up for the unfriendliness of the staff though. Wouldn't greet us, mostly acted like we were a burden for being there. I don't expect much more than a hello btw. read more

I thought I would give it a try since I have heard friends raving about it. The place is clean and big but I am disappointed with the menu. Seems to be too simple for a big franchise. Bread looks delicious and better quality than Panera. I tried half fruity salad with oriental dressing which was ok, nothing special about it and half of ham and cheese on pain de champagne bread. I don't like sandwich period. I thought I may have to throw it away. However, ham wasn't salty as I thought it would be and bread was fluffy and tasty. They also have soups and sandwiches. Quite spacious and clean. Totally mind blown that I could eat such a delicious sandwich! Stopped by randomly since I was at Office Depot around 2pm and there was a decent amount of people, but the service was quick. They take forever!!!!! Was so craving my fave Farmers chicken salad sandwich! I almost left cuz the first person was SUPER rude to start with, but I was starving. Located in the same plaza as Comcast, Coldstone's and Gerry's Grill in Union Landing, Andersen Bakery is a great place to get fresh baked bread or to study. I've been here for lunch, and the food is pricey but not that great. The soups are good but taste of the microwaveable variety and the sandwiches are alright. The dessert, such as the tropical flan, is made in-house and surprisingly tasteless. Being flan and tropical, I thought I'd get a citrusy, light version of creamy flan. But as you can see in the photos, there is only a light layer of flan on top, followed by ounces and ounces of whipped cream and cake. HUH?!? Is this flan or cake? I'm confused. The huge amount of whipped cream was actually pretty gross. NOWHERE IN FLAN IS THERE WHIPPED CREAM. So weird :( They don't offer any in-house smoothies or even lemonade, the only drinks you can buy are the canned and bottled variety. Basically, the only thing to get here are the fresh baked bread they have displayed on tables and to the side and also some of their pastries are good, like the strawberry pastry and cheese danishes. Other than that, I would skip on lunch and just use their free wi-fi to study! There isn't a lot of traffic so it is a nice, quiet place to get some work done. read more
