A box of Señorita bread from Starbread is about as nostalgic as it gets! This location is very close to my office so someone always brings a box in whenever we have a big meeting or event. This time, I figured I would be the one to bring the goods, and stopped in at 8:30am on a Friday. Interaction and transaction at the small counter was simple enough, just stating the amount of bread I wanted and receiving the box a couple of seconds later. Starbread is a must whenever I'm in the Bay Area (the ones in SoCal just aren't as good). I've been going here for a few years now but I can't help but notice that their señorita bread keeps shrinking. They're still tasty but usually gone after 2-3 bites. As for the service, every time I go it's the same big, grumpy guy. Definitely not the Filipino hospitality and service that I'm accustomed to. The world would probably freeze over if he even cracked a smile. This place strictly follows their Covid 19 protocols that they still only allow one person/group at a time. Union city branch ! The bread is fantastic but the (male) cashier is not friendly and does not belong at the front of the house. Since day 1 this guy has been so snotty and has no customer appeal and should work in the back and not meeting customers. I've had Starbread many times and for years before the Newark (closed a long time ago) or Union City locations. First introduced by our fam in Vallejo. But today was a disappointment. I had a few pieces from the top and they were made perfect hot and fresh but when I got home and my husband was grubbing on the rest of it he said it's hard like they are old. I don't know if they hid some old ones at the bottom and reheated them because they were hella hard and dry. I never had them like that even if they sat in my house for a couple days and we would heat up leftovers. The color was also significantly darker than the ones I had on the top. Now for the negative: The person working the front counter during my visit today had a terrible attitude and zero customer service skills. They were rude, explaining to me that there is only one customer allowed in the store and that there's signs all over. And when I asked for price just points the signs. It really put a damper on the experience. When you're excited to try a local favorite running into a person who clearly does not belong in a customer-facing role is disappointing. I was so happy to know there was a location in Union City. I normally go to the Pittsburg or Tracy location, but was staying in nearby Hayward. I was first inside. Currently, just 1 customer inside at one time. A line started to form. Like the other locations, they serve a few more items, but not much. I ordered 2 big boxes. The lady helping me was super nice. While driving I started eating them since they are the best when freshly made. Something was different. I ate a few more and realized that they are quite dry. Later in the day I warmed up a few and noticed how small they were. And then it dawned on me that the sweet sugary butter is not inside of the bread, which made it very dry and not as sweet. It's basically just like eating a plain bread roll. And yes, I even tried several from the bottom of the box. More noticeable after warming them up because the bread is more dense. It's a bit disappointing because I bought a big box to bring back home with me in Oregon. Unfortunately I'll have to stick to the Tracy and Pittsburg locations from now. read more

My second time at Starbread and this time I was able to find a location close to where I live! So glad I don't have to drive all the way to Pacifica anymore to get some Senorita bread. The bakery itself is not that big and they only allow 2 people inside at a time. I ordered 15 pieces which came out to $9.00. FYI they only accept credit cards with a minimum purchase of $10 so make sure to bring cash. The Senorita bread is extremely sweet with a lot of sugar and butter. It is very dense and soft. I would probably enjoy it more if it was less sweet but it is still delicious nonetheless. They have other pastries there that I would probably want to try next time I stop by. I've been hearing about starbread for a while and finally got the chance to try them. They only let 1 customer in at a time and they had a minimum $10 for card transaction. The store was small and they had their señorita bread as display. I got 15 pieces of their famous señorita bread and it was delicious! My family and I ate the whole box within the same day and loved the bread! The bread is so fluffy and airy with a buttery sweet taste, probably from the butter sugar coat on the bottom. Also recommend microwaving it for a few second if it got cold since it'll make it soft again. read more
