    Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast
    John D.

Cool concept - lunch and supporting a non-profit biz with a mission. Everyone was friendly - employees & diners. The menu is simple with a nice variety of choices. So we ordered the Braised Pork Cuban and Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast with an iced Chai Tea. While you're waiting are table games to play and toys for the kiddos. Of course there's no rush so you can finish your game after food. Our food was delivered very well presented! I didn't expect this - it was a great surprise. The braised pork was excellent & came in between a "King's Hawaiian" tasting bun. The meat was tender and flavorful. The salmon avocado toast was stacked tall. The highlight was the breaded lemon cream cheese tomato. Memorable to say the least. Our meal was delicious with nice sized portions. It exceeded our expectation and in all honesty could have been served at 2-3 times the cost. This is a must do place for a meal. I can guarantee an excellent meal with a side bonus of helping people!

First time here but the coffee was quick good and strong. Staff was very kind. Very chill spot. Cafe looked like they have a stage and games to play as well. Will definitely be back.

Well, it is cold and wet here in Central New Mexico, but warm up with us as we visit the Ancora Cafe and Bakery. Join a few of the boys from the VA Creative Writing Group as we venture into yet another new (to us) restaurant with excellent food and efficient service in a setting that will have you walking around to take it all in. 5 stars simply because I love their story. A business designed to help recovering addicts develop skills in the restaurant industry. But also, the food is really good. I had the Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast. Very good! Was not expecting the fried cream cheese tomato. Very fresh! BF had the creme brûlée french toast with sausage. Ambiance is very artsy. They have live music/poetry in the afternoons. Service was great.

Delicious homemade cookies and a great Chai made from liquid not powder. This place is awesome and if you're comfortable indoors without a mask it's a great place to hang out and hear live music.

Ancora Cafe is a bakery/cafe connected to the Imperfectly Perfect recovery space. Truly an awesome concept - it is a cafe that provides vocational training for people in recovery through foodservice and provides a welcoming meeting space for all. We had their smothered veggie breakfast burrito which was easily large enough for two. Their red chile was bold and complex with sweet, smoky notes and an almost mole-like consistency. The green chile had the right amount of heat and was a lighter counterbalance to the red chile. The burrito itself was delicious and noticeably made with care. The beans that accompanied it were well seasoned, not bland. Their coffee is very good. My wife's oat milk latte was creamy and well made. I enjoyed my tea. There are numerous other options such as GIANT tiramisu and cinammon rolls, which are sure to hit the sweet spot. We saw french toast served at another table and it looked so good. With so many great options we are sure to go again!

My wife and I stopped in Ancora for a quick bite to eat for breakfast, and we loved every part of our visit! We were immediately welcomed by their staff and we could tell we picked a good spot. I had a drip coffee and she got an iced dirty chai latte, and we split their Orange & Walnut French Toast which was so delicious! Ancora is not only good on the outside, but good on the inside, too. They provide jobs and a safe space to folks in recovery. It's a lovely cafe with lots of heart and gorgeous art on every wall. Wish we were locals to stop by more often!

The bread is clearly baked fresh and was nice and crusty on the outside and fluffy with the perfect chew on the inside. My mini me 1 inhaled her grilled cheese (of which my husband ordered the full size and also demolished his), and mini me 2 and I shared the toasted tuna melt. Good balance of tuna, celery, and bread ratio, but I didn't dig the olives in it. There's a mini kale salad that comes with entrees, and it was healthy and palatable for kale. We did end up balancing that green with the pistachio cruffin and pistachio chocolate chip cookie. Would definitely go back for the cruffin with its flaky layers and luscious pastry cream. Cookie was less impressive but still worth the impulse buy. Indoor and breezy outdoor seating available. Highly recommend!

It always looks like there's going to be a wait, but there never is. You go to the counter, place your order, find a table, and they bring the food right out to you. This place puts a unique and delicious twist on classic breakfast dishes, and everything we tried was outstanding. You can immediately tell they know exactly what they're doing. They even make their own English muffins, and they are to die for -- fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. We loved them so much we even bought a bag to take home. I also had a blood orange Jr. mimosa, which was off-the-charts delicious. Everything here is fresh, fresh, and more fresh. The bacon deserves a special mention -- phenomenal, cooked to perfection with amazing flavor. Whether you're craving something sweet or leaning toward the savory side, you're completely covered. If you're on the fence about coming here, don't be -- you will not be disappointed. Before leaving, we stopped to share our experience with the manager. She was incredibly engaged, professional, and genuinely eager to listen. We simply wanted her to know how amazing our breakfast was and how much we appreciated the entire experience.

The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food.

Our waitress did come back to bring the coffee. Before she got there we were discussing the fact that the entire staff was new. She must have overheard us and took it as some kind of slight to her. Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". We said we didnt want her to cancel our order and she just said have a nice day. So we left. Sooo not the Vicks Vittles of the past.

I had to pick between savory and sweet, and the menu is huge with lots of options plus build your own! I went for savory and got it with goat cheese and spinach (built my own). It was delightful. The blue corn is just a tinge sweet so was an interesting mix. The waffle is a decent size but is super filling and dense. The latte was honestly great--it was super smooth, flavorful, and had the perfect balance of sweetness and cinnamon. Definitely something I would come back for. The waffle, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. It came out cold, which took away from the overall experience. It had some flavor, especially from the blueberries and the unique blue corn base, but it felt a little flat overall. The butter that came with it was really good though, and once I added it, it definitely helped improve the taste. My friends also ordered waffles, and unfortunately theirs were kind of cold as well and didn't have much flavor either, so it didn't seem like it was just mine. That said, I've been here before and remember everything tasting much better, so I don't think this is their usual standard--this visit just seemed like an off day. Overall, I'd still come back for the latte alone and would give the waffles another shot hoping for a better experience next time.
