If you're looking for an authentic Mexican brunch in Pasadena's playhouse district, Anaya's Restaurant is worth checking out. I've only been for their Sunday brunch, that runs from 10am- 3pm, and it's one of the better buffets around. Adults pay $30 and children pay $15 which is great for the variety and quality. The buffet is packed with food! They've got a great mix of appetizers like bbq ribs & fried shrimp, plus a wide range of authentic Mexican favorites: fajitas, carnitas pibil, menudo, pozole, ceviche, and all the sides like rice and beans. They offer a made to order service as well for omelettes, waffles, pancakes, and chilaquiles. Buffet items are rotated regularly. Non alcoholic drinks are included in the buffet. They have a great selection of freshly made aguas frescas too. You can do bottomless mimosas for $22 extra or order al a carte cocktails. The best part is their dessert bar with flan, tres leches, churros, arroz con leche, pan dulce, fresh fruit and a chocolate fountain. The space itself is beautiful, with a mix of modern Mexican artwork and traditional Talavera decor that gives it a modern, upscale feel. The staff is attentive, and I appreciated that the manager actively walks around checking in on guests. This is a great spot for a quality Mexican brunch buffet with tons of options. Well worth the price!

It was my first time today! We went during lunch so it was semi busy. Jorge was our waiter and he was super happy and funny and made us feel welcomed. I ordered a chicken enchilada from the lunch special menu and it was delicious! A little bit of a big portion so I was able to save the other half for a later meal. Had to get the churros for dessert! I will say they were small and came on a plate of 6! As you can see here, they were completely devoured. Prices were not bad and it was clean and I heard it gets packed on the weekends!

Met the girls here for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. This is definitely a family friendly restaurant. The place was crowded but the wait time was minimal. We were sat in a booth and offered drinks right away which we loved. The drinks were yummy and very pretty. As for the food, it was good. Basic Mexican with nothing that really stood out. I got the chicken flautas. Not too crispy, which was a little sad. The beans and rice were good. What helped this place out was the outstanding service!

Second visit and food was amazing again. Aguachiles were fantastic, drinks were great. Overall great spot.

I generally prefer supporting non-chain restaurants, but Anaya's unfortunately fell short of expectations. The space is large and well-decorated, yet surprisingly quiet; even during Friday happy hour, seating was plentiful. While the drinks were decent for the price, the food definitely needs some refinement. I've often wondered why this spot wasn't more crowded when passing by--after finally stopping in, my curiosity is satisfied, but I don't think I'll be back.

Stopped by on Friday, 10/17/25 for the first time! Boyfriend and I ordered from the Happy Hour Menu (Monday - Friday from 3pm-6pm): - 4 carne asada tacos = $15 - 1 6-piece jumbo wings = $10 - 1 margarita de la casa = $9 - 1 16oz draft beer = $10 SUB TOTAL = $44 TAX = $4.62 OVERALL TOTAL = $48.62 The prices were great and affordable. I will say that the overall menu prices that are not part of the Happy Hour menu seems to be way over priced. We watched the Dodgers game and there wasn't a lot of people at the time.

Took my girlfriend here for a romantic date night. The ambiance inside the restaurant is so dim and beautiful. They had live music playing and the decor makes this restaurant so special. My burrito was really good and drowned in the amazing sauce and covered with melted cheese. Their drink options come in tiki cups that are also a very nice touch. We came on a busy night so the parking was a bit difficult to find. Parking down the street and just had to cross the intersection to get to the restaurant. Overall a great experience and will come back.

I have dined at Anaya's Mexican Restaurant in Pasadena Playhouse district once before for a birthday celebration. I loved it so much that I recommended it to my work colleagues for a team lunch recently. We came here on a Wednesday afternoon. Prior to arrival, I easily made reservations for a party of 8 via online. I got a few reminders before our arrival which was great. Please note for a party of 10 or more, you'll have to call them to make reservations. Good ample inside space with solid dark wood tables, chairs, bar stool, and bench seating. Limited outside seating available. Interesting industrial-chic inspired decor. They also have a full bar area. They weren't super busy for lunch maybe 3 big parties of 8 or more with a few smaller parties of 3 or less. Unfortunately, they had only one lady server and one gentleman barista who also helped with table service. This didn't make sense to me. They should have at least 2 full-time servers. Anyway, despite of the slow service due to the very limited staff, the staff members were friendly and did the best they could. We got complimentary chips and green salsa... just one note, there was not enough of green sauce for the amount of chips given. As for drink, water for everyone. As for food, I ordered the Anaya's Fajitas with shrimp. You can get it with steak, shrimp, chicken, or a mix of all 3 at different prices. I was expecting it to come out on a sizzling platter instead it was just on a regular plate. Slightly disappointed. It had about 7 good size shrimps along with sauteed garlic, bell peppers, onions, tomato, and white wine served with rice, beans plus 2 tortillas. Flavors were just okay nothing exceptional. Btw, I needed at least 3-4 tortillas. And what happened to the guac, sour cream, and pico de gallo? For $27.95, it needed more bells and whistle (just an analogy). Probably will not get again. We also got two guacamole appetizers that came with lime juice, jalapenos, white onions, and cilantro. All was mixed right in front of us. I was so bummed that it didn't have any taste to it. It was the blandest guac I have ever eaten. I felt like we were eating plain avocado. Just not enough salt and lime juice. Our entire table had the same feedback. Very disappointed. We also got 2 orders of churros served with caramel and whipped cream. Since we had to return back to work, we asked them to pack them to-go. We had already finished eating. It took them literally another 15+ minutes to have it out to us. We extended our visit longer than we should have... not by choice of course. Btw, churros were very good. At the end of our meal, I was not a very happy camper especially when it was a restaurant that I recommended. The slow service, the long wait on food, the bland guac, and the non-sizzling fajitas platter + lack of condiments was NOT the dining experience I was hoping to have with my team. I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the hardworking staff on the floor. Thank you for all that you do. I can't say I will recommend Anaya's again in the future which is unfortunate. Good luck Anaya's!

Anaya's delivered a wonderful dining experience. The food was exceptional--my chicken fajitas were perfectly prepared and served with beans, rice, and freshly made corn tortillas. My husband's beef burrito and my son's beef tacos were equally enjoyable. The service truly stood out. George I think he was the manager was attentive, gracious, and consistently checked on us with a warm smile. The ambiance was inviting and comfortable, making it a lovely place to celebrate my birthday. Dessert--churros served with ice cream and flan--was the perfect ending to a memorable meal. I highly recommend Anaya's for both lunch and dinner.

ANAYA's MEXICAN - REVIEW FOR JUNE 2025 Staying at the nearby AC Hotel, I was looking for a quick mexican restaurant nearby. Surprisingly, this restaurant is larger than expected and something i was looking for in Pasadena. *Food - Order = Beef flautas with beans and rice = 25$ with tax and tip - I would order again! A little pricey but substancial amount and considering location. It was packaged well, although make sure to ask for cutlery if you're staying at the hotel *Different than most mexican spots in Pasadena - - Aside from El Portugal nearby which is great for outdoor seating and the food isn't out of this world-- there isn't many big family seating mexican restaurants in pasadena; There are many hole in the walls along with taco trucks but not too many like Anaya's. *Other - outdoor seating right on colorado + large indoor seating - happy hour specials - parking? = since i walked.. can't comment and seems like it may be street parking on colorado only which may be hard I'll definitely check this place out for dine in! Heard the margaritas were worth trying pre a coworker! Shout out to Joanna for being extra kind on the phone and staff seems very friendly.

Love this place. Fell in love with the Diablo pasta. Creamy and spicy with shrimp or chicken. Great drinks. Had almost all of them.

Molcajete de carne, with shrimp addon. SO GOOD!
Truman W.

Great service and food on Cinco de Mayo. Friend and I shared a hearty Oaxacan stew of Molcajete de carne (with shrimp add-on) The steak, chicken and spicy sausage all cooked perfectly. I thought the Molcajete I had in Santa Barbara (Los Agaves) was good, but Anayas' high-end version takes it up another level. We assembled the ingredients into various tacos (beef, shrimp, surf and turf, etc.) it was so fun to eat! Btw they make their tortillas fresh so new orders take a while to come out. We poured the leftover broth, rich in umami flavor, over the rice and it tasted A-mazing! $70 total damage but would definitely do it again. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Do you have music? Live mariachi? Dancing?

What is your corkage fee?

We charge $25.00 per bottle

Do they have home-made tortillas?

Yea Sir

How is parking?

Small lot right behind restaurant. Paid Public parking a little further away. Also street parking out front but limited spots...

Do they serve complimentary chips & salsa?

They do. Is there any Mexican place that doesn't?

Does the restaurant still offer taco Tuesday 30% off?

Hell yes we do! All day at the bar and until 5pm in our main room.

Do you offer bottomless mimosas for Sunday brunch?

We offer a complimentary Mimosa and have sparkling wines!

What vegan options are there?

Many, many, many. Check the menu online. I'm not Vegan. Just happened to notice it because so many are.

What is the average cost?

My meal was $18.50. I thought the portion was perfect. Food was hot and fresh. Average cost for a meal, I'd say you'll pay between $15-$20 for a normal meal. Seafood and steak would probably be more.

We made a later reservation and would have stayed longer but didn't know just how much of an experience it would be. Vibes here are dark and moody, and it would be a great place for a unique date, just maybe not the first one. We got the beef tartare and spicy tuna crispy rice to munch on. The spicy tuna crispy rice was worth it, the beef tartare not so much. Also decided to do the drink omakase because they make the single drink prices so expensive it still feels more worth it to do the omakase so you end up getting that instead. You tell the server what you do and don't like or are looking for in your drinks and the bartenders will make them for you. Some might be already on the menu, some may not. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

But the quality is definitely there. Ambiance: trendy, high energy, casual vibes where u can lounge and have a beer while munching on fries...or u can choose to be poshy and have a glass of wine with a salad and Chilean sea bass. It's flexible to accommodate both as there are different sections. Parking: street metered 1 hour parking. 3 stars, not their fault but 1 hour is simply not enough. It can get super busy and the server can be pulled left and right, so cut them some slack during super busy hours. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended .

The atmosphere up there during golden hour is really nice, especially overlooking Pasadena with a drink and good food. Definitely feels upscale and stylish without trying too hard. Service was friendly and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. The only part of the experience that felt a little unusual was the payment process when charging the meal to my hotel room. I was asked to provide ID despite already being a registered guest at the property. I've been staying at Marriott hotels for well over a decade, including higher-end brands and resorts, and this was honestly the first time I've encountered that. I even asked about it and was told it was because sometimes people "forget they aren't guests at the hotel" when trying to charge meals to rooms. The staff member was polite, but the explanation honestly felt a bit odd and made the interaction feel slightly uncomfortable compared to what I'm used to at Marriott properties. That aside, I'd definitely come back. Great rooftop spot for dinner, drinks, sunset views, and a really solid date night atmosphere in Pasadena.

Man I've been going to the Raymond for years when in town. Don't usually make a reservation, but…read morethe hosts always sit me right away without hesitation. There were three on Friday, lovely, lovely ladies. Came by for the happy hour, the cocktails are always a hit! I love recommending the bar to my friends and family. The food on the HH menu I will say needs some sprucing. Very limited and boring sorry to say. Got a couple bites but they were bland. Perhaps the chefs were distracted and forgot the seasoning, oh well. Loved my drinks though and will try again.

We shared had a Pinot Noir, recommended by our server which was very good. The charcuterie board enough to fill the gap while we waited for our main dinner. Everyone was please with what we ordered. Our server was there but laid back enough to freely enjoy our time without the pressure of being rushed. This restaurant is so cozy and friendly. There is enough outside sitting and they are open to guests dining with behaved pets. The menu had ample variety to please family guests and offer kids menu. They do have delicately prepared chef's special from steak to salads that can satisfy everyone's palette. We decided to have latte and their dessert special lemon mouse paired with a liqueur, it was so good!

This bar is tucked inside Vroman's Bookstore (already one of the most charming and iconic bookstores in the area) so the entire experience feels like stepping into a warm, literary universe. You can browse for a new book, take in the bookstore's atmosphere, and then walk straight into the bar. Honestly, it's the perfect outing. What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. If you're into books, wine, and unique experiences, 1894 is a spot you absolutely can't miss. Perfect for a date, a solo unwind-with-a-book moment, or a fun night with friends who appreciate a good story and a great drink.
