I have never written a negative review but I read the positive previous reviews to choose this place and had a poor experience. I had my nails done here 1 week ago, dip manicure. Within 36 hours a pinky nail popped off. I glued it back on with nail glue because I had a wedding to attend. It's been one week and all the nails have lifted/popped off besides the thumbs. Note: THEY DO NOT TOUCH ACRYLIC!!! I came in and said I needed my acrylics removed and a manicure. Considering I am a bit soft spoken they may not have heard me, BUT I don't know why they would even start a service as well as charge for something they can't complete. They quite literally slapped some paint on the nails I had removed the acrylics from myself (without even buffing, or filing them), sat me under the dryer with no guidance. Assuming they would take the acrylics off at some point I just aimlessly waited a solid 20minutes until another employee told me I could pay. I I had tried going to another nail salon,, but they were busy. So I tried Amy's. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I was not offered a water or anything, despite it being 90° outside. My entire pedicure took 15 minutes. After painting I was transferred to a drying station instead of getting to sit in the massage chair. I was not offered different options for my service, I was not asked any questions. My feet were not scrubbed, calluses were not removed, nothing. I understand wanting to move through clients for profit but I would rather be told they didn't have time than what I received. This was the first time I did not tip on a service in my life. I will not be returning here at any point. read more

I really want to be able to recommend Amy's Nail Gallery. Everyone who works here seems really nice, there are free beverages, and the massage chairs work. However, I'm not convinced the quality is there. My gel manicure lasted one week before a nail started bubbling and lifting in one corner. It's since chipped off and a few days later, there are multiple nails with the same issue. I am not rough with my hands, so this was a surprise. My pedicure looks fine though, so I may just return for that. I paid $65 plus tip for a gel mani and regular pedicure. read more

I have been going to Amy's Nail Gallery for manicures and pedicures for about 8 years. Esther does a great manicure. A couple of years ago, before Apple Pay, one day when I got to the shop I had forgotten my wallet. I'm 79 years old, 77 at the time, so I thought that I would come back with the money after the mani. Keep in mind that I had been going and paying for at least 6 years, always tipping well. Mr. Lee, the owner said that I would have to go home and get the money before the manicure. I thought that this was very rude customer service, but Esther always makes my nails look great and is very nice, so I went home to get the money and I kept coming back. Now fast forward to last week. My appointment for a manicure and pedicure was at 1:30. I had to leave there and go to the suburbs, but I had time. After my manicure, the pedicure chairs were all taken, with a couple of people whose appointments were after mine. They were sitting and waiting, and then Esther went to give a pedicure to someone else, while my appointment was ignored. I'm sure that this was not her idea, but that Mr. Lee told her to do that. I told Mr. Lee that I had to leave and that my appointment was at 1:30. By this time it was about 2:45. This was beyond unacceptable customer service, and something I have never experienced anywhere else. I left and called another salon nearby and got right in. There are at least 5 nail salons within a 3 block radius on Damen. There is no need to go to one with an owner who has such poor customer service. I hate to lose out on Esther's manicures, but with all of those salons, hopefully I will find someone almost as good. read more

I hope I just had an off day with my nail tech as my toes are chipping after 2 days and my no chip mani was done pretty poorly- shape was lopsided and she painted well above my nail bed so they look grown out already. I would return to give it another try, just not with the same nail tech (I can't remember her name but she was older) read more

I went to get a no-chip on Monday. I had a okay experience based on two reasons. 1) the massage chair didn't really work. I turned it off after some time. 2) I felt like it was super rushed and not relaxing at all. I attributed the latter to it being before a holiday weekend. I decided I would give it another try; however, two of my nails have already chipped and it is just Friday. I am super bummed as I really wanted to have nice nails for my vacation. Very thorough and professional! I was in a hurry. I walked in and they were able to do both a mani and pedi at the same time. It's located kind of central to where I work, live, doctors etc. Unfortunately, being such a busy bee, I never had time to go and pamper myself there. I went to get a mani-pedi at Amy's today when I was visiting my friend in the city. I've gotta say- I loved it! I loved the foot scrub, massage, and the paraffin wax on the heels. My nail technician was so sweet and accommodating. I've had a few bad experiences in the past with cuticle trimming, but she did an awesome job. The owner was also so sweet. Yes!! Esther did an amazing job. One of the most the thorough, meticulous manicures ever- but she also didn't take forever! She happily painted my nails all different colors and they have a little heating pad that rests on your shoulders while they do your nails. It's awesome. I made a visit here while walking around the neighborhood on a Monday off from work. I was seated right away for my pedicure without an appointment, but the place was pretty busy for a Monday afternoon. Weekend or evening visitors may want to try making an appointment if possible. There are plenty of nail colors to pick from here. I would rate my pedicure an 8/10. My nail tech was great at her job, but my heels could have benefited from a little bit more scrubbing. Service: good Nails: great I have been looking for a new nail salon since I moved to Chicago, and think I found it! The staff is so sweet here. The woman who did my gel manicure was incredibly detail oriented, really took her time. She checked in with me regularly to make sure I liked her work. The best part is my gel has lasted a full two weeks and still looks fabulous. This is my best friend's nail spot. She took me today and I had an overall great experience. They have a decent variety of nail colors to choose from and a killer back massage to top off a manicure. A fellow dog owner told me about this place because I noticed her lovely pedicure. They have a special M-W manicure and pedicure for $38. I figured I would try and and thought for the price they would get me out in a hurry. We have all been to those places: soak, loofa, polish and then you are out. Was I wrong. I wasn't expected to be so pampered...massaged my feet, hands and shoulders. The warm towels and hot rocks helped my achy hands and feet. I have found my new nail place! In my last review I mentioned my dip manicure horribly chipping - turns out it is a common problem with dip, and was mostly my nails that were the issue, not their services! I went to Amy's to see if we could switch it to a no-chip, and they did it without hesitation and even gave me a store credit for the difference in fee. Fantastic! I had high expectations of this place after reading all of the great reviews, and Amy's still managed to exceed my expectations. First of all, they have the best selection of nail polish I think I've ever seen. A lot of places have lots of options, but they all tend to be very similiar. Amy's must have every OPI and Essi color that exists. And I love the fact that they are numbered, so they can be put away where they belong! I had a hard time choosing! The manicure & pedicure were great. Expertly done, with attention to detail. The parafin wax, hot stone, and massages were amazing as well. I got a pretty horrible manicure here today. I tried to look past the paint job, but the more I check out my nails, the more I realize just how bad they are. Crooked cuticle lines, uneven polish application, and no attempt to clean up polish on my skin. Also, I have peeling cuticles on almost every finger and it has been 10 hours. I could have done a better job, and I am the worst at painting my nails. I'm sure some technicians are better than others, but no one should be employed in a nail salon when their work is this shoddy. 2 stars because they have nice perks like paraffin wax and hot stones included as part of the basic service, and everything up until the polish application was good. Since my last review Amy's has been amazing! The last 2 times, however, have been awful!!! I had a girl whose name was Blue(on her name tag) and wanted a toenail repair and also a pedicure. She couldn't figure out what I needed or couldn't understand what I was even asking her to do very frustrating but then had attitude the entire time but I dealt with it. That was over two months ago fast forward to two weeks ago, I went in for a pedicure and A no chip manicure. The same girl, Blue, was the person doing my Man/Pedi. Started with my pedicure and everything was going fine and she was super nice until the pedicure was done and the rubber slippers she put on my feet broke and I asked if I could please put on my normal sandals which I brought and she looked me in the eyes and said "no you can't wear those". I was taken aback as even pre-Covid I would not walk around any nail salon in my bare feet given the fact who knows what germs I am picking up no matter how cleanly they are! She had attitude the entire time I was getting my no chip manicure and when I asked if she was done she basically looked at me and said yes there you go and I said "thank God "I didn't even tip her because she basically literally shoved the receipt in my face and said there you go I was so frustrated and done never going back ever ever ever!!!!!! If I could guarantee I couldn't get this woman again I still wouldn't go back, she was awful!!! If you have no other choice and have to go to this salon, don't get the girl named Blue!! read more

OK, I cannot possibly wait another minute to share this fantastic nail place with you Yelp-peeps! I considered waiting until the first chip so I could give it a Normal Helena Activities Durability Test, but at this point - four days in - it's looking like my nails would more likely grow completely out before the first bit of color vanished from their perfect veneer. In short - this has been, by far, the best manicure I've ever received. I tend to avoid getting my nails done because my inner perfectionist won't shut up once the first nail is chipped. This first chip usually happens as I leave the nail establishment. So yeah, nail polish and I have a tortured past. Amy's was there to guide me back in to the world of colorful nails. First, the entire experience goes far beyond your standard manicure. There was a paraffin dip to start (the hot wax was a touch shocking as I'd just walking in off the street and my hands were quite cold, but I must say, it was "bad in a good way"). Once seated, they place a warm, scented wrap on your shoulders and begin to massage. Massage?! I know, right? This place is freakin' awesome! Next up is the manicure itself. I know nothing of nail enhancing techniques, but whatever she did worked because, as I mentioned, my nails remain a sight to behold. I mean, I still catch myself gazing at them lovingly and I've been with them 24/7 since their transformation. And.... All this for only $15!! FIFTEEN DOLLARS, people! read more
