I have been going to magic star for three years! I have never not loved my nails! It is hands down the best place for all manicure/pedicure needs, but especially for designs. Mimi always kills it with my nails but I've gone to a lot of different employees there and they have always done fantastic work.
I have been too so many nail salons and I almost never go back to any of them because the service sucks. I recently started working nearby and found this gem. This is the first nail salon in a very long time that I genuinely love and will probably be a forever customer from here on out. Everyone is so kind and professional. The space is very clean and I always feel very relaxed here. Super cute salon! My favorite is Mimi- she is the reason I have beautiful nails now and they're my nails! I took my acrylic off and usually places just chop your nail length off to quickly take off the acrylic. Mimi patiently took off the acrylic and helped me keep my length AND did an amazing sharp almond dip set. I just went back for my Halloween nails and let me tell you...I'm in LOVE.
My new go to place! On the day of my engagement pictures I broke multiple of my natural nails so quickly tried to find a place that could give me nail extensions and an ombré look. They got me in that afternoon and gave me these beautiful nails, I received so many compliments! I will be coming back here for my wedding nails too
Understaff and they keep scheduling people and accepting walkins even at 7:30p and that was my last straw as they supposedly close at 8p. Mind you they're already behind and it took them 1hr and 30mins(not including the dry time) to do my pedicure because the nail techs was literally playing musical chairs because they can't keep up with the demand. At one point, one of the tech was doing 4 people at the same time. One almost walked out like me but she was able to stop her . The color was blotchy and I called them out on it so she added 2 more on top of the 3 coats they did already. I was planning on getting dip but walkout. $30 for this fucked up pedi cure. I won't be coming back here. I got a dip manicure and scheduled my appointment over the phone which was easy. The person doing my nailed couldn't have done it any FASTER. And I mean that in the worst way possible. I literally sat down and she just started the dip nail process. Said she would have to charge extra for cuticle care when I asked (which should be included?) When she did take care of my cuticles 4/10 of them were bleeding. They were all burning the whole manicure because she was being so rough trying to go so fast. She didn't shape my nails until the end, and now the top coat is peeling off. Nails are bumpy, I've even found two little black hairs that were painted onto my nails and I can't get them out. I've been having such a stressful time at work and needed a relaxing pampering. She did it in 40 minutes and I was so stressed the whole time. This was NOT it.

I have had many great mani/pedis over the years, but unfortunately the management of the place has been inconsistent - making my time there increasingly more chaotic and unpleasant. The reviews mentioning long waits and technicians taking clients before finishing others have been true for my recent experiences as well. My visit today was my last straw. My technician today, Mimi, was seemingly flustered after handling another unhappy customer, with the team all yelling at one another in Vietnamese during my treatment. She accidentally spilled a small bottle of acetone over my leather purse. I understand it wasn't intentional at all, and I didn't want to make a big fuss, but she seemed to forget it even happened. Mimi is very talented and when she's able to focus on a client, typically does a phenomenal job. When I mentioned that I was disappointed and that acetone ruins leather, she asked what she could do. I asked her what she thought was fair, and she explained that she would like to compensate me the cost of the bag (it was a bag I purchased within the last 3 weeks and had the receipt), but that the owner of the business would not support it. I would have been okay if they had just comped my services from today, as the cost of the bag ($86) was about the same value as my visit, but that was not an acceptable solution for them. I asked to reach out to the new owner (Danny) to see if he would support his team in taking care of customers in situations like this. After some pushback, Danny responded that they would discount my services by 50% of the cost of my bag, which would come completely out of Mimi's pay. Accidents do happen, and it breaks my heart to see a business owner not stand by their team nor do the right thing for their clients.
Okay this is what's up- Do you want perfect nails? What about the sweetest gal making that happen for you?? LOOK NO FURTHER because Mimi is your girl. She is the only person I let touch my nails and if you ask for her you will understand why. So talented and a p e r f e c t i o n i s t. Bonus: the salon itself is beautiful, good pricing, and has pretty much any color you can imagine. 11/10 recommend. BRB going to see my girl Mimi for my holiday nails

Been here twice now and likely will not come back. First appointment, I got a simple no-chip mani that, while service was quick and not inherently bad, did not fully go down to my cuticles and therefore looked 5-7 days grown out before even leaving the salon. (Unfortunately did not take a photo of that one.) Second appointment, I asked again for no-chip but requested an extension for one nail (pinky) that had broken. I was charged for a full set of extensions which seems ridiculous. Additionally, my actual nails look nothing like my inspo photo. She cut them WAY shorter than I had requested (I asked that they just be even with the shortest nail and only to cut off a little); I asked for a round shape and these are weirdly pointy; the colors are way more neon (we went back and forth on colors for 5-10 minutes at which point I just gave up); and the french tips are uneven and thin, not thick like my inspo photo. At over $70 this was really not the level of service or skill I expected. read more

Everyone at Magic Star is super friendly and they do a great job. I've gotten a no chip, regular, and dip mani as well as regular pedis and they are well done and last a long time. I've also never seen such a huge color selection! read more

I went there last Friday and am still OBSESSED with my ombré dip manicure. I unfortunately didn't get the tech's name (she had a pink mask on) but I am so happy. It's so subtle yet so pretty and noticeable . Can't wait to get the same thing done when my nails get longer! 5 stars every time. read more

I had my nails done today by Mimi and she did an amazing job! I'm so happy with how they turned out. she shaped and painted them beautifully. My pedicure was wonderful she gave me the best foot massage I've had in a long time. I'm glad that I stopped into Magic Star Nails today because I've found my new Nail tech. This was my first time going to a nail salon since the start of the pandemic, and I'm glad I decided on Magic Star Nails. Sue did a wonderful job checking in to see if I wanted any modifications (length, shape) as the service went along. She was super nice and the salon itself is clean and comfortable. This place is wonderful and MiMi is one of the best! She does dip SO well, is incredibly detail oriented (my shape is always perfect) & is always great with any fun design I want to try. The salon is always clean & the entire team is so friendly and helpful!! They are great with walk-ins and appointments (although always best to call ahead) and the prices are exactly what you'd expect. read more

I just moved to this area and always trying to get my favorite place to do my nails, first time I walked in the woman was so rude just the way she talked to me another, I will never going back there again to spend my money almost $100 for bad service. read more

I am not a big yelp reviewer but we were utterly shocked with the poor service and customer care. Zero stars, believe me don't waste your time and money here. There's hundreds of better nail salons on the north side of Chicago. Empty nail salon on a Saturday afternoon... should have listened to my gut telling me this was not the place for my friend and I to get our toes done. They were incredibly rude when we walked in though we politely asked if it was alright if we were drop ins. Was pressured to get a mani pedi when we only wanted a color change for our toes. There was haphazard cutting and filling of our toenails that left them uneven lengths and jagged. Polish was even worse, missed the sides of our nails and the second layer started to bubble over the first layer. They gave us legitimate space heaters balancing on rolling stools to "dry our toes". My friend's feet were turning red from how hot they were getting. We walked out in silence, baffled that we even paid money so that we would have to go home and fix it... read more

This is my new favorite nail salon in Chicago! My boyfriend and I got pedicures and I got a gel manicure as well. They gave us a couples discount as well! Everyone was so polite and sweet to us. Our nails turned out great and they were very gentle. Will be going back on a regular basis! read more

Mimi has been doing my nails for a while, and I can't recommend her enough! She is so kind and respectful, and does an outstanding job. i absolutely love my strawberry nails!! i came here on a whim when the place i was going to go to was closed and i'm glad i did. the vibe was very casual which i like for a nail salon. i always get nervous when i ask for a more intricate design because i feel guilty or like i am going to take up too much of their time, but when i pulled out my reference photos my nail tech (whose name i did not catch ) just said how adorable it was and seemed excited! full new acrylic set and design only took about 75 minutes total, paid 75$. would recommend! read more

I just recently moved to the city and my roommate took me to get my nails done here, and it was simply wonderful! My nails have never looked better or healthier. I have a bad habit of picking at my nails which has caused them to break off- but Magic Star nails has made them look so nice and clean! Plus the studio itself is gorgeous. Both Sue and Kevin are absolutely amazing! They're so talented and friendly. Kevin did my nails (powder dipped) and he paid extremely close attention to details and made sure I was completely satisfied with them. The prices are very affordable too! I will be going back there for all my manicure and pedicure needs! read more

This is my favorite nail salon in the Chicago area! Relatively affordable as far as gel acrylics go, but every time I come in with a nail design idea, they execute it perfectly!!! I decided to get my nails done and Magic Star is in walking distance from my apartment and they let me schedule an appointment online. Perfect. I showed up this morning at my appointment time and there was only one other person getting their nails done with two techs total. I think this is the best dip manicure I've gotten in a while. My tech was pretty meticulous about not cutting too much of my cuticles and cleaning up around my nails at all stages of the dip. The color and entire manicure looks great! I will be back. read more

I came in with the residue of a hard gel manicure I got before quarantine and not only were the people at Magical Star Nails extremely friendly, but my nails FINALLY look healthy again. I will definitely be coming back here! Atmosphere is open and airy and they've put in plexi glass separators between each station so you're completely social distanced. read more

We love this place! Magic Star delivers A+ service. Sue (owner) makes you feel very welcome, as soon as you walk thru the door. Newly added coffee/wine add a nice personal touch to your experience. We were even treated to some cookies from the bakery next door. Make sure you check them out. Very positive experience! read more
