Fair diner. Near the airport so I noticed a few airline crews having breakfast. Husband had the blueberry pancakes which were very good. I ordered the biscuits and gravy but it wasn't very good. The biscuit was hard and the gravy was just ok. Nothing memorable about it. I wouldn't recommend it. Pancakes are the way to go read more

Amazing experience! They have a loyalty card and my experience clearly explains why do they have one. Extremely attentive and cordial server. Ordered the wings as appetizer and was only disappointed by their big size. I do not like big sized wings; they tend to be on the drier side (the only reason why they are getting a 4 star), but the buffalo sauce on them was truly unique. The Moussaka was amazing and so was the Ratatouille. I will be back over here definitely. Was not impressed with the food the last time, particularly the fries...came out soggy...Also who serves an whole chicken breast on an open sandwich?...May be next time I am sticking to ordering breakfast items... read more

Love having this 24 hour diner near by! Everything I've tried has been great, especially the wings and desserts.

My go to spot in Herndon for breakfast . Great service and spectacular lavazza coffee . Reasonable prices . I have never eaten lunch or dinner here so I cannot provide any additional information . read more

Lunch time with a large work team. Service was great. I had the pancakes and bacon. Really good as always.

Fantastically average. Beautiful restaurant, amazing menu, great service, but just ok food. Maybe it's the dc Labor market but no craftsmanship in the delivery. read more

This is one of our reliable go-to places, even during COVID. They honor social distancing while still providing great food. The options on the menu have been reduced, but even their limited menu offers numerous options well beyond other restaurants. The desserts are delicious, the 24/7 menu items are a hit no matter what you're craving, and the staff are friendly. Steve is great to chat with so say hi to him when he's there. Made us feel welcome! read more

Fantastic service and delicious food. I came in during a busy lunch hour, but was served and tended to immediately. There was a hitch with one of the dishes ordered because they ran short on bread, but the staff took the initiative and made it up to me by providing an additional side for free. I'll happily come back here for lunch to try other meals on their expansive menu. read more

I am SO EXCITED to have found this place! What an unexpected gem to come upon in Herndon, where I have now lived for about nine months. Found Amphora on a quick Yelp search this morning when looking for a new breakfast or brunch place to eat. I was instantly taken with the exterior of the building; it looks genuinely aged and classic. When we got inside I was surprised at the size of the place as well, as there is a large bakery counter at the entrance. The menu is huge! It's literally a laminated spiral booklet PACKED with Mediterranean cuisine--my favorite! There is regular food as well for anyone who isn't necessarily into that. Very extensive breakfast menu but felt I had no choice but to go with the Zorba omelette. Gyros are one of my favorite meals ever so I couldn't resist, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. All the omelettes come with hash browns and let me tell you, those potatoes were done PERFECTLY. I can't wait to come back. read more

We have returned for yet another breakfast. There does not seem to be enough Staff as we see a lot of empty tables and a lobby full of hungry patrons. I have gotten the Bloody Mary again. It is good but not great. The one piece of garnish was a sad, old stalk of celery. I know Amphora can do better than this! This is the first time I have gotten the Zorba omelette. The Greek sauce really made the dish. I asked for crispy home fries. They more than delivered on that! Delicious. The creamed chip beef was tasty and the gravy thick. It was almost as good as mine....so I'm told.... The service, as always, was outstanding. read more

Open 24 hours, and the entire menu is available at all times apparently. Breakfast, dinner, cakes/pastries, and even a small bar inside. If I visited this place in DC or Arlington, I would give it 4 starts because of the other choices and value around it, but since this place is located in Herndon, far from anything that can offer such options and value, I had to reach for the fifth star. Locals like me enjoy odd-hour food options. The environment is kinda like a classy of 'French' style silver diner (as a few of the people there apparently speak French I believe). UPDATE: Food has consistently taken a very long time, even drinks sometimes. Passing waiters/workers tend not to check and/or care if you are being served or need anything.Watching the kitchen from the bar appears that games and jokes distract from food times :/ read more

24/7 premium diner? It's like a fancy restaurant that is open later than taco bell! Amphora's Diner Deluxe has been my go-to place when I want to go out, but I'm just not sure what I want to eat. It's the official "I don't know, what do you want to eat?" restaurant for the area. I have yet to be disappointed by anything they have made for me, and they will make anything. They have like 10 different variations of Eggs Benedict! My favorite has to be the Mexican burger, which is fairly priced and not over the top loaded (so you can actually fit it in your mouth). The restaurant is always very clean, the bathrooms are always very clean, the staff is always very neat. As for service, it can be hit or miss sometimes. All the waiters are very friendly though, and they do seem to care about you and your meal. They're not just waiting for the tip. read more

My friends and I go here all the time. We enjoy the food, the service, and the staff. Shout out to Brandon, Kumar and many others. Picked up some carryout July 9. Sad to say I was greatly disappointed. Ordered the gyro platter and an order of fried zucchini. When they first opened, it was great food even though the staff has always been a bit snooty. The most recent order... the french fries were soggy and cold. The fried zucchini was soggy as well. I can't figure out how they went downhill. Maybe it's the kitchen staff. Many years back they used to put feta cheese in the gyros but not anymore. The manager had claimed but they never put feta cheese in the Gyros but I knew better having eaten there for many years. I'm probably not going to return after this latest disappointment. read more

Its been a while since i was here.... not sure if is under different management or they just stop caring about the service/business From cold coffee to a really bad service Waited over 40 mins to get my food in that time the server that never mention his name( older guy with bad attitude) never came by the table to offer to refill the drinks When i finally got my omelette it look like they forgot the cheese and just trow two slices of american cheese and folded it again I don't think i m coming back to this place! read more

Zero star. Reasons below. I tried this place because of really good reviews here. I am SO disappointed at their customer service and quality of food: I got a glass of orange juice but it tasted old and not drinkable. After a sip of it, I asked for a coffee instead. The server still charged me for orange juice and coffee. Fried potatoes came with egg Benedict was too oily. $50 breakfast for two people was waste of money. After breakfast I felt sick and I threw up. It seems like they have gone cheap on their product to save/make money. I wanted to give them a 0 star, but did not have the option to. read more

I have been here a few times. Parking lot is large but close parking is inconvenient. The bakery goods, especially the plates of cookies are great. A little pricey-but worth it. Great to bring to a party and wrapped nice on a silver tray. I have been late in the day and had great service and good food. The dining room is large. They have a person going around with coffee and checking in on guests. However- that person will not bring you water. They will bring you hot water to refill hot tea though. French toast is awesome. Eggs over medium is a foreign concept. French fries are great. Breakfast potatoes, burgers, pastrami- all good. Eggs over medium are barely over easy. More like a soup. Brunch on Sunday is a disaster. We asked 3 people and our waitress twice for water. On the third request for water from the waitress- success! On a positive note- we did have a large party and all of our orders were correct. (Except the eggs- I cannot let it go. :) I will be back- but maybe not for Sunday brunch. read more

Very long wait for mediocre food and dirty restaurant Waited over an hour for a Sunday brunch. Was interested to see if it was worth the wait. It definitely wasn't. The restroom had no soap, no paper towels, backed up toilets, and was generally filthy. The restaurant was dirty as well. My food seemed like microwaved pre-packaged food at best. read more

Stopped by en route from airport. Menu is extensive and my son really liked his Spaghetti Bolognese. Service was fast and friendly

Once you learn what to order here, you are in for a real treat. Any of their cakes are outstanding and highly recommended. The surprise though was their blueberry pancakes I had this week on my last visit... I make no understatement when I say they are the best I have had to date. Service was attentive and friendly. So why not give Amphora a 5? The reason is many of their non breakfast or dessert items are very disappointing. I recommend avoiding all those and stick to breakfast and desserts as they are served all day and absolutely delicious. read more

I love this diner so much but lately they have been lacking in service. The service was slow which isn't horrible but not the most ideal. However, mostly I'm sorta bummed because I have come here all the time and ordered chocolate chip waffles. I understand it is not an item on the menu but I've had no problem ordering it in the past. Usually they just add the chocolate chips and add the cost which is perfectly fine but they repeatedly say they can't make it and don't have it the last few times I've come here which is ridiculous. The first time I came here I asked if they could do a chocolate chip waffle and then they brought out a chocolate chocolate chip waffle with chocolate syrup which was amazing!! I just miss the customer service read more

So I've been meaning to write this review since March 23, 2014, a day that will forever live in infamy. It was the day I boycotted my former love, Amphora. I remember when Amphora first opened up in the 90s, with its neon lights gleaming and its breakfast items calling. This shiny diner (or Palace of Oz as I liked to call it as a kid) was my favorite place to frequent and drink Lavazza coffee while writing short stories. I miss those days. Me and Mr. Amphora go wayy back. But all of that is in the past. I'll take him back if he makes one change -- the management. But until then, I'm not seeing Amphora anymore. Here's why... Before I go into details, let me first say that I almost never complain at restaurants. There have been only two times I've complained to restaurant management - once for a piece of metal in a taco and once for what looked to be a pubic hair in a drink. On to Amphora. Two friends and I went there around midnight to grab some breakfast food. We sat down and waited for our server to come by - he said he would be with us soon, but 15 minutes went by, and still nothing. More time passed, and the manager came by with a plate of chicken tenders and asked if we ordered them. "No, the server hasn't taken our order yet," we said. Another 10 minutes pass, and the same manager comes by with a quesadilla. Again we say, "No, not ours, the server still hasn't taken our order yet." Me and my friends joked about taking the food if he came by a third time. Then a different staff member came by with chicken wings. We told him that our server still hadn't taken our order. We'd been sitting there for over half an hour with no orders placed. It was getting rather ridiculous, like a Candid Camera episode. Our server came by after the third time, and we put in our orders: me (smoked salmon omelette), "Chick" (zorba omelette, no tomatoes), and "Dude" (eggs benedict). It took an unusually long time for our food to come out. When it did, Chick saw that her omelette had tomatoes, which she had specifically asked to not include - he took it back to make a new one. Me and Dude wanted to wait for her new omelette before we started eating, but at that point it had been an hour or so. I gave her a slice of my toast and we started eating. The manager came by, Michael from Greece as he introduced himself, and apologized for her omelette saying, "if it's not ready in 5 minutes, it'll be ready in 10 minutes." It wasn't a good joke, yet he repeated it to her since she didn't laugh the first time. What kind of manager says that? An inexperienced one. After the manager walked away, Dude said his eggs benedict dish wasn't very good, and then he realized they did not put hollandaise sauce on it. We tried to call the server over. And finally he came by with Chick's omelette (without the tomatoes), which is when Dude told him they forgot to put hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict. The server said they probably ran out in the kitchen. Dude said it would have been nice to know that beforehand because he wouldn't have ordered it. The server went back to the kitchen and returned with hollandaise sauce for my friends now very cold eggs. The server apologized and said that the manager would be taking care of our table due to the inconvenience. We all assumed this meant they were comping the bill, as we'd been sitting there for an hour and a half at that point, and Chick had just gotten her food. When the manager came by with the bill, he said he took $5 off for the delay. We were all kind of stunned by this since the server had implied something else. So I told the manager we were all really irritated with the slow service we'd received, and the inaccuracies of the two orders. He said our server was new and still learning. I told him I had no issue with our server; I had an issue with him because we told him twice that we had not put in our orders yet. As a manager, he should have stepped in, or told the server to check in on us. Again, the manager said, next time we can ask for a different server. I again told him that the server was not the issue, it was the poor management. He asked what he could do to make us happy, and I told him he should be giving us more than $5 off. He said he couldn't just give food away, and he said he didn't care if I ever came back. Rude. I told him I'd been going there for years, and he lost a regular. If i was the manager, I would at the very least comp Chick's meal since they got her food wrong and way late, and Dude's meal since it was late and missing a key ingredient. At that point we'd been there well over 2 hours, and several tables after us had already paid and left. Michael brought back a check with Chick's bill comped and Dude's bill half off. We paid and left, him smirking and whispering with a waiter as we left. So that's the story. I hope me and Amphora can be friends again soon, but it really needs to clean up it's management. read more

Ate here late tonight. Food was a lot better than expected and the variety on the menu is impressive. Our server was prompt and he didn't need to write anything down. Food was very good. Grabbed 2 slices of the double chocolate mousse cake to take home and it was delicious. read more

This is my second time dining late night. The service is terrible. Completely apathetic about what's going on. My mom's burger was over cooked. Cheese wasn't melted, server did not seem to care. Drinks were slow to be refilled. The server was rude as in you're an inconvenience to him by dining there. My food was tasteless. I had mexican Philly. I will not return. Sad thing is, I work in the industry, I understand mishaps. However this is just plain crap good and service. To top it all off, the manager in passing asked how things were. Didn't even stop and wait for a reply. read more

I have been dining at Amphora in Herndon since 2006. Maybe 2005. I've seen it go through many, many servers (kid you not, there used to be a server that looked like Antonio Banderas. He is missed lol.) I've also seen at least 5 managers come and go. So needless to say, I've dined here a lot! I don't know the names of the current staff and I really don't care to because every one of them needs an attitude check. There's one guy in particular, who I always give respect to because he's like my parent's age, but man does his manners come across as poor! He's mouthy and the tone of his voice is dry and cold. It just so happens that he always ends up being my tables server and every time, he kills my vibe. Management needs to train the servers to be more friendly and hospitable. I would not recommend carrying out from here because they almost always mess up on the order. Or they forget important things like plastic ware or salad dressing. They don't pay attention to details, for sure. Also, the price of the food.. especially dessert... keeps going up. Almost $7 for a SKINNY slice of cake is just #$%&ing dumb. They get most of their desserts from the Amphora bakery so whoever is pricing the sweets is off their rocker. I used to love Amphora. It used to be my favorite restaurant. I think their skills in service, their quality of food and the overall experience has gone down from a 4/5 to a 2. Do better, Amphora! read more

I visited the establishments on Saturday 6/23/18 at 2 pm it wasn't that busy. The hostess was great we were seated quickly it took a while before our waiter Arnab came to the table just to get the drink orders. He was working one section by himself. After the order and getting our food he never came back to the table. He did not refill any drinks, did not ask if we needed anything else and he disappeared into the back. When it was time to go there was no check I went up front and stood over 7 minutes before Arnab even acknowledge me. While up front my daughter wanted a cookie but I could see nets crawling all over the sweets. Another customer came in to look at the sweets and he noticed the nets also. The manager was upfront wiping off a seating chart and never once ask if I needed anything, matter of fact he didn't even speak. Once I received my ticket, the manager was at the register to check me out. He never spoke, I gave him the ticket and money in his hand, he laid my change down on the counter and walked away. I just couldn't believe that he would lay the change on the counter when I'm standing right in front of him and then to walk off. This was my 3rd time going to this restaurant and I have never experienced any problems but Saturday was my last time. I will NEVER frequent this establishment again. If you can't greet your paying customer why get a job dealing with the public. read more

We had an awful experience here last Sunday. Service was just terrible. They seated us in the back room, typically used for events and nearly forgot about us. Our waiter brought our drinks, spilled some of the coffee and left some napkins for my father to clean it up himself and never returned to pick up the napkins. Then after taking our orders and considerable time had passed, we all needed drink refills. We had to wave our server over to get those. Two of people I was with ordered toast that was not delivered until one person had already finished their breakfast. The food was mostly good except for the oily scrambled eggs and undercooked bacon. My husband and I used to frequent this restaurant occasionally for breakfast, but they will be coming off our list. read more

I just left the restaurant and it was the WORST experience I have ever had. Jackie- our server was in such a hurry we barely could order. My boyfriend wanted tea ... But didn't have time to specify sweet or not. So after 4 times of her walking by us we finally ordered food. I request no blue cheese- because I am allergic and my boyfriend ordered two chilling dogs (not knowing they had beans). Our food came out and luckily my boyfriend took the first bite- there was blue cheese all over the sandwich. She grabbed the plate and walked away. Second sandwich came out and within one bite, there was a bone. I was so boiled that I no longer wanted to eat. Did I mention it was the first time there? So, my boyfriend went to the front because we had enough, and they took off my order. That's when Jackie came over and asked if my food was ok. I instantly showed her the bone and she goes "ugh, I'm sorry". My boyfriend paid for his food and we left without even waiting for something else to go wrong. The ONLY good thing, is the red velvet piece of cake we were compensated for. We took it home and I am enjoying it while I write this. We have been looking for a breakfast spot and someone told us about this place. I WILL NEVER BE BACK. I will tell everyone I can my experience. My morning, let's just say, isn't going so well. Oh, for you long legs, be careful because there is an awkward bar that runs right through your leg room. The star, is for the cake. Oh, I never once saw or heard from a manager. I would go back and get the red velvet cake, but clearly they don't care what so ever to even contact or talk to us. Anyone has referrals for good red velvet cake? read more

Amphora Diner - Red velvet - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Herndon, Virginia

Hi, Hopefully this review of 1 star reflects just a blip and if it is and things have improved the next time I go (which will be quite a while from now), the rating will hopefully be upgraded. A few nights ago, a friend and I went there for dinner. I had the London Broil along with a baked potato and a salad. I've been coming here since they first opened and in the past you always got a vegetable with your entree so here are the changes: My London Broil was overcooked. Instead of medium it came out well done. Plus it was just a few strips of meat and not like in the past where you got actual slices. The baked potato was way undercooked and quite hard. No side vegetable came with the entree when that used to be included. Apparently that's a recent change. My friend ordered steak and eggs (she ordered her steak rare but it came out very well done). The eggs were ordered over easy but came out hard and rubbery. The potatoes were the only part that she said we're good. My friend and I have eaten there since they opened their doors and when we expressed our disappointment (the first time ever) we were offered two complimentary desserts but there was no other compensation for the very poor and almost inedible dinner. The waitress was as nice as could be but the manager couldn't be bothered to check on us or offer any apology or compensation except the 2 free desserts the waitress brought. I don't know when I'll go back given I've been a very long time customer so hopefully this was a blip but given we spent close to $40 for such a lousy meal and the manager acted like he could care less it won't be anytime soon. read more
