I had high hopes for this place given the location in Dove Mountain. The atmosphere was not very special inside. The place only had beer in bottles and cans. My husband and I ordered our own pizzas which are rather expensive (about $14 or $15 for a pizza). I had a Bianca Al Prosciutto which was kind of like cheesy garlic bread with prosciutto and arugula. I did not really care for the crust and the cheese was really gummy and thick. My husband ordered a Salsicca pizza and he also did not think the crust or cheese was very good. We did not have any pasta or salads but did see folks ordering them. Lots of folks were having wine with their meals so maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes at this restaurant but I guess I expect special pizza from a place with a wood fired pizza oven. read more

Rating based on the skimpy portions of the pasta, chicken and spinach. The dish literally lacked all 3 ingredients! My suspicion is that instead of raising prices due to the current state of the economy, they have opted to serve smaller amounts of food! This iteration of the main Tucson "parent" (I will presume) simply does not mirror the Swan locale because if it did, both of them would not be around for long. Being from Philadelphia & South Jersey, we know good pizza. Since we've been in Arizona for quite some time, we've been looking for some good pizza. We definitely did not find it here. This place seems like they are putting out a good concept that ultimately falls flat with poor execution and overall mediocrity, even disappointment. We ordered 2 pizza and the meatball appetizer to go. It was ready in 15 minutes, we were surprised but pleased with the quick timing. Unfortunately by the time we got home, our pizzas were cold, which usually isn't the case when we get pizza to go. The pizzas were underwhelming to look at compared to how this place advertises them (see attached photos where I put in their advertised pictures alongside our actual pizzas.) The thin crust wasn't soft/crunchy like good thin crust pizza we know and love, it was actually incredibly doughy-- so for thin crust pizza, it was so weird for it to taste thick and chewy like that. The margherita pizza's basil was so small and dried up! There wasn't enough for there to be one on every piece, and I could barely see the basil on there. I understand that basil wilts in heat, but then throw some more on! Geez. And they were stingy with the pepperoni on the pepperoni pizza! There was even a slice without pepperoni. Then there was the meatball appetizer. The meatballs look so big and juicy on their website, when in reality they're very small and bland. And you can tell by taste that their ingredients aren't fresh. Sadly we were very underwhelmed by Vero Amore, and surprised that they have such a high Yelp rating as it is. Demand more, people of Tucson! Better pizza is out there. We haven't found it in AZ yet, but the search continues. read more

Ugh. This review is a long time earned 0 stars. We live in the area, and each time we decide to give this place another try we are disappointed yet again. Four years ago they had great food and great service. Over the years this location has really gone downhill. The food is definitely not the same quality- in fact, I think at one point a manager advised that they were microwaving frozen food instead of preparing it fresh. The service is horrible- they usually don't have enough staff. They also don't answer their phone regularly and you have to check every single item when you do pick up or delivery because they are lazy and never get the order correct. That would be okay or semi expected from somewhere I'm paying $5-8 an entree- not $15-$20. At one point, we tried a pick up pizza for the kids only to be told when we got there at the correct time "oh yeah we are having issues with our POS, so we took your money- can't refund you, and I can't complete any order and I have no food to give you." This was straight from a manager who thought giving a business card would suffice and be okay after we placed a nearly $60 order. Most recently, we were told that they had a limited menu due to their kitchen not having the correct appliances working. Seriously?! The only reason this continues to get decent reviews from people is because they have either gotten used to the below sub-par standard and have literally no other choice in the area, or they are going strictly for drinks. Oh! They just "opened" a wing spot right next door and we thought we would give it a fresh opinion to see if they have improved at all (and, let's be honest- we have like 5 places near us to choose from that are less than 30 min out)... same horrendous Vero Amore experience. Expensive wings- prepared inconsistently, ranch was missing from all but one of the flavors. They skipped an entire 1/2 pound of wings and gave us the wrong fries. Don't go here. The food is not worth the price or headache. Vero Amore in town actually has their shit together. If you can't or aren't willing to drive that far, here's a better and consistently excellent option- Charred Pie. Same wood oven style, only they have everything that this location lacks AND bonus! Dove Mountain Location. This place is a mess. We had ordered the Chicken Mimosa and it was like soup. The sauce was all watery. Our red head waitress was not attentive, she was very rude. She left our empty plates in front of us for about 20 minutes before she came to our table to clear it out. Took forever to get the dessert menu and coffee. By the time we got the coffee we were done with the desert. This place SUCKS. I hope this was an off day for this place. Cute little place!! Very small on the inside with limited seating but lots of space on the patio and pet friendly. We sat at the bar to get seated faster. The bartender wasn't the friendliest and didn't know much about wine recommendations. Appetizers were great, main entrees were okay. I ordered the Chicken Piccata and it was super slimy and the lemon over powered the entire dish. I came here for High Tea on the Saturday before Easter. This new tea time is held on Saturdays from 2 to 4. I reserved my spot for two about 2 weeks in advance. 3 days before our High Tea experience, I received a phone call from Vero Amore stating that they were now requiring us to prepay in full in order to reserve our spot, as they had people not show up to their reserved day. Not only that but the price I was expecting to pay, $30 per person, was now bumped up to $40 per person with taxes and gratuity included. I was pretty annoyed by these changes but ultimately after thinking about it I called back the next day and prepaid, because I really wanted to go. We arrived a couple minutes after 2 and were seated in a private area reserved for the High Tea time. Four tables were set up with two chairs at each table but only myself, my husband, and another party of two were the only ones there. I assume they set the other tables (which had waters, champagne flutes, and everything needed for the High Tea experience such as sugar cubes and cream etc) to allow us a choice on where to sit. Three types of tea were served and I was able to try all of them. This was not done buffet style as other reviewers had mentioned probably due to lack of guests showing for the day. The first course was quiche with salad greens, followed by three types of finger sandwiches. Then an ambrosia style fruit salad, followed by the final desserts of scones, brownies and lemon bars. Dessert was accompanied by champagne. Everything was delicious and service was amazing. I had quite a few refills of my tea and the food brought out with impeccable timing, definitely no complaints there. I was quite full by the time dessert rolled around so we did end up taking most of it home with us. I didn't expect to spend as much time as we did there but we stayed until about 3:30 and enjoyed our experience. I took away a star for the ridiculous policy of full prepayment which I was told is not refundable. Life happens, more important things come up, people get sick. To lose out on all of your money stinks, not even hotels still charge you full price if you don't show. They should really think about reducing the deposit to reserve your spot. The lady serving us said they were still working out the kinks so hopefully they read this and take my advice. read more

I hate to give a bad review during these times but I chose this place because of the reviews. Unfortunately our experience didn't mirror reviews. We ordered chicken fettuccine Alfredo and the lasagna. The chicken was white, rubbery and had no seasoning. The Alfredo sauce was watery and tasteless. I don't even think the pasta water was seasoned. The lasagna was absolutely nothing to brag about. I was surprised that there was not any sides, salad or bread offered. We sat down and waited at least 5 minutes for an acknowledgement from our waiter. Drinks and food came quickly but then he never came back. Water was never refilled. We had to go inside to order more beverages and food. When he finally came back with the drinks we had to ask about our bread. He wasn't sure so we told him to forget it as we were done eating. So disappointing. Try to support the neighborhood eateries especially since there are only two. Called to order pizza for my kids. One is vegan so I asked to make sure their marinara pizza was vegan. The gal who answered the phone then said they had a vegan crust so I said great. When we got it home it was actually cauliflower crust with egg. I called back and spoke with person answering phone and she said "What exactly are you looking for?? A refund?" I said no, my daughter is still hungry and can't eat this and I ordered that because I was told it was vegan. After she spoke to her manager they said they would make another. Come in 20 minutes. My husband went to pick it up 20 minutes later and No one knew what he was talking about and he had to wait another 20 minutes. I made a reservation a week before going to this location. Upon arrival they checked their book and asked me who I spoke with. Never before have I had to EVER take the name of the employee. I only remembered that it was a guy and that I made him repeat the information. The workers proceeded to try to fit 5 of us a 4 top table. No. Unacceptable. We are 5 adults. They they tried to arrange a table where one person would be on the end by themselves. Almost sitting with another table. Ugh. We had to point out that a booth had been vacated and if they cleared that ASAP, we could sit there. Lesson learned, take the name of the person taking the reservation, follow up a day later and take that person's name. I will also mention that many tables that were meant for 4 people, only had 2 people seated. They had many people waiting for seats. Manager needs to have a word with their employees on reservations and seating patrons. Now for the food. We all liked our appetizers, dinner and dessert. Everyone ordered different things. So there was a variety. Service was a bit slow. But we weren't in a hurry. Gave them 3 stars based on the mistake they made with my reservation other wise it would have been 4. read more

This place was hit or miss. The first time we ate there it was absolutely delicious and spot on. Large portions and delicious meals made this a favorite that we were compelled to return to you only to be disappointed the second time. Food came out cold and have a different flavor than before. When compared to the other Italian joint in town this is still the clear winner. And I'm sure to return. Having said this there is not much competition in town. I went here on a recommendation. With so many Italian restaurants to choose from its hard to be fair; but the meal was only satisfactory. I didn't try the wood fired oven pizza, which looked and smelled amazing. I will go back and try that. As far as the rest of the menu; meh. I came here on the suggestion of my girlfriend I was meeting for lunch yesterday. She raved about their food and has mentioned it many other times. The wood fire bread is amazing, but that's where my amazement ended. We shared a margherita pizza and fettuccine alfredo. Neither were very good. The fettuccine was significantly undercooked, although my friend didn't mind. The pizza was average at best. I have had much better pizza at Sauce. We came for lunch on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy in the least but our service wasn't up to my standards, especially for Dove Mountain. Our waiter was nice, but not very attentive. He did refill our drinks promptly. I doubt I'll try it again but I'm glad I can check it off my "need to visit" list. read more

A nice, casual, yummy break from a week of Ritz dining. The staff are a highlight - energetic, thoughtful, professional. Nice cocktails. Would suggest the bread with garlic butter - goes great with the meatballs. The Caesar salad had spot-on flavor - so much more than just romaine and croutons. And pizza is the star. It's NOT the gigantic cheap-eats pizza from a delivery service. It's high end, smaller, thinner and authentic. I read the other reviews and I'm 100% certain that if there was an "off" pizza or plate of food (it happens), the kind staff would have been more than willing to please with a replacement. I used to rate them 5 stars. My cousin lives nearby, and we loved eating at Vero Amore, whenever we visited. Four people, out of six in our party, ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo. I ordered something else, andit was ok. The others immediately sensed something was missing, as it was bland as nursing home food. Some added a little parmesan cheese and a ton of salt, just to eat it. My girlfriend took a few bites and quit eating it, and we took hers home. She wouldn't eat it, so I warmed it up and tasted. YUK!!! The cook made the roux, added chicken and mushrooms, then sent it out. No Parmesan or Romano cheese, whatsoever!!! That explains why they added all that salt, as cheese would've made it unnecessary. For just the two of us, I laid out $73, including tip (loved our server) for our meal, including this tasteless plate of pasta. Sadly, we've crossed this place off of our dining list. read more

Vero Amore definitely falls into my top three faves for Italian pizza in town. The ingredients are fresh, the dough is tasty, the house flat bread second to none and that herbed butter served in the side... Delicious! Vero Amore is casual and I like that. Its great for week night dinner but cozy and quaint for a date night too. The wine list is good and the beer list better. I've enjoyed pizzas, salads, panini a and mussels. The mussels were tasty but the tomato sauce lacked the richness you'd find in Italy. Nonetheless Vero Amore brings us a touch closer to Italy, all the way from the desert. read more
