Amazing food, great service, get the crisp rice with a stew of your choice as an appetizer. Lamb and Cornish hens were incredible. Hummus was on point. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own and they don't charge a corkage! If you forget to bring anything Safeway is across the street for beer or wine. Can't believe we didn't get here sooner. read more

From the outside Amoo's may be lacking (and that's putting it nicely), but the food makes up for it. The kabobs are all great, but the best might be the lamb! read more

Delicious with plenty of choices. Very nice ambience and we had the most wonderful service even with a slightly loud toddler.

This place came highly recommended to us, and we were very disappointed. The staff at the restaurant were gracious and helpful, and they threw a free order of baklava in our meal, which was generous of them. So no complaints there. The problem was the food. Our friends recommended several different kabob dinners, so that's what we ordered. The kabobs were lamb, chicken, and salmon. And they each came with a huge portion of rice. But there was a measly amount of meat with each one -- just one little skewer -- and an equally measly portion of veggies -- a couple of bites of roasted red pepper. So each meal was just a starch fest. The rice that came with the lamb and chicken was some kind of white rice, and it was fine. The rice that came with the salmon, however, was greenish and had a strong musty taste that was disgusting to me, besides which it completely overpowered the salmon. But that was okay in a way, because the salmon was dry and fishy (obviously old) and just as lousy. The lamb had a nice taste but was also very dry. I didn't try the chicken. The tab came to $72 for 5 people, including tax but not drinks or tip. I won't be going back here. read more

By far the best Persian cuisine in the area. Everything here is exceptional, from the food to the service. Hospitality unlike any other, making you feel like you are literally at someone's house. The food is beyond amazing, try the lamb and the seabass. Best I've ever had! read more

Do NOT dine here! This place commits credit card fraud. Although we clearly marked the total amount of our bill on the credit card receipt, they decided to overcharge our bill by adding extra zeroes to the end of our tip amount. Seriously? What a low move. Avoid this restaurant at all costs unless you are okay with your bill being magically multiplied by factors of ten. read more

This is one of my fav irani/ Persian restaurants. The service is phenomenal and the food is great. We always get the dish that comes with three meats: chicken, lamb and beef. The combination of salad or rice is great. I opt in for rice during dinner time. It is a big more expensive than other irani restaurants but I think it's totally worth it. read more

Hands down the best kabobs I've ever tried. Don't believe me, go and try it yourself! My sister brought me here for dinner one day and I was amazed. Located in a little strip of stores, you might just miss it if you aren't paying attention. Buried in the necks of McLean VA is this amazing kabob restaurant. I had a spicy lamb (special of the day) and it was melt in your mouth perfection. Not only was that good but the rice was amazing as well. The staff there were so nice, even though it was busy they still made you feel like you were the only ones in there. Sebastian did a great job of making me feel right at home! I follow him on instagram and he conjures up some great stuff! Not only do they serve just kabobs but many wonderful other stuff that I have no tried YET but I'll be back for them. Highly reccomended! read more

We came second for a weekday lunch as a first timer, they took the order from us as the last one --- fine, as long as we can have food. We asked if they have any source for the kabob, they took one over and later on add $5 on the bill without mentioning the cost when they took it over. You know, most places won't charge for that -- and for that much! They even argued with us for that?! How silly that was. Well, I don't feel treating well at this place that is all I can say. It was the first time and also the last time --- PERIOD ************************************ Hi there -- I'm just an ordinary customer wanted to share what I experienced. Fair review is what we are here for. It has no point to force it to make it a 4/5 stars, right? No interest to argue with anyone. For the folks want to go this place, if you want extra source, do expect extra charge. no one will tell you till you get the bill ;) read more

Amoo's Restaurant - Very Expensive - Persian/Iranian Near Me - McLean, Virginia

One of the worst experiences I ever had. Fesenjan and Mirza Ghasemi didn't taste like what they should taste. When we told to the staff, the manager came to us and very angrily said "I will give you $1000 if you bring me a better tasting Fesenjan!!! This is the best Fesenjan in the world!!!!" It was very disappointing specially in front of our foreign friends. I should say that our server was very nice to us. I will never go to this place again or recommend it to my friends. read more

Their food is not good. Their Koobideh Kabob taste like whatever you can imagine except Koobideh.

Very tasty food. The lamb is very tender. My mom had the filet and wasnt all that impressed. The kubideh and jujeh were great. I also had the tahdig with gheimeh (has cinnamon in it-some Persians do that). The owner was very sweet and went around to each guest to make sure they were being taken care of. read more

I gave this place a vist pursuant to their restaurant being featured on Groupon. Quick Rundown: Ordered the Tandoori Chicken and the Lamb Kabob (takeout) -the menu prices on the website are outdated....I was charged an additional $5 ($30 for both after using the $12 for $25 groupon) -they mixed up both my orders (serviced with rice insted of salad even after double confirming that I wanted salad instead of rice) -meat portions are small -tandoori chicken does not taste like tandoori chicken from any indian/persian restaurant I've been to before...tastes more like a chicken kabob I would have gave a one-star rating based on my experience from above, however, the lamb/chicken were actually pretty decent. To sum up: -portions are small for the price paid (not a good value) -do not advise ordering on the phone (my order was not correct) -pay attention to the amount they charge you read more

I give the food 5/5 stars for sure, it's absolutely delicious. The service could be improved though. Our waitress didn't come by our table much and when we asked for more water she got annoyed at us. read more

I brought in 14 people to celebrate my birthday to this location. I received great customer service and food quality was excellent. Here is the reason for poor rating and the fact that I will never come back nor will I recommend to any of my friends. As I walked in the owner suggested that instead of placing 14 separate orders let me bring you party platters for just 10 and that way everyone can sample different kabab and enjoy the variety of foods and that it will be more cost effective!!!!! When we received the bill it was $530.00!!! That's not all! when we gave them credit card, the owner said we are CASH ONLY establishment. When we insisted for reason they said Oh, we have a credit card machine but due to construction behind the building the Internet is down and we can't process Credit card!!! I happen to own large number of food establishments in the area, I asked politely why can't they call the 800 number and get authorization over the phone. He responded by saying we're too busy to get on the phone for this. I should add that the place was never 50% full on a "BUSY SATURDAY NIGHT"!?!?!? This was very embarrassing as people never walk around with $500+ cash in their pocket! The other point is that they prominently displayed all major credit card Decals on their main entrance. This owner was trying to save a few buck on the Merchant fees which he would have had to otherwise pay to accept credit card. I recommend to all those who consider this place to go to Shamshiry in Tyson's. Food is on par and although the place is not as pretty but the owner has INTEGRITY. read more

There is no finer Kabob in the state of Virginia. Not at Kabob Palace, not at Moby Dick, not at Meat in the Box. Nowhere. The menu is large, the options extensive. It's not just chicken, lamb, and kaftka here. There is sea bass, tenderloin, shrimp, lamb, salmon, chicken... and more. The meat is the most delicious and tender anywhere. The portions are ginormous and enough for two meals. Your mound of meaty delight and rice is served with hot naan and the most amazing green 'sauce' - a blend of jalapeno, cilantro, parsley, and garlic that is some sort of culinary crack. I can't get enough. I've had Amoo himself as my server and he is one of the nicest guys around. He's very polite and bows at the start and end of each meal. Don't miss out on this place. read more

Amoos is excellent overall! The restaurant is a little small, but cute and charming. Service is good and attentive. The chicken kabob is delicioussss, soft melt in your mouth. Highly recommend it! The kubideh is good, but I've had better honestly so I would do chicken over that. The baghali rice (dill and fava beans) is delicious so I would upgrade to that. I know this is really picky but I wish their salad had some feta in it haha, I just feel like feta goes with kabob so perfectly! But for real- their ice cream is money!!! You can taste the saffron, rose water and cardamom, phenomenal out of this word good, get it! The kabob is a little bit pricier than some other places, but overall worth it for a nice experience. read more

Returned here after many years and tried my favorite Kubideh (Amoos's Kubideh) and the taste/quality hasn't changed a bit! This, I can say with confidence, is the best Kubideh in the world! You will not regret it. Try this place, everything is delicious! read more

Wow, I can't believe that I drove by this place for three years, before finally trying it out with a Groupon. It's now one of my new favorites! Pros: - Spicy chicken tandoori and salmon kabobs are amazing. I don't know what they put in the marinade, but every bite is tender and flavorful. - Outstanding, friendly service, and I've only ordered takeout. Last time I was there, I tried to pay the extra $1 for fresh naan, and they wouldn't take my money. That's impressive! Cons (and the reason I'd dock 1/2 star, if Yelp let me): - No salad or side dish, except rice, comes with the kabobs, so you'll need to russle up a salad at home or order a side dish. - Lentil soup was ok, but I make a better one. Stick with the kabobs and you'll be very very happy! read more

Oh wow, this place is awesome. I went to dinner here with my sister for dinner and was very impressed. Firstly, everyone there was the nicest, friendliest group I think I've every encountered at a restaurant. Secondly, the food was soooo good. We got the Tahdigh with lamb, the Gormeh Sabzi, and the Lamb Sultani. The Tahdigh with a lamb shank was enormous, it's really practically a entree and it's definitely for two people. The Lamb Sultani had lamb and beef and was delicious. The rice is perfect and the sauce was amazing. I really wish I lived just a little bit closer so I could eat here all the time. Seriously, this is a wow place and I can't recommend it highly enough. read more

This is a good persian place to come eat at. I would make reservations ahead of time especially on the weekend. The place is small and it gets filled. Their menu isnt huge which sucked, but they have really good rice and kabobs. My favorite was their specialty rice and lamb koobideh. I didnt really care for their lamb loin filet although still good. Their tahdig wasnt amazing. But everything else was really good and service was great. read more

Five Stars doesn't do this place justice! Simply amazing. And to add to the awesomeness of the great food, the owner came over to me and my girlfriend as we're about to leave and thanked us for coming. The most humble owner. This place will resonate with people who have knowledge or studied Persia (food & politics do mix!), there was a gorgeous picture of Empress Farah above our table. Definitely going back! TIP: They don't serve wine but our waiter said it's allowed for patrons to bring their wine! read more

As a Persian- I would say I have had one of the best Kubideh's in the area at this place! Great service. Keep up the good work!

This place is magical. The care and love that goes into not only their food but into their customer service is phenomenal. They have the best Persian food i have ever had. My husband is just as obsessed as i am and we are true foodies. We always take our friends here whenever can and every single person can't believe how good it is. II love their stew's, especially in the winter. I don't generally like lamb but i LOVE theirs. My favorite dish is the tandoori chicken, YUM! All of the food is out of this world good and so creative. I would recommend this place to everyone!! read more

I've ordered from Amoo's a few times but this was the first time I dined in and I will not likely go back. First of all, the posts that complain about their questionable credit card practices are real. Despite very lackluster service (another common complaint on this site), they charge a mandatory 18% service charge for ALL parties (at least that's how I was charged and they confirmed when I asked). On top of that, they charged tax on the service charge itself, so a $100 meal for a party of 5 became $125. I was curious about this so I looked it up and they can only charge taxes on a service charge when the service charge is 20% or more: http://www.yelp.com/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ehow.com%2Finfo_12005372_taxes-service-charges-vs-gratuities-virginia.html&s=355889265abf07ea9144d0a204832cbab2c7d2f32a5432598a32afa067783358 I have to wonder what they are doing with the extra money. Also, after I had given the waiter our credit card he came back with just the credit card receipt and had removed the itemized receipt. The credit card receipt had a line to add a tip on it! I asked where the original itemized receipt was and the waiter said that he had thrown it away. After I pushed him on it he brought me another copy of the itemized receipt but said that it was the restaurant copy so he had to have it back?! I wondered why he couldn't just print out another copy. I also wondered if they were trying to get extra tip money. Otherwise with ambiance was OK, the food was slightly above average, and the service was bad. After we got the food, the wait staff virtually ignored us, belatedly bringing us extra yogurt that we asked for and not cleaning up our table. We had to stack up the plates ourselves. After all this confusion and poor service I would not recommend Amoos, I will likely stick with Moby Dicks. read more

I've only tried the Tandoori chicken kabob, but I can say it is the best kabob in metro DC. A little spicy and meat so moist. The other kabobs looked similarly delicious and I'll try them on future visits. read more

This is the best Middle Eastern food that I've eaten , by far--in the Arlington/McLean/Falls Church area and possibly anywhere. The chicken I had was the most tender I've ever eaten. The beef was also incredibly tender. I thought it was far better than Lebanese Taverna, Layalina, or Afghan Restaurant. (Moby Dick's is in a different category altogether.) The prices are reasonable; a combination beef/chicken plate is $18 and is enough to feed two people. One-meat dishes are $12-14, I believe. Bread is complementary. The owner was very friendly and courteous; as the only person serving the tables, he was almost overwhelmed--but our food came very quickly. If you go, definitely try the Persian ice cream--incredible. read more

Cons: No lunch menu/specials. Expensive -- the only veggies include with the "Lamb" dish was A roasted tomato. Needs more veggies, less rice. The lamb was very tender and delicious. Wish this place was more affordable. I guess the rents around here are pretty high (McLean). read more

The food in this Persian restaurant is excellent, authentic and wholesome. The service, however, needs some improvement. A fatwa on the waiter who, with a cretinous sneer, refused to give us separate checks and had to be reminded about our orders. At one point we had to go into the kitchen to request another iced tea. The decor is something one would find in a cheap tourist trap in Tehran. Recommendation: to avoid this unpleasantness, opt for takeout, eat at home and enjoy a fine meal. read more

Folks, we have a new winner. This kabob house is legit! The food is outstanding, and the service is unmatched. When we arrived, Amoo himself came to greet us, shook our hands, and showed us to our table. He came back to check on us a few times, and just could not have been nicer. I had the chicken breast kabob and my friend had the tandoori chicken kabob, which was marinated in jalapeno and herbs. Both were excellent - flawless, in fact. We had sides of mast-o-kheyar (yogurt with cucumbers and herbs) and shirazi salad (diced cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes with seasoning and vinaigrette). Once we'd finished the sides, I wished we'd ordered more! I really wanted to try the saffron-vanilla-pistachio ice cream, but was just too full to eat another bite. Next time I will know to save room! The restaurant is a little tricky to find in the dark, but once you get there, I guarantee it will be worth the trip. I will most definitely be back! read more
