Been here twice and have not been disappointed. The place is small and crowded but the food is good. It is similar to Shamshiry and just as good. I got the chicken chimichurri soltan and my wife got the bison, yes bison! The meat was perfect and the rice was great! Well spiced and flavored meat grilled to perfection, we were very happy. The price for the food is a good deal ~$20 for most entrees. The amount of food is good for an entree especially if you get a sultan dish. The service is quick and good. I would recommend making reservations especially on the weekends. It seems like they do have a time limit to help accommodate reservations and getting people in. My friend Margaret and I had a very nice time at Amoo's Persian restaurant in McClean this week (8/27/25). While in a somewhat casual setting (no white table clothes), the ambiance was very nice with soft (Persian?) music in the background. Our server (11 years working there) was exceedingly pleasant and full of information (albeit she was not Iranian). The Persian entrees were delicious, and reasonably priced. Loved this place! Being Persian, this food was the most authentic Persian food in the area. While visiting, we came here on two separate occasions despite trying other persian places in between. Food is fine, service and management are horrendous and the pricing on the menu is deceptive. We both ordered entrees and asked for half rice and half salad (plain white rice, no special rice). When the bill came, we were both charged $4, claiming that half rice and half salad warrants the upcharge. I pointed out the menu only says the $4 charge only applies if you order a special rice. The waiter took the bill back, discussed with her manager, ran my card (with the charges) and then plopped down the completed check at the table and just walked away, without even acknowledging if there was a resolution. I pointed this out to the manager on the way out who initially fought us that the charge was warranted but eventually agreed it was not after we looked at the menu together. He blamed the fact that his staff "are not PhDs" and "do not speak good English". In reality, their English was quite good and he threw them under the bus right in front of them which is inappropriate. To his credit, he did offer to refund the charge (which we declined) - the overall service and disparagement from management, along with mischarging us, means we will never be returning here. read more

We visited Amoo's for the first time today and really enjoyed it. We went for lunch and left with enough food for dinner. The staff and owner were so kind and helpful and the food was delicious. The bread was hot, the eggplant dip with caramelized onions was a perfect complement, and the kebobs were stand out. I had the pesto chicken and my friend had the beef, but both were tender, juicy, and well seasoned. We will definitely return soon! read more

We searched for a Persian restaurants that served more than just Kebobs and Rice. There are many pretty good ones that do just that in the DMV area which we are very happy with. However there is much more to Persian cuisine which we wanted to explore, and we found just the place with Amoo's. It is well reviewed, so we just want to agree and add our impressions of the experience. It is in an unassuming location in McLean, but inside it is warm and inviting. The owner/manager is there to greet each patron as they enter. He is friendly, always present and welcoming - we've noticed that during several visits to his establishment. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by his smile, warmth and genuine hospitality. We were here on a weekend night. The place was full but we were seated almost immediately; we had a reservation. Loved the lighting. We started with the Laboo (fire roasted beets) incredible!! They were warm, the beets were juicy and they had crunchy flavors nuts and chunky cheese. I highly recommend this dish! Kasha Bademjan Dip (Eggplant with the carmelized inions yogurt). Good flavor but weird texture I am not used to. Like pumpkin pie filling. Onions on top helped but would not order this again. Not my style. Ashe Reshteh Soup was too sour for me but I liked the textures there were beans and noodles and it was a diverse soup. We also tried the chicken soup which had lots of cheese. So much flavor and really delicious - it was a bigger hit. Noodles tomatoe flavor. Yum. Tahdig. A bottom of the pot dish. The stew we chose on top was Fesenjan (chicken with pomegranate walnut source.). Very good; my friends favorite. The flavor was incredible. The texture of the rice was really hard. The acidic walnut pomegranate sauce was not ordinary at all. And lamb chops. These were my favorite after the beets. They savory meat complimented the sweet toppings. This dish aroused primal urges to moan deep within me! My big complaint is that they turned the lights up at the end. All the lights. It ruined the perfect ambiance while we were awaiting for our bill. No reason to turn the lights on and ruin the atmosphere of a perfect time. We also had dessert. Awesome Kebab place in McLean . You should try this restaurant special kebab if you are a food lover and visiting Virginia. Amoo is one of my favorite eating place for Kebabs. This is my go-to spot for kabobs! The meat is always tender and flavored really well. I especially love how they put edible, pretty flowers and micro-greens on their dishes. It adds a nice touch to the kabobs. Recently, I ordered the chicken soltani (mix of chicken and koobideh) and kashk bademjan (eggplant dip). I would definitely order the kabob combo again, but I would probably pass on the dip. I generally love foods with eggplant in it, but this one didn't blow me away. The service is consistent and the prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. The restaurant is situated in an odd spot and parking is limited, but I have never had an issue finding a spot. Amoo is always there to give the biggest greetings as you dine. It's a simple place in the middle of an odd strip mall beside a tobacco store and Chinese take-out. Friendly staff will greet you. They have a full selection of Persian favorites. I had the saffron chicken and koobideh plate and he had barg and koobideh. There was nothing left by the time he finished it. My food was so incredibly moist and tender. They both melted in my mouth. There was something magical about the saffron chicken. It sang to me. I can't leave without my favorite bastani. It was a bit sweet to my preference but still delicious and recommended. Amoo came by and spoke to my date in Farsi and told him stories about his life in Iran and origins. He's quite charming and so sweet. He makes you feel like family. I used to come here off and on over the years and I can say that the food has improved greatly. Shamshiry has always been my spot but Amoo's food and service last night was actually better. BLUF: the food was very good, but the service seemed very unorganized and spotty I went with a pretty large group on a weekday evening. The restaurant was about half full. We ordered a range of food including appetizers. Easy way to put it is that most of the appetizers were very good but frankly pretty small. I was pretty disappointed in my appetizer which was a beet salad. It was underdressed, but more importantly it was supposed to have cheese crumbles and I'd be surprised if there was even a full teaspoon of crumble on there. It really just tasted like someone had cut up some beats and hadn't made any effort at all to add any flavor or seasoning or uniqueness to them. The bread that they serve to everyone as a precursor to the meal is actually very tasty. The entrees were routinely good. The only aspect that bothered me here is that three of us ordered the same entree and each of them looked different. There were differences in quantity and variety of food in the plate. For example one might have less meat pieces and more beans and so on. Throughout the night the staff was very friendly but seemed rushed and the service was not uniformly good. One person waited quite a while just to get a water glass, and water refills didn't happen as frequently as I should have. This is a family restaurant and I do think even the staff wished things had gone more smoothly. Reading between the lines I think maybe they were short staffed that night. The food was good enough that I'd be willing to go back to see if maybe it was just a fluke night as I suspect. read more

Was there for the first time since the pandemic, to treat a friend for lunch a few weeks ago. I seem to remember it was an affordable mom and pop restaurant with great service that served great, tasty food at reasonable prices. This time the food was ok, and definitely not as great as I remembered in the pre-COVID days. And the prices have also gone up substantially--as they have everywhere since COVID, as everyone is presumably trying to recoup their losses. But a rise in prices combined with a decrease in quality is not a winning formula. The saving grace was the service, which was as wonderful as it was before. Solid choice of a restaurant! I went to a chain in Atlanta (Rumi's) that had similar food but am happier to support a local one such as this. I chose it bc they have shirin rice, which includes orange peel, cranberries and pistachios to create a salty, sweet, savory side. The ground lamb and chicken kabobs were meaty and there was enough food in one entree for 3 meals for me. The service was accommodating and timely, too, and the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. Amoo's is a bright yellow dandelion growing in the middle of a concrete jungle. This family owned restaurant serving traditional and funkified Persian food is truly a gem. I've been a kebab addict ever since I was introduced to it in high school (Shout out to Rebekah!) but never have such succulent, tender meat touched my lips before. Amoo's is the real deal and I love how they are not afraid to add a dash of fun into their traditional meals as well (I see you Chimichurri and Jerk Kebabs!). This place is a little bit pricier than your average Moby Dicks but they use premium ingredients and the portions are much, much heartier (one platter can serve two!). It also tastes a lot better too! My daughter and I absolutely loved the salmon kebabs and Kashk Bademjan Dip. The rest of the fam went wild over the Kubideh and different iterations of chicken kebabs on the menu. Unfortunately we ordered too much and had to skip out on the rose saffron ice cream but mark my words, we will be back! Even though this restaurant has been around for years, it's still very popular with locals. We luckily got a table without reservations but we saw many people get turned away. And finally, a secret sixth star to the servers who were all so kind and accommodating. I was impressed with the food here. When I looked over the menu before going, I wasn't thrilled about kabobs. I tend to think it's overpriced for some meat, rice and salad. Also, the pictures made it look like a very casual restaurant. I'm not sure if they recently renovated, but it was nicer than it looked in the pics. Very nice, cozy atmosphere. They do get very busy so reservations are highly recommended. The parking situation here is not so great though. Not many spaces available in front and they will tell you to park across the street in the Safeway parking lot. Moving onto the food... We ordered hummus and the eggplant appetizer which was served with naan. The eggplant was very good and I usually don't eat eggplant! They also give you butter that you can put on the warm bread and it just melts...yum. I chose to order the steak, but it didn't look as good as it did in all of the Yelp pics when it came out. Not much flavor to the steak either so I was disappointed in my dish. However, I tried the chimichurri lamb and the cornish hen...those dishes were delicious. If you can handle some spice, I'd go with the lamb. There is no gamey taste to it and it was very tender. The cornish hen was very juicy and had some good flavor to it. We then tried the saffron ice cream. Very unique and different taste. After a few spoonfuls, I couldn't stop eating it. Overall, very good food and the service is great! read more
