Came on a weeknight (made a reservation, to be safe) and had superb customer service that compelled me to write a review. Greeted by an older gentleman (possibly the owner?) who went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The wait staff was friendly as well, I didn't catch the name of our server but she was very kind and answered all of our questions. Food tasted great and fresh. Only con is the limited parking in front of the restaurant, but some reviews suggest parking in the Safeway plaza across the street if it's busy. Will return! read more

Despite dining out often, I don't often take the time to write reviews. We were so impressed by both the service and food at Amoo's we wanted to share our experience. It's no wonder why this restaurant has been a staple in the neighborhood for almost 20 years. From the welcoming staff who greeted us on arrival to the delicious saffron ice cream we had for dessert, every part of our experience was delightful. The tenderness of the meat and flavors of the food stood out to us - highly recommend the sea bass and Autumn Kadoo. We will be back! read more

Oh my myyy!!!! As everyone already seen and heard about good comments and reviews. And yes, Amoo's definitely has the best classic Persian dishes, and kebabs in town. Most of the time kebabs are dry at some places that I have tried, but not here. Meats are super tender and packed with flavors, even rice too, a lot of herbs and spices that work very well together. We ordered the Barg (flattened beef tenderloin), Chimichurri Chicken Soltani ( chicken and koobideh which is beef), and last but not the least, the Mahicheh (lamb shank stews). The lamb shank stew was phenomenal. Service is excellent, we felt very welcome and the owner actually came say hi, and suggest good options for us to pick. I am excited to come back and try other dishes. read more

We are genuinely grateful that we got to dine at Amoo's and chat with Chef Sebastian Oveysi. He is one of the very talented and top-rated chefs in the DC metropolitan area. We could taste his dedication and passion from his Persian fusion dishes - from the exquisite presentation to the savory flavors. The patient and friendly wait staff just made our overall dining experience even better! [Laboo] (Available September-February) Chef Seb recommended us to get this Fall-and-Winter-only dish, Laboo. It's a warm salad - roasted beets with pomegranate basil sauce, topped with crumbled goat feta. My husband and I don't really prefer beets in our salads, but oh boy did this dish surprise us! Maybe because the beets were cooked, so they were sweet, juicy, and soft. We especially loved the sweet and sour pomegranate sauce, it was a very appetizing start to our meal. Seriously, just give this salad a try even if you don't like beets very much! [Chimichurri Lamb Kebab] Chimichurri is a South American/Argentinian chili pepper sauce commonly used to marinate meat. This sauce was used to marinate the widely known Persian kabob lamb, creating this fusion dish. It comes with saffron rice, roasted Roma tomato, and a piece of beautiful edible homegrown orchid. The green-chili-peppery sauce worked out very well with the fire-grilled lamb. We just love meat that is a bit spicy, so this matched our palates perfectly. The roasted tomato was nice and juicy, and it was probably lightly salted too. If you can't handle spicy food, this may give you a little kick. What a unique creation that added Argentinian excitement to a traditional kebab skewer! [Kadoo with Lamb Shank] (Available September-February) We loved this dish the most because of its exquisite presentation and the flavor combinations! Kadoo means squash in Persian. This dish is served with a hearty stew of your choice. We got the lamb shank stew, which was braised for hours, so the meat just fell apart easily. The acorn squash was presented like an open flower with the stew placed inside of it. Our lamb was seasoned with garlic and tomato sauce and the acorn squash was baked till it's easy to be forked out. Flavorful and savory tender lamb shank paired with a beautiful sweet squash - a smart and yummy combination. [Persian Loose-Leaf Black Tea] We came on the first day of snow in December and Chef Seb brought us some hot tea to start off our meal. It's a homemade creation that consists of four plants - earl grey, cardamom, rose petals, and lavender. What a combination! It felt super soothing and calming. It comes with some sugar cubes if you'd like your tea sweetened, but definitely try tasting the pure tea without sugar so you can taste the rose and lavender flavors in there! [Saffron Ice Cream] The saffron ice cream was actually one of the major reasons we came here after reading other Yelpers' reviews. Their saffron ice cream is made in the house, a recipe passed down from the chef's mom. Different from other saffron ice cream, theirs has honey and cardamom mixed into it. It's topped with some sour cherry. Love the pistachio and the chewiness of the ice cream because it feels very natural, unlike store-bought ice cream that sometimes you can taste the frozenness (if you know what I mean). We also love that this wasn't very sweet. It felt so light that we finished all four scopes in like 3 minutes. [Parking] Shared open parking lot spaces with neighbor businesses (laundromat, Pizza Hut, and a Chinese restaurant). [Area] Amoo's is located just 5 miles (about 13 minutes) from the Tysons Corner mall (one of the biggest malls in Virginia) if you wish to go shopping or watch a movie before or after your meal. :) read more

Chicken Sultani and Koubideh Combo!!! Once again, I started eating my delicious food before sharing it with you all. Hands down they are the best. Love the atmosphere and the people. The chicken is always spoon tender, I don't know why there is a fork on my plate. The koubideh is flavorful. I can't even be the normal person who says that I just take the leftovers home because I'd rather stuff myself full of this yumminess and ask the kids to roll me out. For this restaurant, I have no shame on my utmost satisfaction. read more

Food is really good. We went on a weekend afternoon during lunchtime though and the place was empty. When I first walked in I was overwhelmed by the smell of cleaning chemicals. It was a turn off and I'm not even that sensitive to smells. The ambiance needs some work. I noticed as we sat there eating that there were quite a few to go orders being picked up. read more

Pleasantly surprised when I came to Amoo's for the first time. My family always order takeout and I've had it at multiple events/weddings but never at the restaurant so I was excited to finally try it fresh out the oven/kitchen. My friends told me they recently renovated the space and that I should be glad I didn't see it before - loved the paintings on the wall and the little touches that take you back to Persia - made you feel like you were at someones home. The owner welcomed us so warmly which was incredibly cute and my friend (who is a regular there) said he does that to everyone - which I still think is cute and adds a personal touch. Now to the main topic: FOOD! The food was delicious. We ordered the "Kashk Bademjan Dip" which is a roasted eggplant in puree form topped with crispy caramelized onions and yogurt *dies* if that description doesn't do it for you, I don't know what will. Along with their fresh hot oven bread, it doesn't get better than that. We also got some hummus and shirazi salad to share as starters. Perfection. We were 4 people and ordered 2 chicken Soltani's and 1 Norwegian salmon that came on a bed of saffron rice. Everything was delicious except for the Salmon. My friend spoke highly of it but when we tried it, the salmon was dry and chewy.. did not melt in my mouth like my friend explained. Perhaps it was an off day for the Salmon so I will definitely try it again. Amoo's is a solid 4 stars and most certainly a higher end Persian/Iranian restaurant in the DMV. The prices are heftier than other Persian spots so make sure you know that before going. read more

The food was excellent but the service was terrible. The ambiance was minimal and no music. From what we could tell, you get service if you are a regular. It was a new place for us so we did not make the cut. frustrating because there were 2 managers running around talking to Persian tables but none ever came to talk to us. I actually picked this restaurant because all the yelp reviews said there was great service and everyone was so friendly. The waitresses ignored us for the first 15 minutes until my friends husband asked for a menu. Then our waitress gave us menus and suggested we order immediately because there were a few parties that came in after us. So we ordered... immediately... it did not matter since all those tables got their food and several left before we got our food. My husband, after 40 minutes, got up to talk to our waitress and ask about the appetizers. She was surprised we did not have them... wasn't she suppose to check?! Our food was delicious so I am really sad about the service. 2 hours for appetizers and main courses. We may have had dessert if we did not think it would add another hour. They didn't even hardly apologize and the managers probably didn't even know we were there. read more

YUMMY! I came here with my fiance on a friday night for dinner and was not disappointed at all. Amoo's is located in a tiny little strip of shops, and the parking is sadly not the greatest, its very very limited, and you cant park next door even if the stores are closed, you'll get towed. But there's a Safeway you can park at that's within a comfortable walking distance. Onward to the food! For an appetizer we got kashk-e- bademjan which is an eggplant dip, and hummus. The eggplant dip is warm, and freakin delicious, served with warm bread. You cannot go wrong with this at all. The hummus was good but not as smooth as you might be used to, but it felt homemade and we still loved it. I got the Zereshk Polo with lamb tenderloin. The rice was so good, it wasnt heavy feeling and even better tasting with the addition of barberries to the rice. The lamb was so so tender. My fiance got chicken and ground beef kabob, I tried it and wish we had more. It was so moist and tender. The portions are absolutely HUGE. We both took home boxes. The service was super friendly, and an older gentleman who I might assume is owner/ world's cutest man, came around to greet every table with a warm friendly smile and well wishes. I wished I lived closer, gonna be needing a fix soon! read more

******this review is for vegetarian items only******* Omg!!!! The appetizers were the eggplant dip, the hummus and warm pita bread...absolutely delicious. We were competing to get the most from the plate. The only exception to the appetizers was the Paneer Sabzi..which were just cucmbers (5 peices), tomatoes (4 slices) and some parsley with a small cube of salty feta. I thought it was a waste of money but maybe its a regional thing. I got the vege kabab with the dill flavored rice with lima beans...i literally ate it all..it was unbeleivably good. The kabab had grilled sweet peppers, zuccini, onions with a slight char..beautiful. I usually feel getting a vege kabab is a waste of money because all i get is mostly onions or a huge chunk of green pepper..but not this one. We got the yogurt drink as well, and the yogurt with cucumbers..which was also good. The highlight though was the icecream...so creamy so good with saffron and some pistacios that you wont even know are there except for the yummy taste. The interior was clean and actually quite stylish. The service was also friendly and quite. We went with kids and they were very kid friendly too. Usually the number of high chairs in the restraunt gives me a good idea about how child friendly they are. Overall it was a great dining experience. read more

The food was good and the presentation was pretty. It just wasn't great..like if I never had to go here again, in my life, I'd be pretty okay with that. I can't lie and say I wasn't disappointed in the food because I absolutely was. My dates enjoyed it (their first time eating Persian food) and I was happy they did; I'd definitely like to take them to more Persian restaurants. IMO; Amoo's restaurant is Persian food that caters GREATLY to the American palate. Flavors that I was expecting to stand out, didn't. Amoo's is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in McLean. The interior is actually very nice and cozy. They specialize in kabobs and other grilled meats served over rice or salad. Their menu also includes some classic appetizers and deserts like hummus and a Persian mashed roasted eggplant. We started with hummus and the eggplant (kashk-e bademjan). Fresh flat bread was brought to the table which was the perfect vessel for these tasty spreads. The hummus was smooth and creamy, and the eggplant was garlicky, roasty and savory. Both dishes were tasty. I haven't been to many Persian restaurants as a reference point but they seemed well seasoned and balanced. For entree we had the zereshk polo (saffron rice with barberries and lamb tenderloin skewer) and the filet mignon kabob. The saffron rice with barberries was delicious with hints of sweetness and tartness from the barberries. This perfectly compliments the tender lamb tenderloin and mitigates any potential gaminess. The filet mignon was tasty and in a new preparation than I was accustomed to - it's a long flat slab of filet that's grilled instead of chunks of meat. I almost thought it was a skirt steak but the tenderness confirmed it was filet. It was tasty and cooked well. We finished with small bites of the baklava. These crispy sweet morsels were loaded with crushed nuts and sweet syrup. Once again I'm not a desert guy but I thought it was made well. This is definitely one of the best locations for high quality kabobs in the area. Come for the kabobs. Enjoy some appetizers and snacks but come for the kabobs. Place looks dated and so was most of our food , hummus did not have a smooth consistency but did appear fresh and the bread was served warm but that's where it ended. Jerk Chicken bland and flavorless, Vegetation Gheymeh old and a warmed over bland inedible mess. Quality just isn't there either. When owner (I assumed) stopped by his pleasant demeanor soon changed to sour when I gave the dish back to him. He did ask if I wanted an exchange and when I declined he did not remove it from the bill, I chalked it up to experience and paid, but you can bet I won't return or recommend this establishment. read more

We found out about Amoo's because we've eaten at the Saffron Gourmet Truck a couple of times and discovered Amoo's is run by the same family. We love the Saffron Gourmet food truck so we knew we'd be in for a treat. We came after a show very early at 5pm on a Saturday. To be honest, we thought that we'd be the only people there and were a little embarrassed to be eating so early. As it turns out Amoo's is really popular. There were several other early eaters and it looked like more than half of the tables were reserved. Fortunately we were still seated immediately. On top of that, Amoo himself came and greeted us. We were very impressed. Amoo suggested a meat sampling that contained chicken, lamb, and beef. The meal came with saffron rice (which you can substitute with greens if you want). As expected, everything was delicious. We were audibly commenting (and moaning) how good the food was. My favorite was the chicken and normally I'm not a chicken person. My husband's favorite was the ground filet. The rice was sooo good too. It was one of those things were I kept eating it even after I was full. We had a bunch leftover and took it home. For dessert we tried the saffron ice cream. Let me tell you: BEST ice cream EVER. It was an experience in itself. Service was exceptional as well. Well worth the price. Give it a try--you won't regret it. read more

I probably ran into the owner when I went to pick up my $50 order today. Refused to take the $10 off discount. Then told me to wait outside for 30min in sweltering heat till my order was ready. I was in a mask; he was not. Then he told me the store wasn't open yet despite the bright neon sign saying "Open" on the outside. Food never tastes good when the customer service is poor. I canceled the order and won't go back again. read more

Love the food here. Service is a hit or miss. One time we arrived before 2 other tables (and it was very visible), the Asian female waitress served the other 2 tables and totally disregarded us. We didn't make a fuss because we are also in the food industry. As we were considering to get up to leave, the owner came before our countdown was up to take our order. As for the food - 5/5 always. Love the green sauce that comes with the pita bread. The chicken soup was also very hearty. Did not care for the crispy rice with pork. I love their beef and chicken dish. One thing that I observed last time when I dined in, there was a trail of ants crawling along the walls while I was eating and it really bothered me lol. read more

So this place wasn't the best Persian restaurant I've been to. I think California and Vancouver win when it comes to Persian food. We ordered: Masto mouser was good but needed more salt and flavor. Tahdig with ghorisht Sabzi was good- the tahdig was soft could have been more crispy I would suggest they make bread tahdig and make it crunchy. My mom's ghorisht sabzi is better. We got the kobideh, chicken and lamb kabob for $32. The kobideh was ok not amazing not much flavor. The chicken was the same the lamb which I usually hate was the best it's like barg but it was super duper tender melts in your mouth. Again everything was ok but not amazing and I felt like everything needed more flavor, like they added something that muted all the flavors. We also got the fisinjoon, which I just wanted a little taste but she brought a whole dish and it was $19!!! We didn't eat any of it, it was bad. Do not get the fisinjoon! We got baklava and the ice cream. Baklava tasted old and stale, but my friend liked it. The ice cream was yummy!!! Maybe add less yellow coloring to it. The staff was friendly. My family and I have been here multiple times in the past 2 years. This restaurant never disappoints. I give it 4 for ambiance and 5 for food. The ambiance is casual and the staff are friendly. The owner is professional and kind. He always greets us and shakes our hand. As a Persian who thinks my mother's Persian cooking gets 3 Michelin star, this place comes very close to how amazing her food tastes. We have tried almost everything on the menu. You just can't go wrong. If it's your first time trying Persian food I recommend getting a combination plate consisting of kobideh kabob with Bargue( marinated filet minon grilled over fire) and chicken kabob. The flavors are amazing you won't be disappointed. If you're in mood for stews, try the fesenjoon or ghormeh sabzie. Fesenjoon( photo attached) is stew consisting of ground walnuts, chicken and pomegranate sauce and sugar cooked to perfection. It is a little sweet but absolutely worth it. The ghormeh sabzie( photo attached) consists of paste of ground up parsley and few other Persian herbs, kidney beans and meat. Again, it won't disappoint. I strongly recommend visiting this little gem. The flavors will take you on a amazing Persian spices and flavor tour. Finish your meal with chia and Persian ice cream. Ice cream is vanilla ice cream infused with tons of saffron and cream. It will not disappoint. read more

What can I say honestly, everything was just wonderful here. Amoo's is a Persian kebob restaurant and I had a great experience tonight at dinner with my friends. The first thing they bring you is hot pita bread with butter and this green spicy cilantro tasting sauce (I don't know the name of it sorry!). Really delicious when you spread the butter and sauce on it and is a good appetizer to the upcoming meal. When they brought my plate out I was blown away. The presentation was spectacular, it visually looked appetizing and it seemed they really put an effort to make the food look good. I ordered the combination of chicken and beef kebob with a roasted roma tomato. the chicken was absolutely delicious - so tender and juicy and great with some squeezed lemon. The beef was tender and delicious as well. The saffron rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly. I recommend letting your kebob juices marinate with your rice. They have tahdig yall! And it's as fantastic as I remember! Although to be fair, the tahdig I got back in Louisville was just the crunchy bread and lavash - here you can get it with one of the stews on top which makes it even more amazing. More awesomer? We eat first with our eyes, and the dishes were beautifully composed, the edible flower a very nice touch. We had the tahdig with Gheymeh Bademjan, which is the tenderloin and eggplant as a starter. Skeeter then went with the chimichurri chicken soltani, which is the chicken and beef kabobs, with an upcharged baghali polo (Lima beans, dill sauce and rice), while I went old school with a lamb kabob and the zereshk polo (barberries and rice). Both were fantastic. We ended with a saffron ice cream which is absolutely a valid reason to delay your departure. Staff was friendly and answered all our questions. The room is small and despite being open, it's an intimate setting. With a few drinks, we were right at the Benjamin mark for the evening and considered it well spent for an evening such as this. Recieved very poor quality and tasteless food on my online order, we needed o trash all foods and order from somewhere else for our guests. Very bad experience! Their prices are higher than any other middle eastern restaurant so we expected better quality food, but the ones we received were very much below average! Nice cozy restaurant. I ordered hen with rice and it was perfect. Service was fast and clean restaurant.

I really really wanted Amoo's to be my favorite Persian but it didn't. I got koobidah and saffron chicken. The koobidah kebab I didn't like the taste compared with the one at Shamshiry. It had a lot heavy taste. Maybe more of spices and onion I guess. Maybe I got used to to other one more. The chicken was tastier yet the side salad was not really tasty and the dressing. Another thing was one of our pita bread was burned as you will see in the pictures so we asked for another one but the waitress told me extra $1.50 for the pita. This is not nice for such a restaurant in which the prices are higher than other Persian restaurant la in DMV area. I gave the 3 stars just because of the owner since as I observe the place he was really taking care of the tables and being attentive and friendly. Even tough we didn't talk to him. He does a lot for his place. So I hope this place gets better in all ways. For the pricing this place is really expensive when I compare with Albortz or shamsiry or moby dick. We like the saffron ice cream so ordered one to share but it was really less than what we expected. Anyway this was our experience. Thanks Update : ( I am not deleting anything in my original review ) In my first review I gave here 3 stars but now I had to take it my review to one star and I wish yelp gave us to give zero star. Why this change : Here are the reasons : For the bread issue : yes we got 3 pita bread when we first sat. And ate that while we were waiting for tasteless kebabs. When the kebabs arrived we already finished all the bread because we came there with a great excitement that we will be trying your restaurant. And as YOU KNOW the part of the world where we come from , we eat bread a lot. You are Iranian you must know this. Another things we didn't ask for the bread to take home but you obviously saw the burnt bread. We asked for another one for that one particular. In my review I also compares your restaurant to Shamshiry. So let me tell you : They never charge for their bread. You can ask for bread as much as you want. They happily bring each time you ask. They don't look at your face as your staff do. Believe me it does not cost you a lot. Because when you do your expense you don't calculate all the tables ask for more bread. For the check issue : Yes , I posted the first check because you charge with those prices ; am I right ? Or you give each table %20 discount??. I mean if you are doing so it is a good thing because since the People don't get a great kebab but at least they get the discount. So they get less upset. I know how to tip waitstaff I never tip less than %20-25 but here you really need to do more training. But you have to start from yourself. How to respond bad reviews about your restaurant. We could not consume what we had so I asked to go container to give the food to my Neighbour's dog that loves kebab :) But he even couldn't eat yours maybe his body is alert to old meat. I live in Bethesda Maryland. And here there are a great community of nice Iranian people. After my disappointing experience with this restaurant , I wanted to check with friends to see how their review with your restaurant. You know what ; all my IRANIAN friends told me that I made a mistake going to your restaurant. They told me more than what I have experienced. They never come to your restaurant. But shame on me that I haven't checked with them before I came to the restaurant. Anyway Good luck. But be open minded and respectful to all reviews. Don't worry if you behave this way you win later. Think twice before respond. Especially if you are the owner of a restaurant. read more
