The only place I know that has good, cheap dosa. Has water at your convenience as well. Vibes are always popping here. Super yummy, definitely wanna try more flavors on here! Service is fast, cashier friendly and helpful for recommendations.

I finally went to Amma Kitchen after my family had been raving about it for years. I had some Rava Onion Paneer Dosa, Rava Onion Masala Dosa, Sambhar, Rasam, chutneys, and a Mango Lassi - a nice and full meal! Overall, Amma was solid! It gave me the crispy dosa with spicy sambhar/rasam fixing I was looking for. However there are definitely better South Indian restaurant options in NOVA. The rava dosa was extremely crispy and flavorful but the paneer filling tasted a little plain. It could've used more masala and tikka flavors. There was also barely any paneer or potato filling. The sambhar was okay, nothing special. The rasam quantity was amazing but it was extremely oily and lacked next-level flavors. Again it did the job on a cold rainy day!

We checked this place when we were in DC for the Cherry blossoms. We did a pickup order for our dinner and it didn't take a lot of time for the food to be ready by the time we arrived at the restaurant. The food quality was very good and the packaging was excellent. Saw quite a number of people enjoying their dinner and also an equal number of people waiting to get their order picked up. Wish the interior cleanliness of the place matched what was offered on the outside.

Poor customer service and subpar food. Balaji Cafe - which isn't that good either - is basically their twin, but I would still go with Balaji because of their slightly better customer service. Nonetheless, find an alternative to this place if you're craving Dosas. As a big Dosa lover, I came here having read somewhat positive reviews on Yelp; however to my dismay, I was thoroughly disappointed. I ordered the Rava Masala Dosa and it wasn't hot nor really warm at all; the Dosa itself was like papadum - paper crisp and thin with no real flavor or texture; the masala-potatoes felt like it was left out in the open, too. When I asked if they could heat it up, they seemed surprised. After they gave me new potatoes which was warmer, I was still very disappointed with their Dosa and literally left it aside. Having shared this with the lady at the front, I asked if I can order something else. I asked when their samosa was made but she said it was made 4 hours ago. 4 hours ago!? Talk about freshness. To my amazement, I asked which other menu options were fresh and hot. After she recommended the Cholé Bature, I decided to order that; however she still made me pay for it (when I left my Rava Masala Dosa). Seeing that she was clearly not interested in accommodating me nor listening to my concerns, I ordered, ate and left. The Cholé Bature was decent by the way. This place seems to mainly cater to those who are loyal customer and not for new customers. If you are debating where to get Dosa, this is not the place - not for the Dosa but mainly for the very poor customer service. This place deserves two stars

I found this place at the base of a mixed use development. It had garage parking nearby. My chickpeas were spicy as ordered, and came with two nicely puffed breads, and an array of pickled onions with a fried chili pepper. It was a proper rendition of the dish. Someone else ordered the same thing and asked for extra salt to dump on the chickpeas, which just baffled me. The flavor was ample. I also ordered a chai, and while they call it a cutting chai (which I understand to mean cut in half in size), it was a decent amount and a nuanced mix of spices. The owner was a little odd and was making calls to various tables and being kind of pushy such that it made one little girl uncomfortable to the point where her party complained about it, which was acknowledged by staff. I would advise them to put the customer's well-being first, but neither I nor the offended parties would seem to have any compunctions about coming back for the food.

The weekday Thali and entree lunch deals and happy hour are well worth it! The Veggie Thali was loaded with 7 little dishes - Paneer Tikka, Saag, Dhal, yogurt, Cauliflower Gobi, Picked Veggie, and Rice Pudding as well as a crispy Paaper and Naan. The red Paneer Tikka as well as the spinach and corn Saag hit the spot! They paired so well with the fluffy and scrumptious Garlic Naan! The fluffy, pillowy-soft Garlic Naan was scrumptious! The Happy Hour (Mon - Fri 2:30 - 6:30pm) is a great deal with $8 apps (entree size!) and $6 cocktails. The Gobi Manchurian has a spicy kick. If you like spicy, go for it! The Karari Palak Chaat has a crunchy base with chickpea batter with crispy palak spinach and topped with sweet and tangy chutneys and yogurt. My daughter enjoyed the Vegetable Momo with a dozen bite-size dumplings. The apps were a generous size and could easily serve as a entree. The Lychee Martini was boozy and packed a punch and glad I got some extra lychee juice to dilute it. The Malai Kofta was creamy and flavorful. The Kofta were a bit stiff. The Palak Paneer was a bit tangy with soft, chunky pieces of paneer. Dhal Paneer Makhani was very tasty. The Mango Lassi was sweet. The food was pretty mild and not spicy. The service is great, shout-out to the waiter Navaan and the owner, Shankar. They are both very nice to my daughter and me. There's another lunch deal $14 with veggie entree, rice, naan, and dessert - will be back for more!

Unfortunately, each dish we tried was worse than the one before. Samosa was ok, although spicier than necessary. The Papdi Chaat was a mushy mess. The Butter Chicken, was ok, although it was missing any distinctive spicy or creamy flavor. It was the only truly edible dish we could both eat without feeling sick after. The basmati Rice was good at least and the Garlic Naan was quite tasty that day although never reheated very well which was disappointing. And the Vegetable Korma, wow, that was by far the worst. It smelled and tasted more like veggie Alfredo than korma, and I don't mean that in a good way. I've had Korma at many Indian restaurants in the past and never, ever, ever had one this bad that caused both my wife and I to refuse to have any more after our first tries. All in all, as bad as the food was, I must say that I am most annoyed and disappointed not with the restaurant l, but rather with all of the positive and glowing reviews that the community previously had given this place. Had anyone who wrote an earlier review tasted Indian food before, or did we somehow figure out some wild algorithm of different dishes that were different than what anyone else had ever ordered from this restaurant??? I just can't figure out the answer to that one...and last piece of advice, do yourself a favor and if you've found a restaurant that you previously have loved and were happy with, don't rock the boat and stupidly try something else, because take it from me in this case, you WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.

The space is beautiful and feels much more upscale than the prices would suggest. I was honestly shocked by how reasonable everything was. The Bollywood music added to the atmosphere and made the whole experience feel even more fun. The restaurant was fairly busy when we visited, so I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the service was. We ordered the chili garlic noodles, ragda pattice (for the full Mumbai street food experience), date naan, and the paneer lababdar that was recommended by the staff. Every single dish was flavorful and delicious. The paneer lababdar was especially good, and the date naan was a pleasant surprise. The bathrooms were clean, parking was easy, and overall the experience was very comfortable. As for the service, the staff were perfectly polite and efficient, though not particularly warm or engaging. Nothing negative at all--just not the type of place where the staff goes out of their way to chat. That said, with food this good and a restaurant this busy, it hardly affected the experience. Overall, the food was absolutely the star of the show. If you're looking for flavorful Indian food in the area, Mumbai Central is definitely worth a visit.

I then asked if I could have it in a cup instead because I wanted to drink it. She brought it out and asked if I wanted her to pour it or if I'd like to do it myself. This question also threw me off a little I assumed that when she went back to get the cup that the drink would be transferred to the cup automatically. I ended up saying I'd do it myself. I kept hearing people talk about this little Indian restaurant inside a gas station, and I finally had to see what all the chatter was about. I'm so glad I did because it definitely lived up to the hype. From the outside, it just looks like an Exxon. The Chit Chat Cafe sign is pretty easy to miss, so if you didn't know it was there, you'd probably drive right by it. Once you walk inside, though, you'll find a really clean convenience store with a full kitchen in the back serving fresh Indian food. There are a lot of little things I wasn't expecting. They have fresh samosas by the register, mango lassis in the cooler, and even a chai machine in the back. There's also a small dining area with a handful of tables if you want to eat there instead of taking your food to go. We ordered the dahi puri, vegetable biryani, chicken tikka masala, butter naan, mango lassi, gulab jamun, samosas, and the samosa chaat burrito, which I'd never seen on a menu before. Everything came out fresh and was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous, the prices were reasonable, and nothing tasted like it had been sitting around. One thing that really stood out was how fresh everything was. While we were waiting, the chef realized she needed one more ingredient and sent her husband to the grocery store to grab it. At first we laughed, but then we realized that's exactly why the food tastes so fresh--they're making everything to order instead of cutting corners. My friend kept talking about how fluffy the rice was, and I have to agree. Everything was well seasoned, and you could tell a lot of care went into each dish. It's funny because people always talk about gas station food, but this is something completely different. You're getting authentic, freshly made Indian food that's hidden inside an Exxon. They also offer takeout, catering, and you can order at the register if you're stopping by on your way somewhere. I'll definitely be back because there were several things on the menu I still want to try.

Delicious Indian restaurant - great happy hour and brunch spot!…read more The happy hour from 4pm-7pm Monday-Fri is an amazing deal. I ordered 2 dishes and a cocktail for under $20! I requested for the Paneer Tikka Flatbread (not on the menu)- vegetarian version of the Chicken Paneer Tikka Flatbread. The naan pizza was delicious, it was stuffed with cubes of paneer with a side of Tikki Masala dipping sauce. Highly recommend it! You can get the Paneer Pizza next door too! The Paneer Tacos were filling and fun to try, but large chunky blocks of paneer. While I enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce, I wish the paneer was cut up into cubes. It just felt a bit heavy with the paneer. The Spinach Artichoke Fritters (4) were tasty. The Mango Mojito and the Mumbai Mule cocktail weren't that good, but it honestly it's hard to complain when it's only $6/drink. The unlimited weekend brunch at $38 is a great deal and well worth it! You can choose from over a dozen Indian fusion dishe - as a bonus mango lassi, chai, and soft drinks are included! You can order 2 dishes/person at a time and the servers hastily swing by to clear your plates and place your next order! Between the 3 of us, we ordered almost conquered the full brunch menu and had a delightful brunch feast! The food had a spicy kick, but not overpowering and wasn't greasy. The portions range from small, bite-size apps to full, large entree size. There's a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu with a few non-veg as well. There's a good balance between traditional Indian dishes and Western fusion with a hint of American flavors/presentation. My favorite stand-outs: - Aam Chat Papri with crispy Papri pita like chips with mango, chick peas, and potatoes smothered in yogurt and chutney, and topped with spicy garam masala mix - Chana Bhatura with chick pea curry and fluffy, bubbly fried bread. Large portion. - Spinach and Artichoke Fritters - Crispy bite-size balls filled with creamy spinach artichoke dip, 4 come in an order and perfect for sharing! - Aloo Bravas - Crispy, diced potatoes very reminiscent of the Spanish Patatas Bravas with aioli sauce and mild masala spicy kick - Butter Chicken - My friend enjoyed it, solid full entree size. I didn't order or try it in, but it looked pretty tasty and could easily why she made a happy empty plate! - Nutella Bread Pakora - Tastes like a bites-size Nutella fried donut! So good we ordered another one! - Helluva Hallawa Trio - I enjoyed sampling the 3 types of Hallawa, ranging in savory (carrot) to more sweet and milky (my favorite). - Mango Lassi - The sweetness of the mango lassi helped to balance out and absorb the spiciness of the food. - Masala Chai - Great ending to a meal, perfectG caffeine pick me up! Paired well with the Nutella bread Pakora. The other dishes on the menu were fun to try, but would probably skip and save room for my faves: - Aloo Sabzi and Katchuri - The dense hollow shell katchuri (similar to a round empanada) made of dhal lentil smothered in Aloo potato curry sabzi was very filling and dense. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. - Egg Burgi and Paratha - The masala spicy scrambled egg on paratha flatbread was kind of bland and a very small portion. - Mango Mimosa - While the mimosas were only $4, it was quite tangy and didn't pair well with the meal. I wish fresh mango juice was used instead of mango flavored juice (tastes like Izzy). The lunch buffet (Mon - Fri 12pm - 2:30pm for $23 wasn't the best experience. Admittedly, I came to the buffet at 1:30pm and the food was tepid and sadly overcooked under the heat lamp. The plates were very small and it was hard to fit a bunch of food. I went to the buffet at least 3 or 4 times to try out the dishes in search of the perfect bite, which I sadly couldn't. There were 5 main standard dishes with 3 vegetarian dishes (Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi, and Mehti Paneer) and 2 non-veg featuring both chicken dishes (Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry) and a galore of fried fritters/pakoras (spinach, onion, potato) with a couple of new rotating stations with Pani Puri (not much going on) and Spinach Tikki and Fish Pakora fried fritters. The Mehti Paneer was quite greasy with a coat of grease at the top and the paneer was pretty stiff. It wasn't tender. The Dal Makhani was bland. The potato aloo potatoes were brittle as they were sitting under the heat lamp too long. The best part about the meal was the fluffy naan, which was made-to-order. I enjoyed 2 rounds! Order the Masala Dosa crispy! When we got it the 1st time on the lunch special, it was a bit rubbery and soggy. After the server asked us a few times whether we liked it, my hubby relented and told him the honest answer. The server got the dosa re-made to go extra crispy, which did the trick! The masala potatoes paired well with the dosa. I wasn't a fan of the Sambar. Based on the glowing brunch and happy hour experience, I would come back to try the lunch buffet with an early start right when it opens!
