We contracted with Ameristar to replace two patio sliders. It was a good experience from start to finish. Larry came out to talk about the product and give us an estimate. Here's a project that has been on the back burner for quite some time. Awarding a reputable window contractor a decent size project consisting of 23 windows and 1 patio door slider. I actually lost track of how many companies did estimates and how many didn't bother to show up nor call to cancel. A few things that I take into consideration would be like length of business years, length of employment for employee's, does the so called window contractor sub out projects to self employed individuals, workers comp and everything else the state of California requires. I don't rely on BBB for complaints. You have to remember, for the duration of project, your home is physically invaded by strangers and that was probably my biggest fear of not knowing who is entering my home and reason why I hesitated to award anyone this project. A key deciding factor was discovering that a Yelp social media friend hired Ameristar Windows to do her home with same needs we needed. Energy efficient windows to help lower utility bills and bring home up to date with technology. The initial phone call was easy and met with a sales rep who took the time to explain our options, features and costs . All windows and glass are manufactured in Riverside, Ca. Your window and glass are made to order and installed by long term employees that have worked in all facets of manufacturing and window installation. You're not getting hired help off the street for that particular day and that was A+. A company that keeps employee's happy and given the opportunity to advance. A few days afterward Mike the owner arrived to measure and discussed further details about lead times and scheduling. He assured me my complete order would arrive in 10 working days. Scheduling department called me one week after to set date and the night before to arriving, confirmed once again. All we did was move back any furniture a few feet and they took care of everything else. I wasn't here when removal began but the 6 mam team "the calvary" immediately went to work upstairs and methodically removed glass and frames without any breakage. They also protected our furniture and protected our finish flooring. Soon enough the entire home had all exposed openings with new product ready to install. I am very satisfied with overall performance Ameristar produced. Employee''s showed superior workmanship, kept voices to a minimum, maintained trash and debris contained, food wrappers and drinks out of sight, safe operation of tools and equipment, they brought various large trashcans, dust pans, shop vscuums, re-attached our window blinds and not one work truck left a puddle of oil. It's past 6PM on a Friday and they are 90% complete with Mike who showed up to help speed up the remainder. Definitely a ten hour project at Casa G for 6 men plus the owner with hands on. Let me start off by saying that I research everything to death. I look for the highest quality products and then look for the lowest price on those products. Before contacting Ameristar Windows I visited 3 Name Brand showrooms and received prices on various quality levels of windows. I was ready to order from another company when Ameristar was recommended to me. Ameristar had the highest quality windows at substantially lower prices than the previous 3 quotes I received. The features of the Ameristar windows were at or above the top level of the Name Brands. I also liked that they are a small business and everything is made in Riverside, California. I probably saved $12,000.00 - $15,000.00 on the entire project. The Installation was seamless. There was only a trace amount of dust from the removal of the existing windows and the installation of the new windows. I have allergies and ran my finger along several surfaces after the installation was complete - almost nothing! Ameristar also installed a 9' long Sliding Glass Door to our patio where a window previously existed. Their finish work is impeccable! The entire installation of 10 Windows and 1 - 9" long Sliding Glass Door took less than 8 hours. Every Window Frame and the Sliding Glass Door was finished to perfection. Every amount of Debris created was removed and deposited in the Trash. The Installation was several months ago and I am still as thrilled with my beautiful new Windows now as the day they were installed. I'm guessing the company might be good at the limited services they offer, but who is to know, given Larry's evasive manner. Finally, after asking him three times, he measured my windows. Not only was Larry professional, he was charming, polite and very knowledgeable about Ameristar's product but in general well informed about the other companies/competitors window products. I wish that I could separate the review into two sections with two ratings. Since I can't, I'll give them 4 stars mainly due to the fact that the windows are MADE IN RIVERSIDE, which I feel is important (and actually deserves 5 stars). They are located right off of Chicago near University. Yay local! For the rest, I have mixed feelings. Their salesperson was a bit unprofessional, swearing and just being slightly obnoxious through the entire pitch. He was able to answer all of the questions, but I prefer to be spoken to like you want my business, not like you're a brother-in-law who automatically gets my business and is just using me to practice his spiel. Because the windows are made in Riverside, it was literally one week from measure to completed manufacture. It took longer to get an installation appointment than to make the windows. I prefer to get through projects quickly, so that was great. The windows are retrofit vinyl, come with a great warranty, and look nice. They also have been effective in keeping the house temperature more consistent without having to run the air or heat as much. However, I experienced a seal failure in the first month on an arch-top north-facing window. While they did take care of it quickly, it didn't look the same after that, but it didn't fail, either. The windows are supposed to have some sort of special magical coating that helps keep them cleaner, blah, blah, blah. I did not notice any difference. Whether rain, sprinklers, or dust, they still looked dirty and needed cleaning as much as my old windows did. Their installers broke a couple of things, including balance clips on my blinds, and did not bother to tell me. They also left little messes here and there. Nothing drastic, but still less than I would expect considering the price wasn't any better than Home Depot. (Again, it's about supporting the local business.) Customer service is difficult to reach. I called many times during normal business hours only to get the machine. Hot tip: I'd leave a message and not get a return call. I've had much better luck by email. When I was able to get them, they did take care of my issues. I had one window get accidentally broken, and the replacement glass was free. (I had to pay for installation labor and the screen.) However, trying to get the replacement glass and screen was incredibly frustrating. They seem very disorganized. First, refer to customer service being hard to reach. When I finally did reach them, they didn't have my order listed in some sort of logical manner, such as by room. As the customer, I'm not going to call and ask for the window by measurement; I'm going to call it the "living room window" (or whatever room it goes in). They don't send anyone out, so if you happen to catch them while you are not at home, you better have measured that window first or you will do rounds in the cycle of hell trying to figure out which window is the right one according to their measurements. If you have several windows of nearly the same dimensions, this will be a nightmare. Overall, the product is good and it supports local business. The turnaround time is fast, and customer service will take care of you when you finally reach them. read more

We finally decided to replace our 25 year old windows and sliders. This was not an easy decision considering we have 33 windows and 3 sliding glass doors. We had 3 different companies come out and give us information and estimates. Although all estimates were comparable in price, Michael Lewis (sales) far surpassed the others with his knowledge and experience. He provided us details and recommendations that suited our needs perfectly. He has a wonderful attitude and made this process go very smoothly. Since Ameristar manufactures their own windows, and their factory is located in Riverside, I was invited to take a tour before deciding. I met with Maribel who gave me a tour. What a treat to see American made products being manifactured right in my own home town. I was sold! My beautiful new windows were completed and installed exactly as proposed.
