This is my experience with Amerigas I've been with company for at least 20 years. The customer service was wonderful. Now you can't get a real person. At this point, we are going to change company's. Oh, they were able to bill me for the tank. I have been trying to get a hold of somebody on the phone to discuss this. Wait time between 75 minutes to over hour in 114 minutes and then you're hung up on, that is completely unacceptable. And this has been going on for over a year. My tank has been scheduled for an inspection for well over a year. I can't schedule a propane delivery until I have a tank inspection. I can't get a tank inspection because nobody will come out here and check my tank. I'm not sure why your company has such a long wait time and then hangs up on you. Also, I don't understand why they can't do their job. I don't know why you outsourced the phone calls. You need to order, hire, and hire more people to answer your phones. This is ridiculous. I'm about ready to come down to the actual office and see what the heck is going on. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a car. Can you please let me know what's going on, why I can't get a tank inspection, and I can't get propane? I'd love to hear back from you. read more

Here's a draft for a bad review: --- **Beware of Outrageous Fees and Price Gouging!** I have never experienced such blatant disregard for customers as I have with Amerigas . Their prices are already through the roof, but what really pushed me over the edge was their outrageous fees. They charge you an exorbitant amount just to turn the service off, and when you question it, they hide behind their "terms and conditions" like it's some kind of shield. This company is the definition of price gouging--charging as much as they can get away with, without any concern for fairness or transparency. They clearly don't care about their customers, only about squeezing every last dollar out of them. I would never recommend Amerigas to anyone. Save yourself the headache and find a company that actually values their customers and doesn't hide behind fine print to justify their greedy practices. read more

We have had them for years and in the last couple of years has become impossible to get a hold of anybody that do speak English, clearly but they must be in India or something and when I wanted to talk to a supervisor, they said just a second, I'll be there with you. I was on the phone for 20 minutes. Nobody even picked up the call I was late on a $60 monthly bill by three weeks and they charged me a $36 late fee. I told him that's 71% interest rate in one month that's usury. I got absolutely no response. If you wanna use them, good luck read more

Their customer service is SO BAD. I got routed around and given another number to call. I used their self service propane machines at 2 Walmart's. I got a defective cylinder. They give me a code to get a replacement out of the machine. I went to 2 Walmart's and none of the machines are working. The code is only good for 7 days. Aren't they generous I get charged for a defective cylinder, have to make 3 trips around town, spend over 45 minutes on the phone with them and got absolutely NO WHERE. read more

Worst customer service ever. They list a local office number but it gets routed to a call center. I manage a property that has very different rates of propane use depending on the time of year and the number of family members on site. Terry in the office and Ted my delivery tech are always so flexible in meeting the property's greatly variable propane gas needs. I highly recommend this Amerigas office, San Marcos, and especially Terry and Ted to anyone looking for excellent propane delivery service. read more

If I could give zero stars I would!!! ABSOLUTELY WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE we have ever experienced! We were loyal customers for 20 YEARS and they GHOSTED and would not fill up our propane tank for 3 weeks over Christmas while we had full house of family visiting. We had a completely empty tank, NO HOT WATER, NO HEAT.. we had to pay someone to bring and fill up a small tank every two days so we could all at least shower. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!! Of course after that we canceled our service with them! Now the propane tank that they were suppose to pick up when we canceled service has been sitting in our driveway where our kids play, blocking part of our court yard for 4 MONTHS!!! We have called every week and they even gave us two dates for a pick and never showed.. GHOSTED US AGAIN!!! DO NOT USE AMERIGAS!!!!!!!! I am disgusted at how they are treating us after all these years!! read more

Amerigas - Propane Near Me - San Marcos, California

Amerigas took over for G&K Propane and has been the most unprofessional, unethical business to deal with. They tell you what the charge is, you pay, then they send additional invoices for additional charges. The invoice for tank rental is tacked on surreptitiously then they begin to assess usurious rates of late fees. The only way I was able to contact anyone there was by chat. Their 800 number is all recordings. Leaving a message does nothing. This is just billing issues. Trying to deal with them on fuel orders is just as terrible, as you can't talk to an actual person when you need to. I'd steer clear away from this company. There are others like Hi Desert Propane that are more transparent and straight forward in how they deal with their customers. read more

I'm on hold as we speak 22 mins trying to cancel Amerilock enrollment fee. 128 bucks to get price locked in at a certain price. I had it 3 years ago and canceled it 2 years ago. They keep sending me bills even tho I canceled 2 times before. This guy Ryan has had me waiting now 25 mins. I'm asking for confirmation email, and they delaying and messing with me, cuz I asked before for one and never got it. I hope there's a class action law suit with this company. They're drivers are nice, but since they left San Marcos, your dealing with someone in india now. Such a bad service. I wish I had gas and not propane. 27 mins waiting, he's never coming back..geez 30 mins..i'm done! Never got a confirmation email. Such a terrible Company. read more

The worst customer service I have ever encountered. Called them for initial delivery/service March 2023. It could not happen because tank needed to be painted. They sent me a text saying they would contact me in 3 days for another scheduled time for inspection of tank to make sure we painted it, which we did. Never heard back from them. So I called again. They said once again a text would be set to confirm service/inspection in 3 days. The texted never happened. I called back one more time. Now they told me they would come out and paint my tank. No, my tank is already painted, I just need to have it inspected. Once again, no confirmation of inspection date sent. Called one more time. Now the person is telling me they have NO RECORD of my calls or expected texts from them confirming service. At this point I just told them to forget it. I'm calling another company. Here's the kicker of why I'm leaving this review. Just now today 3 months later I have 2 guys come to the property to make the service inspection of the tank!!! DO NOT USE THIS PROPANE COMPANY. read more

We are corporate customer with 22 tanks at same address. We regularly run out of gas and it takes them weeks to call us back. Currently I have called 7 times this week to get a tank back in service. I've had them for 2 years now and done with them. Worst costumer service, won't show up to service appointments, just very frustrating. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. 11/1/22 I'm moving and today called to schedule turning off service. I was told it would take 3-4 weeks to do this?!?! I asked why since every other utility company I've used just has you fill out an online form saying when you're moving and that's it. The employee couldn't explain why. He said he submitted the request and that's all he can do. This was the fourth person I talked to because the first three didn't know what to do. Classic Amerigas! Every person told me something different, one said I needed to wait for a call back from another department because her department doesn't handle this, another said I have to be here for the shut off, even though I will have moved, another said I had to give my new address to them but wouldn't say why, and then the last person said it would take 3-4 weeks! The absolutely most horrendous "company" I've ever dealt with. I'm convinced this is some kind of front for a criminal enterprise because it doesn't function like a normal utility company and is unresponsive and apathetic toward customers' needs or even basic supply and demand. Look at all the reviews for all the locations and you'll see this. Ever since I submitted complaints to the FTC and CFPB government agencies they haven't sent me late fee notices or any more fake collections letters. The bills have not been quite as high as before, but they still haven't removed the late fees or the bills they said themselves were incorrect from my account. And the bills still arrive at random times during the month something after they are "due." Also the online account history makes no sense. They delete things and then move them around to other dates. It's impossible to tell when things actually happened. Nothing even shows up on my account history from the first six months I lived here! The good thing is that I don't think they actually send these accounts to real collections agencies because we've never heard from one. Plus, with so many problematic and disputed billing accounts, I'm not sure it would be in any collection agency's interest to buy their debt. There are too many obvious mistakes by Amerigas and math that doesn't even add up that most people whose reviews I've seen would probably win against any collection agency. Seriously, take my advice, save yourself a huge headache and an unnecessary astronomical increase in stress levels and NEVER sign up for Amerigas! read more

I would give them zero stars if I could. Worst customer service ever, they promise things all day and do not deliver and then charge you a fee. Run away if you are not committed already. read more

Please, please, please save yourself the stress and hassle of dealing with this nightmare of a company and read all the reviews! For years we have dealt with billing problems and terrible customer service and delivery issues. The last time they came out, after waiting for over 10 days for propane, they refilled our tank and then placed a lock on it with a note to call and have someone come back out to take the lock off and light our pilot. We were home the entire time they came- they never once rang the door to let us know they were there. Then they charged me $75 to have someone come back out to remove the lock and light it. Fast forward to now: we have been without hot water and heat for almost a week now, even though I've paid the emergency fee to have them come out- they still have not come. Now, I cannot get ahold of anyone to find out the status of my order. See the attached pictures that show how long I've waited on hold to speak to someone with no luck. I am now sending certified letters to have them remove their tank from my property and cancel their service. After research, I have found companies that charge $2/ less a gallon. Avoid this scam company! read more

I recently purchased a new home on Jan 13th 2020 in valley center CA. The prior owners had AMERIGAS as the Propane supplier and service company. On Jan 30th an AmeriGas driver shows up at my property unannounced and tells me he needs to conduit a standard tank inspection and it would only be a few minutes. About 10 minutes later he knocks on my door and hands me a bill for $575.00. As we are disputing about the bill in my kitchen another Amerigas driver pops his head in the door and says "I just topped you off" and hands me another bill now totaling $600.75. To this day I have never filled out or signed the online documents to even become a new customer. I've never called them or authorized them to fill the tank and I've never to this day even became a registered customer with Amerigas. I called multiple times and spoke to their rude and arrogant customer service reps as I tried to explain the situation. I did speak to a manager a few days later and told them to come pick up the tank and get it off my property. She advised me I would be credited back and a few days later I received a bill totaling $600.75. I recently just called back today and the rep was rude and told me to "get ready for calls from our collection department" I asked her "how can you send me a bill if Im not a customer" her response was the old property owners called in on the 29th and requested a credit for the gas they has already paid for months prior. By law after Jan 13th and the close of escrow they have zero rights to anything left behind on the property. Amerigas wrongfully credited them back and put me on the hook for the bill as well as fraudulently created an account in my name without me signing the new account documentation. This company is the absolute worst and I will be filing additional complaints with the BBB. They falsified information to create an account and refuse to waive the charges. They are bullies and make threats to ruin your credit if you do not pay. If Amerigas was the last propane provider on earth I would never use them or recommend them. Please save yourself the trouble and don't give them one more ounce of business. I am now speaking to an attorney to hold them accountable for falsifying info on the bill as well as creating an account in my name without having my signature completing the online application to become a new customer. LADY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE It is Christmas day (but lady, it's cold outside) We're outta pro-pane (but lady, it's cold outside) This evening has been (been hoping that you'd drop by) So cold as ice (you should see our hands, they are blue and white!) My mother will start to worry (said you'd be here, so hurry) And father will be pacing the floor (listen to the fireplace roar) So really you'd better scurry (you don't wanna see my fury) I'll maybe just call you once more (are ya coming-- we feel ignored) The neighbors might think (lady, it's bad out there) Our patience starts to shrink (no trucks to be had out there) You brought us to the brink (no heat to be had in here) And drove us to drink (close the account, we'll find a new vendor...) I wanna say no, no show (and we were on auto-fill!) At least I'm gonna say that we tried (what's the sense in hurtin' your pride?) We really can't stay (lady, don't make us ill...) 'Cause lady, it's cold out-side We simply must go (but lady, it's cold outside) The answer is no (but lady, it's cold outside) This hotel has been (how lucky that we checked in) So nice and warm (look out the window at that sun) We really couldn't stay (get over that we've gone away) Lady, it was cold, out-side Pro tip: automatic refill means they monitor and supply as needed, but we ran out on Christmas. Always a super high per gallon charge. An easy check of the cost of propane via Google allows you to see how they consistently raise the price on you, regardless of actual wholesale costs. I don't think I have ever known a company to be more deserving of zero stars. This was probably one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. It took us a month after the first promised installation date to get our propane tank installed. Then, they weren't prepared to actually fill the tank with gas. After that, it's been over two months and they still haven't filled our propane tank with gas. We have called countless times and been given countless delivery dates. Their call centers are not in the county, probably not in the state and likely out of the country. They refuse to escalate issues to their supervisors and or someone local. I even tried to go to the location in San Marcos to get someone to help me but the door was locked and no one is there. So frustrating. Definitely choose any other propane company. read more

Worst customer service imaginable. On top of all the other issues we've had getting deliveries, we finally added ourselves to an automated delivery option and things were going OK. Then today I just happened to call in the check our account balance and find out that our account was closed, even though we have a credit balance where they owe US money. As mentioned in the previous review, these guys show up at my home and want to do a survey for installing propane. Later, they send me a bill for some imaginary services(probably because they know I am not buying. So just bill and see if we can grub a few hundred dollars) I made calls trying to resolve it. Their policy is to just repeat the same thing, we came now pay us. Ignored the fact that I never set it up, they just arrived based on a tip from a contractor. Despite my best effort, these guys would not resolve the issue despite multiple contacts. I explained that A) they sent me bills prior to me having setup an account, B) they knew my address but do not even know my full name and didnt have my phone number until I called to inquire about bill, C) I dont agree with any charges since I never agreed to any services. A guy just shows up at my door selling propane and then sends me a bill? Come on loosers! Now they sent collections after me, which is a joke since they do not have any info one me besides my firdt name and address. I'm sure they could get my last name from public records, but apparently they havent bothered to do that. This place is too unethical and incompetent to trust with my business, particularly since they sell a highly flammable material that goes into your home. I would avoid at all costs. If one of these guys shows up, give a fake name and tell them you already have propane. read more

I have been renting a house for almost two years now which is serviced by Amerigas. There is a 500 gallon tank on the property. We have attempted to get the account in our name since we moved in. We have been able to pay the account for the first year, but recently, the company won't let us pay it, and I'm fairly certain they came to the house and turned off the line since the account is so far past due. When I call to try and rectify the situation, they just tell me the owner has to put our names on the account, so I can't even pay it. And the property manager isn't on the account either, so they can't help. Now I'm out of town for work and my wife is stuck with no propane for laundry, cooking, hot water, etc... Amerigas is hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with. I'm literally trying to pay them money and they won't take it because my name isn't on the account. And their market rate is 20-50 cents above everyone else. DO NOT USE AMERIGAS. Find someone else. read more

0 star ratings should be a thing. Amerigas has been a nightmare to work with. From scheduling our initial account setup and tank safety check, which took multiple calls to complete - to attempting to get the tank refilled - we have never experienced the inability to provide service seen from this company. My husband and I called (literally) 14 times trying to get the tank refilled. Initially, they identified the problem as the intial account setup never moved the tank into our names. But over the course of these calls, we both had our calls dropped on transfer, or after being put on hold. We spoke with kind people who were not able to affect any change in our case, and our request for refill sat unserviced call after call after call. After such miserable customer service, and such time spent trying to purchase a product from them - we switched companies to Ferrelgas, and were set up (and just had our first refill) with no issue. Guess what - I'd like to say I was done with Amergas, but I am on my 4th call to Amerigas over the past 2 months, to have their tank picked up. Today, on my 3rd call to get the tank picked up - I asked to speak with a manager. I waited on hold and was told I would be 'transferred' to a supervisor only to have the call dropped on transfer. When I called back (4th call), the new customer service 'advocate' told me she couldn't escalate my call to any manager or supervisor, but that she could create an action item that would be responded to within 3 days. I am ready to have a scrapper come pick up this tank - it has to be worth money to someone, if not Amerigas. Really frustrated with this company, has been the worst experience I've ever had with a large or small company. How are you guys even in business? read more

I received multiple mailers to give this company a try. They advertised up to a $250 rebate for which I qualified. My purchase was in October 2022. I still haven't received my $250 credit card in spite of multiple calls. The latest excuse is they are having an "IT" problem. Like several I see here on their reviews, this is not misleading. Lots of promises but no activity. I had a propane leak which I had to hire a plumber ($200) to locate. It turns out to be the valve on the belly of the Tank that I rent. I contacted the only number they provide (out of the Country) so that they don't have to address the local customers directly. They did come out and seem to have fixed the leak and offered a 10% credit 32 gals which is far less than what had leaked. But at least it was a consideration and attempt at customer service. I paid all but the so-called credited amount after I refilled the tank within a month from the previous fill because of the leak. I've called three times with the promise they will credit it. Today I was on hold (for the 3rd call) for 25 minutes, after being asked to hold while they do the credit. Then was hung up on. Because there is no local number to address issues, the Amerigas business plan seems to be ignore the customer until they pay. Please just do what you say you will do and get a local number to be able to communicate. Even though the people on the 800 try to help it's hard to understand them and there is no credibility of doing what they say they will do. It's easier to take care of the customers you have than bringing on new ones. But this is why good customers leave. read more
