After watching too many episodes of Hoarders, I used this company (as seen on Hoarders) to haul away some old flooded carpet, rotten lumber and junk on the side of the house that has been there for 20 years. Sorry, I don't have everyone's name, (I am in SJC) but they were all positive, quick, cleaned up after themselves and threw in the old pallet by my house for free. I'm not a person who actively gives poor reviews. I usually keep bad experiences to myself and I hate complaining. This was the worst junk pick up experience of my life. I requested the service online and scheduled the time, 9-11 am. They arrived at 12:40 pm. Okay, fine. I had the whole load set up for easy transfer into the truck. They showed up and got right into their pricing technique, which was very "diamond discount" style. "The normal price is $537 but for you we'll do this, this, and this to make it $437." I still thought the price was too high so wasn't willing to accept without another attempt to lower it to what other companies would charge (realistically about $200 for this size load). Plus, by volume, the items wouldn't fill the amount of the truck they quoted (love seat, work out bike, other small items) and I gladly would have left a bulky item out of it meant I could get a fair price on the rest. The guys came back with a reduced price of $337, approved by their supervisor. Admittedly, I was already irritated with the style and the games, so my message to the supervisor (relayed by the guys on the truck) was, "I'll pay it, but know that I will not be a repeat customer because the price is crazy to me." I wanted that to be clear. The guys (who were nice and professional) called their boss. Their supervisor then told the guys to leave without the service (they were done with me). I asked if I can talk to the supervisor. They called him back. Supervisor was willing to talk. We were on speaker phone. I explained that the price was roughly double what it was the last time I used their service. He explained the higher cost is value of premium service and impact of inflation. Okay, sure. I explained that in addition to the sharp price increase I gathered all the items to the driveway in a tidy way and also that they were almost two hours late. For that, I asked specifically for $50 off of $337, so $287. The supervisor said, "okay, thanks for the new information. I need to call my boss." (Paraphrased). The guys came back to tell me, per their supervisor, "they have to leave because it's taking too long. Other jobs to get to." I reminded them that I'll pay the high price if they finish the job. Nope. They left. Refused the business at that point. ... The one star reviews comes from the facts that most of the extra time was caused by their conversations with supervisors & two the price was well above market. Ironically, the length of my last conversation with the supervisor was longer because of the inflation/ premium service spiel, not from side. That supervisor then spent more time talking to his boss, only to relay back to guys on the truck that they are now late for other jobs. After all that I reminded them I'd pay the full price quoted because I really needed to get rid of this stuff (guests and new couch coming). Nope! They left. Again, I wasn't the easiest going person because I was irritated they were late and for the pricing technique. But I also wasn't unreasonable and not out of line or rude. I was being honest and made valid points. Of course they reserve the right to refuse my business, which is the first time that's ever happened to me. I pride myself on not being a jerk, having empathy, and recognizing how hard it is to serve the general public, especially while trying to turn a profit to keep the business alive. read more

I recently used 1-800-GOT-JUNK to remove "junk" and excess materials, etc. from my property. I booked an appointment online. There is absolutely no cost or obligation, so I was more comfortable going with this company as opposed to others I contacted. I received a phone call about two hours prior to the scheduled arrival window. The two man crew arrived on time. The two employees and I walked the property. I showed them the 8 items I wanted removed/hauled away. They gave me an estimate and I agreed to proceed with the removal of the "junk." The estimate did increase as the job ended up requiring more labor/time than anticipated, but it's probably not uncommon that this happens. Regardless, I feel the price was fair, considering. There's really not much of a savings hiring someone or taking your own precious time to haul the "junk" away and pay for landfill fees, etc. This company takes everything; absolutely everything that is non-hazardous. The two quickly disassembled several metal structures. The job required the use of a metal cutting saw. The two were very careful and with my suggestion cut the materials in the driveway and not in the yard. It was a hot day, nearly 90 degrees and a tiny spark from the metal cutting saw could quickly turn into a fire. The two even dampened the area and had the hose right next to them. Fortunately the two were very cautious and the job was completed without issue. My one and only complaint, the little truck did not have enough room for 1 of the items I wanted hauled away. As a result, it sat in the front yard until the following morning when an empty/larger truck was able to haul it away. So, this is not what I consider "same-day service." For those that will ask, yes, they recycle or donate items whenever it is possible to do so. read more

After booking a time for estimate and providing picture I got contacted with text saying that it would be between 1/3-1/4 of truck, 457-517$. I have used them in past and the charge was reasonable. However, told the person via text that college hunks prices seemed slot cheaper. Quoted 400$ for 1/2 truck and I had a lot less than that. College hunks came and charged 200$. Would not recommend 1-800-got-junk. No one bothered to respond to my email. Use another company. read more

I had a great experience with this company. I was able to make a next day appointment online. They were immediately in communication with me and sent me their price list. They checked in the next morning and arrived on time. Two employees arrived and were courteous and got right to work. They filled up a whole truck and had to call in another truck, which luckily they did as we needed additional help to get a heavy old tube tv down 2 flights of stairs! I was moving out of my place and wanted a new bed so I didn't want to take my old bed with me. I called Got Junk twice and was able to make an appointment for them to pickup. Making the appointment was easy and they gave me an estimate which was the price I was thinking. So the day comes and they call about 30 minutes before they showed up. It was two guys who were very friendly and helpful. I had already broke the bed down so it would be easy for them. They took the bed and left in about 10 minutes. I had a large wooden cabinet with shelves, a mirror and current rod. I was told on the phone $177 min. Gave the stuff a look over and believed it would likely be around $200-$250. I'm moving and have no truck, no friends with a truck and no time (I work 2 jobs and am packing in between shifts). My local waste management could not do a bulk item pick until 2 weeks after my move out date. I was charged $387! What a ripoff! I will not recommend to anyone! read more

Had a great experience with Devar, Tony and Kevin from 800 got junk of Oceanside today in south OC. They took 3 trucks full of bulky furniture and household stuff that we needed help getting rid of, and they did it all with a great attitude and a smile - on a Sunday when they were short handed due to year end holidays and with only a day's scheduling no less. They were there for about 4-5 hours moving and loading, which also involved walking 30 yards or so to the truck in the parking area which I know sucks. Total professionals, that unlike donation pickups these guys took everything and asked if there's anything more. They even unscrewed stuff from the walls and swept and cleaned up afterwards! This was our first time using such a cleanup service, and granted it's not free, it was well worth the cost and ended up cheaper than originally estimated. I'd use them again for sure. Also worth mentioning is they pack the trucks high and tight, with no fluffing the load and accurate load billing. This was all at a deceased relative's home 60 miles from my house, and my family and I had already spent several weekends and got rid of 20+ dumpsters full plus 2 trucks of salvation army pickup, but finally had enough and called in the pros to finish the job. I got the very best customer service from Michael on 9/1/20. They were running a little late due to the amount of Junk they have been tasked to haul during this pandemic. My appointment was scheduled for mid-morning and he called me to let me know what his schedule was like, to assure me he would be here a little later than my scheduled time. He kept me posted as to his ETA and when he arrived he was properly masked and practicing social distancing (which is something other service providers sometimes lack). Terrible. Workers were rude, not trained to carry furniture, damaged my stairs and stepped on plants. Also had an attitude and were dirty. They did not come prepared as requested and came with a full truck. They did not have enough room to take the items so had to wait for their boss to approve another truck. They wanted to leave junk in my driveway until the next day so they would not have to send a new truck. read more

After calling a dozen other places and having them either flake out or not answer/return my call, I decided to give these guys a call. Although I called later in the afternoon, the woman with a pleasent voice answered the phone and arranged for the haulers to come by my home to provide me with an estimate that same day. The haulers came on time and were very sweet and personable. It started to rain and they still did a great job and cleaned up all of the junk in my garage. I called Got Junk for a quote yesterday on taking a 30" tv. I was just curious about this company as they have a lot of tv exposure. Also, I recently purchased a junk house and I've been working with a local independent junk company. So I just wanted to get a gauge for how expensive they are. First off, my phone operater was not nice and super unprofessional. I'm a stand up gal and I know what I want. I also used to work in sales so I know when to shut it down. I'd rather not waste either of our time. The quote I was given was really high for me; $107 to take a single 30" tv. The other company I work with in another county does 4,000 lbs for $300. Got Junk's number was way out of the ballpark. I told the guy on the phone thanks for his time but I want to end the conversation and look at other options. He wouldn't take no for an answer, which is typical. He offered to take down the price since that was my issue. I said his quote was way too high and I doubt he'd meet my price. He asked again and I said $20. It's a working tv and I'd rather take it to someplace to donate myself than spend more then $20. He said back, "$20? Did you really expect to have something taken away for $20?" I hated the tone he had with me and this conversation could've been over with when I called it. I told him we were seriously done with this conversation and hung up. Like I said to begin with, I was curious about this company and was only calling for a quote and to get a gauge of their prices. They showed me they're expensive and have poor customer service and sales tactics. I will not be working with this company and I suggest you don't either.
