The owner of this business is a greedy, lazy rude and psychotic! I have never been treated so shabbily in my 73 years of living. I was never told about a package pickup charge oy$1 for each item and then the charge went up to $3!! There it is, for 3 months I paid in excess of $140 for what was quoted to be $37 a month! The actual mail boxes appear to be from the Pony Express time period! My final encounter with this coward was when I protested he picked up my $42 worth of delivered packages and literally threw them out of the front door while my two (2) friends watched in horror, during this terrifying experience he deliberately hit me on my arm with a U.S. mail container! I am definitely going to sue this slob, before the statue date runs out. Please be advised that his business is in complete disarray and I have watched him search for items in several mountains of debris and coming up empty handed (very frightening), to say the least! I am in the process of working with the U.S. Postal Inspectors in re: this incident! Please save yourself and probably your life and sanity and take your mail services to a more reputable business that displays the professional attitude of a proud business owner! read more

I usually treat a trip to FedEx or the UPS store with a bit of dread, because you know it's going to be a trifle annoying and you're going to end up paying like $20 more than you expected to pay to ship something the weight of a pencil like 50 miles. And then there's American Mail & Package. After Comic-Con this year, I was left with an abundance of swag and nowhere in my travel bag to carry it. I went here to ship everything from San Diego to DC, and it couldn't have better a nicer or more pleasant experience. The woman running this place is one of the most genuinely nice people I've ever met in my life. From the moment we came in she was friendly, helpful and courteous. She let me and my girlfriend try out several different boxes to see how small we could contain everything, and when there were no prices on the boxes she just charged us $1 for each, when anywhere else they would have been $3-5 minimum. She even took $5 off the shipping price, since our package wouldn't qualify as USPS media mail and had to be shipped for a slightly higher rate. In the end, we shipped home a full box and a poster tube for $30, packaging included. At FedEx or UPS that would've easily topped $50. I don't live in San Diego, so I don't know if I'll ever be back at this location, but I can only hope locals in the area realize what a gem they have here. read more

I called the different mail and packaging places in the area, and this one had the best prices. Their hours are reasonable, mailbox access after hours is simple enough, and the owner is accommodating and friendly. Other mailbox places wanted to charge a $9 fee to file a change of address (whichis free at USPS offices), they didn't charge anything. I have always received my mail, and have quickly received email responses to any random questions I might have (forgotten lock combo, etc.). I was wary because of the low ratings, but this is a great business. read more

I was on vacation in San Diego and left some items at my hotel (luckily, the hotel saved them for me). The American Mail people were my heroes as they picked up the things I forgot at the hotel and shipped them to my home! They charged my credit card over the phone. DO NOT SEND YOUR ITEMS THROUGH THIS COMPANY! This past January, I paid this mailing company over $250 to send 3 large boxes, around 30-50 lbs, from San Diego to Ohio. 3 months later I visited Ohio to find out my boxes were never delivered. I called the owner of the company, Ron on the phone to discuss this matter and he claims NO responsibility and for me to call Fed-Ex. I did this and Fed-Ex explained someone from this mailing place called in during the course of the delivery and changed the delivery address to Atlanta, GA! The name that was responsible was a previous employee of American Mail and Package. I called Ron back up and spoke with him, he told me he NEVER heard of this person! He has NO insurance to cover my packages me "lost". I put lost in quotes because I don't know if they were lost of stolen! To this day, I have none of my items and still he refuses to take responsibility for the losses! I'm going to go further with this and take this to small claims court and do my best to let everyone possible know this business shouldn't be in business! This is a great local business. I just recently opened up a small box here and it has worked out great! It's all I need, the staff is friendly, available, and accommodating. Centrally located within the San Diego city area. It's perfect for me! They send e-mail notifications when you receive packages from UPS, FedEx, etc. They have a system that they scan everything, put a ticket in your box, automated e-mail, and then you just grab your ticket from your box and hand it to who's working and done! It's great! I will be using this service for a while, why I'm here in San Diego. I usually go to the post office to mail my boxes, but I chose American Mail because of the location convenience. Big mistake on my part!! Their prices are shockingly high! I had two USPS priority mail pieces that the post office charges $23.10 for both. American Mail charged $50.00 for both. The person working there originally said $56.00 and then gave me a discount of $6.00 when I expressed my shock! At that point I should have took my packages back and continued to the post office, but he had already labeled them. When I walked into the store it was a complete mess! Open boxes, empty boxes. A retail and service business should be attractive or at least presentable. I will never take my business there again. read more

This place is so bad I suspect nefarious activity. I receive a Fed Ex notice that a package has been delivered, yet they say there IS no package. A lot of arguing and running around and finally they produce the package from a back room (?!) Today, January 23, 2013, they handed me a package that had been delivered on DECEMBER 18, 2012!! Only 6 weeks late!! It was a Christmas present! Great to receive that at the end of January. Unfortunately, our accounts are all paid up a year in advance, but this place is so bad we are thinking of closing our mail box anyway. I am an incomplete Parapalgia. I have had a mail box here for nearly 5 years. I went in today and had a Tv to pick up I had ordered from Amazon. Christian did load it in my truck for me. I asked him to grab the mail out of my box because I didn't have my key with me. He told me he could charge me for another key but could not grab my mail for me. It took him 40 seconds to tell me this. He could have grabbed my mail for me in less than 30 seconds. Unbelievable !! How rude to do to a disabled person . This business came up on the UPS website as being an "access point," so I figured I'd just walk over on my 15 minute break. Checked the hours online beforehand, but when I went over on a Monday morning at 10am and they were closed.
